A stray bullet from an OP MESA van on Thursday hit one Ifeanyi Mmezi at Ijegun, a Lagos suburb, leaving him unconscious.
It was gathered that Mmezi was rushed to Igando General Hospital, where doctors have been battling to resuscitate him.
The Nation learnt that soldiers drafted to checkmate activities of militants and kidnappers at Ijedodo community, started shooting sporadically around 1pm.
The victim was was alighting from a commercial bus, was said to have been hit by stray bullet on his left hand.
A witness, Iya Modina said: “The soldiers were in their van driving through Ijegun Bus Stop, when they started shooting into the air. Before we knew it, a man who was alighting a commercial bus was hit by stray bullet. People scampered for safety and the soldiers just drove past.
“Some people started making calls to alert the relevant agencies. A man picked the victim’s phone and called some contacts on it. But when his relatives arrived, he was already at the hospital.”
Mmezi’s cousin, Wisdom Osimiri said the victim was returning from work when the incident occurred.
According to him, doctors might amputate his cousin’s arm once he’s revived.
Osimiri said: “My cousin boarded a bus from Ikotun to Ijegun, only to be hit by a stray bullet from soldiers. He is unconscious as I speak. The doctors said they would transfer him.”

The police in Lagos on Thursday paraded an aggrieved fraudster, Henry Ezechie with six others who allegedly specialise in internet fraud.
The suspects were all arrested on Saturday at Ajah, after Ezechie who felt cornered in a $7,090 deal he had with Kenneth Eric alias Biggie, petitioned the police alleging that the others were kidnappers and fraudsters.
It was gathered that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence (SCIID) Panti-Yaba stormed Eric’s Ajah residence and arrested Stephen Onwunama, Jacob Chukwuka and two others.
However, Onwunama and Chukwuka have both denied being criminals insisting that they were just Biggie’s friends and usually visited his home.
Ezechie who admitted reporting to the police said he was angry that Biggie refused to give him his 80 percent share of the loot.
“Biggie is the one owing me. We had a $7,090 deal and he refused to give me my 80 percent share of the money and so, I took the payment slip to the police to report. We do yahoo business (Internet fraud). It was my deal. He is the picker and so, his share is 20 percent.
“Picker is the person who receives the money and sends to Nigeria. He has contacts in America who pick the money and send through money transfer. I have been doing this business for some years now to survive, but this was my major breakthrough and he refused to give me my money. It is dating that we do. We use Match, Facebook and other sites,” he said.
But Eric, who admitted he was into Internet fraud, denied being a kidnapper. He also denied defrauding Ezechie, claiming that the deal did not click.
“Henry alleged me. He gave me a transaction of N300,000 which did not click and he went to the police to claim that I was a kidnapper and a fraudster. He left what we were doing and started talking rubbish. Whoever gave him that receipt he took to the police was just deceiving him. I do Facebook loto. We tell victims that if they pay $800 they will win $100,000. Most of our victims are white people because they are greedy,” he said.
Onwunama who denied being a fraudster said he only came to visit his friend and he was arrested.
He claimed that he was a government worker in Delta State, adding that he laid somewhere in the room when the police came and searched everywhere.
“They found nothing on me. They searched my phones and laptop and they didn’t see anything that has to do with fraud in it. I was just visiting my friend and I have spent two weeks in his place. I was to go back to Asaba on Sunday before I was arrested on Saturday. I don’t know how it is an offence to be a friend to a fraudster,” he claimed.
Chukwuka also denied being a fraudster, insisting that he only went to Kenneth’s place after he heard the police were there.
“I was at my house when I heard that the police were at Kenneth’s place to arrest him that he was a kidnapper and a fraudster. So, I went there with my younger brother to explain that I know him. That he was not a kidnapper. That’s how I was also arrested. I did not do anything wrong. I have never been a criminal in my life,” he said.
Parading the suspects, Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni said they will be charged to court at the completion of investigation.

The police Sergeant who allegedly killed a driver, Salua Fatai at Orile, Lagos, on Sunday has been arrested.
It was gathered that the Sergeant identified simply as Isaac of the Special Protection Unit was arrested on Tuesday and detained at the division over the incident.
Isaac was said to have fired a shot indiscriminately at Doyin Bus Stop, while trying to make way for his principal, a certain Temitope Omolayo.
He was said to have been assigned as police escort to the occupant of a Toyota Land Cruiser jeep marked PF742SPY, which was heading to Ibadan.
The Nation gathered that in a bid to disperse crowd from the road, the Sergeant fired a shot which hit and killed Fatai.
It was learnt that the deceased who was the chairman of Coastal Drivers Association will be interred on Wednesday.
A source who hinted on the burial, said that the police have released his corpse, adding that the suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti-Yaba.
He added that other drivers in the union boycotted work on Tuesday to mourn their chairman, just as he urged the police to ensure the matter was not swept under carpet.
Narrating how the incident occurred, he said: “He was on his way to his Oke-Afo residence with a friend Kehinde, after checking his vehicle at the Federal Mass Transit bus station in Orile. While in the vehicle, he discovered there was traffic and they came down to know what was wrong. That was how the bullet hit him and he died.
“The deceased’s wife was invited by the police and taken to Ikeja to see the man who shot her husband. The police have promised to investigate the matter thoroughly. Our chairman will be buried on Wednesday.”

The Nigerian Army (NA) on Monday commenced a five-day training on tactical maneuverability to boost its fight against terrorist sect Boko Haram.
This training, according to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Isidore Edet was aimed at improving the quality of officers and soldiers with regards to maneuverist approach to warfare process.
Edet who declared the training open at the Army Officers’ Mess, Marina, Lagos, reiterated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai’s high premium on training which has recorded successes in the Northeast.
According to him, the Planning Cadre training would also improve the planning capability of commanders and staff officers within the division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) to conveniently compete with their counterparts globally.
“Topics have been deliberately selected and tailored to focus on maneuverist approach to warfare process, estimate process as well as contemporary operations within Nigeria,” he said.
Reminding his men of the security challenges facing the country, Edet warned them to be cautious and vigilante.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an alleged armed robber, Sunday Onjefu, 27, who specialises in attacking women.
The suspect was said to have been arrested Itedo Bus Stop, Lekki while attempting to dispossess a young woman of her handbag.
It was gathered that policemen attached to the Maroko Division who sighted the suspect, swiftly moved to the scene and caught him.
According to the police, two toy pistols and a knife were found on him, which he confessed to have been using to rob his victims.
Spokesperson for the command, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP) who confirmed the arrest, said the matter has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Sqaud (SARS) for further action

At least seven persons on Tuesday sustained serious injuries following multiple accidents that occurred in the Agege area of Lagos State.
The accidents which occurred at about 6am and 4pm around Falgbems and Dopemu respectively, were said to have been caused by the recklessness of commercial bus drivers.
While three persons sustained serious injuries at Falgbems where an articulated truck laden with a container colluded with three commercial buses, four others were said to have been injured at Dopemu.
It was gathered that the three commercial buses marked BDG 721 XJ, GGE 759 XN and KJA 25 XH which were involved in the morning accident had stopped on the road abruptly, picking passengers.
The Nation gathered that the truck with registration number AKD279XR hit one of the buses and in the cause of averting disaster, rammed into the other two.
It was learnt that road users rescued one of the injured victims and rushed the person to the hospital before the arrival of emergency workers.
The two others who were rescued by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the police were said to have been taken to the Trauma centre by the state Ambulance service for medical attention.
Confirming the accident, the General Manager LASEMA, Michael Akindele said no life was lost.
He warned motorists to avoid reckless driving and over speeding, stressing that defaulters will be arrested by relevant agencies and prosecuted.
The police in Lagos on Tuesday arrested two suspected cultists over the apprehension that occurred in Ikorodu on Monday.
They are Sunday Oteje, 24, a resident of 47, Zion Street and Monday Olatokun, 22, of Unity Road, Ajagunle both in Ikorodu.
The suspects were allegedly arrested with a cutlass each, while they, with others at large, were planning to wreak havoc in the area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP), detectives from the Owode Onirin division got an intelligence report that cultists will be unleashing mayhem on August 8.
She said the command acted on the information and intensified patrolling in the areas which led to the arrest of the suspects at about 2:20pm on the Zion street while others fled.
She stated that the suspects confessed to be cultists who were planning to strike, adding that they have been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation.
