    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has raised the alarm over what it described as false information circulating on various social media platforms and unofficial websites, claiming that the Commission has opened a portal for recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

    In a statement, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, said: “The public is hereby alerted that these publications are fake and entirely misleading.

    “They are the handiwork of fraudsters seeking to deceive and exploit unsuspecting citizens.

    “The Police Service Commission wishes to state that no recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force is currently ongoing, and no such portal has been opened by the Commission.

    “When recruitment officially commences, it will be announced through official channels only. These include advertisements in reputable national newspapers, official announcements on the commission’s verified website (www.psc.gov.ng), and official press releases from the commission.

    “The public is strongly advised to disregard and ignore any such fake news and to only rely on information from the aforementioned official sources to avoid falling victim to scams.

    “Any purported recruitment portal not published on the Commission’s official website is fraudulent and should be reported to the police accordingly.”

    PSC set to decentralize police recruitment

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) is set to decentralise Police recruitment and allow recruitment desk officers from the states play key roles during the 2025 recruitment exercise.

    The development is following the successful meeting held in Abuja with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    According to the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani; “The Commission will also ensure that all the stakeholders, the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Character Commission will have access to the portal for inclusiveness and transparency. It will also help prevent corruption and nepotism in the system.

    “The Commission wishes to announce that the newly acquired recruitment portal which will serve for recruitment of both its staff and all categories of Police Officers is now ready and will be deployed during the period of such recruitments.

    “The Commission yesterday held for the first time, a consultative meeting with the primary beneficiaries of its recruitment exercise – officers in in charge of Recruitment from the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory where far reaching decisions were taken on how best to improve and consolidate efficient, transparent, accountable and equitable recruitment in the country.

    “To give effect to this development, the Commission will dedicate this new Portal to ensure a successful and inclusive recruitment for both the Commission personnel and that of the Nigeria Police.

    “The public is advised by this statement to note that going forward Police recruitments will be done using this Commission’s recruitment portal with state Officers playing significant roles. The portal is expected to be opened immediately when the Commission is ready to commence the 2025 recruitment exercise.

    “Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd mni said the Commission is happy to partner with the State Desk Officers who are the immediate beneficiaries of Police recruitment to ensure that the interests of all parties are protected.”

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Monday approved the promotion of 66 senior police officers to various ranks.

    This move aims to strengthen the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and recognise the outstanding performances of its officers.

    Twenty senior officers were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).

    A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani explained: “Those promoted include Fasuba Akinyele Olabode, CP Special Fraud Unit, Force Headquarters; Musibau Omolabi Ajani, CP Admin, FCID; Aliyu Abubakar Musa, CP Katsina State Command; Patrick Adedeji Atayero, former CP Explosive Ordnance Disposal EOD, Force Headquarters; Gyogon Augustine Grimah, CP Cross Rivers State Command; Olaiya Victor Mobolaji, CP Kwara State Command; Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere, CP Taraba State Command and Commandant Police College Oji River; Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, CP Fom, Force Headquarters; Olalolu Adebowale Adegbite, CP Interpol FCID; Godwin Iguh Eze, CP SEB, FCID Annex Lagos; and Disu Olatunji Rilwan, CP Federal Capital Territory.

    “Others promoted to the rank of CP are Obasi Mary Okereke, DCP Disaster Management Ops Force Headquarters; Moses Ashu Ottah, DCP Ops Eastern Ports, Port Harcourt; Felix Akoneme Nnebue, DCP ZCID Zone 16 Yenagoa; Gazali Alade Abdul-Salaam, DCP CID, Railway Command Lagos; Fidelis Ndubuisi Ogarabe, DCP Administration, Anambra state Command; and Olubode Ojajuni, DCP State CID, Ogun state Command.

    “The Commission also approved the promotion of 13 Superintendents of Police to the next rank of Chief Superintendents of Police and 14 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police”

    Ani said all the officers appeared before the Commission on Plenary and were subjected to examination and interactive interview.

    Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, presided over the exercise and was supported by DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police in the Commission, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of six Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and the promotion of the Commissioner of Police for the Enugu State Command, Uzuegbu Kanayo, to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGs).

    The new DIGs are: Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, the Commandant Police Academy at Wudil in Kano. He was Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); CP for Peace Keeping Operations and Coordinator of the Police Special Forces.

    Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG, Zone 16, Yenagoa (Bayelsa State), and presently AIG, Department of Information Communication Technology at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

    Williams Adebowale, the Commandant of Police Staff College in Jos, Plateau State.

    Others are: Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, AIG, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Annex in Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, AIG, Zone 14, Katsina, and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, AIG, Zone 16 Yenagoa, and former Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command. He was also a CP Border Patrol, Force Headquarters; CP Crime Prevention and Community Safety; Deputy Force Secretary and currently AIG in charge of NPF Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

    CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, the Commissioner of Police fr the Enugu State Command, promoted to the next rank of AIG, was an Assistant Commissioner Operations (ACP) for Zone 9, Umuahia; Area Commander, Owerri; Area Commander, Karu, Nasarawa State; Commander, Switch Operation Switch, Port Harcourt; Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Admin., Edo State Command; DCP, State CID, Osun State, and Commissioner of Police, Operations, Communication at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

    The PSC also approved the appointment of Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu states’ commands.

    CP Ademola Johnson, Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police was appointed CP Oyo State. He was also a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.

    CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa was appointed CP, Enugu State, to take over from newly promoted AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu.

    CP Giwa was the DCP Operations, Kaduna and Imo states’ commands; ACP Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters in Abuja; and CSP A, Commissioner of Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, among other postings in the Police Mobile Force.

    The commission also approved the promotion of eight Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the next rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

    They are: Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, and Margaret Okonkwo.

    Others are: Alhasan Aliyu Guga and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel.

    The newly promoted senior police officers were subjected to written examinations and interactive oral interviews.

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the commission’s Chairman Hashimu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), presided over the sessions with Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, and the Commissioner representing the Judiciary in the commission; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.) fdc, Honourable Commissioner representing the police, and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the commission in attendance. 

    DIG Argungu urged the new DIGs to give the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) the required support and cooperation to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force remains in a good position to secure the Nigerian space and ensure that law and order are maintained.

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) yesterday approved the promotion of Police Commissioners Garba Ahmed of Yobe State Command; Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo of Border Patrol and Salman Garba Dogo of Kwara State Command to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIG) of Police.

    Ahmed, who is from Katsina State, was formerly the Deputy Commissioner Operations in Enugu State Command and Oyo State.

    Iwo is a former police commissioner for CTU at the Force Headquarters, CP Force Intelligence, and CP Edo State Command.

    Dogo was police commissioner for General Intelligence at the Force CID, CP Armament, and CP Kano State.

    A statement in Abuja by PSC’s Head Media and Publicity, Ikechukwu Ani, said: “The 16 Deputy Commissioners promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police are: Audu Baba Umaru, who was promoted and retired. Others are: Cyriacus Enechukwu, Gombit Kopshella Bangs, Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, Rosemary Okpoho Akpan, Umar Hassan Kabir, and Usman Kanfani Jibrin.

    “Naziru Abdulmajid, Osadolor Olaye, Modi Jonthan Filiya, Sani Omolori, Hassan Gwani Saleh, Hammed Sule, Ayodele Rowland Adeyemi, and Justine  Obiora Oranwusi (the Director of Works at the Force Headquarters) were also promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police.

    “The promotions were the highpoints of an extraordinary meeting of the commission presided over by the commission’s Chairman Hashimu Argungu (a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), and attended by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retired Justice of the Supreme Court) and the honourable commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), honourable commissioner representing the police, and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani (Secretary to the Commission). 

    “The candidates for promotion were subjected to written examination and oral interview.  The commission’s chairman, DIG Argungu (retd.), …warned the officers to stay clear of civil matters, such as land, marital issues, debt collection, etc, and allow the courts to adjudicate on such matters.

    ‘PSC never directed IG’s retirement’

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said it is beyond its bounds to order the retirement of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.

    The commission said it had been inundated with calls, messages, and reports on the status of the IGP, following its decision that all police officers who have served for 35 years or attained the age of 60 should proceed on immediate retirement in line with the nation’s existing laws.

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by PSC’s spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani said the commission wished to state that it does not have “the constitutional powers to determine the appointment or exit of the Inspector-General of Police”.

    The statement explained the remit of its powers in the statement published in extenso hereunder: “The Police Service Commission is one of the Federal Executive bodies established under Section 153(m) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. By virtue of Paragraph 30, Part 1 of the Third Schedule to the Constitution and Clause 6 (1) of the Police Service Commission (Establishment) Act, 2001, the commission is charged with the responsibilities of appointment, promotion, dismissal and exercising disciplinary control over persons holding offices in the Nigeria Police Force (except the Inspector General of Police).

    “The law is clear on the mandate of the commission and it does not extend to the Inspector General of Police who is an appointee of Mr. President with the advice of the Police Council.

    “The commission, at its first extraordinary meeting of the sixth management board on Friday, January 31, 2025, only considered and took decision on the regularisation of the date of first appointment of Cadet ASPs/Inspector Force Entrants. This has nothing to do with the Inspector General of Police or his office.

    Germany to support PSC on reform

    The German Government has assured the Police Service Commission (PSC) that it will continue to get its support for the ongoing police reform.

    PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), announced this when he visited the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Annett Gunther, in Abuja.

    Argungu expressed the commission’s gratitude for the continued support of the German Government to the commission.

    The PSC chairman was accompanied by Justice Adamu Paul Galumje, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and the commissioner representing the Judiciary in the commission.

    The German Ambassador said the embassy’s engagements with the commission dated back to 2022.

    She recalled that the Government of Germany had supported the PSC in many areas, such as development of a strategic plan, police regulation and police recruitments.

    She said there was need for regular engagements, promising that the German Government was ready to support the Commission in other areas where necessary.

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said Argungu noted that from the records he met at the commission, the German Government had done a lot for the Nigeria Police and expressed profound gratitude to the government.

    The PSC chairman told his host that since assumption of duty, he had introduced radical policies to strengthen probity and accountability in the conduct of government business.

    He spoke of his introduction of the whistle-blowing policy in the commission and strengthening Public Procurement.

  • PSC sacks nine police officers for misconduct

    Nine senior police officers have been dismissed for what the Police Service Commission (PSC) called gross misconduct.

    The Commission, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said it also approved the reduction in rank of six officers for sundry offences.

    According to the statement, the decisions were part of the outcome of its fifth plenary meeting which held in Abuja on 26th and 27th of March. The meeting was chaired by the PSC Chairman, Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector-General (IG).

    Ani said the Commission also approved the punishment of severe reprimand for 10 officers while another, officer, Austin Agbonlahor, Commissioner of Police (CP), was exonerated.

    The Commission said one of the dismissed officers, Adamu Damji Abare, a Superintendent of Police (SP), will also be prosecuted while SP Abdul Yahaya Ahmed and another SP, whose promotion from SP to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) was withdrawn before his dismissal.

    According to the Commission,  Acting Inspector-General Mohammed Adamu has been asked provide it with information on the punishment awarded to other officers mentioned in the Police Investigation Reports involving SP Abare with regards to irregularities in the conduct of the 2011 recruitment exercise.

    The other dismissed officers are: Osondu Christian and Samson Ahmidu (both Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) as well as DSP Pius Timiala, who will be prosecuted and whose promotion from DSP to SP was withdrawn. The four Assiatnt Superintendent of Police (ASPs) dismissed for various wrong doings are: Agatha Usman, Esther Yahaya, Idris Shehu and Usman Hassan Dass.

    Those whose ranks have been reduced from SP to DSP are: Oluwatoyin Adesope and Mansir Bako.

    DSPs Gbenle Mathew, Tijani Saifullahi, Sadiq Idris and Alice Abbah have their ranks reduced to ASP.

    Ani said the commission’s decisions have been conveyed to Ag. IG Adamu in a letter by its Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission, Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri.

  • Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, others get new CPs

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment and deployment of 37 Command Commissioners of Police for the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

    Their appointment came following recommendation by the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu to the Commission.

    With the approval, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi and other states now have new Commissioners of Police while the Commissioners of Police in charge of FCT, Borno and few other states’ appointment were revalidated.

    With the approval, CP Mu’azu Zubairu will take over from CP Edgal Imohimi as the new Commissioner of Police Lagos State.

    Details of the approval and deployment is contained in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by the Commission’s Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani.

    The Commissioners of Police and the states they are deployed to are: “Buba Sanusi, Katsina State; Mohammed Wakili, Kano State; Rabiu Ladodo, Jigawa State; Ahmed Iliyasu, Ogun State; Mu’azu Zubairu, Lagos State; Ibrahim Sabo, Niger State; Alkassam Sanusi, Taraba State; Garba M. Mukaddas, Adamawa State;

    Others are Omololu Bishi, Benue State; Bola Longe, Nassarawa State; Isaac Akinmoyede, Plateau State; Odumosu Hakeem Edo State; Olushola David, Bayelsa State; Adeleke Yinka, Delta State; Austin Iwero Agbonlahor, Cross Rivers State; Bashir Makama, Akwa Ibom State; Awosola Awotunde, Ebonyi State; Belel Usman, Rivers State; Bello Makwashi, Gombe State and Abdulrahman Ahmed, Kaduna State.”

    Others are:  “Bala Ciroma, FCT; Egbetokun Kayode, Kwara State; Hakeem Busari, Kogi State; Asuquo Amba, Ekiti state; Galadanchi Dasuki, Imo State; Suleiman Balarabe, Enugu State; Dandaura Mustapha, Anambra State; Etim Ene Okon, Abia state; Ibrahim Kaoje, Sokoto state.

    Also appointed are: Celestine Okoye, Zamfara State; Garba Danjuma, Kebbi State; Abiodun Ige, Osun State; Undie Adie, Ondo State; Olukolu Shina, Oyo State; Ali Janga, Bauchi State; Damian Chukwu, Bornu State and Sumonu Abdulmalik, Yobe State.”

    According to the Commission, the CPs are expected to proceed immediately to their new Commands ahead of the 2019 general elections.

    The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith charged them to quickly settle at their new posts and ensure that the forth-coming general elections in their various Commands are peaceful, free, fair and transparent.

    He also stated that the country cannot afford any disruption of the elections anywhere as the world was looking up to Nigeria for a proof that its democracy has continued to mature.

    The Commission also said its approval has been conveyed to the acting Inspector General of Police for implementation.
