Abduction of school children in Kaduna despicable, unacceptable – Peter Obi

Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has bemoaned continued security challenges in Nigeria, insisting  that Nigeria children must be allowed to learn in a secure and safe environment.

The Labour Party chieftain was reacting to the latest abduction of pupils and children in Kaduna State.

“We are again confronted with the ugly news of the abduction of over 200 pupils and students plus a teacher of local primary and junior secondary schools in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna state.

Obi said this in a statement by his Chief Spokesman, Dr Yunusa Tanko on Saturday in Abuja.

Obi said that it was unacceptable that Nigerian children would not be allowed to learn in a secure environment because of criminals.

He urged relevant authorities to leave no stones unturned and ensure that children would go  to school and learn in a conducive atmosphere

He added that citizens must also worship their creator and go about their businesses without hindrance.

He called for more concerted efforts to combat the menace of insecurity challenges in the country.

He queried the spate of security challenges in Kaduna state in spite of  having the highest number of military and other security institutions in the country.

He said efforts should be directed toward the safe release of the children, adding that better security measures needed to be implemented to avoid future occurrences.

He said that the negative impact of insecurity on education in the country would be more devastating.

He said Nigeria was already grappling with  out-of-school children, arising from the closure of schools due to insecurity.

According to him, further attacks on schools will only aggravate these numbers, drive more children into the streets, and add to the insecurity situation of the country.

He appealed to  government at all levels to explore all possible means to ensure the safe release of the abducted school children.

” I urge every Nigerian to continue to work and pray for the nation so that we can collectively conquer our challenges.

“We must ensure that every Nigerian child can pursue their dreams and aspirations in a safe and secure nation. This is our duty in the New Nigeria which is possible.” he said.

He said : “In 2011, I was to bury my mum and I had many senators I had friends and I wrote to all of them. Two weeks after the funeral, Peter Obi called me at 1 am in his little voice, o sim ‘nwanne I just got your letter, I know the burial is over, You know I would have come if I had seen the letter’.

“He sent me exactly the price of a cow. You know somebody would have thought he would give you two million for burial in 2011.

End inconsistency in Customs FX rates, Peter Obi urges FG

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has urged the federal government to stop the Nigeria Customs Service’s inconsistent FX duty charges.

Obi stated this in a series of tweets on his official X page on Wednesday, February 21.

According to the Labour Party’s leader, the national business climate is being negatively impacted by the inconsistent duty rates.

Obi said: “I wish to urgently call on the federal government of Nigeria to end the inconsistency in duty charges as it is affecting the general business atmosphere in the country.

“The federal government should stop the arbitrary and ever-increasing customs duties as it is now negatively impacting businesses and the cost of items, and this portends a huge danger to the economy.

“A situation where at the point of initiating importation, Form M and other documents related to importation are based on a particular rate of exchange, for example, N1000 to $1, being the prevailing exchange rate at the time which the importer of goods was used to calculate the entire process, from the import initiation to receipt of goods in his warehouse.

“Then suddenly when the goods arrive in Nigeria, and duties are calculated at different rates, say N1400 to $1, it becomes a serious business challenge that results in business losses.

“Worse still, it directly fuels the inflationary spike which is the basis of increasing cost of goods and living. Such arbitrary charges will obviously lead to further closure of businesses, and attendant job losses.

“This is because at the time of the initiation of the business, calculations, including duties, have been made based on the prevailing exchange rate, and the prevailing market prices.

“If this situation is not corrected, our importers may resort to using ports of nearby countries, a situation that will leave our ports under-productive, and further deepen our economy into a worse situation as a result of loss of revenue.”

The former Anambra state governor said businesses are dying, and manufacturers are shutting down because of the inconsistent economic policies of the government.

Obi stated: “All efforts of the government should be directed at supporting businesses, especially those in the manufacturing sector, to keep their businesses afloat and keep the economy growing, as the small business sector remains the most critical engine of economic growth.

“We cannot afford to target high customs revenues at the expense of the survival of local businesses, employment, and reasonable cost of living.”

The fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has disclosed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, expended N744,500,000 on litigation following his loss in the 2023 presidential election.

Obi and the LP, however, rejected the election results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He launched a legal battle and challenged the poll results up to the Supreme Court, which eventually on October 26, 2023 upheld Tinubu’s election.

The campaign organisation also received donations totalling N596m from party supporters, Obidient movements and well-meaning Nigerians across the globe.

Peter Obi is becoming everything to everyone, except what he was as candidate: A pilgrim. To the dying, he is a comforter. To the bereaved, he is a mourner. To the book launcher, he is a reader. He is also a party animal in birthdays, funeral after parties, etc. Recently, he became a football fan. As if to challenge President Tinubu to a fan duel for speaking to the Super Eagles before their flight over Angola, Obi materialised in Ivory Coast with his vintage supernova smile.

The failed philosopher, who has not uttered any philosophical idea other than recommend China as a cure-all, saw that the strategy did not work in the last polls, or that the so-called accusation that Tinubu would foist Islamic agenda on the country was a ruse of a campaign strategy. Old things have passed away. Obi is born again, not of the spirit. The man is trying to recalibrate his image. He is altering his ways by abandoning the altar.
