    Bodija explosion: Oyo govt approves N4.5bn for victims, justifies cabinet reshuffle

    The Oyo state government has approved the sum of N4.5 billion as financial support to the survivors and victims of the Bodija explosion, which occurred on January 16.

    This decision was taken at the Executive Council meeting, which held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s office on Wednesday.

    According to the commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the approval is apart from the over N200 million that the State government had expended on accommodation, feeding, hospital and security bills following the tragic incident.

    He said the Council also approved the recommendation of the 10 man committee to revoke the Title of two properties off Adeyi avenue, scene of the explosion, in the overall interest of the public and that the Government should build a monument on the location of the revoked land in memory of victims of the tragedy.

    The council frowned at the spate of disinformation, half-truths and mischievous lies being peddled by persons purportedly representing the residents on the role which the state government has played in the Bodija explosion saga.

    “Council said such insinuations are unfair and mischievous, and the government will not be discouraged in taking its time to do what is just for its citizens”, Oyelade said.

    The Commissioner said some beneficiaries are engaged in family disputes, which require the painstaking intervention of the 10-man committee.

    He added that the government will also return to the owners, other properties adjoining ground zero to rebuild their homes at the advice of government paid structural engineers.

    According to the Commissioner, the state government will, through the Ministry of Justice, ensure effective prosecution of the suspects so far arraigned in Court, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects linked to the case but at large.

    “During the Executive session, the Governor advised the citizens to discountenance any rumour concerning the current cabinet reshuffle.

    “The governor said he took the decision to discourage Ministerial complacency and to assure the people that he plans to end the tenure of his administration in 2027 with the same zeal with which he started in 2019.

    “The governor said he does not plan to drop any member of his Cabinet except anyone who is found to be distracted.

    “He said the decision to reshuffle was made to inject fresh efficiency into the system going forward”, the Commissioner added.

    The Oyo Police Command, in partnership with Fimihan Adeoye Security Consult has organised a three-day seminar for Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders across the state.

    The training, with the theme: “Building capacity for effective Superintending” was to improve service delivery of Police personnel.

    Oyo Commissioner of Police Johnson Adenola said training for Police officers is very essential for everyday activities because if knowledge not updated, it becomes outdated. 

    He noted that the training will talk about use of firearms, basic Police duty, the interagency synergy, investigation processes, and investigation report writing among others.

    He, however, said Nigerians, particularly people in the state at the end of the training should expect professionalism and improved Police training. 

    “As you can see, the men receiving this training are not the men on the road. We have their commanders, the DPOs, the head of tactical teams.

    “But it is a sort of train-the-trainer. We expect that when they leave here, they will go and cascade that training to the men working under them. So essentially, it will ultimately get to the boys and the expectation is improved service delivery.”

    The Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with Fimihan Adeoye Security Consult, has organised a three-day seminar aimed at enhancing the capacity of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders across the state.

    The seminar, themed “Building Capacity for Effective Superintending,” was held at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, and focused on improving service delivery and operational effectiveness of police personnel.

    Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, emphasized the importance of continuous training, stating that knowledge must be regularly updated to remain relevant and effective.

    He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who has made training a core component of police reform and professional development.

    Oyo launches export-ready food products

    The Oyo state government has launched export-ready, value-added food products aimed at boosting agro-industrialization and expanding the state’s footprint in regional and continental trade. 

    Products unveiled by the Agricultural Exporting Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society, held at the Conference Room, Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Secretariat Agodi, Ibadan were processed yam, cassava and plantain flour packaged for export and local consumption.

    The government also inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Association of Nigeria Cooperative Exporters (ANCE) Limited as part of its ongoing Cooperative reforms.

    Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives (MTIIC), Adeniyi Adebisi, hinted that the Ministry will soon establish Directorate of Quality Control to ensure standardization of export products.

    Adebisi, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Mamud Okesade said the need to reform cooperative structures to meet present-day realities and investor expectations cannot be overemphasized.

    Adebisi urged the new board to embrace transparency and unity with a view to unlocking opportunities in the global export space.

    He assured the new board of continued government support in achieving their performance milestones.

    Representatives from key agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), and the Bank of Agriculture commended members of the association for the structure put in place and compliance to the regulations guiding their operations nationwide. 

    They pledged to support the association through funding, technical guidance, and trade facilitation Programme.

    The newly elected ANCE President, Chief Kola Olomoyoyo, promised to build on the achievements of his predecessor, under whom the cooperative stabilized its cocoa and palm kernel export base and diversified into livestock feed and bottled water production.

    The highlights of the events include the unveiling of a strategic plan to modernize operations, expand value chains, and attract local and foreign investment.

    Oyo, Osun blame NBC for Ibadan, Iwo boundary disputes

    Oyo and Osun State Governments have accused the National Boundary Commission (NBC) for what they described as the age-long boundary dispute between communities in Oyo and Osun States which has resulted in the loss of properties worth millions. 

    They called on the Commission to take urgent steps to resolve the lingering issue to prevent unnecessary tensions among the people of the two states while reaffirming their commitment to peace and unity as not just neighbors but brothers separated by state creation.

    They spoke during a high-level meeting to proffer lasting solution to the crisis rocking the communities. Ibadan.

    While Oyo Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal led state delegation, including leadership of the affected communities, Prince Kola Adewusi led the Osun State team to the meeting.

    The meeting blamed the Commission for not being specific on the exact boundary location between the communities in Ibadan and Iwo in Osun State.

    Representatives of the two states at the meeting emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties that bind their peoples, and also highlighted their mutual commitment to peace and cooperation.

    They warned divisive elements to desist from causing crisis as the full wrath of the law will fall on anyone found culpable of inciting violence or making inflammatory statements to escalate the situation.

    They maintained that there can be no alternative to peace on the lingering dispute. 

    The Nation reports the dispute gained public attention recently when the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, reported violent clashes between communities in Iwo and Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State. 

    The Oluwo had alleged that land grabbers from Lagelu have been attacking villages under Iwo including Ogburo, Ogunajo, Eleye and Molamu leading to arrest of suspects by security operatives. 

    The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, warnee those he described as forceful land grabbers to vacate the communities.

    The issue resulted in public altercation between foremost traditional rulers which made the Oyo State government urge all parties to be calm.

    However, as part of their fact finding mission on the true state of the border demarcation, the two Deputy Governors jointly led delegations of an on-the-spot inspection of Oba river, Ogburo and Tapa community, all under disputed border between Lagelu in Oyo and Osun west under Osun state. 

    Consequent upon their onsite inspection and engagements with traditional and community leaders of affected areas, the two states emphasised the brotherly relationship and the need for sustained peace in the pursuit of a lasting solution to the border demarcation crises.

    They stressed that the boundary conflict has persisted due to the NBC’s failure to finalise the demarcation process despite having memoranda from both states and their multiple interventions.

    Two dead, six injured in Oyo-Ogbomoso crash

    Two people died, and six also sustained various degrees of injuries in a lone road accident along the Oyo-Ogbomoso road.

    The Nation gathered the accident involved a commercial Nissan car which reportedly ran into rocks placed as barricades by a construction company near Ipeba area.

    The accident, which occurred around 7:00 am, claimed the driver and a female passenger whose identities have not been revealed.

    It was learnt that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from the Oolo Unit responded promptly to the emergency.

    The injured victims have been taken to Bowen University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

    The remains of the deceases were deposited at the morgue of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital.

    Oyo restates commitment to enforcement of rule of law

    Oyo state government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to enforcing the Rule of Law, adding that all residents, irrespective of tribe or affiliation, must comply with the established regulations.

    The Chairperson, Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Agency, (OYRLEA), Hon. Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd.), gave the assurance in Ibadan on Friday.

    She also said that the agency was mandated to enforce existing laws related to environmental protection, road traffic management, and the prohibition of open grazing and rearing in Oyo State.

    Justice Aderemi clarified that these laws are not new but have been in existence within the legal frameworks, stressing that the Authority has been tasked to enforce an orderly, safe, and clean state in line with Governor Makinde’s vision.

     She described the agency as the “new sheriff in town,” with the mission to crack down on violators of anti-open grazing laws, environmental regulations and traffic management laws, among others.

    Aderemi called on herders to vacate all farm settlements in the state, saying that the farm settlements are mainly for farming purposes, and it is illegal to graze cows, sheep, goats, and even chickens on any farm settlements in the state.

    She maintained that the state government, has the prerogative to appoint whosoever it wishes as Board members in any of her laws, adding that no individual or association has any right or entitlement regarding the constitution of the Board.

    The Chairperson said for every arrest and apprehension, the Mobile Courts and Tribunals are strategically positioned to prosecute offenders, emphasizing that counsels are available to defend or apply for bail as the case may be, otherwise, a jail term or option of fines awaits such offenders or lawbreakers.

    Oyo federal lawmaker empowers farmers with trailers of fertilszers

    The lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East federal constituency, Engr. Aderemi Oseni on Tuesday empowered farmers in his constituency with full loads of trailers containing 5,206 bags of fertilisers.

    He said distribution of the fertilisers was one of the major goals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for the success of his administration.

    Speaking in Ibadan while handling over the bags of fertilisers to farmers in his constituency, Oseni, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the empowerment programme was to increase productivity for farmers, ensuring plentiful harvest that not only enhances personal wealth but contributes to national food security.

    According to him: “Food security has been one of the major agenda of Mr. President, which will continue to echo to every one of us and we will continue to promote as much as we can.

    He noted the empowerment initiative aligned with President Tinubu renewed hope and economic rebirth agenda, an initiative promising to restore stability and purpose of the nation after recent challenges.

    Oyo moves to settle age-long boundary disputes in 12 councils

    The Oyo State Government has begun moves to settle a long standing boundary dispute involving 12 local government areas. 

    The peace meeting involving representatives from the 12 local governments was convened by the State Government at the Mediation Centre Ministry of Justice, Secretariat, Ibadan.

    The Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, who doubles as the Chairman of the Boundary Committee, urges stakeholders in the concerned LGA to desist from causing troubles in their respective communities, based on the judgment given regarding their various disputes.

    He explained that the interstate boundary dispute and inter boundary dispute needed to be solved amicably as every responsible government would always want to prevent violence, massacre and bloodshed.

    He noted that the establishment of the Boundary committee is constitutional, and it is legally binding.

    The Chairman said that the disputes between Ibadan South West and Oluyole local government areas, Akinyele and Afijio local government areas were adjourned respectively until next boundary meeting which will be communicated to all parties concerned.

    He hinted that the committee adopted judgments from the High Court and Appeal Court for the boundary dispute between Kajola and Iwajowa local government areas while Oyo East and Afijio local government areas were informed that they should expect a verdict regarding their cases.

    He maintained that the Committee still needs more legal documents and evidence from the two parties regarding the dispute between Saki West and Atisbo local government areas. 

    He said that the Chairman of Surulere local government was asked to provide more updates and do follow-ups to the intra-local government boundary conflict.

    The committee appealed to Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa East local governments, to allow peace to reign, urging the Surveyor General of the State to escalate the matter by defining administrative boundary (boundary between local governments) apart from town/village boundary.

    During his observation at the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said that peace is paramount to the administration, stressing 

    that a government that set a record of 40 installations of Obas and Baales will not want peaceful communities to be disturbed by boundaries strives.

    He assured all the concerned local governments that this present administration considers peaceful co-existence and dialogue as a solution to any dispute.

    Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, implored concerned parties to accept rulings and mediation tactics employed by the committee for their cases.

     He maintained that the committee based her judgement on the facts and documents provided by the parties.

    The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biodun Aikomo, assured the concerned local governments that the committee will conduct thorough investigations to establish a position aimed at delivering a fair and just resolution.

    The local governments concerned with disputed areas include: Ibadan South West and Oluyole local government areas; Oyo East and Afijio local government areas; Kajola and Iwajowa local government areas; Akinyele and Afijio local government areas; Saki west and Atisbo local government areas; Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa East local government areas; and Agbaa and Oko communities in Surulere local government areas.

    Adegoke begins consultations with Oyo PDP leaders for 2027

    The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solutions FM, Ibadan, Olooye Adegboyega Adegoke has met with some leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the residence of the Co-Chairman of PDP Elders’ Council, Chief Wole Oyelese at Ikolaba Area of Ibadan. 

    The meeting attracted Chairman of the Elders’ Council, who is a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Chief of Staff to Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Dr Saka Balogun from Ogbomoso, Chief Hamid Gbadamosi from Oke-Ogun, Chief Jacob Adetoro from Oke-Ogun, Prince Sunday Ogunlade from Oyo and Chief Nureni Akanbi among others.

    While the outcome of the meeting remains unknown as all the parties maintained sealed lips, political observers believe it is not unconnected with the ambition of Olooye Adegoke to contest the governorship in  of 2027.
