    Police restrict movements for Anambra Gov poll

    Anambra Police Command has announced total restriction of vehicular movements in/out and across the State on Saturday, November 8, 2025 Governorship election.

    Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said the restriction which takes effect from 12.00am to 6.00pm applies to all forms of motorised transportation, including: Private vehicles, Commercial vehicles, Trucks, Tricycles, Motorcycles and shuttle buses. 

    He urged intended interstate travelers intending to travel through any part of the State to take alternative routes during the period. 

    He said: “The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that there will be a total restriction of vehicular movements in/out and across Anambra State on Saturday, 8th November 2025, being the day of the Governorship Election.

    “The restriction takes effect from 12.00am to 6.00pm on the Election Day, and shall affect all roads within the state including interstate highways. 

    “This measure is in line with the unanimous decision reached at the meeting of the Security Services Commanders in Anambra State held at the Police State Headquarters, Awka, on 5th November 2025. 

    “The decision is aimed at preventing the movement of political thugs and other criminal elements who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process.

    “The restriction applies to all forms of motorized transportation, including: Private vehicles, Commercial vehicles, Trucks, Tricycles, Motorcycles and shuttle buses. 

    “All intended interstate travelers intending to travel through any part of the State are advised to take alternative routes during this period. 

    “Only persons on essential duties such as designated INEC officials, accredited journalists and election observers, medical personnel, emergency responders and essential services providers would be exempted – such persons must, carry valid identification and clearance tag at all times.

    “Residents are urged to comply with this security arrangement as it is designed to safeguard lives and property, ensure a peaceful election atmosphere and guarantee that voters freely exercise their right to vote their preferred candidate.

    “The Command calls on the electorate to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel who have been deployed across the State to enforce this directive and maintain order.”

    Police recover decomposed body in Imo kidnap operation

    The Imo State Police Command has dislodged kidnappers’ hideouts in Owerri-West, recovering a decomposed corpse suspected to be that of abducted lawyer, Barrister Jeffery Ucheagwu.

    The operation, coordinated by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, led to the recovery of a decomposed corpse from one of the hideouts located in an abandoned livestock farm deep within the Okuku–Agwa forest.

    According to ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, the operation was intelligence-driven and involved synergy with local vigilante groups.

     “The scene was cordoned off, and the body was carefully evacuated by operatives and taken to the morgue for further forensic examination,” he said.

    It was learnt that samples have been obtained for DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the body.

    In a statement by the police spokesman, Henry Okoye, Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, commended the operatives for their professionalism and gallantry, saying, “The Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all Imolites.”

    He said “The police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue Barrister Ucheagwu, if alive.”

    The public boss urged to remain calm and provide any information that could aid ongoing investigations.

    Police arrest four over Imam’s murder

    Four persons are in the custody of the Kwara State Police Command over the alleged murder of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area.

    The deceased has been identified as Alhaji Abdullahi Audu.

    The command said the incident followed the death on November 4, of 25-year-old Ibrahim Gana, who had been ill and on admission at a hospital. Two relations of the deceased, Mohammed Shaaba and Mahmud Gana, allegedly accused the Chief Imam of being responsible for their brother’s death.

    According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, “On November 4, at about 9:30 p.m., following the death of Ibrahim Gana, Mohammed Shaaba and Mahmud Gana allegedly mobilised several other individuals and attacked the Chief Imam with offensive weapons, leading to his death.”

    She said police operatives swiftly commenced an investigation and that four suspects have been arrested, adding that efforts are ongoing to detain others connected with the crime.

    Mrs Ejire-Adeyemi cautioned the public against jungle justice, stressing that taking the law into one’s hands is criminal and punishable under the law.

    NFF, Nigeria Police commit to greater safety and security measures in Abuja

    The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Sanusi Mohammed, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye.

    The visit was aimed at enhancing collaboration between the NFF and the Nigeria Police Force, with particular focus on ensuring security for football events held within the Federal Capital Territory.

    During the visit, Dr Sanusi extended his congratulations to CP Dantawaye on his appointment as the FCT police chief and conveyed best wishes from the NFF Executive Committee and Management. “This engagement is very special and important to us. We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and recognise the critical role that the police play in the realm of football,” he said, while expressing gratitude for past contributions of the police and underscored the mutual commitment to maintaining peace and tranquillity in football activities.

    CP Dantawaye received Sanusi with enthusiasm, and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police’s commitment to fostering a greater understanding with the NFF.     As a gesture of goodwill, Dr Sanusi presented a national team jersey to CP Dantawaye during the visit. With Dr Sanusi on the visit was Mr. Barnabas Joro, NFF’s Head of Safety and Security.

    DIG Okolo to lead police operations

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Force Intelligence, Ben Okolo, will coordinate police operations during Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election.

    Okolo will oversee all field activities in line with the strategic directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.

    The PSC said the security situation across Anambra remains calm as deployment of personnel and logistics intensifies ahead of the election.

    A monitoring team led by retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, who chairs the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters, has arrived in Awka to supervise police performance and ensure professionalism.

    PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani said the deployment followed the IGP’s two-day engagement with stakeholders in the state, which has begun yielding positive results.

    Ani said the PSC delegation would monitor compliance with operational guidelines and ensure the police fulfil their constitutional mandate as the lead agency for internal security.

    To strengthen accountability, the Commission has released dedicated hotlines for residents and observers to report police misconduct or commendations during the poll.

    DIG Lakanu reiterated the Commission’s commitment to supporting the police in protecting voters, election officials, and materials, noting that credible elections can only thrive in a secure and peaceful atmosphere.

    Attack on Operatives: Police detain 13, trail others

    The Police Command in Enugu State has detained 13 male suspects for armed attack on its operatives at Akpakume community in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

    The Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Wednesday in Enugu, said that police operatives recovered one locally made single-barreled gun in the community.

    Ndukwe said the attack was carried out early hours of Nov. 3, as police operatives went to the community to arrest some suspected criminals.

    “The police operatives had gone to effect arrest of suspects in connection with a case of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and cultism.

    “However, the suspects and their cohorts, who laid an ambush, suddenly opened fire on the police team, injuring some of the officers.

    “The operatives swiftly responded with superior firepower, forcing many of the criminal elements to flee with varying degrees of severe gunshot injuries.

    “The suspects’ gunfire shattered the light of the police operational vehicle and damaged other vehicles in the area (community),’’ he said.

    Ndukwe said that the state’s Commissioner for Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, had visited the community and ordered intensified manhunt for fleeing assailants of police personnel on duty.

    “In a follow-up development, the commissioner, on Nov. 4, led a team of senior officers to Akpakume community for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the suspects and others now on the run.

    “It was observed that the hoodlums had willfully destroyed houses, shops and other property, including crops and livestock belonging to members of the community.

    “Preliminary investigation has uncovered that the criminal acts are in furtherance of an existing intra-communal crisis in the area,” he said.

    Ndukwe said that the commissioner had urged law-abiding residents to remain calm and continue to go about their lawful businesses.

    “The command will stop at nothing to ensure that all those involved in the attack and other related criminal activities in the area (community) are brought to justice,” he assured.

    Imo Police probe assault on woman who aided investigation 

    The Police Command in Imo has commenced investigation into the assault of Mrs Ndididamaka Agu, 55, by a group of men at Emekuku near Owerri, the Imo capital.

    This is contained in a statement on Tuesday in Owerri, by the command’s spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye.

    Okoye said that the assault was allegedly carried out on Agu because she cooperated with police officers in an investigation.

    He explained that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, ordered the probe following a viral video showing the men assaulting the victim who hails from Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku.

    According to him, acting on the directive, the X-Squad Unit has commenced efforts to identify, arrest, and bring all individuals involved in the appalling act to justice without delay.

    “Meanwhile, preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was attacked by six men.

    “The assault was allegedly carried out because the woman cooperated with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purposes.

    “Consequently, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, after which they will be charged to court.”

    Okoye quoted the CP as strongly condemning the act and describing it as barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable.

    Danjuma also warned that any form of jungle justice or intimidation of residents, who lawfully assist the police, would not be tolerated under any circumstance.

    Agency praises Lagos Police Command over arrest of taxi driver

    The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has commended the state’s Police Command over the arrest of a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola driver linked to multiple cases of rape, defilement, and assault on female passengers.

    The commendation was contained in a statement issued yesterday and signed by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Adejoke Ladenegan- Oginni.

    The agency is working closely with the Police to ensure that justice is served, and to strengthen the ongoing investigation.

    The statement said: “Following the arrest of one Adedayo Ben Adegbola, a commercial taxi driver linked to multiple cases of rape, defilement, and assault on female passengers, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) commends the Lagos State Police Command for its swift and diligent efforts in apprehending the suspect.

    “The agency is working closely with the Police to ensure that justice is served, and to strengthen the ongoing investigation and expand the body of substantial evidence, we are calling on other victims or survivors who may have been assaulted by the suspect to please come forward.

    Police launch probe into assault on woman in Imo

    The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a thorough investigation into a viral video showing a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Agu Ndididamaka, being assaulted by a group of men in Emekuku in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.

    The woman was beaten into a stupor when the men stormed her residence, alleging that she was collaborating with police officers who had visited the community.

    CP Danjuma condemned the act on Monday and ordered thorough investigation into the incident.

    He said in a statement by the police spokesman, Henry Okoye, that the victim was attacked by six men – Osuji Chiazor, Agu Azubike, Njoku Onyedikachi, Njoku Eugene, Njoku Dikachi, Njoku Emmanuel, and Iwuala Chukwuma – allegedly because she cooperated with police officers who had visited the community for investigative purposes.

    He ordered the police X-Squad Unit to identify, arrest, and bring the perpetrators to justice, describing the act as “barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable”.

    “The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the act… Any form of jungle justice or intimidation of citizens who lawfully assist the police will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” the police statement reads.

    Anambra election: Police fully prepared, fortified, says CP

    The police are fully prepared and fortified for the protection of lives and property before, during, and after the Nov. 8 Governorship election in Anambra.

    The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, made this known in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga on Sunday in Awka.

    ”All tactical units, intelligence teams, and patrol formations are on heightened alert, with adequate logistics and coordination with sister security agencies in place.“We are fully prepared and fortified for the protection of lives and property before, during, and after the election,”  he said at the end of his statewide engagement on election security with the officers and men in police formations across the state.

    Orutugu commended the officers for their dedication and discipline throughout the advocacy campaign, which covered all Area Commands and Divisions in the state.

    He emphasised the importance of neutrality, professionalism, and respect for human rights by the police personnel during election duties

    The CP urged the officers and men to maintain vigilance, demonstrate courage, and uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring that peace and order prevails throughout the electoral process.

    He also used the opportunity to encourage members of the public to remain law-abiding and security-conscious.

    Orutugu assured residents that the police would continue to collaborate with communities and stakeholders to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

    NAN reports that in the last 20 days, the Anambra State Police Command initiated what it described as a “peaceful dialogue” with various security stakeholders, local government chairpersons, and traditional leaders to ensure a free and safe governorship election.

    The engagements, which took off in Njikoka on Oct. 14 and subsequently moved to the Aguata, Otuocha, Ogidi and Ihiala areas of the state, have reportedly touched flashpoints and were aimed at sensitising the residents on the need for peace and safety during the election.
