Real Madrid are reportedly considering making a move for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen during this summer’s transfer window.

The Nigeria international has been in excellent form on loan at Galatasaray during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 28 times and registering five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Osimhen, as it stands, will return to Napoli this summer, but he is widely expected to leave the Italian giants on a permanent basis, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in his signature.

Manchester United continue to be heavily linked with the 26-year-old, who has scored 76 goals and registered 12 assists in 133 appearances for Napoli in all competitions since his arrival from Lille in 2020.

However, according to Fichajes, there is also interest from Real Madrid, with Los Blancos considering making a move for the Nigerian during this summer’s transfer window.

The report claimed  that Real Madrid view Osimhen as a possible replacement for Vinicius Junior, as the Brazilian continues to be linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Juventus are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the 26-year-old has also emerged as a priority target for the struggling Serie A giants.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has been in London this past.

It’s been suggested that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has been England to meet with Chelsea and Manchester United about the future of Osimhen, according to  Il Mattino.

Osimhen’s contract with Napoli carries a €75m buyout clause, which can be triggered this summer.

Juventus are also interested, though Napoli would prefer to see Osimhen not return to Serie A.

Chelsea failed in an attempt for Osimhen in January and will try again as they seek a new centre-forward signing. United are also interested, though must sell before buying this summer.

Napoli have placed a 75 million Euros release clause on Osimhen, but it appears the clubs want a discount.

This comes at a time when Juventus have opened discussions with the striker’s entourage.

Osimhen will be open to the rival Italian club, but the big issue is that there is no love lost between Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and his former sports director Guintoli, who is now in charge of transfers at Juventus.

“I haven’t decided about my future yet. Right now, my only focus is Galatasaray’s championship. I will make this team a champion,” the forward was quoted by Web Aslan.

Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen has sent his Turkish Super Lig side, Galatasaray to the semi-final of the Turkish Cup after his double stunned Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce 2-1 yesterday.

Osimhen scored twice in the first half in the 10th  and 27th  minutes with the second coming from the penalty spot and though Fenerbahce reduced the goal arrears before the end of the first half, they could not complete a comeback.

The win has taken Galatasaray to the semi-final of the FA Cup where they will face Konyaspor for a spot to the final on April 22nd .

In-demand Osimhen snubs Juventus for Premier League club

Victor Osimhen has reportedly  told Juventus directors that ‘he’s unwilling to join the Bianconeri’ but would rather  play in the  English Premier League next season.

The Nigerian striker has emerged as one of the Bianconeri ‘s primary candidates for the attack for 2025-26, but the Galatasaray loanee is reportedly aiming for a different club next season.

Osimhen will be available for a €75m clause next summer.

But JuveFC  has hinted that Osimhen  politely  turned down  an offer to join the Old Ladies despite  the  fact  ‘the Bianconeri outlined their vision and ambitions, hoping to convince the Nigerian international to make the switch to Turin’ during their last meeting.

JuveFC noted inter alia: “In an attempt to change his mind, Juventus officials made a final effort to persuade Osimhen by providing a detailed explanation of the club’s long-term plans. They outlined their strategy for competing at the highest level and their ambitions to reclaim dominance in both Serie A and European competitions.

“The club’s leadership emphasised the importance of Osimhen’s potential role in their project, hoping that he would be enticed by the prospect of leading Juventus’ attack in the coming seasons.

Despite their efforts, Osimhen appears to remain focused on moving to a more competitive and globally recognised league. “

However, who is recognised by some as the ‘best striker in the world’, politely rejected the Bianconeri’s approach as the Premier League remains his preferred destination.

Currently  one of the most prolific strikers in European football ,  Osimhen  who was farmed out on loan  from Napoli to Galatasaray, has been in a rich vein of form in the Turkish Super Lig with an impressive  28 goals in 32 matches across all competitions.

The  26-year-old forward has  severally been linked with potential move to  the top English Premier League including  Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal  while there  are other  reports  of a possible move to Paris saint Germain in France or Bayern Munich in Germany.

  • Osimhen remains top  transfer target for Juventus

Osimhen remains top  transfer target for Juventus

Victor Osimhen is the top transfer target for many major clubs across Europe including Italian Serie A club Juventus, who also has fellow Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman in sights.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus sports director Guintoli, who signed Osimhen for Napoli from Lille in 2020, has the 26-year-old striker as his No 1 target this summer.

But Juventus will have to pay premium for Osimhen as the €75 million release clause does not apply for Italian clubs, who will have to negotiate with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

It was further reported that Ademola Lookman is also being considered by Juve, who has resolved the issues that almost marred the transfer from Atalanta of Teun Koopmeiners last summer.

Yet  there  were speculations that  Barcelona has reportedly been offered  to sign Osimhen during the summer transfer window.

The Catalan club is eager to strengthen its squad and is considering strikers as potential successors to the 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski.

According to Diario Sport, both Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic have been proposed to the Catalan giant as the team seeks new clubs.

Osimhen has spent the season on loan at Galatasaray, but the report suggests that a move to Barcelona is unlikely. It is believed that Osimhen does not fit the team’s desired profile, and his €75 million buyout clause, along with his wage demands, are too high for the club.

There is also little optimism regarding a potential signing of Vlahovic, even though the Juventus striker could be available for a lower fee, as he is under contract until 2026 and does not intend to renew.

Elsewhere, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick  reportedly prefers to  sign Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman rather than Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

Lookman has been linked with a transfer away from Atalanta due to his consistently brilliant performances over the past three seasons.

Barcelona’s plans to strengthen their squad with Luis Diaz have reportedly encountered a major obstacle, as Flick and the club’s hierarchy consider the 28-year-old winger an unsuitable fit for the team’s long-term strategy.

According to a report from MARCA, one of the main reasons behind the club’s decision to distance themselves from pursuing Diaz is his age. At 28, the Colombian international no longer fits the profile of younger, more dynamic players that Flick aims to develop at Barcelona.

In contrast, the 27-year-old Lookman has recorded 50 goals and 22 assists in 11 appearances across all competitions, contributing significantly to Atalanta’s first Serie A title last season.

Flick is focused on integrating younger talent into the squad. While Diaz is a skilled and experienced player, Flick prefers to invest in emerging stars like Nico Williams or Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.

Ikpeba frees Osimhen of blame over Uyo outbursts

Former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba believes Victor Osimhen should not be vilified for his outbursts  against his teammates after the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe which ended 1-1 in Uyo.

The Super Eagles recorded their first-ever win in Rwanda, before they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zimbabwe.

“I loved the commitment and attitude of Osimhen, he gave everything and scored three goals,” Ikpeba saluted on SuperSport TV programme Monday Night Football.“There was nothing wrong with him walking out angrily after the Zimbabwe match. Such things happen.”

Ikpeba also commended Eric Chelle for infusing a new fighting spirit in the Super Eagles.

“Had we appointed him earlier, we would have been in a better position on the table,” he said. “Against Zimbabwe, we did enough to win the game, but we did not take our chances.

“We still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup, it’s for the boys to regroup in September and go for it again.”

  • Super Eagles captain, Osimhen

    Super Eagles captain, Osimhen

It is finished. We like listening to ourselves. We dislike being told the bitter truth. We think that things should be swung in our favour simply because we are Nigeria. Indeed. We have forgotten that it is easier to wake up a person deep in sleep than one who is pretending to sleep. For the latter, the pretender, he doesn’t want to listen to you. This is the story of Nigeria’s sports administration succinctly.

Instead of spending the quiet moments before the game on Tuesday evening reflecting on the game, our busybody sports administrators spent time celebrating a likely deduction of three points from South Africa for fielding an unqualified player in their game against Lesotho last week Friday. Bafana Bafana won the match 2-0. The euphoria from a pyrrhic celebration soon got to the boys. And it was being discussed with the media celebrating what wasn’t in the bag, yet. It is important to ask NFF and those media people who escalated the infringement of the law by South Africa if FIFA would award the points to Nigeria instead of Lesotho.

Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees mocked the Nigerian media in Tuesday night’s post-match conference where he reminded them of the need to be humble. “I said before that the World Cup qualification is over when it is over. If it is over for us then it is over for Nigeria also,” Nees said. His statement caused some laughter among the Nigerian journalists, and he replied, “You’re laughing, how many points do you (Nigeria) have?”This jab is below the belt.

Again, we witnessed in Uyo where Nigeria’s Head Coach, Eric Chelle barred visitors, journalists, e.t.c from entering the team’s camp for maximum concentration for the boys. Yet, one of the federation’s sponsors was permitted to showcase their brands with the players captured driving the vehicles a day before the game. You need to have seen Ola Aina’s dexterity on wheels. Let’s ask the federation’s chieftains and Chelle if this exercise wasn’t a distraction. How about those skit-making girls seen on tape creating content from interviewing the players? Our players were the only ones on social media. Pity.

We have surrendered with Chelle having the audacity to tell the media in a post-match press conference held inside the Stadium of Champions in Uyo on Tuesday night that Nigeria can still qualify for the 2026 World Cup as second best nation from Group C. What do you expect from a person who isn’t a world class manager? But even the task of being second best for Nigeria is a mountain to climb because currently the teams occupying these playoff spots are Gabon (15 points), Cameroon (12 points), Senegal (12 points) and Namibia (12 points).

Comoros (12 points), Mozambique (12 points) and Burkina-Faso (11 points) are also ahead of the Super Eagles, who are on seven points.

But for the fact that football is like biscuit where nobody can determine where it would crack, one would have suggested that the Federal Government should authorise the NSC and indeed NFF to begin the preparations towards grabbing the 2030 World Cup qualification ticket like Japan, New Zealand, Iran and Argentina have done with the 2026 edition. These four qualifiers have joined the three co-hosting nations, Canada, Mexico and the United States, as the early birds for the 2026 World Cup competition.

With seven points and an away game to South Africa, it would require the players to play out their skins to beat Bafana Bafana at home in September. It is achievable arithmetically, but not with these players to prosecute the kill-and-go match plans to upset Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg. We would require all the players to play the game with the kind of passion, enthusiasm and hunger for glory displayed by Victor Osimhen in the last two matches, where he has scored three goals despite being marked tightly by at least two defenders.

It is important to stress Osimhen’s significant contributions in the two matches. Of course, had Osimhen been part of the campaign from the beginning, perhaps our situation wouldn’t have been as precarious as it is today. Soon, nations playing against Nigeria would work strategies to stop Osimhen from scoring goals in Nigeria’s matches. That will be the day when certain lessons will be learned.

In fact, Troost-Ekong has apologised to his teammates and assured fans that the team remains focused on securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “Responsibility taken. Same target ahead. We will do it together! Nigeria Super Eagles,” the 31-year-old defender wrote on Twitter, responding to the backlash.

Bafana Bafana’s remaining games are in South Africa. It’s almost impossible for them to lose any of these matches, which incidentally include the tie against Nigeria in September. What did Nigeria do when Lesotho and Zimbabwe chose South Africa as their home venues instead of a neutral ground? On Thursday, Lesotho graciously withdrew their protest against South Africa after they fielded an ineligible player in their 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

As Nigerians, we all want the Super Eagles to be at the Mundial in 2026, but let’s be honest: These players have let themselves down, winning just one game out of six. It’s disturbing that Nigeria failed to beat Zimbabwe over two legs, drawing at home against South Africa and Lesotho and losing to Benin Republic on neutral ground in Cote d’ Ivoire.

Last week, we advocated that if we won all our six games, we would be fine. Now, the tone has changed to us winning our remaining four matches. For how long would we continue to shift the goalpost? Is it until we move it to displace the crowd? Common NSC, NFF, coaches and the players – you have bungled it!

Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medal-winning coach Johannes Bonfrère raised concerns over the team’s tactical approach and lack of ruthlessness in front of the goal.

According to Bonfrere: “I didn’t watch the game, but did the coach not have enough information on Zimbabwe? Did he use the wrong tactics? Or did the players fail to execute the game plan? Was it a loss of concentration? Why couldn’t the attackers score more goals? If they had put away two or three chances, Zimbabwe’s late goal wouldn’t have mattered as much.

“It’s sad, painful, and unfortunate. Small teams are now looking the Super Eagles in the eye and asking, ‘What can you do?’ No team fears them anymore, and that is worrying.”

Can Nigeria still qualify for the 2026 World Cup? Not anymore, great patriot. Let us rebuild the Super Eagles with Osimhen as the team’s captain. Any player older than Osimhen should excuse us. We can use the new squad to prosecute our next four qualifiers and see how well they perform.

Time to infuse the home-based players into the Eagles, beginning with the defenders. don’t you think so? You tell me, dear reader.

Osimhen’s brace revives Super Eagles World Cup hope

Victor Osimhen delivered a first half brace to help the Super Eagles secure their first win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in their 2-0 victory over Amavubi of Rwanda at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali yesterday.

The win ensured the Eagles moved one step closer towards reviving their World Cup Qualification bid with the win placing their in fourth spot with six points in Group C behind South Africa (10 points), Benin Republic (eight points) and Rwanda ( seven points).

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle fielded an attacking lineup, featuring Stanley Nwabali in goal, a defensive quartet of skipper William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, and a midfield duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi. The attacking force included Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen.

Chelle’s attacking strategy paid off in the 11th minute when Osimhen scored with a brilliant finish at the back post, after Lookman’s well-floated cross from a free kick, to give the Super Eagles a much-needed lead.

The Galatasaray frontman struck again just before halftime, controlling a header from Samuel Chukwueze, before racing clear and putting the ball beyond the reach of Rwandan goalkeeper to double the Eagles’ lead. With the damage already done, Osimhen came off in the 77th minute for Tolu Arokodare who came on for his Super Eagles debut.

The 2-0 win means the Super Eagles have now claimed six points, lifting them to fourth place in the table, ahead of Lesotho, who also lost to South Africa 2-0. Meanwhile, Benin Republic are second with eight points while Rwanda remain third with seven points.
