Stoke, Cardiff, table N500m for Osaze

Peter Osaze Odemwingie is edging closer to the West Bromwich Albion exit after Stoke and Cardiff both tabled N500m (£2m) bids, as the unending story continues

Swansea are also keen to end Odemwingie’s frustration at the Hawthorns and will step up their interest this week after making an offer that fell short of Albion’s valuation.

Odemwingie is determined to quit the club after a turbulent seven months in which he has failed to start a game since attempting to force a move to Queens Park Rangers last January.

The forward has been made to train away from the first-team by head coach Steve Clarke and been told he will not be considered for selection before the transfer window closes.

Mark Hughes, the Stoke manager, is rivalling Cardiff to sign the Nigeria international but it is understood Swansea are Odemwingie’s preferred destination.

Swansea’s bid of N452m (£1.8m) has been rejected but Brian Laudrup is set to make an improved offer to sign the 32-year-old.

    Cardiff rekindle Osaze’s interest

Cardiff City are now rekindling their interest in West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie. The Nigeria international has had many offers from English clubs and Dubai side Al Nasr.

Odemwingie’s proposed move to Al Nasr is reportedly off, with the club pulling out of the deal after growing frustrated with Albion’s reluctance to meet despite two bids being submitted for the striker.

Nicolas Anelka and Matej Vydra have arrived at the Hawthorns, pushing Odemwingie further down the pecking order.

Manager Malky Mackay wants two wingers and has already lined up a £3million deal for Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero from Morelia in Mexico.

Albion are keen to offload 32-year-old Odemwingie and his wages as they continue negotiations with Manchester City for Scott Sinclair.

    Osaze nears West Brom exit

West Bromwich forward Peter Odemwingie is set to leave the Hawthorns, according to French daily L’Equipe.

The Nigeria international has only made several appearances for the Baggies since trying to engineer a move to QPR in January, while he was also omitted from the squad for pre-season tour of Austria.

This is enough to suggest the Premier League side are looking to cash in on the wantaway forward this summer, with two clubs showing interest in his services so far.

According to L’Equipe, Al-Nasr have already made an offer for the 32-year-old with a view of luring the player to Dubai in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Cardiff City are also keen, but they have yet to make their interest concrete.

Peter Odemwingie, 32, arrived at the Hawthorns from Lokomotiv Moscow in August 2010, and has since made 87 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 30 goals in the process.

  • Fulham, Sunderland, Hull chase Osaze

    Fulham, Sunderland, Hull chase Osaze

Sky Sports understands four Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie.

The 31-year-old forward has been looking for a route out of The Hawthorns for some time, with a deadline day fiasco in January seeing him fail to secure a switch to Queens Park Rangers.

With there being little chance of him being offered a clean slate with the Baggies, it is expected that the Nigeria international will be on the move this summer.

As a proven goalscorer at the highest level, it comes as no surprise to find that numerous clubs are readying an approach for his services.

It is understood that West Ham United, Hull City, Sunderland and Fulham would all welcome Odemwingie into their ranks – joining Crystal Palace in the chase for his services.

He still has a year left to run on his contract at West Brom, but reports suggest that a bid of around £1.5million could be enough to lure the Baggies to the negotiating table.

•I didn’t talk to anybody  about their return to Eagles

•Says playing against Cote d’Ivoire will be tough

Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, has debunked the reports in a section of the media that he has made up his mind to recall runaway Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie and others like Victor Anichebe, Ikechukwu Uche, Obafemi Martins, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Obafemi Martins.

The Eagles gaffer disclosed this to SportingLife during the yesterday morning training session of the team in preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier game against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire billed for Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna this Saturday.

“I didn’t say that. I never said that I am bringing back ant of those names you nave mentioned now (Osaze Odemwingie, Ikechukwu Uche, Obafemi Martins, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Obafemi Martins and Victor Anichebe).

“The only thing I said about (Victor) Anichebe is that I will try to talk to him again and that is it. We have seen Osaze, Martins and the rest of them yet so what more do you guys want?” he responded to the question of recalling the said Eagles stars.

Keshi also confessed that the CHAN qualifier against the Ivorians billed for Kaduna won’t be an easy game as Cote d’Ivoire are also blessed with array of home based stars that are also doing well in their local league. He, however, assured that he would do his best with the support of his assistants and soccer loving Nigerians to get a respectable result in the match slated for Saurday.

“On Saturday, it will be tough because we are playing against Cote d’Ivoire not against Tahiti or Gambia. Cote d’Ivoire has equal potentials back home like Nigeria and top African football playing countries. So it is not going to be an easy game but we hope to have a good score line at the end of the game,” he added.

Bring Osaze, Ike Uche, Anichebe, others back to Eagles – Iroha begs Keshi

Former Super Eagles left back Benedict Iroha has sent a passionate pleas to Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi to please bring back into the team experienced players like Osaze Odemwingie, Victor Anichebe, Ikechukwu Uche, and Kalu Uche to further strengthen the team.

Having followed the Eagles performance in the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup before the Nigerian team was eliminated Iroha disclosed that it was high time for Keshi to recall these players.

“I don’t think it is a difficult issue for Keshi to bring back Osaze Odemwingie, Victor Anichebe, Ikechukwu Uche, Kalu Uche to complement the good work of Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Moses and others to further strengthen this team.

“I know Keshi is gradually working on this team so that we can blend the young and talented players that have doned well so far in this team. I am so sure that Keshi will recall them to the team. We need Osaze and others back and I am happy that Osaze himself said it on his twitter page that he wants to play for the Eagles again. So this a good omen,” the former Eagles left back observed.

Iroha also defended the performance of the Super Eagles in Brazil as he believed that the Nigerian team was not disgraced in the competition despite being ousted by world and European Champions Spain which they lost 3-0 in the last group match played on Sunday.

“To be honest with you I am very impressed with the performance of the boys in the Confederations Cup. They were never disgraced in all the three matches they played before being eliminated.

“They played a good match against Tahiti and also played beautifully against star studded Uruguay. They could have even won the game if not for poor marksmanship most especially in the first half. This was later repeated in the third group match against Spain.

“Eagles could have wrapped up things in the fIrst half but couldn’t convert the begging chances created against the world Champions. So in all I think Nigeria played impressively and showed the world that we have got quality. As we know Team Coach Stephen Keshi is still building this team and the Eagles can only get better with time,”

Iroha told SportingLife in Abuja yesterday.

    OSAZE CELEBRATES WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

EX-SUPER Eagles ace, Osaze Odemwingie celebrated his first wedding aniversary on Sunday.

The Nigerian who married Sarah Fallon on 26 May 2012- after two years of dating, now has a son. The West Brom striker took to his Twitter page @OdemwingieP

to tweet: “Our 1year anniversary today. It’s been a beautiful

year! Thank God for His grace.”

“Thanks for the congratulations and good wishes. We are wishing you the same. Lets enjoy the summer. Sorry 4those in SA, its our turn now.”

  • Osaze will leave West Brom- Manager

Osaze will leave West Brom- Manager

West Brom manager Steve Clarke has said that forward Peter Odemwingie will not be welcome at the club beyond this season.

The Nigerian has been in consistent trouble with the club since his botched January transfer to Queens Park Rangers. Odemwingie, 31, drove from Birmingham to London only to be turned back at the gate by Rangers security. Afterwards he’s taken to Twitter to attack the club.

His future will be decided in the summer. I don’t think he’ll be here next season,” Clarke was quoted by BBC Sport.

“I’ve stuck by him because he’s talented and I need as many talented players as I can get.

“I think over the last four months I’ve done as much I can to put up with it.

“To be honest over the last four months he hasn’t really played for my side. He’s been in and around the place but his contribution since January has been very, very little.

“The disappointment for me is that before January, when he was fit and available, I think he played over 70% of the games, produced good performances and scored goals.

“And in the second half of the season I haven’t had that player, so that’s the disappointing thing for me as a coach,” concluded Clarke.

  • My goals put money in West Brom’s pocket – Osaze

My goals put money in West Brom’s pocket – Osaze

NIGERIA international, Osaze Peter Odemwingie has revealed that he would ‘take a bullet’ for Goran Popov following the recent support of his closest Albion ally.

The Baggies striker admits that the relationship with some of his team-mates has become strained yet his friendship with the left-back has never faded.

Odemwingie realised the true mark of the man during Albion’s last home game where he clashed with a fan after being abused in front of his wife and four-month old son.

Popov was not involved in the Wigan game so was therefore sitting in the stands near to the Nigerian’s family when supporters turned on him as he warmed up from the substitutes bench.

As soon as the fans started to taunt the former hero, the on-loan Dyanmo Kiev ace attempted to diffuse the situation. But despite the signals falling on deaf ears, Odemwingie was more than grateful for his attempts.

“When I was warming up, Goran was sitting behind my wife in the stadium, and when the fans started booing, he stood up and tried to get the fans to stop,” said Odemwingie.

“He said, ‘This is a human being, whose wife and kids are here’, He stood up to the fans and told them to stop. To me he is one in a billion.

“To be honest he is someone I could take a bullet for. There are very few people like him in football.

“I’m not that close to anyone at Albion now, but with Goran I am. We speak a lot in Russian.”

Explaining what happened during his last Hawthorns visit, Odemwingie added: “It was not a nice game for me.

“I got a bit of time on the pitch during the last game at Manchester City and I heard the little negativity from the fans when I came on, but I’m used to it now. What happened against Wigan was worse.

“I’m not trying to look like the perfect man. I have a temper and I lose it sometimes when something extraordinary happens. But I think it’s unfair that the fans attack you calling you an ‘overpaid this and that’.

“The Wigan game was the first game my wife and son came to. It was a total surprise, I didn’t even know they were there. I had got rid of all of my tickets, but my wife got a ticket and went to the game.

“During the warm-up I saw them there so I went and spoke to them because I had to welcome my son into the stadium, it was his first game. You can’t really tell but I think he enjoyed it!

“When the fans started booing I could take that, but one guy gave me a lot of abuse and there were kids around which is not nice. And this guy who calls me names in the last game is not such a perfect human being either because he’s saying these things when there are children around him.

“The way Goran tried to stop it made me realise what type of a person he is.”

Whether either of them with be at Albion come the start of next season remains to be seen. Popov’s future is still undecided, as is Odemwingie’s – the forward has 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Both players could have played their last game in blue and white.

Should Odemwingie not feature in next weekend’s final home game with Manchester United, he will more than likely bow out with boos ringing in his ears.

“I’m used to it now, if fans boo, they boo,” he said. “I have a year left on my contract and the club have proven a point that a contract is a contract. I believe I have contributed a lot. My goals have helped retain Premier League status which has brought a lot of money to the club.

“And the honest truth is that in the stadium and at the training ground I have good relationship with most people.

“But I’m 90 per-cent sure that the best thing for me is to leave.”

  • Hope Rising for Yobo, Osaze

    Hope Rising for Yobo, Osaze

Super Eagles Head Coach Stephen Keshi has given a hint of possible invitation of team captain Joseph Yobo and Osaze Odenwingie after the FIFA Confederations Cup holding in Brazil later next month.

The Big Boss said that the two players are an integral part of his team, but would have to wait until after busy June schedule. “I have never at any point wished both Yobo and Osaze away. Remember Joseph Yobo is my captain, and he remains an integral part of my team. Same to Osaze Odenwingie, another talented player, I have said it severally that every Nigerian player is part of my team. But I cannot invite all of them at the same time.

“My invitation can always be as the need arises. We know Joseph Yobo, we know Osaze Odenwingie, we know what they can do, so we need to look at other younger players and also give them the opportunity to express themselves. Nigeria is blessed with thousands of players and with time we would get to see most of them. The only player that cannot be invited is that one that does not want to play for the country. But, if you are a Nigerian player, no matter where you are based, when the need arises, you would be given the opportunity,” he said.

The former national team captain said having submitted his initial list of 30 players to FIFA for the Confederations Cup out of which 23 will be finally picked, it would be difficult making other inclusions now.

“You know that the Confederations Cup is like the World Cup, where you have a time frame to submit a provisional list of 30 players out of which 23 would be finally selected for the tournament. We have done that, and are not ready to alter it for now. We would stick to that, and see how it would go after the matches in June, the two senior players may be given another opportunity,” he added.

Osaze Odenwingie has never had it easy with the national team Coaches right from the days of Samson Siasia, and played last for the Super Eagles last year in a Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Kigali. While Joseph Yobo who was chasing a hundredth cap for the country felt slighted by Coach Stephen Keshi when he was not invited for the Super Eagles last World Cup qualifier against Kenya in Calabar. His outburst cost him a possible invitation for the busy June schedule.
