    Rangers commence screening

    Enugu Rangers have commenced screening with a view to raising a strong and viable Team B ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League  season and other competitions next season.

    The screening which began on Wednesday at the training pitch of the Rangers permanent camp at the Independence Layout, Enugu near the Sports Council Complex has witnessed the influx of players from within and outside the state who have come with the objective of warming themselves into the hearts of the Enugu side’s B team technical crew.

    The club’s director of media and publicity, Foster Chime disclosed that the head coach of the B team Ndubuisi Ajomiwe and those assisting him have promised to be as transparent as possible to ensure that the best talents emerge from the tedious screening exercises.

    Chime told Goal: “The screening exercise will cut across all age strata and it will afford skillful players and youths in Enugu and beyond the singular opportunity of displaying their talents as well as play their way into the main team if they are exceptional.

    “The exercise will last for three weeks to ensure that everyone present is given the benefit of doubt and opportunity to play to his full potentials.”

    Rangers to embark on West African tour

    Champions Enugu Rangers are to tour some West African countries ahead of the new Nigeria league season and next year’s CAF Champions League.

    Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo said the club plan to visit Mali and Cote d’Ivoire to prepare for the new season.

    “We are going on a training tour of some west coast countries and soon the date for the team’s departure will be announced,” he said.

    The coach said he was happy with the healthy competition in the team’s pre-season training camp in Benin City.

    “The boys are adapting to the training and I strongly believe in competition as I foreseen serious competition among the players as the new players are ready to give the old players a fight for shirt,” he reported.

    “The new players will be announced as soon as possible after we have finalised their clearance. I can also tell you that we have two foreigners again who has joined up with us in the camp in Benin. Last season we have six foreigners.”

    Rangers will deliver just like last season, says Madu

    Chibuzor Madu, has vowed that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) defending champions will be much more stronger in the next campaign.

    The Flying Antelopes are currently in Benin City for their pre-season training programme.

    “All the old players have resumed and the new ones are here also.We are really working hard and getting ready for the big task ahead of us.”

    “The atmosphere in camp has been  wonderful.. Rangers is a club with ambition and the major step is to have a perfect pre-season and be ready for what the new campaign has in stock for us,” the former Enyimba FC defender told Goal.

    Despite the huge expectation on the shoulder of Enugu Rangers, the experienced defender believes the team will deliver in all competitions.

    “We know that every team will want to play with all what they have got when facing us. But it’s normal and I believe we will deliver because we have what it takes when it comes to quality players and coaches. No doubt we will definitely deliver as we did last season. The team will be competing in the NPFL, CAF Champions League and the Federation Cup. Our hope is at the highest ebb for we understand the battle ahead of us.”

    Fatai Amoo named new 3SC Technical Adviser

    The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan has appointed Dream Team VI assistant coach, Fatai Amoo as technical adviser on a two-year deal ahead of Ibadan ahead of 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

    The former Sunshine Stars of Akure coach was unveiled today at the office of the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Abayomi Oke.

    Amoo who took over from Gbenga Ogunbote is expected to commence work immediately.

    The former Julius Berger FC of Lagos gaffer said he is very excited to return home as he assured the team’s fans that he would work to make the team great again in the continent.

    “I’m back home and I feel very comfortable being in Ibadan,” Amoo revealed. “I’m very excited being appointed as Technical Adviser of 3SC as I don’t really have the fear because I know the terrain.”

    “I’m ready to work with my coaching crew, they are very good people because we know each other very well and I believe we will get things right. I want to make name for myself and 3SC.”

    He added: “I have travelled a little and wherever I get to they, always ask for Shooting Stars and Rangers and that tells 3SC is a big club and we must make it great again. I am ready to take up the task and by the grace of God, we will conquer,” he said.

    In his message, Barrister Oke said he was very pleased with the appointment of coach Amoo.

    “He signed two years deal with us and we are very happy. On our side, the welfare of the team will be paramount,” he said.

    Enugu Rangers’ head  coach, Imama Amapakabo has met with the Board of the Flying Antelopes and some officials of the club to intimate them about his programme for next season in the league and CAF Champions League.

    The meeting was not concluded on Friday but Amapakabo was told to come back on Monday so that the Board could finalise his programme and for the Enugu side to proceed on a training camp to Benin, the Edo State capital on Friday.

    Rangers secured their first league title in 32 years last season and the team had their build up to the last season in Benin same place they are trying to visit once more to get the proper shape for the next soccer season.

    Rangers’ Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime told SportingLife that Imama was with the Board on Friday where some far reaching decisions were taken including looking through the programme submitted by the head coach ahead of next season.

    He said Imama is expected back with the Enugu Board today to finalise the club’s programme ahead of the new campaign.

    Niger Tornadoes left back, Gabriel Wassa is one of the most sought after players in the Nigeria league as he is being pursued by Rivers United, Rangers, Enyimba as well as FC IfeanyiUbah.

    Wassa, who has already negotiated personal terms with Rivers United, might be tempted to go to Rangers as Enyimba and IfeanyiUbah are also not left out of the scramble for him.

    “I am still a Tornadoes player pending when I will sign the dotted lines,” he said.

    This past season was the first season of Wassa, a graduate of non-league side Niger United, in the top-flight league.

    Enugu Rangers’ Madu Christian has declared that his team will be gunning for more next term.

    The Flying Antelopes broke a 32-year jinx by winning the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.

    “A lot of people will be expecting great things from us in the next campaign.We are up to the challenge of striving higher,” Madu told Goal.

    “In life one aspires to be better in whatever he does. Ours shouldn’t be different. With God on our side. We will be fine and good to go.

    “It hasn’t really been a good one for Nigerian clubs on the continent. We have big plans  for the club competition.

    “It is not just about the Champions League but also the NPFL and the Federation Cup. Next season will bring us better fortunes in terms of silverware.”

    Rangers target Zambia World Cup stars for Champions League – Imama

    Nigeria champions, Rangers have listed two Zambia World Cup stars as well as players from Cote d’Ivoire and Benin Republic ahead of next year’s CAF Champions League.

    Coach Imama Amapakabo  disclosed that Rangers are already in contact with two Zambians, who played against Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month as well as two Ivorians, whose experience on the continent will be needed.

    “We are also targeting a Benin Republic international whose name I don’t want to disclose yet to boost the squad we have on ground,” Imama added.

    “We are equally working relentlessly to ensure that we keep our best players.

    “As I speak, I am on my way to Enugu to submit my contract papers and discuss with the management on how we can start negotiating with clubs about the players needed for the CAF Champions League.

    “We will give it our best to represent the country and prove that Rangers are worthy champions of Nigeria.”

    Enugu gov. hosts Rangers Dec. 19-21

    Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will host the victorious players and officials of Rangers between December 19 and 21, officials have disclosed.

    According to the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Charles Ndukwe, these dates are to allow stakeholders and well wishers from home and abroad be part of the celebrations.

    The government is expected to reward the team for this achievement.

    Rangers were crowned Nigeria league champions on October 2 after they last won a major trophy in 1984.

    Rangers assure Imama’s contract papers ready

    Top Rangers officials have assured coach Imama Amapakabo’s contract papers will be finalised for him to sign a new and improved two-year contract this week.

    Rangers general manager, Paul Chibuzor disclosed: “We finished the documentation(for Imama’s contract) yesterday (Monday) and we hope to finalise it today.”

    Acting Rangers ,Steve Oruruo confirmed the young coach is already committed to ‘The Flying Antelope’.

    “The most important thing is that we have agreed with Imama, he is staying put at Rangers,” Oruruo maintained.

    Championship-winning coach Imama has continued to be linked with several top clubs including Kano Pillars and Akwa United.
