    Police confirms authenticity of e-CMR portal 

    The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the  implementation of the upgraded electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR).

    NPF said the e-CMR is an information system aimed at enhancing the safety and security of all Nigerians. 

    It said the initiative is a crucial step towards improving law enforcement capabilities and ensuring the well-being of citizens.

    A statement issued on Sunday, December 24, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CMR is a comprehensive system designed to streamline vehicle registration processes with a view to strengthening national security.

    Adejobi said: “It’s full operationalization would facilitate swift and efficient tracking of stolen vehicles, significantly increasing the chances of recovery; lead to the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date database of registered vehicles which would aid in the prevention and investigation of vehicle-related crimes such as kidnapping and one-chance activities involving; the system is also designed to make it impossible for stolen vehicles to be re-registered, adding an additional layer of security and discouraging criminals from engaging in such activities.

    “To register for the e-CMR, individuals and corporate bodies can visit the official website at https://cmris.npf.gov.ng. The process is user-friendly, and all residents are urged to take advantage of the convenience it offers by completing the registration from the comfort of their homes.

    “While appreciating the cooperation of the public in this crucial initiative, the Inspector-General of Police emphasizes that the NPF is committed to ensuring the welfare of the public, and the e-CMR and other applications designed by the police, like Rescue Me App and Police VGS, are vital tools in achieving this goal. 

    “The police acknowledges the concerns about e-CMR enforcement and assures that it would be done in the most professional manner with ample notice for registration by all individuals and corporate bodies. We urge all and sundry to spread awareness about e-CMR for a safer and more secure Nigeria.”

    Kano Police arrest housewife for killing her house help

    The Police in Kano State have arrested a housewife, Hafsat Surajo, for allegedly killing her domestic staff, Nafi’u Hafiz.

     “The 24-year old woman stabbed the victim to death at Agwam Uku of Taurani Local Government Area of the state,” the Police said, adding  that a discreet investigation led to the recovery of the knife with blood stain used in committing the crime.

    Police Commissioner in the state, Hussaini Gumel, confirmed the incident while briefing reporters in Kano yesterday.

    Gumel said “on December 21, at about 0700 hours, a report was received from one Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi Local Government Area that he received a phone call from one Daiyanu Abdullahi of Unguwa Uku, Kano, that his brother, Nafi’u Hafiz, was dead.”

    According to the Police Commissioner, when the  brother arrived at the residence of Unguwa Uku, they discovered several injuries on different parts of the deceased’s body. They suspected that the killer had stabbed the deceased with a knife. 

    According to him, the investigation led to the arrest of the key suspect, Hafsat Surajo, a house wife in the residence where the deceased lived.

    He said the suspect confessed to have singlehandedly committed the act by stabbing the deceased on several parts of his body.

     “Her husband, one Dayyabu Abdullahi, of the same address, and their gateman, Malam Adamu, were arrested for aiding, packaging and concealing the dead body to give cover up for the culpable homicide,” he stated.

    The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has condemned the police officers caught extorting money from a Dutch Tourist, describing them as unpatriotic and very bad representation of everything Nigerian.

    The Agency in a statement signed by Mr. Paul Odenyi, Deputy Director, Press; also applauded the Nigerian Police authorities for swiftly disowning, arresting and dismissing the personnel from the force

    The Director General of the Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who regretted the shameful act, said the Real Nigerian Spirit in us, abhors stealing in whatever guise.

    In his words: “These are not the real Nigerians. A real Nigerian is honest, dedicated, courteous and hardworking. No real Nigerian would descend this low to demand bribes from a tourist. Let it be known that this is not us, this is definitely not The Real Nigerian Spirit”.

    Issa-Onilu praised the Dutch Lady tourist for taking the bold step of reporting to the authorities.

    “What they have done is totally against the laws of our country and it behoves on every one of us to report such unruly behaviour, whenever, to constituted authorities for prompt disciplinary action.” 

    Issa-Onilu said the proposed lifestyle charter to be unveiled soon by the government, will spell out the promise of the country to its citizens and the citizen’s codes of duty to the country. These, he said, are above religious, tribal or political party sentiments. The government will not tolerate any act that puts our country in a disreputable stance amongst nations.

    Issa-Onilu urged all Nigerians to embrace the New Dawn of our Renewed Hope in the Real Nigerian Spirit.

    C’River Rep member moves to enact law on Maritime Police

    A bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Maritime Corps has scaled through second reading on the floor of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

    The bill is sponsored by Dr Alex Egbona who represents the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

    The bills seeks to achieve the enactment of a law that would promote maritime security in the nation’s waterways.

    It was read a second time before being referred to committee on Navy as well as the committee on maritime safety, education and administration.

    Speaking on the bill, Egbona said the many cases of insecurity on the waterways across the country, including the Niger Delta region, would be taken care of by the time the bill is passed into law.

    He thanked his colleagues for supporting the bill and expressed the hope that it would soon be passed and accented to, by the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

    Egbona expressed excitement that those who are interested in being trained on leather works will have the opportunity to get into the classroom at Ekureku, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, to learn.

    The Ekureku centre of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) is already getting ready to commence academic activities, according to Egbona.

    A manager for the Ekureku centre has already been appointed by the Federal Government.

    He is Mr Bernard Egwi Igiri, an indigene of Ekureku and has just been transferred from the institute’s directorate of research and development in Zaria to Ekureku to oversee the new centre.

    The Federal Government commenced construction work at the temporary campus of the institute at Ekureku following moves by Egbona in that direction.

    Speaking in an interview on Friday, Egbona said he decided to approach the Federal Government to attract the institute to his federal constituency because of the need to empower his people.

    He said it was exciting to know that after years of lobby and pressure on the authorities, the institute was finally at the verge of taking off at the Ekureku centre.

    He said in the next few years, the economy of Ekureku would come alive, as people would be visiting the town for high quality leather materials, including those for shoes, bags, chairs, wrist watches et cetera.

    He thanked the Federal Government for considering Ekureku as site for the monotechnic, saying everybody from Cross River and beyond would have the opportunity to learn at the centre.

    Elated Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun who was the Special Guest of Honour at the final, congratulated the winners and the runners-up for showcasing the finest of sporting excellence and discipline during the weeklong festival that was captivating and a unique tourism event that is growing in popularity and dimensions.

    The IGP who was represented by CP Deinma Abibo, hailed the Police team for their impressive outing, noting that the police participation in the tournament alongside the military and their  civilians counterparts, has instilled the spirit of unity and national cohesion amongst the various security forces and the public.

    Other top performers of the grand fiesta that is played annually as part of the foremost Abuja City Carnival, include the defending champions, this year’s runners-up Jos Malcomines who came back from goals down to draw former champions, Abuja Rubicon 7-7 in a tense President Cup final.

    A toss by Minister of Youths, Jamila Ibrahim after the cliff hanging draw, gave victory to Rubicon who had earlier carted home the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup.

     “I want to salute the fight back of Malcomines, it shows how strong they are in high-goal polo.” Senator Hadi Sirika, Rubicon Patron, said. “Our victory is well deserved because we are the strongest polo team in the country right now and we are determined the keep the status for a long time no matter the oppositions,”

    Meanwhile,  the chairman of Nigerian Army Polo Association (NAPA), General Laka led the Army team to clinch the Chief of Army Staff Cup, just as NSK polo team mounted by the President of Nigeria Polo Federation (NPF) Nura Kangiwa overwhelmed Abuja Dulci 9-1/2 to win the Guards Brigade Challenge Trophy.

    However, the near clean sweep of major prizes by Abuja based teams was brutally cut short by the rampaging Max Air team from Katsina who handed a 6-1/2 thumping defeat to Abuja Dokaji Farmers in the final to clinch the highly revered Legislative Shield.

    Imo State Police Command says it has arrested the Commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network, Ikechukwu Uba, of Emoha Mgbidi, in Oru West Local Government of Imo State.

    It said it also arrested one of the sponsors of the group and a traditional ruler of Isi Mgbidi, Emoha Mgbidi autonomous community, HRH Eze Anozie Augustine Agbarambo, who is now cooling off in the police net.

    The command, in a statement signed yesterday by its spokesperson, Henry Okoye, added that the operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa stormed the hideout of the suspects on December 16, 2023 and arrested him and three others.

    According to the police, “following a diligently gathered actionable intelligence on a deadly IPOB/ESN Terrorist Commander named Ikechukwu Uba, of Emoha Mgbidi, in Oru West Local Government of Imo State, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa stormed the hideout of the suspects on December 16 and arrested him and three others.

    “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) Terrorist group, commanding Mgbidi axis and stated further that he masterminded the attacks on Omuma Police Station and soldiers at Mgbidi and Awo-Mmama, narrating further that he receives funding from the Finland-based Simon Ekpa to carry out terrorist attacks in the state.

    “The suspects provided useful information to the determined operatives that led to the arrest of one of their alleged sponsors, HRH Eze Anozie Augustine Agbarambo ‘m’, 51 yrs, the traditional ruler of Isi Mgbidi, Emoha Mgbidi autonomous community.

    “Two locally made revolver long guns, one double barrel long gun and 33 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from his house during an intense search. Investigation is in progress and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of a diligent investigation.

    “In a different development, operatives of Nekede Divisional Headquarters while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol on December 10, 2023 arrested a suspected kidnapper, Sylvester Humble, ‘m’, of Umuoma Nekede, searched and recovered one locally made pistol in his possession.

    “In the course of the investigation, the suspect admitted to being a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorising the residents of Nekekde and Ihiagwa in Imo State and volunteered useful information that will assist the police in the arrest of his cohorts at large. He will be arraigned upon completion of a comprehensive investigation.

    “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, while appreciating the gallant operatives for sustained efforts in achieving this operational feat, urged them to sustain the tempo in the fight against all forms of crime and criminality in the state.”

    The CP assured the good people of Imo State that the command has placed enhanced proactive security strategies that will ensure the entire length and breadth of the state is adequately policed during and after the Yuletide.

    Police operatives in Enugu State have arrested seven youths, including a former local government councillor, for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, cultism and unlawful possession of firearm.

    .The ex-lawmaker, whose name was given as Henry Agbo Ogbonna, is a former councillor in Enugu South Local Government.

    Police operatives in Enugu state have arrested seven youths including a former local government councillor for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, secret cult, and unlawful possession of firearm.

    The ex-lawmaker, whose name was given as Henry Agbo Ogbonna, is a former Councillor in Enugu South Local Government Area of the State.

    A statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Dan Ndukwe made available to journalist on Thursday, stated that the lawmaker and the six others were apprehended at various times in the state.

    The statement reads: “The Commissioner of Police Enugu State Command, Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+)*, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to continuously clamp down on unrepentant criminal elements in the State.

    “The reaffirmation is following the arrest of seven (7) male suspects, including a former Local Government councilor, for the m s, and secret cultism. Six (6) firearms, sixteen (16) live cartridges, and a snatched motor vehicle were recovered.

    “A brief description of the arrests and recoveries shows that Police Operatives serving in the Abakpa Police Division of the Command, in synergy with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, on 06/12/2023 at about 9.30p.m., arrested one Ndubuisi Ugochukwu Eze Oboro aged 27.

    “The suspect and cohorts, who escaped, had attacked their male victim, dispossessed him of his phones and snatched his Toyota Camry car in the process. But were on the verge of escaping when Operatives swooped on them, arrested the suspect, and recovered one (1) locally made double-barreled pistol and the vehicle.

    “In a different development, Police Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command, in the month of November 2023, arrested the following male suspects: Kosisochukwu Ochiora aged 25, Agbo Daniel (a.k.a. Ara) aged 25, Henry Agbo Ogbonna aged 42, Ani Samuel aged 17, and Okolo Ndukanachi aged 24.

    “The suspects were arrested for their involvement in a case of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and cultism.

    “Their arrest led to the recovery of four (4) firearms, comprising two (2) locally made double-barreled and one locally made revolver pistol, one (1) cut-to-size single-barreled gun, and sixteen (16) live cartridges.

    “Investigations have proved that the suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity, while one of them, Henry Agbo Ogbonna, was found to be the former Councillor of Ikiriki Ward 6 in Enugu South Local Government Legislative Council, acclaimed Senior Special Assistance on Works to the Council’s Executive Chairman, and is a member and sponsor of the secret cult group activities.

    “It further revealed that the suspects, in the month of November 2023, perfected plans to avenge the attack on one of their cult group members by a notorious member of a rival cult group, Apache Tiger (also known as Two-two). This is before the Operatives swung into action and arrested them.

    “Similarly, the Operatives of the Squad, on 24/11/23 at about 8.30 p.m., arrested a male suspect, Ani Chidera aged 28, for his involvement in the case of burglary. A painstaking investigation led to the recovery of one (1) locally made pistol from the suspect, who also confessed to being a member of Viking’s Viking Confraternity. The suspect has been arraigned in court and remanded in the Correctional Custodial Centre.

    “The unprosecuted of the cases shall be charged to court and the suspects prosecuted once ongoing investigations are concluded.”

    PSC fixes date for screening of 416,270 police constable

    The Police Recruitment Board has approved January 8th as the date for the commencement of screening for successful applicants for recruitment into the Constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.

    The Board met on Thursday, December 21, at the Corporate Headquarters of the Police Service Commission (PSC) in Jabi, Abuja and took several decisions in respect of the next stages of the recruitment exercise.

    At the close of the Recruitment Portal early this month, 416,270 Nigerian youths were found to have satisfied the initial requirements for the next stage of the exercise.

    The successful applicants are made up of 315,065 for General Duty and 101,205 for specialist cadre.

    A statement issued by the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani read: “The successful candidates are expected to receive their letters of invitation  on or before the 23rd of December 2023.

    “This next stage of the exercise will include both physical and credentials screening to be conducted in the applicants state of origin. The Board has further directed that candidates invited for the screening exercise are expected to come with original copies of their certificates and other credentials  including letters of attestation from their Local Government Chairmen and/or their traditional rulers.

    “Other stages of the recruitment process include computer based test (CBT)which will hold after the screening exercise and  Medical examination.

     Dates for these  stages of the exercise would be announced in due course.

    “Meanwhile after the closure of the recruitment portal, Kaduna State with 31,117 successful applicants tops the list, followed by Adamawa with 29,848; Benue, 25,346; Borno 24,854; Katsina 24,239 and Bauchi 22,958. Other states with high successful applicants are Kano, 21,006; Niger, 17,959; Gombe17,493; Yobe, 17,207; Nasarawa, 16,284; Jigawa, 16,007; Taraba, 15,622, Plateau, 15,389 and Kebbi, 12,917.

    “Anambra State with 1,141 has the least successful applicants nationwide, followed by Ebonyi, 1,537; Lagos, 1,775 and  Abia, 2,110.

    “The Board demands that candidates must conduct themselves in a manner required of Nigerian youths desirous of a career in the Nigeria Police Force, an Institution guided by strict laws and regulations and which holds discipline as a bedrock for its existence.

    “The board also wishes to warn candidates to beware of fraudsters who will come with tempting promises of  assisting them based on payment of certain sums of money.”

    Ani said the entire recruitment exercise is free and will be based on merit and performance at each stage of the exercise.

    Police nab couple trafficking one-month-old in Onitsha

    • Baby bought for N30,000

    A couple has been arrested at the Bridgehead in Onitsha, Anambra State, for trafficking a one-month-old baby from Lagos State.

    A statement by the police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were intercepted following a call by a passenger travelling with them in the same vehicle. He said the suspects confessed to buying the child from the mother in Ajah, Lagos State, for N30,000.

    They have been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution. Ikenga added that the baby has been handed to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

    He said: “The police, on December 17, arrested a couple at Bridgehead in Onitsha; they were trafficking a one-month-old from Lagos. The couple were travelling in a luxury bus with the baby when a co-passenger observed that the mother could not breastfeed the baby despite its cry for food.

    “The good Samaritan called control room hotline in Awka, which then relayed the information to the police at Bridgehead. They confessed to buying the child from its mother in Ajah, Lagos for N30,000.”
