PSquare: Peter accuses Paul of threatening wife, Lola

Nigerian Hip-hop twins, Peter and Paul Okoye of the popular PSquare group, appear to be splitting up, finally.

Peter, on Monday, gave credence to the purported tales of separation of the musical group.

In a letter written to their lawyer, Festus Keyamo, Peter is seeking to dissociate himself from the group, citing threat to life, disregard for his family and failure to honour past agreements as some of the reasons he cannot continue with the musical group.

He said although the decision to quit was a tough one, Peter noted that he has tried and exhausted all options to work things out, but that Paul is not willing to cooperate.

“For example, he cancelled our U.S. tour without discussing it with me. Unknown to me, he cancelled each show as we were being booked. He has also been accusing and threatening my wife and family of unimaginable lies via social media outlets. Me and my wife have been getting different threatening messages. I fear for my life and the life of my family. I cannot continue with PSquare in conditions like this that will jeopardize my wellbeing,” he stated.

He also recalls an incident where the group’s manager and their elder brother Jude threatened to kill him and shoot his wife in the presence of Paul and Mrs Imoke (former First Lady of Cross River State).

“He repeated it several times in front of you and other individuals. Last year at your office, he threatened me to come with my coffin whenever he sees me around his house. He stood up and hit me in front of you and the other lawyers. I have documented video of when this moment occurred and I have played it for you. One thing for sure, we are family first before PSquare,” he said.

Peter recalls how last year, they put aside their differences to appease the fans, even though there were still unresolved issues on ground and the other parties failed to honour their own end of the deal.

“I wish Jude and Paul the best in their careers. I love them and their families, but my family too is important and I cannot betray my wife and kids. My family comes first. There have been so many threats against me and my family and it’s in the best interest of me and my family to remove myself from this contract,” he said.

While many thought that the rift between the brothers had been finally put to rest, the news of their separation went viral on the Social media recently after Peter posted a Snapchat video revealing that he is in Philadelphia on his own for a solo show – without his twin brother, Paul.

“My name is Mr P,” Peter said “As from today, guess what? It’s show time, I’m about to go on stage.”

This post came days after his brother, Paul wrote on Instagram saying; “Only a woman can come where there’s peace and destroy it”.

    Peter Okoye splits from Psquare

Nigerian Hip-hop twins, Peter and Paul Okoye of the popular stage name Psquare, that dominated the Nigerian music industry for many years, have finally split up.

This current spat is in relation to a disagreement in 2014, which occurred between the duo before the release of their studio album, “Double Trouble.”

Peter own’s side of this divide was based on the managerial capacities of Jude Okoye, whom Peter wanted to step down at the time.

According to a letter sent to their lawyer Festus Keyamo (SAN) by Peter, he demanded for a termination of the agreement as a group.

A copy of the letter was released to some media outlets on Monday, Peter based his decision on some serious allegations against his twin Paul and Jude their older brother and manager.

He accused Paul of no longer willing to co-operate with him, and even gone as far as cancelling their scheduled music tour to the United States.

He added that Paul was also slandering his wife and children with lies on social media, and alleged that his family was being threatened with threat messages.

Peter further accused his older brother Jude of once threatening to kill him and shoot his wife Lola.

Peter stressed that he was tired of the “drama” and all he wanted was opting out of the Psquare group and contract.

Social media was set on fire after Peter posted a Snapchat video revealing that he is in Philadelphia on his own for a solo show – without his twin brother, Paul.

“My name is Mr P,” Peter said “As from today, guess what? It’s show time, I’m about to go on stage.”

This post came days after his brother, Paul wrote on instagram saying; “Only a woman can come where there’s peace and destroy it”.

The Okoye brothers have been engulfed in war of words on the social media in recent times, and this development has confirmed rumours that there have been strains in their relationship.

  • Peter Okoye, brother at war again?

Peter Okoye, brother at war again?

AT times, familiarity breeds communion. At other times, it breeds contempt. That, in a nutshell, is the picture of the relationship between the R&B duo called Psquare. Theirs have been periods of progress interrupted by those of strife. The latest gist in town is that the relationship between the enterprising double acts is once again headed for the rocks, following a sequence of exchanges on the social media which seemed to hint that all is not well between them.

It will be recalled that Paul Okoye and Peter, his brother who burst onto the music scene as Psquare with their hit album, Get Squared, in 2005, fell out with each other in 2015, leading them to briefly embark on solo careers as “Rude Boy” and Mr P”. Mediation from their brother, Jude, as well as pressure from fans and good old common sense, however, prevailed and the two reunited.

News that the two are once again at each other’s throat has spread like wildfire through the entertainment scene. Paul, whose wife recently gave birth to a set of twins in the USA, had posted a message directed at an unnamed woman to steer clear of the group, only for Peter to swiftly respond with what some consider an oblique defence of the said woman. It is no news that Peter’s wife, Lola Omotayo, was a factor in their earlier fallout.

Psquare, whose best-selling album, Game Over, has sold eight million copies, have since cancelled their much-anticipated tour of Canada, fuelling speculations of a cold war between the two.
