    Police arrest three in raid of ‘kidnappers’ hideout

    The police in Lagos State have confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in Ijanikin area of the state.

    Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, in a statement yesterday, identified the suspects as Samuel Kwasi (64), Monday Unachukwu (24), and Freeman Ekpebo (23).

    According to her, the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, raided the kidnappers’ hideout at the Ijanikin area, arrested the syndicate, and rescued two victims.

    She said that the suspects had kidnapped two persons and demanded N150 million. “At 6pm on March 26, a resident of Millionaire Estate, Oniru, Lagos, reported the kidnap of her 10-year-old son, maid, (names withheld), and driver, Mr Samuel Kwasi, in the Ikoyi area of Lagos. She further revealed that the kidnappers demanded N150 million ransom.

    “Acting on this intelligence, a team of detectives led by CSP Tijjani Taofiq (Officer-in-Charge of the Zonal Monitoring Unit), acted swiftly utilising advanced tracking techniques and intelligence gathering.

    “The team pinpointed the kidnappers’ hideout in the Ayetoro area of Ijanikin, Badagry Road. And on March 28, at 3.40pm, the officers raided the hideout at Cozzy Hotel, Ijanikin, where one of the suspects, Unachukwu, was arrested and the victims rescued unharmed.

    Police clear kidnapper’s hideout in Abuja

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has begun clearing kidnappers hideout in Abuja.

    Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, who led the police team, stormed the hills and thick bushes surrounding Zone A and B of Apo-resettlement and its environs, to emplace some security measures in the area, as it is perceived to be kidnappers routes and criminal hideouts.

    The clearance operation involved burning of illegal structures and bushes surrounding the hills, as well as the deployment of operatives on surveillance patrol.

    A statement by the FCT command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, reads: “The CP wishes to reiterate that it is no longer business as usual, criminals who intend to disrupt the peace enjoyed by the residents of FCT will be met with decisive action from the police.

    Police arrest kidnap suspect while collecting ransom

    Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have nabbed 32-year-old Roland Raymond, a resident of Detti village in Ganye Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to collect money from a man he threatened to kidnap.

    Raymond is charged with criminal intimidation associated with kidnapping by forcing his target to pay money to avoid being kidnapped.

    The suspect was arrested following a report by one Abraham Paul, who raised the alarm that the suspect phoned and demanded N600,000 from him if he does not want to be kidnapped.

    A statement by the police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said officers, in collaboration with hunters, arrested the suspect at the point of collecting the N600,000.

    It added that he suspect will be charged to court.

    Owan, Edo State needs Police Counter Terrorism Unit

    Sir: As concerned citizens, particularly, as indigenes/residents of Edo State, it is disheartening that kidnappings, armed robbery, cultism, and other forms of criminal activity have eaten deep into the state and have continued to threaten the safety of lives and property.

    As a border local government with porous borders, bandits, kidnappers and other criminals fleeing from the actions of Amotekun in Ondo State have now moved into Owan West and Owan East Local Government Areas of Edo State to continue their nefarious activities.

    The abduction and kidnapping have become more indiscriminate across the two local government areas as these criminal gangs view victims as a source of income.

    If this spate of kidnappings and abductions are not nipped in the bud, it poses the potential of crippling socio-economic activities in the area.

    These criminals have set up camps in forests and carry out their heinous crimes from there. The incidents of robbery and kidnapping have been on the rise in recent times, most of the cases are either unreported or unsolved.

    The Akure-Uzebba-Ekpoma, Afuze-Uokha-Auchi, and Sabongida-Ozalla roads are known hotspots for these crimes.  The Owan Youth Council (OYC) is convinced that proactive rather than reactive measures would go a long way in mitigating insecurity in various parts of Owan West & Owan East LGA’s.

    Despite the efforts of the community leaders, Local and Edo State government, the rate of killings, kidnappings, and armed robberies in Owan West & Owan East Local Government Area remains alarming.

    There are about 121 communities in Owan West & Owan East Local Government Area alone, and the people living in these areas are constantly living in fear due to the activities of this armed herders and other criminal elements.

    As concerned citizens, we appeal to you to take action by establishing a Counter Terrorism Unit of The Nigeria Police Force in the area. This will go a long way in strengthening security and curbing the activities of these criminal elements in Edo State entirely.

    We believe that everyone living in Owan Land and other areas of the state will be appreciative and relieved if these issues are considered and acted upon.

    Deputy Commissioner of Police reportedly hangs self in Ogbomoso

    Gbolahan Oyedemi, a Deputy Commissioner of Police with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department, Alagbon, Lagos State, on Monday, reportedly committed suicide in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

    The body of the DCP  was reportedly discovered in his private house with a noose hanging around his neck.

    Though full investigation was yet to be carried out to ascertain the cause of his death, the deceased DCP was said to have gone home for the Easter celebration and arrived at his residence at Petros Academy Street, Federal Low cost area with no one accompanying him.

    The deceased officer, whose age is put at 50 plus, was the Aide De Camp of late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during his eleven-month tenure from 2006-2007.

    Before his death, Olugbemi served as Divisional Police Officer in Ilupeju, Area Commander in Ajah, and was Personal Assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.

    Kaduna: Police arrest armed robbery suspect, two others at large 

    The Police Command in Kaduna State said its operatives arrested an armed robbery suspect while two others were still at large.

    The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Kaduna.

    Hassan said, on April 1, Police operatives at Narayi Division at about 0200hrs received  a distress call from a good samaritan of Bilyaminu street in Narayi area in Chikkun Local Government Area of the state.

    “That some miscreants, numbering three suspects, alleged to be armed robbers with lethal objects, invaded an apartment belonging to Alhaji Muhammad and carted away his phone Samsung S22 model and other valuables.

    According to him, during the criminal act, the victim was stabbed severally with a knife.

    He disclosed that the arrested suspect was named Nura Musa of Hayin Dan Mani area in Igabi LGA.

    “The suspect, Musa, was arrested and found in possession of the carted items and weapons while his two other accomplices, Buhari Attah and Babangida DK, all of Hayin Dan Mani area, fled the scene, ” he said.

    Hassan said the victim was subsequently rushed to hospital for treatment while

     the suspect was in the Police custody for further investigation .

    ” Efforts are ongoing to arrest the other fleeing suspects, ” Hassan said.

    The suspect was arrested following a report by one Abraham Paul who raised the alarm that the suspect phoned and demanded N600,000 from him if he wished not to be kidnapped.

    A statement from the Adamawa Police Command said upon receipt of the complaint, the police in Ganye Division, in collaboration with hunters, arrested the suspect at the point of collecting the N600,000.

    Signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the statement assured that the suspect will be charged to court.

    Police seek arrest of soldier who stabbed trader to death in Ondo

    Ondo State Police Command said it was in talks with the military authorities with a view to identify the soldier who stabbed a trader to death.

    Spokesman for the Ondo Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the killing of the trader said the culprit would be arrested

    The trader, Ezeani Ebuka, aged 27, was reportedly stabbed on Saturday during a fracas.

    His colleagues who had shops at the Arakale area of Akure staged a protest demanding justice.

    They alleged that the soldiers stormed the area after they were mobilized to forcefully collect some money from a trader he had paid for a service.

    It was gathered that an argument ensued which led to a fracas and subsequent stabbing of Ebuka by a yet to be identified soldier.

    One of the traders who refused to say his name said the soldiers beat family members of the late trader to coma.

    The killing led to protest by the traders who blocked the road demanding justice and arrest of the soldier.

    Police arrest fake soldier in Lagos riverine community

    Operatives attached to Isheri-Osun Police Division have arrested an alleged fake Sergeant Major (RSM) fully claded in military camouflage.

    The suspect, Femi Balogun, was apprehended around 3pm on Saturday at Ijegun, a riverine community notorious for pipeline vandalism and safe haven for vicious criminals.

    It was gathered that the suspect, alleged to have been on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army, was arrested by operatives on visibility patrol along Fagbile Estate in Ijegun.

    When contacted, police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the suspect’s arrest.

    He said the military had been contacted and Balogun was confirmed to be a fake soldier upon interrogation.

    Hundeyin said the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

    Easter: Police kill two armed hoodlums in Enugu, recover AK-47 rifle

    The Enugu State police command has said that its operatives, serving in Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, have killed two hoodlums during an intelligence-guided raid of a suspected IPOB/ESN criminal hideout in Akwuke community of Enugu South Local Government Area of the state.

    The raid, which according to the spokesman of the command, Daniel Ndukwe, took place at on Saturday, March 30, at about 2:30 a.m, was in pursuance of the Easter proactive and crime prevention strategies devised by the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu.

    Ndukwe however disclosed that the operatives were met with resistance from the renegades, who opened fire upon sighting them, but they were subdued by the superior firepower of the operatives.

    “Two of the criminal elements were neutralized, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. One AK-47 rifle, one submachine gun (SMG), one stainless pump-action gun (PAG), 27 live and 23 expended rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition were recovered after the raid.

    “Also recovered are five live cartridges, and a small blue-colored Gideon New Testament bible used to conceal objects suspected to be charm.

    “A preliminary investigation reveals that the breech number of the recovered AK-47 was wiped off and that the criminal elements are responsible for several attacks and carting away of police officers rifles, as the rifle’s magazine bore the Nigeria Police Force colour. Further discreet investigations are ongoing”, he said.

    Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, while commending the operatives for the operational feat, has reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to rid Enugu State of unrepentant criminals. 

    He, however, solicited the continued support of the citizenry, while urging them and owners of medical facilities, in particular, to report persons found with gunshot wounds to the police.
