    Police kill four suspected kidnappers in Delta

    Operatives of the Delta Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team have killed four suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle.

    In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the CP, Olufemi Abaniwonda, through the Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, said an earlier arrested suspect held foe trying to buy an AK-47, disclosed the hideout of the deceased suspects at a bush along the railway line, Agbarho.

    “The suspect during interrogation revealed the the location where the rifle was hidden. The operatives stormed the bush along the railway line in Agbarho where the gang members upon sighting the Police engaged the team in a fierce gun duel, during which four suspected kidnappers sustained serious gunshot injuries. One AK-47 Rifle with one magazine was recovered. 

    “The injured suspects were taken to the general hospital Ughelli for treatment but were later confirmed dead by the doctor. Corpses have been deposited at the hospital morgue while the effort to trail and arrest the fleeing hoodlums is ongoing,” Edafe’s statement read.

    Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a principal, Kayode Abolarin, and a teacher, Atueyin Martins, over the alleged physical assault of a 15-year-old pupil.

    The suspects, both educators at the Okota Junior Grammar School, allegedly committed the offence on March 11.

    The victim was said to have lost three of her teeth as a result of the beating from the two men.

    Although the cause of the assault was not stated, police spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday said the victim’s mother reported at the Isolo Division around 11am that day.

    He said the suspects were promptly arrested and currently assisting the police in their investigations into the incident which took place in the school premises.

    The command also arrested a 74-year-old man, Aderinsola Addiths, over alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl (names withheld).

    Hundeyin said the incident occurred on March 12, at the Iju Ishaga area of the state.

    Addiths, a neighbour of the victim’s parents, allegedly lured the teenager to his room where he took undue advantage of her.

    The victim was said to have reported to her mother who then filed a complaint at the police station the next day.

    Following the complaint, Addiths was arrested by detectives who visited the scene.

    The teenager was also taken to the hospital for examination and treatment, Hundeyin said.

    Assuring that investigations were ongoing on the cases, Hundeyin said the Lagos Police Command under Commissioner of Police (CP) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh would ensure justice, adding that the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

    Police probe death of officer on special duty

    The Ogun state police command said it has commenced investigation into the tragic death of an Inspector, Ajele Oloyede, who reportedly shot himself to death while on special duty.

    Oloyede, a Police Mobile Force (PMF) operative attached to MOPOL 78, Zamfara state, was alleged to have turned his rifle on himself while on special duty at Goodwill Ceramic Company, Igbesa, Ogun state.

    It was gathered that the incident occurred around 1:20pm on March 14.

    According to preliminary reports, Oloyede was seen resting his head on a table by another officer, Tolorunloju Stephen, who asked if all was well with him?

    He was said to have responded in the positive to Stephen who had just returned from Ikeja, Lagos.

    After exchange of pleasantries, Stephen, a copy attached to the Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos but on special duty at Ibesa, was alleged to have gone to the restroom where he was when he heard a gunshot.

    He was said to have rushed back only to find Oloyede in a pool of blood.

    According to spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, Stephen with the assistance of private security personnel in the company, rushed the injured Oloyede to Ota General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

    “The firearm used in the incident has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the hospital for an autopsy.

    “The Commissioner of Police who received the shocking news has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, perhaps any foul play as well as any possible mental health factors.

    “The police ware swift in contacting the deceased officer’s family and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for discreet investigation.

    “The Nigeria Police Force expresses its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of Inspector Ajele Oloyede. The command remains committed to the wellbeing of its officers and will ensure that all necessary support is provided during this difficult time,” said Odutola.

    Police recover headless corpse of teenager, begin probe

    The police in Jigawa has said its operatives have begun investigation into the circumstances around the headless corpse of a teenager found on the side of the road in Jikas-Dabaja village of Gwaram local government area of the state.

    SP Lawan Shiisu, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement in Dutse .

    Shiisu said that the teenager’s corpse was found at the scene of the incident at about 9 p.m., on Wednesday.

    “On Wednesday at about 2200hrs, the Divisional Police Headquarters Gwaram informed us about a corpse in Jikas-Dabaja village, Gwaram LGA.

    “A team of policemen rushed to the scene and on arrival, they discovered a headless corpse. The corpse also had his private parts removed.

    “The corpse was later identified as that of a 14-year-old Almajiri, who went missing two earlier,” Shiisu said.

    He explained that the victim’s relatives were contacted after being certified dead by medical doctor on call.

    ”The remains was released to them for burial.

    ”Investigations are ongoing with a view to apprehending the perpetrators,” he said.

    In another development, Shiisu said that the police was also investigating the death of 22-year-old bride in Hadejia local government area.

    Shiisu said the deceased, identified as Zainab Ibrahim, died from throat cuts five weeks after her marriage

    He added that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Hadejia where a medical doctor on call pronounced her dead.

    The spokesman said investigation has since began and efforts were being stepped up to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.

    A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Zone 9 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) yesterday slumped at one of the eateries in the zone’s headquarters.

    Sources said the late police officer had returned from an assignment with his team and went for a meal.

    It was gathered that he started behaving strangely while eating and collapsed.

    He was taken to the police clinic at the Central Police Station, and later the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead.

    His body has since been deposited at the FMC morgue, according to reports.

    Two men, Maja Tayo, 26, and Ogunbayode Olumide, 25, have been arraigned at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting a senior police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adebayo Akeem, on duty.According to police reports the incident occurred on March 3, at Olukosi Shasha, Akowonjo, when Akeem, attached to the Shasha Division, was carrying out his duties, had an altercation with the suspects and others who are at large. The altercation escalated, leading to the officer being  attacked and sustaining serious injuries.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutor Inspector Simeon Njue requested a date for hearing to allow the police to present evidence supporting the allegations.

    Presiding Magistrate Mr. T.A. Popoola granted the defendants bail of N500,000 each, with two sureties who must provide evidence of livelihood and tax payments. Their residential addresses must also be verified by the court before the bail conditions are considered met.

    The case was adjourned to March 31, for mention, while the defendants were remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center pending fulfillment of their bail conditions.

    Police hunt killers of residents in Ondo attacks

    The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for assailants who attacked four communities in Akure North Local Government Area, leaving several people dead.

    The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, but the affected communities—Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekun—suffered heavy losses. A resident, Sunday, claimed that over 40 people were killed, while the Regent of Ademekun, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, reported 14 deaths.

    However, the police confirmed receiving reports of an attack on Sunday Camp community. Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, led a team for an on-the-spot assessment but was halted at Utese, as the communities could only be accessed through Edo State.

    Survivors met the police at the boundary, explaining that reaching Sunday Camp required a five-hour motorcycle journey. Afolabi later visited Emiloju Medical Centre in Okada, Edo State, where survivors were receiving treatment.

    One survivor, John, who was shot in the hand, said at least nine bodies were recovered from the attack site at Sunday Camp.

    According to him, “I was sleeping when I heard gunshots. It was when I suddenly woke up that I realized the person who was sleeping beside me had already been shot. I was able to run into the bush before entering a cocoa plantation where I was able to hide till daybreak.

    On his part, Solomon Simon said the attack happened around 2:00 am. 

    “I was not deep asleep. They made a kind of loud call before they began to open fire all around the camp. I summoned courage to flee the house before they could get to my own place. But two of my friends could not make it.”

    The CP ordered the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

    He urged the public to inform the Police of any incident and verify reports before dissemination to avoid causing panic in the state.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing battle against criminal elements, as officers successfully neutralized a notorious kidnapper, Dogo Saleh.

    FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, assuring residents that the command remains committed to eliminating threats to public safety in the FCT and neighboring states.

    According to the statement: “In a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation, FCT Police operatives neutralised a notorious bandit, Salisu Mohammed, alias “Dogo Saleh,” following an intense counter-kidnapping operation aimed at dismantling a syndicate responsible for violent crimes along the Kaduna-Lokoja-Enugu highway and within the FCT.

    “On March 3, 2025, acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of bandits into the FCT, the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led operatives to block their access routes. After meticulous tracking, the operatives successfully intercepted and arrested Salisu Mohammed at Gidan Abe Forest while he was en route to Bwari Area Council, FCT”.

    The Nation learnt that Salisu Mohammed, a 21-year-old man from Baban Saural village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was identified as a notorious hitman for bandit leaders operating in Rijana Forest, Kaduna State.

    He had terrorised communities along major highways, kidnapping unsuspecting victims and extorting huge ransoms.

    During the operation, he attempted to evade capture, abandoning his possessions include, an AK-49 rifle with two magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and N3,000,000 cash proceeds from previous kidnappings.

    The FCT PPRO further said investigations revealed that the hoodlum has direct involvement in several high-profile kidnappings and killings including, Kyauta Village, Chikun LGA (two years ago), two individuals, including a security officer were kidnapped who later killed after ransom worth millions of Naira was collected.

    “Kike Village (one year ago) – A security officer’s wife kidnapped. Ransom collected: millions of naira. Bagada Village (five months ago) – Three individuals kidnapped. Ransom collected: millions of naira. Village near Kaduna Refinery (one year ago) – Two men kidnapped. Ransom collected: millions of naira. Karuga Village, Chikun LGA (one year ago) – One person kidnapped. Ransom collected: millions of naira. Bagado Village, Chikun LGA (eleven months ago) – Ransom collected: millions of naira. Dan-Bushiya Village (two years ago) – Ransom collected: millions of naira. Kidnapping of a woman and her two children at Police Quarters in Baban Saural, Chikun LGA – The officer and her children remain in captivity. Attack on security outpost at Kujama Market, Kaduna (January 5, 2025) – Two security personnel killed, firearms stolen.

    “Salisu Mohammed and his gang were actively involved in kidnapping motorists along the Lokoja-Enugu highway. Led by his gang leader, Kanaboro, alongside Saleh and Abubakar, they recently kidnapped a tribal youth leader and others, collecting ransom before their release.

    “Leadership: Boka – Overall commander (now deceased), Sharmi (surname unknown) – Deputy, Dogo Isa – Assistant (now deceased), Gudan – Assistant. Each of them operated a sub-camp in the forest.

    “Connection with Terrorists: The gang is loyal to Dogo Gide and collaborates with the Ansaru terrorist group for arms and ammunition supply.

    “On March 4, 2025, at approximately 11:14 PM, leveraging intelligence provided by the arrested suspect, operatives launched a high-risk follow-up operation to dismantle his gang. The suspect led the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to Kwasau Forest, Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, where his gang, led by one Abdu Musa, alias “Kanabaro,” had established a major hideout.

    “Upon arrival, the Police team was ambushed by armed bandits attempting to free the suspect. The operatives swiftly engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, displaying superior tactical expertise and resilience. The bandits were ultimately overpowered and forced to flee into the forest with severe gunshot wounds. The suspect sustained fatal gunshot wounds inflicted by his own gang during the crossfire. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

    “The Police recovered: An AK-47 rifle with a scratched-out breech number. One magazine with two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

    “The bandits’ hideout was successfully dislodged. One officer, Inspector of the FCT Anti-Kidnapping Unit, sustained minor injuries and has since been treated and discharged. No other casualties were recorded”, she noted.

    Adeh further opined that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Olatunji Disu, has commended the officers involved in the operation for their bravery, professionalism, and tactical efficiency.

    The CP assured residents that operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing gang members and dismantle all criminal networks operating within the region.

    He further reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to remain vigilant and support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and actionable intelligence.

    Lagos Police, Navy commit to improved security, collaboration

    The Nigerian Navy (NN) and the police yesterday pledged to strengthen their relationship to boost security of lives and properties in Lagos.

    The commitment was made at the office of the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, when the Commander Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Commodore Paul Nimmyel, paid him a visit.

    Nimmyel, who assumed duty as the Commander of the Naval base, said he was at the command as parts of effort to strengthen interagency collaboration and to also pledge his continued support to the police.

    According to the Navy Commander, the primary task of the base was to ensure that the waterways and sea lines were secured for economic activities to thrive.

    Noting that no agency can effectively provide security by itself, Nimmyel, thanked the police for their assistance to the Naval Base.

    Intimating the Police Commissioner of the base’s area of responsibility, the Commodore said it stretches from the waters of Badagry to Escravos in Delta State and 200 nautical miles into the high seas.

    “And, then, towards the back waters, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo states. So, it’s quite a large area to cover. Just having come on board on the 6th of February, I found it expedient to pay courtesy call, not just to the Commissioner of Police, but to other security agencies in Lagos that form the security architecture of the state.

    “The basic thing about security is that we cannot do it alone. We have to work in synergy with other security agencies because we have our different training in our different fields. But, collectively, we can secure the society and make it a safe haven for everybody.”

    Police arrest five suspected kidnappers, recover arms in Rivers

    The Rivers State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition.

    The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Grace Iringe-Koko said the development was following a series of kidnapping incidents within the Rukpokwu, Igwuruta, Omagwa, and Etche areas.

    She said the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, made the areas during a coordinated operation on March 8 at about 09:30am.

    She said the operation that lasted for eight hours led to the arrest of Mohammadu Bello, 30; Suleman Umar, 26; Bello Amadu, 35; Adamu Musa, 30 and Abubakar Mohammed, 22.

    “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple kidnapping activities, including the tragic killing of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa where the CSO and his son were murdered in cold blood”, Iringe-Koko said.

    She names exhibits recovered from the suspects as two AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, 66 rounds of ammunition, three locally made pistols, 10 live cartridges and many mobile phones and SIM cards

    Iringe-Koko said: “The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. Efforts are ongoing to uncover details of other crimes committed by the syndicate and arrest others at large.

    “The Rivers State Police Command assures the public of its unwavering commitment in ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Further updates on this investigation will be communicated in due course.”
