    Oyo boosts security with over 120 vehicles, gadgets

    Oyo Commissioner of Police Adebola Hamzat has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for setting a record in his bid to protect the citizens and residents of the State.

    He gave the commendation while playing host to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who was at the Eleyele Police Command, Ibadan on a fact-finding courtesy call.

    While speaking, Hamzat highlighted what he described as the invaluable support provided by Makinde in strengthening the security architecture in the State through the donation of over 120 vehicles, provision of modern day communication gadgets and personal motivation for the officers and men of the command.

    According to the Police boss, the modern day gadgets procured for the Policee by the governor has enabled him and other senior colleagues to monitor happenings in the state from any part of the federation.

    He agreed with Prince Oyelade that in all the eight states where he had served as commissioner before, none is as peaceful as Oyo State.

    He said community policing has been highly successful to combat crime in Oyo State because the Governor gives Policemen extra incentives and motivation apart from their regular salaries, while the populace is generally happy to cooperate with the Police.

    He urged  residents of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by calling the emergency number 615 in case of emergency.

    He noted that the current administration in Oyo state is in the good books of Police hierarchy throughout Nigeria because of the successful hosting of over 4,000 Policemen during the 2024 Police Games which held in Ibadan earlier in the year.

    Police arrest prime suspect over killing of two officers in Imo

    Imo Police Command has apprehended a key suspect in the deadly November 2023 attack that claimed a Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector of Police. 

    The accused, believed to be a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is said to have been the driver of the operation vehicle during the heinous act.

    The suspect was arrested on Monday after a fierce gun battle at their hideout at Amauze in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the State. 

    Disclosing this in a statement on Tuesday,  the Command spokesman,  Henry Okoye, said the suspect, one Chidebere Nwuzor (38), was arrested on April 8, after a fierce gunfight with the police operatives.

    Okoye said the suspect sustained a gunshot injury on his right leg that forced him to surrender. 

    He said the suspect has been on the Command’s wanted list due to a series of terrorist activities he perpetrated in the state alongside his criminal cohorts. 

    “He was arrested on 8/04/2024, in his criminal hideout at Umuogu, Amauze in Aboh Mbaise after a fierce gunfight with the ever-gallant operatives, which forced him to surrender after sustaining gunshot injuries on his right leg. 

    “Items recovered from the suspect include; one pump action gun with six rounds of live cartridges, one Barrera Pistol loaded with 2 rounds of live ammunition, and other incriminating teams 

    On interrogation, he said, “The suspect confessed to being a member of a deadly IPOB/ESN syndicate responsible for enforcing unlawfully imposed sit-at-home orders by the outlaw group and unleashing mayhem on unsuspecting citizens in the State.”

    According to g to him: “the suspect confessed that he was recruited into the deadly terrorist group by Ebube Virus and Ishaka, who were earlier neutralized by the operatives in December 2023, and admitted that he drove the operation vehicle that was used in the attack that led to the killing of DPO Ahaizu Mbaise and Inspector of Police in November 2023.”

    Police ‘defy order to remand alleged contemnor’

    Dada Aigbe, ordered  to be remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS) for contempt, is roaming Lagos roads as the police have defied a court order issued almost a month ago.

    Justice Akintunde Savage of an Ikeja had, on Monday, March 11, 2024, issued the order for the arrest of Aigbe, who is the chairman of Confidence Cargo, Freight Forwarder.

    Justice Savage had ordered: “Mr Dada Aigbe is hereby committed to Kirikiri Maximum Prison for a period of one (1)  month or until he purges himself of the contempt of this court and files an affidavit to henceforth not disobeys this court or any other court order.”

    The judge had ordered the arrest of the businessman for allegedly interfering in a land matter before the court.

    The Claimant in the land dispute in suit ID/3831LMW/2016 is Oba Shakirudeen Adeshina Kuti (for himself and on behalf  of the Abolarinwa family).

     The Osolo of Isolo, Oba Agbabiaka Kabiru Orisedeko Kuti, and the Baale of Mafoluku, Ajao Estate, Chief Hussam Raheem Shekoni Elemo, are defendants in the matter.

    The court order was sequel to forms 48 and 49 contempt proceeding filed against Aigbe, the application which was filed and moved by counsel to the Claimant and judgment creditor, Mr. Maruf Jimoh-Akogun, in the suit marked no ID/3831LMW/2016.

    To effect the order of the court , the Deputy Sheriff of High Court, took a “Request for Police Assistance” form dated March 18 to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command and the form was received same date.

    The Sheriff in the form stated that, “Under the provision of section 11 Sheriff and Civil Procedure Cap 127 Laws of Lagos State, 1973, that police will be providing constable to accompany the Sheriff to No 7a Adeola Ajayi Crescent, Airport Road, Lagos State to execute the warrant,”

    It was gathered that after Aigbe was arrested by the police officers at the NAHCO Airport and handed  over to officer in charge of Crack Squad, CP Joel Ugowe at the Lagos Command who allegedly released him contrary to order of the court.

    When the judiciary correspondents called CP Joel to confirm whether Aigbe had been handed over to the Kirikiri Maximum prison as ordered by the court, he directed them to come to Police Command Ikeja saying the issue was not a phone conversation.

    Upon getting to the command at the appointed  time, the policeman said he was with the Commissioner of Police for over three hours and all  attempts made by the reporters to see him proved futile.

    When contacted, the Lagos Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS), Lagos State, Rotimi Oladokun explained that if the police had brought the suspect in line with the order of court, it would be documented in their office.

    Olatokun said the  Freight Fowarder,  Aigbe was not in their custody in any of the NCoS centres in Lagos.

    “As at April 3, 2024, there was no record of the named person in our custodial centre. Kindly contact the arresting or prosecuting agency”, Oladokun said.

    The contempt proceeding application had been moved on January 18  by Jimoh-Akogun on behalf of Oba Shakirudeen Adeshina-Kuti for themselves on behalf of the Ajamogun/Onikotun family of Ewu kingdom.

    The claimant had filed the application against the traditional ruler in Isolo, Oba Agbabiaka Orisedeko-Elemo and the Baale Mafoluku Ajao Estate, Chief Hussam  Shekoni-Elemo as the first and second defendants respectively.

    A statement yesterday by the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the suspect, Chidebere Nwuzor (38), was arrested on Monday in his hideout in Umuogu after a fierce gunfight with the policemen. The suspect sustained injuries on his right leg which forced him to surrender.

    According to Okoye, the suspect has been on their wanted list due to a series of terrorist activities he reputedly perpetrated with his allies.

    The FCT police command on April 4, arrested one 38-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Oputa A.K.A. Pounds and Dollar of Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, and the leader of an armed robbery gang responsible for series of robberies and other heinous crimes in Abuja

    A statement yesterday by the FCT spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, as saying: “His arrest is consequent upon the apprehension of one Moses Hassan of Idda, Kogi State, a cultist, and member of the gang, on February 14.

    “Investigation subsequently led police operatives to the arrest of three other gang members – Praise Etta (30), of Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav A.K.A. All the suspects have since confessed to be involved in a series of robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT and are also members of a confraternity cult group called Vikings.

    The Police Recruitment Board yesterday fixed April 16 for practical tests/medical screening of specialist applicants in the ongoing recruitment of Constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

    The tests will run concurrently with the medical screening of general duty applicants and specialists, which had earlier been scheduled to start on April 16 and will last two weeks.

    A statement yesterday in Abuja by the spokesperson of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Ikechukwu Ani, said applicants were expected to be tested in various fields, including band, carpentry, communication, driving, electrical, information technology, masonry and marine technology.

    Other fields include mechanic, medical assistants, painting, plumbing, tiling, printing, welding, and veterinary assistants.

    The practical tests have been scheduled to hold at 20 locations nationwide, which are the 17 zonal command headquarters and Kaduna, Yobe, and Zamfara states’ command headquarters.

    Specialist applicants from these states are to do their practical tests in their respective states of origin.

    Also, PSC Chairman Solomon Arase has said the commission was desirous of returning the NPF to its glorious past when its specialists were the best and when the force handled most of its ancillary services by itself.

    Arase noted that the police force then had seasoned mechanics that handled repairs of its vehicles, masons that built police barracks, engineers who were into road construction and tailors who sewed police uniforms, among others.

    He said the practical tests for the specialist applicants would be meticulously handled to ensure that the best hands get selected.

    Police must explain alleged report, says security expert

    A security expert, Seun Omotosho, has said the Police must come clean on alleged certificate forgery against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

    Omotosho, who said the Police was yet to tell the world its findings on the matter, urged it to address points raised in the report by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tahir Usman.

    Usman acted on a petition by a lawyer, Oladotun Hassan, asking the police to probe into alleged discrepancies in the credentials of Aiyedatiwa.

    But  Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said Usman lacked authority to release such a report on behalf of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) or any other such departments.

    “The Force is investigating the origin of the document and the circumstances surrounding its circulation. We urge the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unverified information that could tarnish the reputation of individuals or public officials.”

    Governor Aiyedatiwa has threatened to explore lawful means to seek redress against Oladotun for the defamatory publication.

    Aiyedatiwa, in a letter by his counsel, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, said Oladotun is hindering investigation into ‘the wild allegations made against our client, in the bid to compel the police to accept your malicious version against our client.’

    He challenged Oladotun to confirm authenticity of his West African School Certificate with the examination body.

    Among conditions given by Aiyedatiwa to Oladotun included a public apology, unconditional withdrawal of false and malicious publications made of and concerning his WASCE result, unconditional withdrawal of letters to the Police in respect of the WASCE results and unconditional withdrawal of letters to All Progressives Congress in respect of the WASCE results.

    Others were Oladotun’s unconditional withdrawal of his letters to President Bola Tinubu, compensation for the ‘false and libellous’ publications and to desist from authoring, publishing or in any other manner circulating further false and libellous publications of and concerning him (Aiyedatiwa).

    Police hunt for 2Baba’s ally, ‘General’ 2man, in Rivers

    The CP Olatunji Disu-led Rivers State Police Command has taken its war against cultism to the camp of one Ikem Thankgod notoriously called General 2man, known as a close ally to 2Baba, the neutralised killer of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP. Bako Angbasim.

    General 2man was said to be a terror in the Ahoada West Local Government Area and neighboring local government areas with one of his nefarious activities being the shooting to death of Inspector Usang Ude on April 13, 2023. 

    A team of police officers was reportedly deployed to the Ogbologbo community in Ahoada West on Monday to bring an end to the reign of terror of General 2man.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP. Grace Iringe-Koko, said during the operation, General 2man and his gang opened fire on the police tactical team. 

    The statement said though the kingpin evaded arrest, his second-in-command, ThankGod Uchechi aka, ‘Pastor SP,’ and his third-in-command, ‘Western King’ Okpo Emenike were fatally wounded.

    Many gang members reportedly  escaped with gunshot injuries while two loaded AK-47 rifles and eight magazines were recovered from the gang.

    Concerted efforts were said to be on top gear to bring General 2man and his fleeing gang members to justice and put an end to his reign of terror.

    The statement listed most of the nefarious and brutal activities of the fleeing kingpin.

    The statement said: “On March 5, 2024, he also murdered four persons, namely, Henry Kirirka, Patience Henry, Abigail Victor, and Chigozie Okpo. He also slaughtered one Samuel Philip without provocation. Last month, he buried several persons alive, including Christmas Ede and Agode Gamany.

    “He has carried out a lot of kidnapping activities within and outside the Ahoada West Local Government Area. His catalogue of criminal activities also includes armed robbery and vandalisation of valuable properties. 

    “He coordinates the deroofing of public buildings and the selling of the roofing sheets. He also constituted himself as an authority that approves social events within the Local Government Area. This has made him attack and disrupt weddings, burials, etc., which he did not approve of”.

    The statement described the development as a giant step in its ongoing onslaught against cultism and other related crimes in the state. 

    “The Commissioner of Rivers State Command, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc , while commending the tactical team for their efforts, reiterates his commitment to fighting crimes in the state. 

    “He equally urged members of the public to feed the police with reliable information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects and other criminal elements in the state”, the statement said.

    Police raid Lagos black spots, arrest 303 suspects

    Ahead of the Muslim Eid el-Fitr celebrations, the police  arrested 303 suspects in raids carried out on black spots in Lagos on Saturday.

    The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday.

    Hundeyin said that after screening those arrested, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, directed that the suspects be prosecuted.

    “CP Fayoade has ordered for the immediate prosecution of 303 suspects arrested over the weekend during raids across the state, after a careful screening process.

    “The raids were carried out by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS),” he said.

    Hundeyin said that the Lagos Police boss received with concern reports that young men in certain parts of the state seized phones of passersby, to extort them.

    He said that the commissioner was worried in view of the sustained raids being carried out by officers and men of the command in the areas concerned.

    The image maker said that the commissioner had, therefore, directed all Area Commanders and DPOs, especially in identified areas, to redouble their security architecture.

    He said they had been charged to improve on patrol within their areas of responsibility to tackle the emerging menace.

    Hundeyin said the police boss warned that any officer in whose area such an incident occured again would be severely sanctioned.

    He said that the command remained unrelenting in its resolve and determination to continue to stamp out and make the public space hot for criminal elements in Lagos State.

    The spokesperson said the command commended those who brought the information on the menace to the relevant authorities.

    He urged residents to continue to say something when they see something. (NAN)
