    The Founder of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Founder and Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, Global President of Kingsway International Christian Centre, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and others are billed to attend the 40th anniversary of Abundant Life Gospel Church, Lagos, holding from October 21-27.

    The theme of the event is ‘Next Level’.

    In a statement issued ahead of the anniversary to The Nation yesterday, the General Overseer of Abundant Life Gospel Church, Rev Dr Janet Onaolapo, said the anniversary would have a positive impact on the nation due to the offering of intercessory prayers for Nigeria, as thousands of worshipers from the 20 branches of the church within and outside Nigeria, friends and loved ones were expected to be present.

    She said: “For the past 40 years, God has constantly fought for us in these battles of life. This is our year of the supernatural and we shall all manifest. Get ready to meet the one who answers prayers, get ready for the next level. For 40 years, we’ve been walking in grace and witnessing great leaps.

    “Join us for a powerful experience with the legendary Fathers of Faith and soul-stirring Gospel music ministers.”

    The anniversary, according to the statement, will be held at the 25,000-seater church’s international headquarters, Peace Cathedral, 69, Iju Road, Agege, Lagos with activities such as impactful words, music concerts, special seminars on business, health talks, trade fair, among others.

    Bishop David Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University, revealed that he has not received any salary from the institution since its founding in 2001. 

    He stated that the success stories and personal growth of the students have been his true reward.

    Speaking during the university’s 19th Convocation ceremony, where First and Higher Degrees were conferred and prizes presented, Oyedepo emphasised the significance of these achievements. A total of 1,607 students graduated, including 339 who earned first-class honors, 762 with second-class upper honors, 330 with second-class lower honors, 25 with third class, and 151 from the postgraduate programs.

    Sanmi Rilwan Oluwademilade, a graduate of Industrial Mathematics, emerged as the top student with a Cumulative GPA of 4.99, while Oluwasina Gbemisola Hephzibah from the Department of International Relations earned a 4.97 GPA.

    Oyedepo added that the transformative journeys of Covenant University graduates and their impact in industries such as aviation, fashion, banking, and ICT have been his true compensation throughout the years.

    Oyedepo said: “l said this before God. I have not earn any wages from Covenant University since inception. Your testimonies of success and breakthrough in different field of endeavor has been my earnings and wages.”

    He noted that he did not set out in life to look for what to gain but to contributor meaningfully to the society.

    He opined that focusing on God’s plan and purpose for one’s life is the sure pathway to success in life. 

    He charged the students not to think of what they want to gain but contributor meaningfully to the growth of the society.

    “You are created a contributor. Find a place to contribute. You cannot be a contributor and be a faiure. You will be part of the solution and not those who are problem. 

    “We will see a brand new Nigeria. Don’t jump the fence. You star is where you belong. A commitment to be in the center of God’s plan is very essential”, he noted. 

    He said that the passion of the university came alive to provide an alternate education, in terms of quality that would rescue these young individuals from lifelong crisis.

    The Vice Chancellors of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun

    Adebayo said: “The release of Eagles 2024” were joining our network of over 24,000 Covenant Eagles,who are already soaring globally building the old wastes and raising up the former desolate.

    “The University is immensely grateful to God as another cohort of new generation leaders are being unleashed in the ecosphere as agents of positive change in our nation, continent and the world.”he said.

    In his remarks, the former minister of health, Professor lsaac Adewole, said today is a special day as l have my child as a first class graduates  from this institution.

    He said that what is remarkable about the institution is the character building that  this students are exhibiting. It is evident.

    “The discipline is outstanding and it is the only way to move our nation forward. You have set an example and we are inspire. It is nothing short of a miracle.  

    The Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalalenge said  Covenant University has made Ota one of the choices places to visit in the whole world.

    He thanked the university for the opportunity to serve as a lecturer, admonish the student to soar higher.

    Oyedepo at 70: Akinpelu, others feed 5,000 underprivileged people

    In celebration of the 70th birthday of Bishop David Oyedepo, Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, senior pastors have donated relief materials to over 5,000 underprivileged individuals in Lagos.

    The initiative, led by Dr. Akin Akinpelu, Senior Pastor of Eden Centre, took place during an event called Legacy of Bishop Oyedepo at 70, held at the National Stadium in Lagos.

    The event, which occurred late Sunday night, was attended by Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Leke Adeboye (son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God), the Lagos State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Rev. Yemi Davids, Senior Pastor of The Covenant Nation, Pastor Poju Oyemade, along with other notable pastors and gospel singers.

    Akinpelu explained that the aim was to honour Oyedepo with a crusade and concert to praise God for His blessings in the life of the Bishop and his family.

    He said: “What we want to do is to preserve the legacy of Bishop Oyedepo. He is a man that cut across generations. Many things would not have happened within the body of Christ if not because of him”.

    “We want to celebrate him because he has touched many lives, and we say that the legacy of Oyedepo lives on.”

    The chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Lagos Chapter, Pastor Yemi David, while speaking with journalists said the programme was aimed at honouring Oyedepo and giving to the needy.

    “This is a collective effort of pastors in Lagos, Pastor Akinpelu was able to galvanise all of us together and it is a laudable effort, and the reason is to honour Bishop Oyedepo.

    “My job is to have a church where beyond Sunday services they do other things like education like having schools and universities.

    “So, this is an encouragement for our younger generation to do beyond the church, and impact society.

    “Now that Oyedepo is 70 we decided to honour him and use that to be a blessing to those in need.

    Earlier, Oyedepo while addressing everyone was delighted to be celebrated and prayed for the organisers and the guests at the gathering.

    “It is not enough to have Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, but He must be the overall of your life.

    “I have never prayed for a car or house. But I know what I will do that He will add all other things onto me. The Bible says to seek first the kingdom and all the things that others are dying to get shall be added unto you,” he said.

    Notable ministers who graced the occasion were Tope Alabi, Pastor Femi Lazarus, Pastor Sola Osunmakinde, Bidemi Olaoba, and other men of God.

    In a congratulatory message through his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, to mark today’s celebration of the cleric’s 70th birthday, Governor Abiodun said Oyedepo has become a colossus in Christendom as an evangelist and soul winner with millions of followers all over the world.

    Oyedepo, who is also the presiding Bishop of the Faith Tabernacle, was born in Osogbo, the Osun State, on September 27, 1954.

    Abiodun lauded the unwavering commitment of the bishop to humanity through his involvement in education and philanthropy, describing him as a man of many parts.

    “Bishop Oyedepo’s impact transcends religious boundaries. He has been a beacon of hope and inspiration to millions around the world. His visionary leadership in the Faith Tabernacle and the Living Faith Church has transformed countless lives, instilling values of diligence, perseverance, and faith in God.

    “Through his teachings, he has fostered a spirit of empowerment and resilience, encouraging individuals to aspire to greatness.

    Oyedepo charges students ondiligence, discipline, accountability

    The Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo, has advised the matriculating students of the Covenant university, Ota, Ogun State to be diligent, disciplined, and take responsibility for their future.

    Oyedepo said this yesterday at the 22nd Matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session undergraduate students/postgraduate students degree programme in Ota, Ogun State.

    Out of the 2,351 students, 2,153 were undergraduates and 198 postgraduates matriculated for the 2023/2024 session.

    According to him, the pain of discipline might be costly, but the end result is priceless.

    Oyedepo noted that everyone is absolutely responsible for the outcome of his or her life.

    The Chancellor enjoined them to make the most of their time as the days are evil, adding that they should not hang around people who don’t share their sense of mission.

    Earlier, in his Welcome address,  Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo said that the university’s unique vision was to raise a new generation of leaders in all fields of human endeavour who would redeem the battered image of the black man.

    Adebayo said, “God had continued to validate the vision with many infallible proofs as we are the most preferred university for candidates seeking quality and life-applicable higher education in Africa.”

    The Vice-Chancellor further stated that their graduates were the most employable among all Nigerian universities even as they continue to receive laurels and commendations for excellent performance at postgraduate studies abroad.

    Pro-Chancellor of Covenant University, Bishop David Abioye, implored the students to be focused as they begin the journey of academics in the future.

    Abioye said the purpose of Covenant University goes beyond its certificate to students at graduation, noting that academic programmes in the institution are cladded in customized life-changing core values that aim at training each student to be self-efficient and self-sufficient upon graduation.

    The son of Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Isaac Oyedepo, has broken his silence on purported departure from his father’s church to form his own ministry.

    Isaac, in a statement, said he is still a member of Living Faith Church Worldwide and that the relationship between him, family and father was still very intact.

    He urged members of the public to treat information not from him and his social media handles with caution.

    Isaac said: “I must state that there is no complication in my relationship with my beloved family and my beloved dad (Bishop David Oyedepo) who has stood by me and supported me over the years nor are there any in my commitment to my church-turned-home, Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel International.

    “I remain a steadfast member of the Living Faith Church dedicated to the service of the body of Christ.

    Oyedepo urges varsities to engage in gainful researches

    Covenant University’s Chancellor and Chairman, Board of regents, Dr. David Oyedepo, has said that gainful researches are the solution to the society’s problems.

    He urged universities to embark on more research to solve the country’s problem and bring about good healthcare delivery, food sufficiency, advanced agricultural practices and shelter for all.

    He added that sound education is the sure foundation for every great nation.

    The chancellor urged the university’s 2023 graduands to continue embracing the training gathered from the university to enhance their capacity for exploits in life.

    “Every problem, I have discovered, has a solution. But without a problem-solver, such a problem becomes insurmountable.

    “As long as we remain regimented, we will continue to be relegated. Those who will not take response today will end up as liability tomorrow. Destiny is a non-transferable responsibility. One either faces it or phased out.

    “As a university, we have remained committed to our unique mode of training and the pursuit of our departure philosophy, which we refer to as our founding philosophy,” he said.

    The Pro-Chancellor and Vice Chairman, Board of Regents of the institution, Bishop David Abioye, advised the graduands to take into cognisance the admonition of Solomon, citing Ecclesiastes 9:10.

    The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun H. Adebayo, noted that 1,175 graduands were conferred with Bachelor degrees and 204 higher degrees in various disciplines.

    In the Bachelor’s degree category, 283 (24.09%) of the graduands made first class and 656 (55.83%) bagged second class (upper division). Also, 214(18.21%) of the graduands are in the second class (lower division) and 22 (1.87 %) in the third class category.

     Prof. Adebayo said: “It is evident that the Class of 2023 have been equipped to soar higher and conquer unimaginable feats. Please don’t despair even when the journey gets tough and stormy, but remember that an eagle earns its honour from the storm it endures.”

    A graduand of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University, Nelson Elijah Ifechukwu, emerged best student with CGPA of 4.98.

    Oyedepo to varsities: develop indigenous solutions to address Africa’s problems

    Chancellor of Covenant University (CU), Ota, Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo has urged universities to develop indigenous solutions and new learning modules to address the problems facing Africa.

    He said lack of capacity to utilise Africa’s natural endowment is responsible for the continent’s pitiable condition.

         The founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide noted that the continent is lagging behind in development not because of colour, but because she is “blind”.

    Oyedepo spoke at the opening of the two-day QS Africa Forum  with the theme: “Education Africa 2030 and beyond — sustainability and social impact in an African context.” It was hosted by Covenant University.

    He said for Africa to move forward, new learning modules, finding indigenous solutions and being proactive were imperative.

     Oyedepo noted that the university produces the highest number of employable graduates in Nigeria. He said its core mandate is to see Africa reclaim its lost glory, adding that it is an Afrocentric institution with a passion for the continent.      

       “Africa is not where she is because she is black, but because she is blind. We should take steps to solve problems; we should not wait to see problems solved. Lack of capacity to utilise natural endowment is responsible for Africa’s pitiable condition. There is lack of adequate engagement. We are mostly interested in positions. A developed people are what results in a developed nation. New learning modules to bring about a new Africa should be developed. Finding indigenous solutions to our problems is the way forward. Our forefathers solved their problems without the school system,” he said.

         Executive Director, QS Africa and Middle East and South Asia, Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, said education is pivotal to driving sustainable growth and social change.

    He said sustainability is imperative in education to bridge the gap in unemployment in Africa. He urged authorities to ensure accessibility to education.

    QS Forum Chairperson, Veronica Omeni, said the conference is a call to action to develop education that meets the needs of Africa for impact and sustainable development.

    She said education should be hands-on experience, adding that it should be beyond the boundary of textbooks, but drive social impact.

    She also stressed the need to embrace technology in education to ensure that the remotest of locations in Africa have unrestricted access.

    Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Prof.  Abiodun Humphrey Adebayo, urged the government to be intentional in prioritising education, adding that there was a need to develop critical infrastructure in tertiary institutions. He urged government to invest heavily in research and teaching personnel for Nigerian universities’ rating to improve.

         Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics), National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr.  Noel Biodun Saliu said the best universities in Africa do not have all the solutions to the continent’s problem; hence, networking and cooperation are essential.
