PDP to Oshiomhole: Stop threatening Ize-Iyamu with EFCC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday asked Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, to stop threatening the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Describing the threat as preposterous, the party said Oshiomhole is nervous and unsettled by the PDP’s moving train, which it said will uproot the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state.

In a statement issued by its caretaker committee spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the party asked how it became the governor’s duty to dictate to the EFCC, wondering when Oshiomhole become an operative of the anti-corruption agency.

The statement said, “We have observed in recent times the utterances of the Governor of Edo State during the APC’s gubernatorial campaigns ahead of the September 10, 2016 election in the state.

“We wish to remind the Governor that he should maintain the sanctity of his office as an executive Governor of the state instead of directing the EFCC on who to arrest or prosecute.”

The PDP further stated that Governor Oshiomhole’s threat confirmed the belief and the opinion of perceptible Nigerians that the anti-corruption war of the present administration is nothing but a partisan political agenda to intimidate, suppress and silence the PDP.

“Governor Adams Oshiomhole is desperate to hang on to power through his imposed stooge, despite the fact that he has lost the trust and confidence of the people of Edo State,” the statement added.

The party lampooned what it described as the despicable and uncouth language deployed by the governor against the person of Pastor Ize-Iyamu, which it said, was clearly unbecoming of the holder of the high office of Governor of a state.

Why Ize-Iyamu is not in my administration – Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday gave reasons why the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is not in his administration.

Oshiomhole said he didn’t trust Pastor Ize-Iyamu because of the roles he played in the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion.

The governor said he gave appointments to people he trusted.

“I didn’t want to spend time watching Ize-Iyamu’s files,” he stated.

Oshiomhole, who spoke at the All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign rally in Oredo local government area of the state, said he opted to “keep Ize-Iyamu busy by holding night meetings and saying all the lies.”

The governor said the PDP governorship candidate begged him to be made the Director-General of his campaign organisation in 2012 after he refused to drop Dr. Pius Odubu as his running mate.

“I never gave Pastor Ize-Iyamu government job. I gave jobs to those I trusted. Pastor Ize-Iyamu would have done to me what he did to Lucky Igbinedion.

“It was because we kept him away from government that we were able to succeed and deliver on electoral promises. I didn’t allow him access to public fund. Edo cannot go back to what it was before.

“I laughed when he said he made me governor. G and check the record, on election day, Ize-Iyamu did not as he was hiding from the EFCC. I have made my name and I worked hard for the Nigerian workers. We are not tied to anybody’s apron,” he added.

Oshiomhole is our common enemy, Yakubu tells kinsmen

EDO State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) running mate John Yakubu yesterday told his kinsmen in Edo Central Senatorial District to see the All Progressives Congress (APC) and GovernorAdams Oshiomhole as their common enemies.

He said the APC and its candidate must be defeated for the zone to witness development.

Yakubu urged the people of Esan to avoid voting for the APC and its governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, in the September 10 governorship election.

He spoke at Uromi, headquarters of Esan Northeast Local Government Area at the party’s zonal campaign rally.

Yakubu, who was a former chairman of the council, told the people how Oshiomhole declined to honour a request by late Chief Anthony Enahoro to complete the UromiCassavita Factory.

He accused Oshiomhole of having hatred for the Esan people by frustrating the Ewu/Ibore Erosion Control Scheme and the tarring of Udo and Idijie streets in Uromi amongst other projects.

He said: “Few months before his death, Chief Anthony Enahoro took me to Oshiomhole and begged Adams to allow the Cassavita factory work. Adams assured him, but many years afer, the Cassavita factory has not worked.

“Oshiomhole wrote a letter to the Secretary to Government of the Federation not to give attention to the gully erosion in Ibore and Ewu. I have a copy of the letter written by Adams Oshiomhole dated 24th November 2014, and I will circulate it throughout Edo State.”

State Chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih, challenged the governor to prove to Edo people that the party’s governorship candidate, Pastor OsagieIze-Iyamu, stole money belonging to the state when he served as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government  between 199 and 2007.

He alleged that N2 billion Bank of Industry (BoI) loan meant for Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs (SMSE) was given to the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, and that “the money has ended in the pockets of the so-called party leaders and delegates of the APC”.

He went on: “If there is any evidence suggesting that our candidate took money from government, Oshiomhole would have published it in the newspapers. I challenge Oshiomhole to come out with any paper he can use to take him to court for his years in government.

“Let him explain the source of his wealth. I challenge him to take journalists on a facility tour of his private residence in Iyamho.

“Let him call for independent estate valuers to give us the true value of the property. We are aware that he has built a swimming pool on top of the house worth billions of naira.”

  • Treasury looters can’t be Edo Gov —Oshiomhole

Treasury looters can’t be Edo Gov —Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says self-confessed treasury looters will be rejected at the polls on September 10, by the people of Edo State.

Speaking during a visit to him by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, pn Tuesday, Oshiomhole said those who looted the nation’s treasury and have confessed to stealing public funds are now offering themselves to govern Edo State.

He said: “I know there are a lot of people who don’t quite understand what is going on. Our party inherited a federal treasury that was completely bastardized, emptied, emptied from the vaults to soak away pits, to farm houses, and even in Edo here, the people who are asking for Edo votes are those who have already made statements to EFCC that they collected N500 million, N700 million: that is already N1.2 billion. And their leader confessed in his own right that he collected N300 million from money meant to secure Nigerians against terrorism called Boko haram. And it is people who diverted such money, who collected it and they have owned up to it in black and white in their hand writing that are asking Edo people to surrender the state.

“So for us, our campaign message is cut out for us. The choice is between a bunch of people whose philosophy is ‘share the state money’ and those who believe that the state money belongs to the people, and the task is for the governor to manage it in a way that will deliver prosperity to the people.”

Governor Oshiomhole commended the Lagos Governor for taking his assignment as the chairman, APC national campaign council for Edo State governorship election very seriously. He said, “For us in Edo, it is clear that you have taken this assignment seriously. It is one thing to accept an assignment, but the passion with which you have accepted it, and to the extent to which you are determined to go to ensure that we do everything we need to do to continue to retain the governance of this state.

“Under your leadership, I have no doubt. We couldn’t have had a better campaign organization. So, I thank you for that.”

Oshiomhole who introduced the Governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his running mate, Mr Philip Shaibu to Governor Ambode said, “We have a credible messenger that you are going to be able to help us to market, and we also have a compelling message to put across to Edo State. And we believe the election will be won on the basis of the pedigree of the political parties, the pedigree of the individual and what the two parties have to show to the people.”

On his part, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State assured that Lagos and Edo States will immediately develop a major commerce and economic relationship as soon as Mr Godwin Obaseki emerges as Governor of Edo State, saying this will ensure that Edo develops at a faster pace.

He said “I have come here this afternoon to accept physically the daunting task which has been laid upon me by our national party and appointing me as the chairman of the gubernatorial campaign committee of the gubernatorial election coming up in Edo State.

“I am very pleased and humbled by that appointment. And I have come here, firstly, to apologize for not being around on Saturday when the committee was inaugurated because of some exigencies, and to show my presence a few days after, and my commitment to ensure that our gubernatorial candidate not only wins the election, but he is able to show his footprints just like what the present governor has done, that the APC and the change mantra is really in totality about what we want governance to be in Nigeria.”

He promised to establish bilateral relations between Lagos and Edo State, “What I can promise your Excellency is that we have decided that we will bring the whole machinery of the Lagos model to Edo State. In addition to that, we believe strongly that Edo State has the potential of becoming a giant in Africa also, and this relationship is beyond the fact that it is historic, we also want to use this platform of this campaign to start a major paradigm shift in terms of economic and political relationship between Edo State and Lagos State.

“If we are to look deeply, we believe strongly in the potential of Edo State which actually lies in the symbolic relationship that it can have with Lagos. And that is why I am personally taking this responsibility of being the campaign chairman to ensure that beyond the campaign and the success of the election, a major commerce and economic relationship commences immediately with the in-coming governor, and also to let us actually start to have bilateral economic and political relations that will be of benefit to the people of Edo State, firstly, and then to the improvement of the economic growth of Edo State.”

Governor Ambode concluded, “I like to also say that what we have ahead of us as a party, that is, APC, is beyond ordinary election. We need to take Nigeria out of its doldrums, and the only party that can do that is APC, of which we are happy to be aligned with your state and other progressive states in the country. And that is why we are here as brothers, we offer ourselves and we will continue to also send the same message across board across all the progressive states.”

Ambode said, “On a personal note, I am very proud of all the things you have done for Edo State and even this country Nigeria, and I can say the few achievements I have actually attained in Lagos State were driven and inspired by the kind of energy you bring to governance, and I am very proud to be associated with you and the government of Edo State.”

Edo people will compel Oshiomhole to hand-over to me

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation has said that the people of Edo State will compel Governor Adams Oshiomhole to hand over to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in November this year against his wish, saying the good people of the state are desirous to change the ‘change’ that has brought misery, suffering, hike in fuel, food prices, obnoxious taxes and levies, and worst of all, deceitfulness.

‘’The good people of our state have resolved and will vote PDP’s flag bearer, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, overwhelmingly on Saturday, September 10 2016’’, the campaign organisation stated in a press statement issued on Sunday.

‘’And we pray to Almighty God to protect and preserve the out-going governor’s life — so that he can witness the hand-over ceremony that will usher in Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to Denis Osadebe House in November this year.’’

The organisation advised the outgoing governor to hold his head in shame for squandering the huge state’s funds, which has now resulted to the state’s inability to pay local government workers’ salaries for 15 to 17 months, and other socio-economic crisis enveloping the state today.

The PDP governorship campaign organisation also asked Oshiomhole-led APC government to explain to the people of Edo State how he squandered over N1.7 trillion of the Federal Allocations and Internal Generated Revenue he had collected in the last seven and a half years and his stinky, questionable, scandalous wealth.

Responding to the governor’s outburst during the flag off of the APC governorship campaign in Benin City on Saturday, the organisation said, ‘’It a shame that Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State still talks about corruption —— accusing innocent people of corruption, when his government stinks of corruption.’’

Ikimi a serial loser, says Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has described a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Tom Ikimi, as a serial election loser during the launching of the party’s governorship poll campaign in the state on Saturday.

The governor also took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party, saying it underdeveloped the state.

He said the PDP deprived Edo State of basic infrastructure under the disguise that it was a civil service state.

About Ikimi, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oshiomhole said, “Throughout the period that Ikimi was with us, and I respect him at least because he has capacity to lose election serially, we never won elections in Igueben. When he left, we felt relieved.

“He (Ikimi) said he was leaving because we elected a new chairman (Chief John Odigie-Oyegun). But this is a party chairman who has been a permanent secretary at the age of 40, not by quota but by merit. He fought for democracy, went on exile and came back. He founded a political party; we elected him as the party chairman and he (Ikimi) said that they took his pot of soup.”

At the ceremony, the APC Chairman, Odigie-Oyegun, handed the party’s flag to Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and his running mate, Philip Shuaibu, as the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the party in the September 10 election.

Oyegun was led by other leaders of the party at the state and national levels to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, where the event took place, under heavy presence of security operatives from the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

No fewer than 13 APC governors were present at the venue.

They included the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Rochas Okorocha; Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Simon Lalung (Plateau), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna) and Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi).

The governors of Niger, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Bornu, Kwara, Oyo and Kogi were represented by their deputies.

According to Oyegun, Obaseki is a “brain box” in whom the APC is well pleased.

He stated that the party was proud of the achievements of the incumbent governor in the last seven and a half years.

    … Governor, deputy reconcile

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, have resolved their differences and vowed to work for the victory of Mr Godwin Obaseki during the election.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC at the Government House, Benin City, yesterday,  the governor said the APC family was united, in spite of reports of cracks in the party.

He said: “We called this meeting basically to reaffirm the oneness of the All Progressives Congress (APC) family. The deputy governor and I have worked together as deputy and governor for seven and half years, and we have struggled together as candidate and running mate from 2007; we worked together, dined together, socialized together.”

Oshiomhole added: “As part of my own atonement, and to demonstrate my commitment to our friendship and our conviviality, which characterize our working together for the past seven and half years or even nine years, some of the people who were affected in the course of this contestation, I have decided to re-engage, to reinstate them to their former positions wherever that was possible and even to get their remuneration restored as if they were never removed.”

Odubu reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, saying that he will campaign for Obaseki.

He said: “Yesterday belongs to the past, and we have decided to put the past behind us. Today is another day, and I want to in the presence of my father here and everybody here present reaffirm my commitment to this party APC and to its victory at all elections.

“We will work even harder than we have ever worked, because anybody who has occupied any office like a proud father will want to leave a successor behind. We want to leave with our party APC remaining in government.”

  • Oshiomhole recalls sacked aides

In a demonstration of total reconciliation between Governor Adams Oshiomhole and his deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, all aides of the governor sacked or suspended for supporting Odubu have been recalled.

Oshiomhole announced this at a reconciliatory meeting held with Odubu on Tuesday.

The governor said the party primaries was to demonstrate internal democracy and distinguished the All Progressive Congress (APC) from other political parties.

He noted that the step taken towards reconciliation was in the interest of the APC and honesty of purpose on his part.

He said, “The deputy governor and I have worked together, dined together and socialized together. For time it’s being in the news that the deputy governor and I are not in good term. I believe watchers of Nigeria politics will agree that Pius and I have had an extremely cordial relationship and I have had without any prompting agree that in my working with Pius I found him to be absolutely loyal, dedicated and committed.

“Nobody was able to infiltrate us and nobody ever came to settle a quarrel between the deputy governor and I in the past seven and half years. Some times when we joke we don’t relate as boss and subordinate but as brothers as we have been.

“Pius and I fought many battles, both political battles as well as battles to reposition this government and together we can effortlessly point out what our stewardship accomplished for the benefit of the people of Edo State. I believe all these formed the foundation for the electioneering campaign that is about to begin. Having worked so hard and related so closely, there is no question Pius and I in and outside government will remain friends and comrades.

“The primaries have come and gone. As a governor, I took some decisions some of which clearly affected some of the supporters of my brother the deputy governor.

“As part of my own atonement and to demonstrate my commitment to our friendship, some of the people who were affected in the cause of this contestation I have decided to reinstate them to their former positions and even to get their remuneration reinstalled.

“I believe that when a leader shows compassion and demonstrate spirit of forgiveness and calls his younger ones, pat them on the back and say return home, it is not a mark of weakness, it simply shows that we are ever conscious that as humans there are times to make mistakes and times to correct them.

Responding, Odubu reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and victory at all elections.

  • Emulate Oshiomhole on minimum wage, Labour advises governors

Emulate Oshiomhole on minimum wage, Labour advises governors

Organised labour in Edo State has called on other governors to emulate their Edo State counterpart Adams Oshiomhole on workers’ welfare.

A joint statement signed by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) chairmen, Comrades Emmanuel Ademokun and Marshal Ohue described Oshiomhole as a pace setter who should be emulated for increasing workers’ salary without agitation, especially at  a time when many governors could not pay salaries.

Oshiomhole had during the Workers’ Day celebration promised to increase the minimum wage from N18,000 to N25,000, and this was effected in workers’ salaries last month.

Meanwhile, TUC has urged leaders to be upright and God fearing.

In a statement signed by its  President Comrade Bobboi Kaigama to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration, TUC called on the leaders to learn from the lessons of Ramadan, which are to be upright and honest for Nigeria to compete with other nations.

“One of the things fasting does is that it humbles you and helps check acts of ungodliness. It is rather unfortunate that what we have had over the years is that people claim a form of godliness during fasting, but turn otherwise on its completion.

‘’The leadership of our dear country and politicians have a lot to learn here, and we encourage them to do so. This is the period we must match our words with action,” the statement said.

Continuing, he said: “We all should understand that our purpose in life here is to live in obedience to our creator’s will and make other people happy. We all must take advantage that the celebration has provided the opportunity to pray for the return of peace in the country; an end to terrorism and every form of disaster and the gross waste of our national assets by the militants. Peace and development are like Siemens twins, which is what we need in Nigeria of our dream.”

Kaigama called on Muslims faithful to remain self-disciplined, work for the progress of the country and accommodate every Nigerian irrespective of their religious orientation as these appear to be the only recipe for development.

Thieves are now on the run, says Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has said that thieves that brought Nigeria to its kneels are now on the run.

He said dubious politicians will not succeed him in office.

Oshiomhole said God’s vengeance could be seen in the confusion in the Peoples Democratic Party because the party destroyed the country.

He spoke when he feted Muslims in the state at the state house as part of the Id-el-Fitri celebration.

Oshiomhole assured the Muslims community that Nigeria would be a great country again with the actions taken by President Mohammadu Buhari.

He said the Muslims should thank Allah for making President Mohammadu Buhari

He said President Buhari has to be rigid to be able to find the thieves as well as avoiding building on a foundation already destroyed by the PDP.
