    Police want stakeholders to strengthen community policing in Kogi

    The Police Command in Kogi has called on traditional rulers and other stakeholders to enhance community policing efforts to curb crime and strengthen security in the state.

    The Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) Abubakar Zubairu, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja by the command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya.

    Zubairu who spoke at a stakeholders’ engagement in Okene Local Government Area, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to community-driven security initiatives.

    He said that manpower and resource constraints necessitated an inclusive policing approach.

    The AIG commended the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Miller Dantawaye, for his proactive leadership style saying “security is everybody’s business, and together, we can ensure stability and peace.”

    Dantawaye, in his contributions, reiterated the command’s commitment to implementing the community policing project as a core strategy for effective law enforcement.

    He stressed the need for synergy among law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions, local communities, and other security stakeholders in combating crimes, particularly kidnapping, and other security threats.

    Dantawaye commended the dedication of security formations, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups, hunters, and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in security efforts.

    He urged residents to actively participate in intelligence gathering, adding that security cannot be left to uniformed personnel alone.

    “Policing requires the cooperation of every citizen. We need you to be our eyes and ears to ensure a safer society,” he said.

    The police commissioner advised the officers on discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights.

    He said that police personnel are undergoing continuous training to enhance their operational capacity and investigative skills.

    “As part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime, the police in Kogi will intensify intelligence-based operations, strengthen police-community relations, and engage stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and security in the state,” Dantawaye added.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stakeholders were traditional rulers, local government representatives, transport unions, and various community groups.

    They pledged their commitment to strengthening security in the state.

    The Police Command in Anambra, in collaboration with the Joint Security Task Force (JTF), has rescued three kidnapped victims along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

    According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Saturday in Onitsha.

    According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

    He assured the public that security operations would be sustained to deny criminals the opportunity to wreak havoc in the state.

    “The Joint Security Team, in a coordinated operation on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at about 7:20 a.m., successfully rescued three kidnapped victims along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in Ozubulu,” Ikenga stated.

    “The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention due to the injuries inflicted on them by their abductors.

    “They are currently responding to treatment and will be debriefed by the police once they are stable,” he said.

    Ikenga further explained that security checkpoints across the state were placed on high alert after the victims’ abduction was reported at Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area.

    “This swift action contributed to their successful rescue,” he added.

    He reassured the residents of Anambra of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining aggressive security operations to keep criminals at bay.

    The police said the syndicate is operating under the guise of an orphanage in Kubwa, Abuja.

    The suspect was arrested following credible intelligence on suspicious activities on March 20 2025 at Mother Deborah Orphanage.

    Police operatives from Kubwa Division swiftly stormed the location.

    The operation, police said, led to the rescue of a three-year-old child, suspected to have been stolen from Kaduna State.

    Two suspects, including the orphanage owner, Ijeoma Andy, were arrested while efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices.

    According to a statement issued on Saturday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh: “In a major breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking and missing persons, the FCT Police Command has successfully rescued 23 children from a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of an orphanage in Kubwa, Abuja.

    “Further investigations uncovered a shocking discovery of 22 additional children, aged between 2 and 14 years (14 females and 8 males), believed to be victims of child trafficking. When interrogated, Ijeoma Andy failed to provide a reasonable account of the children’s origins or how they ended up in her facility. The 22 rescued children have since been taken into protective care, where they are receiving the necessary attention.

    “The FCT Police Command assures residents that the Command will stop at nothing to dismantle criminal networks preying on innocent children and persons.

    The Oyo Police Command has apprehended two people in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital over possession of the human parts.

    Police said that the arrested suspects specialized in exhuming buried corpses and selling their body parts for ritual purposes, in Ibadan.

    A statement by the spokesman of the Command, Adewale Osifeso said: ” The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at about 0230Hrs. Detectives from the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on a tip-off, searched the residence of one Ridwan Bello, a 35yrs,’m’ also known as Asalailu, located in the Muslim area of Ibadan.

    “During the search, a female human torso and other dismembered human remains, including severed limbs and dried bones, which were stored in bags and a paint bucket were recovered. In his confession, Bello claimed to have exhumed the corpse from a cemetery in Awa-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State and admitted to selling the body parts to ritualists. He later led detectives to the cemetery, where his claim was verified.

    “Further confession by the suspect led to the arrest of one Fatai Adeleke, 70 yrs ‘m’, his accomplice who buys human parts from the suspect for ritual purposes. Adeleke also admitted to his involvement in the illicit trade in human body parts.

    “The case has transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation, as efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend all those involved.

    “The Command urges managers of cemeteries to exercise heightened vigilance in light of recent instances of ritualists exhuming corpses. Additionally, transporters are advised to scrutinize the contents of their passengers’ loads to avoid inadvertently facilitating illicit activities.

    Insecurity: Ondo police trains personnel on crime mapping

    In a bid to tackle rising insecurity in Ondo State, the state Police Command has conducted a two-day intensive training for its officers on crime mapping and prevention strategies.

    The training, aimed at enhancing crime detection, comes amid increasing incidents of kidnapping in recent months, particularly in Akure North Local Government Area.

    In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said officers were trained on the use of modern equipment, technological crime detection techniques, and strategic resource deployment within their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

    Odunlami explained that the training featured practical sessions, during which participants learned how to gather and process information into actionable intelligence.

    The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Olutokunbo, urged the officers to apply the knowledge gained to their daily policing duties. 

    He emphasized professionalism in crime prevention and law enforcement, noting that effective crime detection requires methodical approaches and best practices.

    According to the statement, “The CP appreciated the facilitators and commended the participants for their commitment during the training as the command is committed to capacity building through training and retraining of his officers to become professionals and well-equipped to tackle emerging security challenges.

    Police arrest 64-year-old lawyer over alleged shooting of Imo student

    The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 64-year-old lawyer, Donald Mbamah, in connection with the fatal shooting of Paul Victor, a 16-year-old student of Urban Development Secondary School.

    The tragic incident occurred on March 17, 2025, at about 12:34 p.m. at Mbamah’s residence in Area N, World Bank, New Owerri. 

    According to police reports, Victor was shot in the buttocks under circumstances that are still under investigation.

    Responding swiftly to a distress call from a concerned neighbor, operatives from the New Owerri Division apprehended Mbamah at the scene.

    Victor was rushed to the General Hospital, Umuguma, but was pronounced dead on March 20, 2025.

    Confirming the incident, the state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that Mbamah has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further questioning as investigations continue.

     “A thorough investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to recover the alleged firearm used in the shooting,” Okoye said. 

    He disclosed that “Photographs were also taken at the crime scene as part of the investigation.”

    “The police have expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and assured the public that justice will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law. 

    He said: “Mbamah will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.”

    The police spokesman also urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow the authorities to handle the matter through legal means.

    Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Benue State Command have killed 12 bandits during a gun battle, during which Inspector Terfa Anyiatse died.

     Further raids conducted around Daudu and Makurdi resulted in the recovery of seven local pistols, three AK-47 rifles, the arrest of five suspected robbers, and 32 suspected cultists.

     In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the incident happened about 2 am on March 19, when the policemen were ambushed by bandits while en route to a discovered criminal hideout in Agwabi, Tombo Ward, Buruku Local Government Area.

    He said a gun battle ensued, during which the police operatives subdued the gang and killed 12 of its members, while others escaped. A member of the police team, Inspector Anyiatse, sustained injuries and died later.

     He quoted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun as commending the dedication of the operatives and mourning the late inspector.

    Man ‘kills’ wife after dispute in Lagos

    Lagos State Police have arrested Peter Dike for allegedly stabbing his wife to death during a dispute at their apartment in Oke Ira Ilogbo Eremi community, Morogbo.

    The incident occurred on Wednesday, when an argument between Dike and his 38-year-old wife escalated into an altercation.

     In the heat of the fight, Dike reportedly rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed his wife in several parts of her body.

    According to eyewitnesses, the woman was left in a pool of blood, writhing in pains before dying.

    Dike allegedly remained beside his wife’s body until the police arrived.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “The case is confirmed. After a team of detectives in the area got the information, they swiftly moved in and arrested the suspect. One kitchen knife stained with blood was recovered from him. He confessed to the crime.’’

    The victim’s remains were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Badagry.
