    • Sylva hails steady growth of entertainment industry

    A former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has applauded the emerging global status of the yearly Okpoama International Beach Carnival at the Brass Island, saying it has added to the steady growth of the country’s entertainment industry.

    Sylva particularly applauded the performances of Patoranking, Nyanya, Spiro and other emerging musical and comic artistes that stormed Bayelsa and thrilled guests, tourists and residents that attended the carnival.

    The former Minister of State for Petroleum described the event as beautiful sights and sounds from this year’s Okpoama International Beach Carnival.

    He said: “The best of our country’s musical talents performed and enjoyed the ambience of Brass Island,” he said.

    “Indigenous musical prospects were given the chance to perform alongside internationally recognised stars in a deliberate act of raising their stock.

    “Ultimately, the dream of making Okpoama a proper globally recognised tourism destination is in sight.”

    Okpoama International Beach Carnival has always paraded top musical and comic artistes yearly and attracted multitude of tourists from within and outside the state.

    In the time past, Timaya, Davido, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage were among the top artistes that identified with and thrilled visitors at the event.

    The event has always presented an indispensable opportunity for people outside the state to enjoy Bayelsa’s hospitality and savour local delicacies.

    The 2025 Okpoama International Beach Carnival, which MC Senibo coordinated as the Master of Ceremonies is usually organised by Sylva’s team and political associates, including Kojo Sam, to highlight the potential of Okpoama and Brass Island as a destination of choice for tourists.

    Patoranking becomes first UNDP regional goodwill ambassador for Africa

    Singer Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie popularly known as Patoranking has been appointed as the regional goodwill ambassador for Africa by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    This appointment, which is for an initial period of two years, recognises Patoranking’s commitment to empowering African youth and promoting innovation and enterprise development.

    As a regional Goodwill Ambassador, Patoranking will champion various initiatives aimed at building the innovation ecosystem in Africa, promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and supporting the Timbuktoo initiative.

    He will also use his platform to inspire and mobilise young people to take action on these important issues.

    Patoranking’s personal story of overcoming adversity and achieving success despite financial challenges makes him an inspiration to many.

    In the past, he has demonstrated his dedication to giving back by fostering entrepreneurial leaders and creating educational opportunities for underprivileged students.

    Reggae dancehall singer Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, popularly known as Patoranking, shared an inspiring story of his journey from poverty to stardom, urging youth to leverage their talents to uplift their communities and Africa as a whole.

    Speaking at the launch of the Timbuktoo Fintech Hub in Lagos, where he was unveiled as the UNDP Goodwill Africa Ambassador for Youth Innovation, Enterprise, and the SDGs, Patoranking recalled his humble beginnings in the Ebute Metta urban slum in Lagos.

    He spoke of hawking on the streets with his father to make ends meet, yet remaining focused on his goals despite the challenges.

    The Afrobeat artist, who has collaborated with musicians from Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and beyond, highlighted the importance of harnessing talents to drive positive change.

    He said: “I hawked on the streets of Lagos with my father. Many years ago, I used to sell on this street [Kings Way road]. It used to be a very hot spot for trading. Many years later, everything that I pictured I wanted to become, the man I wanted to become is who I am now. So when I was driving down to this place it was a little bit of a teary moment for me because I saw myself [on this road].

    “That is why I have songs with artists from Uganda, Kenya, Ghana and so on. I accept to be the UNDP Goodwill Africa Ambassador for Youth Innovation, Enterprise, and the SDGs. Today, I am not just an artist, I am a voice for many African youths who desire to make Africa work for themselves and their communities.”

    Patoranking opens football turf in Lagos

    Award-winning Afro-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patrick Okorie, aka Patoranking and his foundation , have built a modernized football turf for young and promising footballers in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

    The beautifully-constructed turf was officially opened on June 28.

    The singer and his football team, which included his friends, Zlatan Ibile, Poco Lee and Yhemo Lee, were present. The ‘Celebrate me’ crooner said he built the turf to unite his community because God has blessed him and his people.

     “Today marks a significant milestone for me, my team and my community as we open the Ebute Metta West football turf, Ojo Oniyun Sports Centre.

     “Special thanks to my colleagues. It’s been a year in the making Ebute Metta to the world.”

    Earlier, the Patoranking Foundation and ALX Africa unveiled a $500,000 Tech Scholarship Initiative to cover tuition for six-month training in advanced technological skills.

    In a strategic partnership with ALX Africa, a leading provider of tech training, the scholarship will provide 40 young tech-savvy Africans with access to a variety of transformative technology programmes in data analytics, cloud computing and sales force administration. The partnership is aimed at preparing the scholars to become the next pioneers in technology.

    Founded by Okorie aka Patoranking, Patoranking Foundation utilizes research, advocacy and partnerships to provide transformative educational programmes and market-ready entrepreneurial skills to outstanding young leaders in Africa.

    Singer Pastors king has given back to his community by building a mini-stadium in Ebute Metta, Lagos, where he grew up.

    He shared a video of the facility on Instagram, expressing his gratitude for his blessings and his desire to share them with his people.

    The stadium, named “World Best,” is a state-of-the-art facility with a playing surface, seating, and floodlights.

    Music stars Davido and Patoranking were among celebrities that turned up for businessman, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii’s 39th birthday shindig in his Lagos home.

    Also spotted at the birthday ceremony were football legend JJ Okocha, Super Eagles ex-captain Joseph Yobo, Chief Amah Orji (aka Ochiri global) and Cubana Chief Priest.

    While guests and their spouses enjoyed choice wines and spirits, Davido took time out from his musical performance in the US to party with Odii virtually.

    Few minutes before his Concert at MSG in New York, Davido put a video call through to Odii, an ex-governorship candidate for Ebonyi State, where he felicitated  him and requested that the phone be passed through the gathering to show that he was “live’’ at the event.

    Nigerian dancehall act, Patrick Okorie (Patoranking) has been unveiled as brand ambassador of Lontor products in Nigeria.

     Okorie signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Choice International Group (CIG), makers of Lontor.

    Chairman, Diana Chen, said Patoranking was chosen because he has huge fans. Chen, who hoped the partnership would birth a new dawn for the brand, assured consumers of affordable and durable rechargeable products to meet realities of the economy.

     She said restated the organisation’s resolve to support and invest in Nigeria’s creative industry.

    It is hard to believe MohBad is gone forever, says Patoranking

    Renowned reggae and dance-hall singer, Patoranking, has said that MohBad could have survived his trying times if people had paid more attention to his lyrics.

    Recall that, the death of Afrobeats star, MohBad, stirred many controversies and protests across the country with youths demanding justice for the singer as his death was believed to have been orchestrated.

    The death of Mohbad who was signed under the record label of popular singer, Naira Marley’s Marlian Music shook the music industry and its fans.

    Speaking about the singer’s death during a feature in Afrobeats Podcast, Patoranking said the late singer’s death could have been prevented if they paid attention to his lyrics.

    He added that Mohbad doesn’t deserve what happened to him, noting that it is important to seek justice for him.

    He said: “It’s so sad when you open your phone and you see Mohbad’s pictures and you come to the realization that he is not coming back again. It’s still hard to believe that he is gone.

    ”I sent him a DM in April just to commend his work and he replied me. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. Seeking Justice for him is very important and I stand by it.

    “It is very good to pay attention to lyrics. If we had paid attention to lyrics we would have seen signs from Mohbad.”
