Psquare is still together, says Peter Okoye

Following what is being perceived as a split of Africa’s biggest singing duo, P-Square, one half of the group, Peter Okoye has said that they will still do projects together. This is against the backdrop of many of their fans urging the twin brothers to come back together as Psquare.

Explaining on his Instagram page last Saturday, Peter noted that henceforth, they would have separate music-managers as he would no longer have anything to do with elder brother, Jude Engees.

Peter further stated that there’s nothing wrong in doing separate projects while still being together as P-Square.

“For public record, I don’t have any issues with my brother Paul the only issue I have is with the management which I have disassociated myself with. There is a clear line between family and business, Jude still remains my brother; he is just no longer my manager. For the record also, Psquare still remains, the only difference is that we are under separate managements and there is nothing wrong with that. I see no wrong in doing separate projects and still being together as Psquare,” Peter wrote.

He also accused his brother of being the first to go solo, stating; “You went solo first by releasing a song with ‘Tiwa’ and your new artists. This doesn’t stop us from producing good music together or giving our fans the best of Psquare, its just time for personal development. I am not against Rudeboy Records, Northside Entertainment and wish you the very best.”

And as if solidifying his commitment to remaining Psquare, Peter also posted a notice of show on his Instagram page, stating; ‘Psquare live in Rotterdam Netherland Saturday 26th March. Be there or be squared. It’s Gonna rock!@palmundoworld #festival.’

Meanwhile, his brother Paul has extended an arm of appeal, calling on Peter to bury the hatchet.

“All you all want is Psquare, all I want is family, love and care!!! Social media is the new root of all evil!! There’s family before Psquare and there will always be family after Psquare. Jude was only a scapegoat and a victim; the person who has been keeping us together for all these years. The truth is Peter and Paul have issues,” he noted.

Paul further apologised to his twin brother for the issues they may have had, urging him to forgive and forget.

“Dear brother am begging you even if you dont want Jude anymore and you dont want Psquare, u re forever going to be my brother. But I wish the three of us could still do these together, bcos its a thing of joy, people love us so much not only because of our good music but seeing brothers doing it together and keeping it together, setting a good example to other families and to our kids,” he added.

  • Why PSquare may not return as Glo ambassadors

Why PSquare may not return as Glo ambassadors

AS the management of Telecommunication Company, Globacom, is currently meeting on possible renewal of all Glo ambassadors, there are indications that PSquare may not be returned, unless they embark on serious begging like D’banj who, at some point in the past, fell out with the CEO of the company, Mr. Wale Adenuga.

The issue may not be unconnected with the recent controversy surrounding the personal lives of the twins and their elder brother and manager, Jude Okoye, but the attitude of Peter, one-half of the group, during the grand finale of Dance With Peter, a dance reality show anchored by Peter. Sources say that Mr. Adenuga and top officers of the company are not happy with the reaction of Peter who brought in Akon for the final show last year but insisted the visiting artist be paid about $50, 000 for participating as a juror and performer at the show without prior contract.

A source at Glo said although Akon’s presence added verve to the show, the arrangement was not backed by any contract and Peter couldn’t stampede the company into making such a last minute payment.

The two year contract of most of the ambassadors will expire in a few months’ time, save for the Mavin Crew who were brought into the deal only last year.

Psquare on war path with brother, Jude Okoye

Few years back when the Okoye’s got embroiled in an internal feud, many thought the issue was dead and buried. It appears they were wrong, as a fresh round of hostility ensued Tuesday.

While the initial ‘beef’ bordered on a purported split. This time, Peter, one of the twins, is claiming that he will no longer do business with their elder brother and manager, Jude.

Peter  noted that although he has issues with Jude, he remains loyal to his singing partner and twin brother, Paul.

He said via his Twitter handle: “I don’t have a problem with Paul but the management. My loyalty for Psquare and the fans still remains 100%. A manager is been employed by the artiste not the other way round. #truthBeTold,” he explained in a series of tweets.

The singer also issued a disclaimer stating that whoever does business with North Side Entertainment on behalf of Psquare does so at their own risk, stating that he had nursed the problem for four years and was fed up.

“Please, who so ever makes any transaction with North Side Entertainment or Jude Okoye on P-square’s behalf does so at their own risk. #warning. Family business can be a pain in the a$$,” he further tweeted.

Reacting to his younger brother’s rants, Jude Okoye, Wednesday morning, pleaded with fans to pray for Peter as, saying only God could rescue him.

Apparently irked by Jude’s comment, Peter replied; “You said I need prayers! Bro you need GOD!”

He also insists that Psquare is not breaking up, while justifying his decision to make it a social media affair.

“Some ask why on social media. Do I have a choice! Insisting you must remain Psquare’s manager? And that your decision is final? #Psquare4ever,” Peter wrote.

However, his team mate, Paul, has kept mum on the issue.

  • Is this the end of Psquare?

Is this the end of Psquare?

The friction between the Nigerian R&B music duo is becoming more apparent. This sense of friction was fueled by Paul Okoye’s posts on his instagram taking credit for songs he single handedly produced for the group. Songs like “Bring It on” “Do me” “Personally” “E no easy” “No one like you”

“Psquare’s all time biggest wedding song.. Written by me…produced by me and performed by me…a very good example of an ever-green song… Years to years to come, this song will still be bumping and I know you all love it #mybest40songsofp2” he boasted on his instagram page @rudeboypsquare

“E no easy by Psquare…a wonderful song…produced by J.martinz.. Written by me performed by Psquare…some say its gospel music…. But it’s a reality of what we do as Psquare”  he continued in another post in what many saw as an attempt to salvage his reputation after the barrage of negative comments rolling in.

He beckoned on everyone not to take it personal in his final comment “Personally… presently the highest viewed video on Youtube coming from Africa. Guess who wrote and produced. Don’t take it personal”

His brother Peter on the other hand revealed a few minutes before Paul that he was building an empire.

Are the duo hinting at  breaking up or is this another publicity stunt to promote an upcoming album or their US/Canada tour?

Psquare thrills fans at CARNIRIV 2013

City of Port Harcourt stood still last week as the hip hop duo, Psquare ‘personally’ treated the fans to the best of entertainment at the opening ceremony of CARNIRIV 2013.

It was a night to remember. The adrenaline was at its peak. Expectations were high as the multi award-winning stars stormed the stage of the Liberation Stadium to the admiration of the thousands of fans that filled the 27,000 capacity stadium to its brim.

The event which was earlier declared open on the night by the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi had featured traditional dances tagged Dance of Fire Flies. The dancers, robed in their regalia showcased the rich in the culture of the oil-rich state while 10 bands which participated in the march past presented their flags to the King of the carrnival.

Those who sneaked their ways into the backstage and the few sitting close to the entrance crowded the star artistes’ convoy when it drove into the venue around 10:30 PM.

As envisaged, no sooner the MC  announced the introduction of the ‘Alingo’ crooners to the stage than the crowd who had been in anticipation went wild upon sighting their favorite artists live.

In wild jubilation garnished with sheer excitement, the crowd jostled their way as close as possible to the stage to savour the performance of the stars — there was mild shoving and pushing but was curtailed.

It’s never a dull moment when Psquare perform. There is always so much to offer and to enjoy. They don’t just sing, they are truly wonderful performers.

Being stars with a lot of hit tracks, performing for hours was never boring, the fans couldn’t just have enough of these gifted duo who have done the country proud the world over.

Every track performed on the night sent the crowd yearning for more. The choreography was top notch, their creativity acumen was second to none.

They brought not only music on stage but drama, dance, and comedy.

To spice up the performance, Paul and Peter showed their fans they do not only sing but also play instruments. Peter showed class by dancing to Usher’s track ‘You remind me’. The band was perfect, they did justice to the beat.

Peter then challenged his twin brother to show his other talents outside singing and dancing. To the amazement of the fans, Paul grabbed a base guitar and played Tupac’s ‘Do for love’ tune with no flaw which wowed the crowd. Peter would not be bemused, he also played the guitar seamlessly.

The Okoye brothers performed most of their hit tracks from the old to the most recent.

Earlier, Buckwhile one of the reigning music artistes in the region had performed a couple of his popular tracks and his single billed to be released in 2014. Among upcoming artistes that staged their performances at the initial stage of the celebration were Queen Lush, Zuril and Young.

  • Izon brothers release Iworiwo video

    Izon brothers release Iworiwo video

THEY are like Peter and Paul of PSquare fame, but James and Michael Useghan are not twins; they are brothers that have music as a common gene. Recently, they released their musical video titled Iworiwo, which has received massive airplay on broadcast stations and has had so many views on Youtube.

Because they are not twins, the duo of James and Michael Useghan are popularly called Izon by their fans and they are natives of Ondo State.

Their kind of music, they say, is a fusion of traditional and contemporary music. According to the duo, “We want to revive the Nigerian music and that was why we did a remix of the late Rex Lawson’s song, Iworiwo. Growing up as kids, our dad used to wake us up by playing the music, so we decided to do the remix in order to bring back the fond memories of when men were boys and boys were in their mother’s womb.”

Born in Ajegunle, the Izon brothers had this to say, “We grew up in Ajegunle but we were not influenced negatively and we came together to sing. Though it was a tedious thing growing up in the ghetto, we decided that we would not join but flee from them.

Some people go into music in order for them to make money but we want to carve a niche for ourselves by singing evergreen songs that will make people to appreciate good music.

“We have plans of going into collaboration with other musicians such as Tuface Idibia because it will be a combination of both Ijaw and Idoma music which will have tremendous impact on the Nigerian culture.”
