  • Ondo APC hails Akeredolu over workers’ welfare

The Ondo State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded  Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for his unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare.

The party also hailed the  efforts of the governor at ensuring that kidnappings and other crimes are nipped in the bud.

A statement yesterday in Akure, the state capital, by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, reads: “It is ordinarily an unthinkable thing for a government with a lean purse to adhere to prompt payment of salaries, and strive to offset all the backlog of salaries and pensions.

“It is equally unfathomable to the opposition, which plunged the state into huge debts before this administration, that Governor Akeredolu could also effect promotion of civil servants, besides regular payment of salaries and wages.

This, in no small measure, gladdens the heart of the work force that is currently in love with and prays for the administration consistently.

“Contrary to the position of the opposition, the administration seeks better and secured living situations for the good and peace-loving people of Ondo State.

“While it is unethical to discuss security measures in the open, suffice it to say that the recent comprehensive meetings with the major stakeholders are geared towards a kidnapping-free state.

“The leader of the party in the state, and governor, would not be distracted by idle and arm-chair publicity pretenders and critics from his mission and commitment to a safe and prosperous Ondo State.

“We urge all those playing politics with the security and peace of the state to desist forthwith and join hands with the governor to implement to the fullest his laudable plans for the state.”

  • You may be sanctioned, Ondo APC elders tell Olanusi, others

The Chairman of the Elders Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Senator Nimbe Farukanmi, has warned that former Deputy Governor Alli Olanusi and his group could be sanctioned if they do not desist from seeming anti-party activities.

He wondered why an elder like Olanusi assembled aggrieved party members to propagate falsehood because he could not have his way with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

Farukanmi said the recent call by the Olanusi-led group was a wicked device to further cause disaffection and damage to the party.

He said: “It is unfortunate that Alhaji Olanusi and his group decided to revert to fanning the embers of disunity with outright lies and a wicked call for the dissolution of the state executive of the party at a time APC is talking about reconciliation.

“You will recall that most of the people in that group did not work for the APC during the last governorship election, yet the party won. It is, therefore, funny to hear them say that they control over 80 per cent of the party’s strength in Ondo State.”

He advised members of the estranged group to retrace their steps and work with the reconciliation committee set up by APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) to air whatever grievances they have against the party.

He affirmed the confidence and belief of the Ondo State APC in the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Executive Committee (NEC), led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the state by Governor Akeredolu.

  • Ondo APC to sanction erring elders

The Chairman of the Elders Caucus of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Senator Olorunnimbe Farukanmi, has warned that Alhaji Alli Olanusi and his group could be santioned, if they do not desist from alleged anti party activities.

He lamented that an elder like Olanusi could assemble aggrieved members to propagate falsehood because he could not have his way with the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

Farukanmi said the recent call by the Olanusi-led group was a  device to further cause disaffection and damage to the party.

He said: “It is unfortunate that Alhaji Olanusi and his group decided to revert to fanning the embers of disunity with outright lies and a wicked  call the dissolution of state executive of the State chapter at a time the party is talking about reconciliation.

“You will recall that most of the people in that group did not work for the APC during the last governorship election, yet the party won. It is therefore funny to hear the say that they control over 80 percent of the party strength in Ondo State.”

He advised the estranged group to retrace their steps and make good use of the opportunity avail by the reconciliation committee set up by the National Working Committee of the party to air what ever grievances they night have against the party.

He affirmed the confidence and belief of the chapter in the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Executive Committee, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Akeredolu.

Farukanmi said the elders  strongly have an unwavering confidence in the State Executive Committee, led by Ade Adetimehin, which a recent court judgement also attested to, to pilot the affairs of the party in the next four years.

  • How to avert defeat of Ondo APC in 2019, by chieftains

Aggrieved chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State yesterday highlighted conditions that will guarantee victory for the party in next year’s parliamentary elections.

They urged the party leadership to resolve the post-primary crisis, reconcile those who lost out at the shadow poll with the flag bearers to present and redress alleged injustice arising from the primaries.

Ondo South APC chieftains Adekunle Atimishe and Shem Ayejuni told reporters in Lagos that many members were not happy with the nomination of Senator Yele Omogunwa for a second term.

The party chiefs insisted that his nomination violated existing rotational arrangement understood by the three federal constituencies in Ondo South Senatorial District.

They said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was studying the post-primary crisis and strategising ahead of the poll to profit from the logjam.

According to them, it is the turn of Ile-Oluji/Odigbo Constituency to produce the APC senatorial candidate.

The APC chieftains said an aspirant, Odunayo Akinrinsola, who hails from the constituency, is more popular and acceptable to most of the constituents in Ondo South.

But Omogunwa objected to the assertion, saying the three constituencies – Ilaje/Ese-Odo, Okitipupa/Irele and Ile-Oluji/Odigbo – are behind him.

The outcome of the senatorial primary has pitched Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) against the APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC), which rejected his preferred candidate, Lucky Adedatiwa, from Irele, in favour of Pastor Omogunwa.

Other Ondo South aspirants include Morayo Lebi (Irele), Janet Adeyemi (Ile-Oluji) and Timithy Felder (Oke-Igbo).

The PDP candidate is a former Transport Commissioner Nicholas Tofowomo, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) is fielding former Works Commissioner Gboye Adegbenro.

In Ondo Central, Senator Tayo Alasoadura is the APC candidate, while the PDP is fielding Senator Patrick Akinyelure.

In Ondo North, the primary also generated ripples.

Human rights lawyer, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, who enjoyed the governor’s support, was rejected by the national leadership in favour of Senator Ajayi Boroffice.

Ayejuni said the imposition of Omogunwa on the district may be counter-productive on poll day.

The party stalwart urged the party to retrace its steps.

He said: “A credible and acceptable candidate is required. We must follow the rotational principle. Senator Ehinlanwo from Ilaje was in the Senate for eight years. Ese-Odo produced the current deputy governor. Senator Kunlere from Okitipupa was in the Senate for four years. Omogunwa from Irele has spent four years too. Senator Meroyi from Odigbo has served in the Senate for four years. It is the turn of Ile-Oluji to produce a senator. That is why people are rooting for Akinrinsola.”

Atimishe said: “It is not too late for the APC to be sensitive to the popular yearning of the constituents and the electorate. The rejection of the rotational arrangement may produce a negative effect. People are calling for equity, fairness and justice. It will be easy for our party to win, if the right steps are taken by the party leadership.”

  • We hold Oke in high esteem, says Ondo APC

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday faulted the report credited to a frontline chieftain of the party in the state, Chief Olusola Oke (SAN), and his followers that they had suffered humiliation and rejection in the party.

The party said it was surprised by the claim.

It added: “Chief Oke, a notable personality with vast political experience, is well respected by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the APC executives in the state.”

APC noted that as a colleague in the legal profession, Akeredolu regards Oke as a worthy partner in the quest for the political and economic emancipation of Ondo State.

A statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye said: “It is expedient to state in a crystal clear language that the two leaders are both eager to see the development of the Sunshine State and are mostly in touch, particularly on matters that border on the wellbeing of the party and the state.

“At the level of the party, the State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, has always displayed profound respect and appreciation for the political exploits and professional attainment of Chief Oke.

“Adetimehin believes very strongly that the fortune of APC in Ondo State would be greatly enhanced with the political experience of Oke as well as his followers at the party’s disposal.

“This is readily explained by the quick response and visit to Chief Oke’s country home in Okitipupa by the State Working Committee (SWC), led by Adetimehin, to encourage him over the recent loss of his elder brother.

“We want to appeal that Oke and his followers exercise some patience while the leader of the party in the state, Governor Akeredolu, looks into some of the issues raised with a view to addressing them.”

The statement said it needed all leaders to work together in order to strengthen the party and ensure a resounding victory for President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC candidates in next year’s general elections.

  • Rumpus in Ondo APC over Assembly candidates

There is tension in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on the likely tampering with the list of the party’s House of Assembly candidates.

The camp of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is especially worried because of the likelihood of sharing the seats among four groups in the party, contrary to the plan of the camp to dominate the list with its men, sources said at the weekend.

The four groups are those of Akeredolu, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Mr. Segun Abraham and Mr. Olusola Oke.

The fear in the governor’s camp is that this arrangement will keep their camp in the minority in the scheme of things in the next House of Assembly.

Party officials also said the candidature of Senator Yele Omogunwa for Ondo South continues to create ripples to the extent that the three APC House of Representatives candidates in the area are believed to have decided to distance themselves from him.

They are said to be planning to campaign independently of him.

The candidates are: Donald Ojogo (Ilaje/Ese Odo), Mayowa Akinfolarin (Odigbo/Ile Oluji) and Akintoye Albert (Okitipupa/Irele).

The source, who blamed Akeredolu for the situation that led to the victory of Omogunwa because he was trying to impose Lucky Ayedatiwa as senatorial candidate which the national secretarial prevented and retained Omogunwa.

“What I can tell you is that for now, the three Reps are just finding different means to adopt as campaign strategies because unlike their counterparts in the Central and North, who have a good ground to go round with their senatorial candidates, the situation in the South is a bit difficult.

“It is technically the turn of Ileoluji/Okeigbo to produce a senator for the district.

“Our fear is for this situation not to affect their chances and that of Mr President because the elections will take place the same day and you know what that means to the system,” the source said.

No party official was willing to speak yesterday on the matter.

  • Ondo APC: We are still intact

The  All Progressives Congress (APC)in Ondo State has said that the report on the proposed defection by aspirants is false.

The party in a statement by its spokesman, Alex Kalejaye, said the reaction was imperative to erase the erroneous impression, and assure party faithful that the chapter is intact. He said APC will resolve to handle whatever grievances that might have arisen from the primaries.

Among prominent names that have been pencilled down for defection are Lucky Ayedatiwa and Dr. Tunji Abayomi, a senatorial hopeful from Ondo North.

Ayedatiwa is the Ondo State representative on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, and senatorial aspirant from Ondo South.

The statement said: ”There is no iota of truth in such permutation, and imaginative analysis. Hon. Ayedatiwa, for example, has said repeatedly that he would never leave the APC for any other party.

“Like Ayedatiwa, most aspirants, from the senatorial, the House of Representatives, to the State House of Assembly, have put the primaries behind them and are currently preoccupied with how the party would triumph during the general elections.”

The party, however, said it is not under any illusions that there is need to reach some members that might have picked offence at the party decisions, with a view to pacifying them, to enhance the party’s chances in 2019.

  • Ondo: APC returns Boroffice, others as Senatorial candidates

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has returned the senators representing the three senatorial districts in Ondo State as its candidate for the senatorial election scheduled for early next year.

They are Prof. Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North), Yele Omogunwa (Ondo South) and Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo Central).

The party had earlier postponed the primary election scheduled to hold in the state on Tuesday.

But the leadership of the party later gave a directive that the three serving senators should retain their seats after 2019 polls.

Party delegates had earlier converged on the various polling centres of the party across the state before the postponement was announced.

Few hours later, a directive was also given that the three serving senators should be returned, being the only ones that satisfied the
requirements of the party and performed satisfactorily in the screening exercise conducted by the national secretariat of the party.

Boroffice hailed the national leadership of the party for its wisdom in fortifying the party.

He said the screening exercise conducted by the party was a welcome development, stressing that the party would retain the three senatorial seats after 2019 Senatorial poll.

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has felicitated with Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi on his 50th birthday.

In a statement by its spokesman Alex Kalejaye, the party described Ajayi as a notable figure worthy to be celebrated.

It said: “On behalf of our party and the good of Ondo State, we rejoice with the deputy governor as he hits the golden age.

“As a party, we identify with the achievements of Ajayi, particularly his immense contributions to the political development of the state.

“As a member of the House of Representatives, he employed his wealth of experience and connections to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the plight of the Niger Delta region in Ondo State.”

The party prayed God to continue to preserve and equip him for the greater tasks ahead.

  • Alleged Imposition: Ondo APC reacts to protest

The All Progressives Congress(APC)in Ondo state has described the protest as unfortunate for party members that were not well informed to protest what they termed ‘imposition’ of candidates ahead of local elections.

According to a statement by its spokesman,Alex Kalejaye,”the party does not, and has no intention to impose any aspirant, which is not even in the best interest of the people he aspires to represent.

“Although it is a family affair, but we say categorically that the Ondo State chapter of the Congress has only allowed the process to run its course in the state and candidates emerged.
