  • Adeboye, Oyedepo, Olukoya: Nigeria’ll come out stronger from challenges

NIGERIANS should look into the New Year with hope. The year, prominent church leaders said in their predictions, will be good for the country.

According to them, the nation will come out from the general elections unscathed and stronger, despite the challenges and fears being entertained.

The clerics – Bishop David Oyedepo, pastors Enoch Adeboye and Daniel Okukoya – spoke on Monday night during the cross-over services in their respective churches.

Dr. Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (aka Winners Chapel) Ota, declared that nothing will tamper with the peace of Nigeria in 2019.

He stressed that Nigeria shall see no more bloodshed or war in the New Year.

He said: “The prince of peace will continue to dominate in Nigeria and Africa. We shall not see setbacks anymore. Because of the saints of God in this country, Nigeria shall remain safe. The year 2019 shall be a year of humbling testimonies.”

At the cross-over service at the Prayer City on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Dr. Olukoya, who is the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), described 2019 as “a strange year characterised by strangeness.”

Describing 2019 as a year of “supernatural ease and double honour,” Olukoya declared that forces working against Nigeria shall be buried.

Leading a prayer session against forces of darkness in the land, Olukoya said: “Any power planning war in Nigeria, die now. Glory of Nigeria, do not slumber, arise and shine.

“Angelic carpenters, arise in your fury, break the horns of the wicked assigned to destroy Nigeria.

“Every utterance and pronouncement against Nigeria, scatter. Let the coven of terror become desolate and let no dwell in them.”

Pastor Adeboye, who is the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), gave his prophecies in “coded language.”

Speaking at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 48, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Pastor Adeboye explained that he decided to give “coded” prophecies to forestall the possibility of politicians twisting his words.

He said that being an election year, whatever he said could be twisted by politicians to sway the unsuspecting members of the public.

According to him, “as the year was running to an end, as usual, I sought the face of the Lord for what the New Year was going to look like.

“But then, we have a little problem. The little problem is that in Nigeria, this is the election year, anything I say will be twisted by who? By the politicians.

“So, Lord I want to know what the New Year is going to be like and yet I am afraid that if you tell me, and I tell them, it will be twisted.”

As usual the “coded” messages were categorised into prophecies for the nation, individuals, the RCCG and international.

Adeboye quoted a passage in Lamentation to the effect that Nigeria won’t be consumed because of the Lord’s mercies.

  • 2019 will be peaceful, says Oyedepo

The Presiding Bishop, Living Faith Church Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, yesterday predicted that nothing would disturb the peace of Nigeria with its story ready to change for the better next year.

Oyedepo made the declaration at the annual prophetic gathering of the Winners’ family tagged Shiloh.

“Nothing will tamper with the peace of Nigeria; the story will change for the better in the name of Jesus,” Oyedepo was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as telling the congregation.

He added: “Nigeria shall not see bloodshed, the Prince of Peace will continue to dominate in Nigeria, in Africa and Nigeria is declared blessed.

“Anywhere you step, accident is forbidden; death will not come near you and our nation.

“Anything that is of grace in my life, I freely release upon you today.

“God has opened the year 2019 to us, celebrate Him because it’s our year of ‘I have Dominion.”

The Bishop added that the year 2019 would be a year of humbling testimonies for Nigeria and pace-setting testimonies.

He further declared that 2019 would be a colourful year for the nation.

Oyedepo said that there would be no more cause of alarm in any area of the nation and its citizens.

He advised Christians in Nigeria to delight themselves in the spirit of servant-hood, adding that the spirit of Christ is the spirit of servant-hood.

“The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of servant-hood. As you keep rising on the ladder of leadership, you must retain our spirit of servant-hood, constantly working to add value to others and be kingdom minded,” he said.

According to him, dedication is at the root of dominion, saying: “Sow yourself as a seed by being totally dedicated to God and His Kingdom’’.

He told the congregation that sacrificial giving guarantees the meeting of all their needs.

“When you engage in taking care of the well-being of others, God is also committed to your well-being,” he explained.

The cleric admonished Christians would engage in meeting the needs of the needy, every barrier on their path of destiny would be crushed.

“Nobody tampers with your life, your career, your family and goes away with it because you are promoted to God’s kingdom.

“God will stand for your defence in the day of trouble. Every sacrificial giver has a defence around him in the day of trouble always have that in mind,” he said.

  • Oyedepo warns politicians against killings

Founder and President of the Living Faith Church Worldwide Bishop David Oyedepo has again warned Nigerians and politicians over the unending killings of innocent citizens.

Bishop Oyedepo gave this warning in a satellite telecast of the church’s prayer session for the nation yesterday in Abuja.

The cleric, who urged politicians to repent and have value for the lives of citizens, said if they did not repent after his warning, they would fall down for the nation’s sake.

Bishop Oyedepo said: “Politicians be warned, whether in power or not in power. There is no day Nigeria will become an Islamic nation and this nation will remain one nation.

“Allow the Christians to go to church, allow  the Muslims go to their mosque and let the traditional worshippers do their thing.

“God is giving Nigeria peace by all means; the peace of those promoting this wickedness, God is taking away, if they refuse to repent. Their supplies shall dry up because Nigeria shall not see war.”

The cleric said every leader is just a caretaker and God remains the creator and owner of every nation, including Nigeria.

He added that Nigeria would have peace when they understand that God is in control of everything, including the land.

“When a caretaker starts behaving like a landlord, he will be removed. God is the permanent landlord of the earth.

“The God of heaven has given you authority and power. He has given you might and glory. Pride makes us think that we do not need God. Pride separates us from God. Nebuchadnezzar did not give credit to God, and God had enough.

“God had warned Nebuchadnezzar and had been very patient with him. But finally, the prophecy came true. All of the things that he was so proud of were taken away.

“Nebuchadnezzar had to eat grass just like the goats and cows! He was used to living in a grand palace, but now he had no shelter over his head; For 7 years, the great King Nebuchadnezzar lived out there in the wilderness like an animal.

“He lost his mind; he became crazy without God, he was helpless because he refused to listen to the warning from the Lord,” he said.

According to Bishop, God’s dominion is everlasting to everlasting and His kingdom is from generation to generation.

“Politicians are not extraordinary people, they only have grace, if they don’t harken to this warning of the Lord they will suffer disgrace.

“Too many arrogant foes, who pose to own this nation, be warned because the day of God’s judgement is here.

“God enthrones kings and removes kings,” he added.

Oyedepo cursed the killers of the first class chief in Kaduna State, the Agom Adara, Maiwada Galadima, who was kidnapped and later found dead.

He described those behind the cruel act as enemies of humanity and the Almighty God.

The church had embarked on seven days prayer and fasting for the nation, which ended yesterday.

  • Oyedepo to parents: don’t shirk your duties

CHANCELLOR, Covenant University (CU), Ota in Ogun State Dr. David Oyedepo has urged parents not to shirk their responsibilities following prevalent of immortality making children vulnerable globally.

Oyedepo noted that most children, particularly the adolescents, are “indisposed to instructions” and putting their parents under intense pressure to enjoy their independent.

The cleric said parents must stand their ground and ensure that their wards were mature enough and inculcated  with the right virtues and discipline before being let go.

Oyedepo spoke at the weekend at the institution’s 17th matriculation.

The event saw 1,694 new students, comprising 1,525 undergraduate and 169 postgraduate students take oath of matriculation.

He said his designation as CU Chancellor opened his eyes to the fact that most of the problems confronting the youths and country at large were traceable to poor parenting and their lack of attention for their children.

“Train up a child in the way he or she should go so that when the child grows up, he would not depart from it.

“Appropriate training of children will discover treasure built in them while an inappropriate training would turn them to thrash and liabilities in the future.

“Many great men we are seeing today are products of appropriate training that their parents had inculcated in them.

“Your children can also be like them, (but) a lot depends on how you handle them now,” the cleric said.

He hailed parents for believing in the ideals of CU, urging them not to relent in their investment so they can reap bountifully in future.

Oyedepo advised both parents and the new students to embrace the seven core values of CU so the latter could be the best in line with the institution’s vision.

The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Atayero, said the products of the university were making their alma mater proud all around the world.

Atayero described CU graduates as “one of the most employable in the country”, owing to the entrepreneurial skills they acquired as undergraduates.

Atayero noted that the CU was recently ranked the best university in Nigeria and the best in West Africa by Times Higher Education (THE).

  • Oyedepo: I’m after a peaceful country

The spirit of faith is a daring spirit. You can see what is happening in this country today, it takes men and women of the spirit of faith to stop the devil. Wickedness won’t give up without vengeance; you can’t be killing people and pretended that you don’t know. “Nobody is qualified to lead by morality without a feeling for people’s lives.

The day of killer agents has come to an end. This year will not end before everyone involved in the killings of the innocent will be paying for it in hard currencies. “Anybody who has pity on killers is a killer. God is angry with the wicked every day. The recent holocaust in Plateau State is an assault on the moral standing of a nation.

They don’t even care anymore and people are jumping up; I have never seen such madness before. “If you must kill to rule, you won’t rule. Anybody who must kill to access power, God will deal with them, either local or state government. “Don’t mind any devil; I have never taken a dime from any candidate in my life. We have never given bribe to anybody in this ministry.” He noted further that: “I have been very close to the corridors of power, but I have never collected a dime from any of them. “Anybody who partners with killers, whatever happen to killers will happen to them.

I have never seen the destruction of this order in my life. “I know how many times I have cried because of these senseless killings going on in this country. They sent me some videos, I can’t watch it. The callousness is terrible. There is no other way to prove it that those in charge are deliberate in making it happen. You don’t have to go to school to know that. A family of nine wiped off, for what offence? “People came out and say they did the killings and they were not arrested, what a shame! They claimed responsibility for a killing and they are on the streets.

Those who killed the Deeper Life woman in Abuja have been set free. Let us come down to reasoning. I will let you know how many churches have been razed down from 2015 till date next week Sunday. “The degree of callousness is unbelievable; we are virtually back to the Stone Age. Their sympathisers will go for it.

There will be no war in Nigeria, but those who want it will go for it.” Oyedepo, who was one of the clergies present in Abeokuta, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar, his ex-deputy, who is also the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reconciled their political differences, said that he was invited to mediate between both leaders and nothing more. His words: “Never be left in any doubt, I have never belonged to any political party and I will never belong to any. “There is no political party where members of Winners are not. Our goal is to secure the future of Nigeria.

We must talk about this and we have to appeal to people’s reasoning. We don’t want to see a war in Nigeria. “I am called a peacemaker and I have done that at all levels in this country. I am anointed to be a mediator because the price of peace is cheaper than the cost of war. That is my involvement. I am invited and I don’t go anywhere I’m not called. You need me to come, people in every party including the party in power, have been involved in such, it’s not theory.”

  • Kukah, Oyedepo explain mission to Obasanjo

Two notable clerics, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah and Bishop David Oyedepo, have been explaining their mission to the Hilltop mansion of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, last Thursday. The visit, they say, should not be viewed as politically-inclined, but one made to broker peace between the former President and his erstwhile deputy Atiku Abubakar.

To many, the mission of notable clerics – Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Mathew Hassan Kukah and the Presiding Pastor of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) David Oyedepo – to  the Hilltop mansion of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was to endorse Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. But, the clerics say their mission was to reconcile the former President with his erstwhile deputy.

    They spoke through different media.

Kukah, who explained the resistance he put up to decline being dragged into what he called a forest of politics, stated his position in a statement.

The fiery cleric said that he could not have endorsed any particular candidate since he has his friends spread across the political parties.

He, however, admitted that the criticisms that trailed the group photographs, showing him with Obasanjo, Atiku, Oyedepo and Sheikh Gumi among others, were expected, especially at a time that the former vice president had just clinched the presidential ticket of his party.

In his own defence during the Sunday service in Ota, Bishop Oyedepo said he has no membership card of any political party.

Oyedepo said he is after a peaceful country.

The presence of the duo on a day Obasanjo said he had forgiven Atiku and rated him above President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to draw flaks from different quarters.

    Their positions are presented below:

I wasn’t in Abeokuta to endorse Atiku, says Kukah

“I have deliberately made this explanatory note long because I think it is necessary that people make up their minds based on the facts, given my central role in the event.

“I note that Sheikh Gumi has already told his own side of the story. I feel obliged to state my own side so that Nigerians can have a clearer picture of my own involvement.

“Sadly, I personally did not read President Obasanjo’s statement until two days later on the Internet since I was not physically in the hall.

“Although trying to reconcile President Obasanjo and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was something I had been working on intermittently in the last few years, nothing could have prepared me for the way things finally shaped up. My focus all along had been with President Obasanjo and I had never brought Alhaji Abubakar into what I was doing. Quite fortuitously, a chance meeting changed the tide in favour of reconciliation.

“Understandably, the pictures of the four of us (President Obasanjo, Alhaji Abubakar, Shaikh Gumi and I) literally lit up the social media and elicited divergent reactions from the general public.

“Although over 99 per cent of the reactions that have come to me have been largely those of commendation, with people focusing, rightly, on the reconciliation, there have been others whose focus has been on an isolated development that had absolutely nothing to do with what I had in mind all these years, namely, the endorsement.

“I must say that I am eternally grateful to God that this reconciliation finally happened. The focus of attention has been on the endorsement of Alhaji Abubakar by President Obasanjo, a development that I can call the third leg of the process which I initiated. I am not sure of President Obasanjo’s other interlocutors after we agreed to meet leading to the participation of other actors and so, I will only clear the air on what I can take full responsibility for.”

Giving insights into how he was contacted by Obasanjo and how he resisted being dragged into what he described as a “forest of politics.”

He added: “Let me state first that I am a priest of the Catholic Church and by the grace of God, a Bishop. I have more than a passing knowledge of our discipline and doctrine in matters relating to the role of a Catholic priest in political engagement.

“My doctoral thesis was on “Religion and Politics in Nigeria”. So, this is an area that I have written and spoken extensively about for over thirty years. I am therefore very clear about the boundaries, the slippery slopes and the contexts. Unlike Sheikh Gumi and Rev. Oyedepo who were invited to this event, I am a central actor. So let me explain what really happened.

“On Tuesday, October 9th, 2018, I had the honour of being the Guest Speaker for the annual conference of the Four Square Gospel Church in Alagomeji, Lagos. (The Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, a member of this Church had first invited me some years back, but I could not honour the invitation). President Obasanjo was the chairman of the occasion.

“At the end of the lecture, he indicated that he would have to leave because he had a scheduled meeting. I told him I needed to see him briefly and he obliged. I brought up again the issue of what he thought of his reconciliation with Atiku.

“My last discussion with him this year was either in January or February. His response was still negative and he told me what he later told the media. I reminded him that I was not interested in the politics of reconciliation but the spiritual angle.

“After all, I said to him, ‘as a Christian, this is an important thing for you to do’. He was quiet and then said he would speak with me later that evening on his final decision. We parted, he went to his car and I returned to the Church to end the event.

“At about 9pm the same Tuesday, he called to say that he had thought over the issues I had raised and finally decided to accept my suggestion and that yes, he would be happy to reconcile with Atiku. When did he think we could meet then, I asked him? He said he would look at his diary and get back to me later.

“Then, just before 11pm the same Tuesday, I received another call from him saying his diary was full, that the earliest date for him was October 21. I accepted happily and told him that I would try and reach Alhaji Atiku either directly, or through his aides to convey the news.

“My initial intention had been to return to Abuja that same evening from Lagos, but my hosts at the Four Square Gospel had suggested that I should get some rest. Next morning, Wednesday October 10, after I had finished celebrating the Holy Mass, I received a call from President Obasanjo: ‘Bishop, listen, I have changed my mind’. My heart nearly sank, but before I could ask why, he said: ‘Let us do it tomorrow if you can reach Atiku. I am going to deliver a lecture in Ife and will be back home before 1pm. “So, tell him to come at 1pm’. I started frantic efforts to reach Alhaji Atiku without luck. I reached one of his aides, Paul Ibe, and asked him to please let him know I am trying to reach him. Finally, at about 1pm, I received a call from him. I told him what had happened with President Obasanjo. He agreed and said he would be in Abeokuta for 1pm on Thursday.

“I got back to my hosts, the Four Square Gospel Church to tell them about the change in my travelling plans, especially as I had no car to take me to Abeokuta.

“I didn’t want to ask President Obasanjo’s people to send me a vehicle because I believed I needed a leeway of independence and trust. My hosts were exceedingly gracious in making a vehicle available, a driver and an aide to take me to Abeokuta.

    Getting nervous

“Earlier that morning, President Obasanjo had called me a second time and told me that he wanted Alhaji Atiku to come with the Chairman of the PDP, and two or three others. He also told me he had also invited both Sheikh Gumi and Bishop Oyedepo. This was welcome news – Bishop Oyedepo is a kinsman of his, and the presence of Sheikh Gumi made sense. I was a bit nervous, seeing that the circle was getting larger for something I thought was between three of us.

“I arrived at Abeokuta about 12.15pm ahead of both President Obasanjo and Alhaji and his team. Alhaji Atiku and his team arrived, and then I saw more and more people coming in. “I saw familiar faces of different people who turned out to be the leaders of Afenifere. All these years, whenever I brought up this matter of reconciliation, my idea has always been for the three of us to sit down together. I still believed that the meeting would be between the two of them and the three religious leaders.

“When President Obasanjo appeared, I walked up to him and said I wanted to know the protocol for the meeting. He suggested that we would meet in a hall and that I should say a few words about how we got here.

“I declined because it seemed again that at this point, we were in small forest of politics and I had no wish to be caught in it. I was happy that what I wanted to achieve had been achieved, namely, getting these two men to put the past behind them.

“My personal preoccupation was a pastoral one, and not a political one. I was uncomfortable with this and I decided to make my position clear. I offered a different proposal to help us sift the moral grain from the chaff of politics via a three-step process so as to insulate the three of us from the political fallout.

“I proposed that the first step would be for he and Alhaji Atiku to sit down behind closed doors, sort out their issues and then the next step would be for both Sheikh Gumi and I to go in and listen to the two of them as Bishop Oyedepo had not arrived.

“After that, I said, they could continue with the third phase which from what I could see, was high wire politics and I had no wish to be caught in the web. After they both finished their brief meeting, Sheikh Gumi and I went in and sat down with the two of them.

“We had some small briefing and then both of us spoke briefly on what they had done, encouraging them to ensure that this reconciliation holds. I even said jokingly that I am a Catholic priest and our marriage vows are indissoluble! After that, we prayed and then took what has now become the famous photograph behind closed doors.

“At this point, I felt that my spiritual duties had been achieved and I was prepared to maintain my independence. Sheikh Gumi and I shook hands and although I was hungry and food was being laid out, I skipped lunch.

“I quietly let myself out by the side door, got into the Four Square Gospel Church car and we drove off to Lagos. Despite the dread of Lagos traffic and the disruption of flights at the Airport in Lagos, I had declined the offer of a seat in the Aircrafts which had flown them to Abeokuta.

“Although flying with them was the best (and most convenient) assurance I had of getting to Abuja in time for a speaking engagement at an event with the Sultan and Cardinal Onaiyekan for 9am the next day, it was necessary to ensure that I took no favours from any of the two parties.

“I was not in Abeokuta to endorse Alhaji Atiku, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I perfectly understand the feelings of many of my friends and members of the opposition who believe that I travelled with Alhaji Atiku and his team to attend his endorsement by President Obasanjo, but I reiterate that this was not the case.

“All the bills for my travel were settled by the Four Square Gospel Church hosts for the earlier dated programme who had bought my tickets, booked accommodation for me and took care to get me to the airport for my flight to Abuja and Sokoto.

“I am a strong believer in a peaceful and united Nigeria, ideals for which I have striven and served my entire adult life as a thinker and a priest. My instincts for reconciliation and peace were sharpened during my involvement and experience with the Oputa Panel. When the Generals refused to respond to the invitation of Oputa Panel, I personally undertook to visit both generals Babangida and Buhari (he was not at home) at a time that today’s latter day Buharists were asking the panel to compel them to come or risk being blacked out of national life.

“Objective-minded people will remember that back in 2001, when the Christian community and many of President Buhari’s opponents claimed that Gen Buhari had said that Muslims should vote only for Muslims, many people in the Christian community were disappointed that I wrote a long article to explain the context of what he had said after speaking with the Gen. “His party, the ANPP later used part of my article for their 2003 campaigns! My faith and experience have taught me to learn to suspend judgment till I have heard both sides of a story, no matter what.

“I hope that this clarification helps to allay the concerns of those who may have seen all of these in a different light. Many minds will remain set no matter the reasonableness of my comments here, and this is to be expected- one cannot please everyone. This is why it is often best to seek to please only one’s own conscience, and here, mine is very clear.

“I have been involved in a few behind-the-scene shuttle diplomacy for years, largely on my own initiative, taking advantage of my knowledge of those engaged in the conflict or at the invitation of third parties. Some have succeeded and some have not. As priest, it is not in my place to publicize what we have achieved.

“I am the Convener of the National Peace Committee (NPC). This alone is enough to place a moral boundary which I am bound to respect. The NPC able to accomplish much because of trust and that is not what I can treat lightly. When it became clear that both President Obasanjo and Atiku were on the verge of making peace, I alerted the Chairman of the NPC, Gen Abdusalami. Since I happen to be in Lagos, I drove to the Ikoyi home of Chief Emeka Anyaoku and alerted him. I spoke to my Metropolitan, the Archbishop of Kaduna, Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso. All in all, everyone believed this was a very good move if we could achieve it. None of us imagined the third phase of this meeting.

“Both theoretically and practically, I have come to know that peace making is a very risky business and often a thankless job. I recall listening to the late Kofi Anan speak about his on two different occasions. Anyone involved in peace making from domestic quarrels to larger battles, must be ready for the good, the bad and the ugly.

“In the end, we must wear the shoes of the long distance runner, believing and trusting that the truth never ever sinks to the bottom of the sea. The truth will always have a stubborn way of defying the hostile elements and popping up at the right time, no matter how long it takes.

“I perfectly understand that with Alhaji Atiku, having just picked up the presidential ticket of his party, without providing this context, definitely, I can appreciate why many people will have a lot of anxieties. They will definitely be right to question my neutrality.

However, I have far too many friends across party lines for me to openly endorse one candidate or party against the other. It will be against the principles of the Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church which regulates our public life in the political space.

The President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference has signed a statement to the effect that no altar of the Catholic Church must ever be open to any politician, something we have all taken seriously. I therefore hope that this clarification helps those whose minds are open.

“I am thankful to God and quite pleased that this reconciliation took place and that I was a small instrument in making it happen. However, I am sorry that it has been given a different colouration and doubts to many people. Its timing was purely fortuitous and purely circumstantial not a contrivance. Personally, I will never relent in the very urgent task of making peace and reconciliation across the spectrum of our country.”

  • Court restrains Oyedepo from parading as Kwara PDP chair

Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has restrained Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo from parading himself as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The court also restrained Abdulateef Alakawa Gidado; Alhaja Fatimoh Gegele Mogaji; Rasak Alabi; Mahmad Haliru Dantosho and Gabriel Olatunji from parading themselves as members of the State Executive Committee pending determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.

Factional Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi, and four others, who are aggrieved contestants in the November 13 congress, approached the court seeking to nullifify the election of Akogun and others.

Justice E.B Mohammed, who gave the order, also restrained any other person(s), either by themselves, servants, agents, staff or privies of Oyedepo and five of his executive, from acting as the state executive committee of the party.

He said: “Upon a motion exparte and supporting affidavit dated and filed July 16; upon a careful examination of 15-paragraph affidavit of urgency and 33-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion exparte for interim injunction respectively deposed to by Lateef Adebayo Oloyin, the third claimant herein.

“After listening to S. Imam learned counsel to the claimants/applicants and consideration of affidavit evidence in support and the written address of counsel, an order of interim injunction is hereby granted the claimants/applicants restraining the first defendant from reorganising, dealing and/or relating with the second to seventh defendants or any other person or either by themselves, servants, agents, staff and/or privies as the executive committee members of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pending the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction already filed in this suit…”

“This case is hereby adjourned till July 30 for hearing of the motion on notice.”

  • Oyedepo recommends innovative education for economic transformation

Chancellor, Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo, has called for the adoption of the innovative education system to tackle the nation’s socio-economic challenges.

Oyedepo, who is the Founder and General Overseer, Living Faith Church Worldwide, is upbeat that Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges are surmountable through stakeholders’ responsibility.

He made the call yesterday in his address at the fifth convocation of the Landmark University in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. He spoke on the theme: “Defining destiny by taking responsibility.”

Oyedepo, who doubles as the Chairman of the Landmark’s Board of Regents, expressed the need for students and youths to be groomed through the innovative education system so as to assume responsibility as future leaders in tackling the nation’s challenges.

He said: “Nothing defines destiny as the action of taking personal responsibility; it is not capacity that defines impact, but capacity utilisation.”

Oyedepo expressed optimism that Landmark’s graduands possessed the prerequisite entrepreneurial and life applicable education through its well-tailored curriculum and academic base.

“This has clearly set them out to be solution providers and in restoring the dignity of the black man in line with the university’s motto, ‘Breaking new Grounds’.

“By way of situating the relevance of university education, particularly in addressing the issues of the day, I have come to the conclusion that universities do not exist to teach and graduate students, but rather to serve as a preparatory ground for raising students to take responsibility.

“This, they do as they engage with the issues in the real life context upon graduation,” Oyedepo added.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adeniyi Olayanju, in his remarks, reiterated the institution’s efforts in advancing the frontiers of research activities in boosting the agricultural value chain.

This, he noted, would engender the much-needed food sufficiency in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

  • Nigeria needs true change, says Oyedepo

Nigeria needs true change, says Oyedepo

Covenant University(CU)  Chancellor Dr David Oyedepo has said Nigeria needs true change to develop.

He called for improved and aggressive funding of education.

Dr. Oyedepo added that insecurity and terrorism appeared to be driving the country back into the precipice.

The cleric spoke at the institution’s 12th inaugural lecture delivered yesterday by former Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Taiwo Abioye. The theme was: “The synergy between language, discourse and the media in the construction of realities.’’

Dr. Oyedepo said: “Nigeria needs a true change now. Events in the recent past show we are find behind from where we used to be

“You get to certain government cirlcles ; and you don’t understand them because they have turned their own language into official language so much that you simply start looking.

“People simply nod their heads when you are speaking but they don’t understand what you are saying. That shows we’re beginning to do exactly the opposite.

“Nigeria needs to know that the more enlightened the people; the more contributive they become; the more enlightened the people; the more solutions they provide and the more enlightened the people, the more the nation moves forward.

“Nothing empowers like knowledge. The less investment a nation makes into education; the more problem they create. The more enlightened a country is, the more advance it is.

“There is a misplaced priority on the part of our government. They will rather put N50 billion on local government election that is already pre-meditated than put 10 billion into education.

He implored the authorities to soften policies on education to allow institutions produce quality graduates that would advance Nigeria’s growth.”

Abioye emphasised the urgent need to bridge the education gap between the South and the North so as to stem blood-letting and other forms of uprisings.

Abioye described the North as acutely disadvantaged educationally; adding that the development has resulted into needless pockets of violence.

She said:“The present problem in the North, as far as education is concerned, is a gap between the North and the South and the Federal Government needs to take decisive steps in addressing the issue.

She continued: “The North is truly behind; but it is not only the North that is in trouble but the whole country. The problem in the North is the gap which it inherited from the British colonialists. And I have estimated that this gap in educational development between the North and the South is a 40-year gap.”

Killings: IBB, Oyedepo, Bakare demand action

Pentecostal giants David Oyedepo and Tunde Bakare yesterday called on the Federal Government to stem the killings in the country.

Former military President Ibrahim Babangida also demanded an end to the bloodshed.

President Muhammadu Buhari will today meet with leaders of thought in Benue State, who will be led by Governor Samuel Ortom, at the Aso Villa.

Benue has been grieving since January 1 when people were killed in an invasion by herdsmen.

Seventy-three bodies were given a mass burial last Thursday in Makurdi, the state capital.

The meeting is expected to tackle the menace and expected to also bring up the issue of states arming militia.

President Buhari met last night with Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara over security.

The presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned the Federal Government to halt the killing spree by herdsmen or risk the country’s disintegration.

He likened the attacks to a time bomb and warned politicians not to “sell off the destinies of men for your ambitions”.

Dr. Oyedepo said God revealed to him 26 years ago that this crisis would put the country “on a keg of gunpowder” if the government failed to act.

He gave the warning yesterday  in a message titled “A wakeup call to a nation in a state of slumber”.

He said: “Prophets have a duty to warn people, nations against impending danger.

“I have this wake-up call for a nation in a state of slumber. Insurgency is spreading across the country under the guise of Fulani herdsmen. Danger is looming.

“How many of these killers have been brought to book since their campaign of carnage, death and destruction began?”

Oyedepo warned that a nationwide crisis, “worse than anyone around knows”, might be imminent.

He said: “Where are the leaders of thought in Nigeria? Where is the government and this is continuing unabated? We are sitting on a keg of gun powder. There is a volatile reaction coming and God revealed this to me as far back as 1992, clearly written in my diary.”

But, prophesying that “Nigeria shall not be destroyed,” Oyedepo called on God to “trouble all that trouble the peace and progress of this nation”.

According to him, Nigeria’s destiny has never been under a worse threat of survival.

He said: “People may soon be forced to take the law into their hands. The security apparatus of the country has obviously failed to defend the property and lives of these poor farmers.

“While we are claiming to be curtailing Boko Haram, we are on the other hand aiding and abetting herdsmen and their murderous acts.

“Nigeria is a nation at war with ourselves.  No external aggression from aggressors, no ethnic crisis, no natural disaster, yet we are doing mass burial. What a nation in a state of slumber.

“Hear the voice of God through this prophet, the soul of Nigeria is near the point of death.”

Oyedepo warned that the attacks might push every community to set up its own security system to defend itself against “the insurgency”.

He said: “When citizens cannot trust the security system, a state of anarchy is in view. Insurrection may also be on the way. These largely unchecked activities of the Fulani herdsmen may eventually choke the soul of Nigeria to death, God forbid.”

The Bishop challenged the government to probe how the killers escape and how they are able to secure funds to buy AK47 rifles which, according to him, cost N3million apiece.

“They must have the backing of some powers that be. Any right thinking Nigerian will speculate same,” he said.

As the Bishop spoke, the congregation applaud. When he said there would be no war, there was a thunderous “amen”. Many stop up to pray as the congregation was directed to pray against “those troubling Nigeria”.
