    Osaze gets WBA guarantee

Osaze Odemwingie has been given a guarantee on his future, after Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay insists he will ‘100 per cent not be resigning’ despite the ultimatum from the club’s Malaysian owner Vincent Tan.

The 41-year-old has been told by the Bluebirds chairman to quit or face being sacked, but Mackay said after his side’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool that he will not voluntarily walk away from the Welsh club.

Mackay, who spoke at length with League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan after the game at Anfield, admitted his relationship with Tan had totally broken down but claimed he could not ‘look himself in the mirror’ if he were to quit.

“I’ve got a steely determination and a passion for my job and for what I do and have done for the football club for the last two-and-a-half years” he told BBC radio Wales.

“Anything after that is out of my control and something that you should be finding out really from other people at our football club.

The former Watford boss stayed on the Anfield pitch after Saturday’s match to applaud Cardiff’s fans, who had chanted support for the Scot and held up banners against Tan.

    Osaze to start against Norwich

Cardiff striker Peter Odemwingie is set to make another start for his side when they travel to take on Norwich in an English Premier League game this weekend.

The only injury worry for the Bluebirds striker Andreas Cornelius could sit out the tie, as he is still struggling with a foot injury which has prevented him from playing since the Capital One Cup clash with Accrington.

Odemwingie and Fraizer Campbell will be pushing to start again while Jordon Mutch will also be hoping his recent form is enough to get him the nod.

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay takes his side to struggling Norwich on Saturday with both sides desperate for a win to drag themselves away from the wrong end of the table.

The Nigeria international was on the line-up and bagged a goal when Cardiff lost 2-1 to Newcastle United on October 5.

Fulham v Cardiff City: Osaze may start today

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay could choose to hand Peter Odemwingie a first Premier League start for his new club today. Odemwingie scored in the midweek Capital One Cup defeat at West Ham and could replace Fraizer Campbell. Mackay is otherwise expected to stick with the side that suffered a last-gasp defeat to Tottenham last weekend. However, Andrew Taylor will make his 100th appearance for the club, while Kevin McNaughton has joined Bolton on a month-long emergency loan.

Meanwhile, Fulham defender Aaron Hughes and midfielder Bryan Ruiz face fitness tests as they have been absent with respective thigh and ankle injuries. Ashkan Dejagah (calf), Matthew Briggs (hernia) and first-choice goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg (shoulder) are still out.

    Osaze delighted with Cardiff

Super Eagles estranged striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie has expressed delight in penning a two-year deal with newly promoted Barclays English Premier League side Cardiff-based in Wales.

Speaking after the deal was completed, Odemwingie told the official website, cardiffcityfc.co.uk: ” I’m delighted to complete my move to Cardiff City. I’m looking forward to this fresh start at a club that is really going places, a team that’s progressing fast.

“I’ve seen a little bit of the City and I know that my wife and I will really enjoy living in Cardiff. I can’t wait to get started – this move makes me very happy.”

He said on Twitter : ” Absolutely delighted to be joining Cardiff City FC! Can’t wait to hear the famous Cardiff fans roar! I promise goals.”

In 87 English Premier League appearances for West Brom, Odemwingie netted 30 goals. He will start training with his new teammates later in the week.

Osaze ready for fresh start at Cardiff City

Peter Odemwingie says he is ready for a fresh start in the Premier League, after the striker joined Cardiff City from West Bromwich Albion in a £2.25m deal.

The Nigeria international, 32, has signed a three-year deal at the Cardiff City Stadium, after completing a medical on deadline day.

“It’s a fresh start, a whole new beginning,” Odemwingie told BBC Sport.

“I’ve joined a club with a strong determination to achieve their goals.”

It brings to an end Odemwingie’s three-year association with the Baggies, having joined in 2010 from Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow.

He rejected late interest from both West Ham and Stoke City to join Cardiff.

“I’d like to thank the West Brom fans and staff for everything. I’ll definitely take with me the positives and great memories,” Odemwingie added.

“Cardiff City showed great intent to bring me here. I have to thank the manager and everyone involved in making this transfer happen.

“There are talented and dedicated players in the team, everyone is moving in the right direction and I also want to make a strong contribution as well.”

Odemwingie started his career in Nigeria with Bendel Insurance before switching to Belgian side La Louviere.

Further stints at French club Lille and Lokomotiv Moscow followed before joining the Baggies for £2.5m in 2010.

He made 100 appearances, scoring 31 goals for the Midlands club.

Odemwingie failed in a bid to force a move to QPR last January and he has played a bit-part at West Brom since.

The striker has not played for Baggies boss Steve Clarke so far this season and was out of contract at The Hawthorns at the end of the season.

“I have a bright start ahead of me. There’s no point looking back or worry over something you can’t change. It’s all in my past,” he said.

“It’s important to focus my energy on positive things. I can only wish everyone all the very best in life. “It’s been a year of learning, finding incredible joy with my young family and significantly a fresh beginning at Cardiff City.

“There are expectations and I honestly can’t wait to get started.”

  • Osaze goes shopping in UK

    Osaze goes shopping in UK

Wantaway West Brom striker Peter Osaze Odewingie has been spotted in London a day before transfer deadline day yet again.

This time though, it wasn’t to negotiate a transfer away from the club – though he admitted West Ham were interested – it was to look for sales of his own on Oxford Street.

The Nigerian forward has barely featured for his club since driving down to QPR without a deal in place on the last day of the January transfer window last season.

It is expected he will be leaving this time around though, after a move to the middle-east broke down earlier in the summer.

Odemwingie, now 32, has a ratio of a goal every three games in the Premier League, but his age and attitude may put off potential suitors.

We wait to see which ground he will be falsely turning up at on Monday.

Swansea City are unlikely to continue their pursuit for Super Eagles Osaze Peter Odemwingie after refusing to meet West Bromwich Albion’s £4m (about 1.32billion) asking price for the striker.

Michael Laudrup wants to add another forward to his squad before the close of the transfer window to help ease the goalscoring burden on Michu and new signing Wifried Bony.

Odemwingie, 32, is up for sale following his disciplinary problems at the Hawthorns last season, but Wales on Sunday understands that the Swans are only willing to pay £2.5m for the Nigerian.

Instead, Laudrup will return to the Spanish market to try and lure Getafe striker Alavro Vazquez, who scored four goals in 25 La Liga games during the 2012-2013 campaign, to the Liberty Stadium.

Premier League clubs Cardiff City and Stoke City are also apparently considering bids for Odemwingie.

    • Nigerian star a ‘big if’, says West Brom boss

West Brom have slammed £4 million (about N1.32 billion) on Osaze after receiving offers from three EPL sides, Cardiff and Stoke in the region of £2million, with a £1.8million bid from Swansea.

There were further talks on Friday between the clubs, which could yet see the matter resolved. Osaze, aged 32, is out of contract next summer but Albion are wary that they would be selling a proven goal scorer to a Premier League rival.

West Brom boss Steve Clarke has admitted Osaze Odemwingie’s future at the club is unclear, saying it is “a big if” the striker would stay.

Clarke said he is braced for the uneasy prospect of bringing Osaze back into his first-team plans – as interested clubs struggle to match Albion’s valuation for the striker.

Albion are still trying to bring in at least two offensive players before today’s deadline, with Marseille’s Morgan Amalfitano one of the targets.

The striker has trained on his own since returning to the club following the summer break. He has not been named in any of Albion’s squads so far.

Clarke now faces the awkward possibility of potentially having to reintegrate the Nigeria striker back into his squad if the player has not been sold by the end of play today.

Clarke said: “There is supposed interest in Peter, but I have been more concerned with trying to get players into the squad.

“I haven’t given it (Odemwingie situation) much thought. If he’s still here on the morning of September 3, then we will deal with that one. I still need a couple more in the forward areas.

“Competition for places is great – last year I ran with five out and out forwards, it worked well and we scored a lot of goals.

“As for Peter, it’s a big if regarding him- a big, big if. Let’s see what happens after that. I will shape my squad after that.”
