‘We ’ll double youth employment under Aregbesola’s second term’

OSUN State All Progressives Congress (APC) will not relent in providing more jobs for youths as well as take transformational programme across the state, if Governor Rauf Aregbesola wins August 9 election.

The Deputy Director, the State Bureau of Communication, Mr. Sola Fasure, who spoke to The Nation in Lagos, explained that the APC-led administration plans to create more jobs through self-empowerment programme.

Fasure said the government engaged about 20,000 youths in the last three and half years, adding that a new mandate for the governor would take no fewer than 20,000 more youths off the streets.

The deputy director expressed satisfaction that Aregbesola would remain “popular because he is a grassroots’ governor.”

His word: “If it is about stomach infrastructure, Governor Aregbesola has put in place stomach infrastructure in the state. You will recall that for almost three years now, he puts in place an O’meal programme, whereby primary school pupils are being fed, the aged are being catered for and the youths being engaged.

“The programme is so successful that the British parliament sent a delegation to know about it, with the intension of recommending it to other states in Nigeria.”

Fasure added that government would complete the construction of ongoing roads and undertake new ones to make the state accessible from all parts.

He added that the construction of the airport would open the state to local and international businesses, making Osun the new business hub of the Southwest.

He said the state’s growing agricultural skill would be harness to conveniently feed the people and export to other states that are in short supply of agricultural produce.

Fasure also noted that the effort would make impact in other sectors.

“If you develop agriculture, the processing industries will develop around such environment. So, if you set up one industry, this may lead to the emergence of other 10 industries.

“Already, the construction of the airports is nearing completion; the super highways are advancing simultaneously. We are going to take our education to a higher level,” he said.

  • Aregbesola not wooing workers with salaries

Aregbesola not wooing workers with salaries

SIR: Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State recently paid the outstanding salaries of workers in the state. This was received with joy and much commendation by the workers who appreciated this as a product of great financial engineering, knowing that the monthly allocation to the state from the federation account had dropped by 40 per cent since last year. However, a section of the media, reported this as the governor wooing workers.

The slant of the story is disturbing and betrays a poor professional judgement, not just in being speculative and tendentious, but in portraying opinion as news.

Workers in the state were owed May salary, but this was in late June. However, as soon as the cheque from the federation account allocation cleared on Tuesday June 24, salaries were paid and workers started receiving alerts from their banks that very moment.

Pray, how then does that translate into wooing? Is payment of salaries not a statutory responsibility? When an employer pays its workers, does that amount to wooing them?

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has been ‘wooing’ the workers since December 2010 when it gave them 25 per cent of their salary as 13th month bonus, which has never happened in the state. He progressively increased the percentage every year until December 2013 when he gave them 100 per cent as bonus. He has given workers in the state housing loans and, earlier this year, car loans. He has restored foreign training trips to the senior cadre which had been suspended more than 15 years ago.

These are what wooed the workers, not paying salaries. The tendentious report of wooing workers with salaries is innocuous except that it was done with the intention of portraying the governor as using salaries as campaign instrument; that he has only paid salaries because of the impending election, or else, he would not have paid them at all.

A newspaper as an organisation, can take sides, but as professionals, let us stick to the facts and not pass opinion as news.

    Aregbesola inaugurates multi-billion Ayegbaju market

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola inaugurated yesterday the first and second phases of the multi-billion naira Ayegbaju International market located in Osogbo, the state capital.

The project is comprised of three phases. The third phase will have a three-star hotel, a mega shopping mall and cinema.

Addressing the huge crowd of top politicians and traders who filled one of the parking lots of the sprawling complex, the governor said the successful construction of the market was a testimony that his administration’s less than four years rule could not be compared with the seven-and-a-half-year of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Aregbesola said he was happy that the people appreciated his government for its development projects, saying that enough was a motivation for him to do a lot more.

The Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Ajibola Basiru, praised Aregbesola for his visionary leadership.

He said: “May I unequivocally state that in Nigeria today, true leadership has been clearly defined in the personage, tact, intelligence and patriotism of this astute administrator, visionary leader, society builder and action governor. For no time in the history of Osun has the structural and social transformation of the state been attended to with such zeal and passion as that of our most respected Atunlise governor.”

APC seeks probe of suspected thugs for alleged threat to peace

THE All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, has alerted security agents to an alleged threat to peace by some suspected thugs who were destroying posters and billboards of  its governorship candidate, Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

It said the thugs were increasingly becoming a threat to peace as the August 9 governorship poll approaches.

According to a statement by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, information at the party’s disposal from Ilesha showed “senseless act of vandalism by the thugs, who were on rampage, ripping posters and destroying billboards of the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

“We like to believe that these vandals are acting purely out of criminal disposition; which is why we are bringing this incident to the notice of all security apparatus in the state, so that something should be done quickly before a wrong message permeates society that the vandals are protected.

“Pulling down billboards and ripping off posters of political opponents are not part of democracy or law and orders. The people are now wondering what kind of security cover these thugs have to operate as they do.

“These thugs endanger law and order and give the impression of a reign of lawlessness in spite of security agencies. This is a potential tragedy that law enforcement agencies should not tolerate. The thugs must be called to order; but if they persist in their crime, then they must be brought to justice.”

The party, therefore, appealed to the security agencies to act fast before there is break down of law and order.

  • New roads for Ifedayo, Ila

    New roads for Ifedayo, Ila

Osun State Government has approved the construction of Oke-Ila-Ayegunle-Ikoro-Asaba roads in Ifedayo and Ila Local Government Areas.

The Chairman, Re-election Campaign Committee of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Sunday Akere, who revealed this during a campaign tour of the communities, said the roads would bring succour to farmers in the rural areas when completed.

Akere told the people at Ajebamidele, Oyi-Ayegunle, Obasikin, Adion, Asa-Oye and Aba Legemo that their welfare was upper most in the mind of the governor.

According to Akere, apart from these roads, the governor has approved another three kilometres for lawmakers in the State House of Assembly for their constituencies.

He added that roads in Ifedayo Local Government are scheduled to cover Ayegunle through Obasikin to Ajebamidele.

The commissioner said the state government understood the plight of rural dwellers, which he noted are predominant farmers, in getting their farm produce to markets.

He added that good roads enhance the price value of farm produce and reduce waste since farmers will get their produce to the market early.

Akere told the people that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, who was also on his entourage, was taking note of some communities in the area that need maternity centres. He promised that the facilities would be provided.

According to committee chairman, the rural areas are important to the governor because of his drive to develop the state’s economy through massive agricultural programme.

He added that the state government would not relent in providing more infrastructural facilities to enhance their contribution to the state’s economic growth.

The heads of the communities acknowledged the governor’s performance in all sectors.

However, they requested for the extension of good roads to their communities, which according to them, is the major way of impacting on their farm activities.

They also requested for extension of mobile service to Ayegunle, Ajebamidele and Adion to enable them communicate effectively with their relatives and customers in the cities.

  • ‘No vacancy in Bola Ige House’

‘No vacancy in Bola Ige House’

Osun State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Tourism and Culture Hon. Sikiru Adetona-Ayedun spoke with reporters in Osogbo, the state capital, on the second term ambition  of Governor Rauf Aregbesola and other partisan issues. Excerpts:

What is the chance of the APC in the governorship election?

You can even see it yourself. With the transformation that we have done in Osun in the last three and half years, it is obvious that ours is a government of the people for the people. These can be seen in all our programmes and activities. Today, this is the state that we have Opon Imo. We have uniforms for all our students. We have transformed our educational infrastructures, we have good roads now and we are generating wealth. Our hospitals have been upgraded for the benefit of the down trodden masses. With all these achievements I believe that no candidate can match Ogbeni. I believe that by August 9 the mandate will be renewed.

The PDP candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, is from your ward in Ile-Ife. What is the possibility that you would deliver your constituency during the election?

Yes, he is from my ward. In 2011, he even lost in our ward. Whatever they are telling you outside is just grandstanding. The only thing they believe is violence. We don’t believe in violence; we know our people and they know that we are working for them. This is a warning signal to them that they should not waste their resources and time.

They should not introduce violence into the election. We are propagating our own programmes and manifestoes, they should also come up with their own and let the people do the comparism. They should compare their own Osun of seven and half years to our own Osun of three and half years.

I know that this is period of returns. An adages says “one good turn deserves another.“ The government of Osun has done a lot for my people in Ile-Ife, so in whatever way we are looking at it, we want this development to continue. That is why we are working seriously to make sure that, we will not only win, but convincingly in all ramifications. What is on the ground now, in terms of the infrastructural development in Ile-Ife has so much endeared the people to Governor Aregbesola and our party. They believe any government that has done this much must be supported. I can tell you categorically, that the people of Ife are for Aregbesola and they will support him to rule beyond 2014.

What is your reaction to the call for the transfer of the Resident Electoral Commissioner?

I would say that they are just caterwauling. What has Akeju done wrong? Is it because he refused to do their bidding?  Is that the reason why they are running after him? What has he done in the past elections that showed that he was tilting towards a particular party?

We had one man one vote and the opposition parties suffered an all-round defeat. Is it because they want him to upturn the result and he refused? Is that the reason? We need to ask them. The only unsubstantiated reason they have been parading around is that Akeju is related to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  Who has established that? What is the linkage that has established that? They are already afraid of the defeat that is awaiting for them at the polls.

Going back to Ile-Ife, a politician there said he wants to become the governor of the State of Osun, let me tell you, he has no capacity to be a state governor, the charisma is not there at all. We are from the same place, but the level that Osun has attained in the last three and half years requires a person with good brainwave, a focused leader, not a mere rabble-rouser who cannot comprehend the complex nature of governance in our state.

Tourism industry in the state of Osun is experiencing a turn around. What really is the magic wand?

The magic wand concerning turn around in Osun is nothing other than our desire to turn Osun to one of the tourism hubs in Nigeria. We are leveraging on the fact that the state is the cultural centre of Yoruba nation and the custodian of Yoruba culture and cultural artifacts of Yoruba land. Also, the turnaround is an integral part of six master plan of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola to develop State of Osun. The aim of the government is to banish poverty and hunger, to create wealth, to provide qualitative education. All we have been doing is executing the master plan of the governor. In the first instance, I will attribute the prevailing atmosphere of peace and security in the state as one of the factors responsible for the growth of the hospitality industry here. Again, the Aregbesola administration has been busy opening up the state through massive development of road infrastructure, education and health. These are some of the things responsible for the growth of the hospitality and tourism industry in the state. We are well aware that there is no one that needed to carry out a transaction that would not need a befitting place to do so. And that is why we pay attention to regulation of standards in the hospitality business, so as to make it more attractive to tourists, visitors and would-be investors alike. I believe our commitment and intervention to make the industry competitive is responsible for the growth in the industry.

Can you tell us some of the innovations that you have brought in so far?

In turning around most of our historical sites, we have done a stadium-like podium at Osun Osogbo groove. If you go to Olumere, we have constructed a stair case to take visitors to the second level of the water base. The artists are working on how to get the best for Olumere and to have the opportunity to stay overnight there. We are also working on the statue of Oduduwa and Opa Oranyan at Ile-Ife. We have also attracted attention and patronage for Osun Osogbo and Olojo festivals that every year everybody look up to the festivals. As a focused government, we have divided our tourism agenda into four broad areas:

“We have the socio-religious, religious, socio-traditional and eco-tourism. All these are investor attractive and the main one is socio-traditional because the State of Osun is the cultural melting pot of the Yorubas and the Diaspora Yoruba always want to associate with the state. All our brothers and sisters in diaspora want to have the touch with home, and you know developing our socio-cultural identity would attract them whenever they visit the country and the state.

Is there a synergy between the private sector and government on tourism in the state?

We are expecting them to come and collaborate with us in what we can call public private partnership. We have been having a lot of meetings and dialogues with the owners and operators of these hospitality outfits, with a view to setting a standard for their operation, so as to guarantee maximum comfort for their guests. Also, we are making the environment conducive for them to do business without stress. But we still want to have a touch on all these sites before we start looking for partners.

As the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Home Affairs, how do you manage the balance between religion and culture?

Being the commissioner, everybody knows it is a public office in which you have opportunities to manage different types of people. The constitution of Nigeria says that governance should deal with all citizens of the state, irrespective of their religion or educational background or social background. In this case, since we know that Osun is the centre of the Yoruba nation, we recognize all the religion in the state. We know that we have traditionalists, Christians and Muslims also. We believe that religion exists while culture exists as well. There is no contradiction. We are very clear in our stand on religion and culture. We are convinced that our rich cultural heritage should not be jettisoned because of religion. There is the need for constant re-awakening by putting on the front burner the search for who we are as a people. The beauty of the whole thing is that we have a culture that thrives on integrity, uprightness, industry, good communal living, and a well established system of punishment for the erring ones in the society. It is sad that when foreign religions came, we started to cast aspersion on our culture to the point of seeing it as diabolical.

What is the government doing to ensure that Yoruba language is not fading out among students and the younger generation?

We know that our culture, if you want to go by civilization due to colonization, is non negotiable. In the APC controlled states in the Southwest it is compulsory for students to study Yoruba Language, History and Civics from primary one to the secondary level, so that they will be able to speak their language, know their origin and their background.

In view of the meagre resources of the state, coupled with the sharp drop in the statutory allocation accruing to Osun, how are you coping, in terms of sustaining the administration’s tourism agenda?

All of us in this administration right from governor down are working to keep a lasting legacy. Yes, there is a meagre resources, but whatever development that you are seeing today was achieved through financial engineering. When the money comes the application matter a lot.

  • Don’t be intimidated by soldiers, Aregbesola tells supporters

Don’t be intimidated by soldiers, Aregbesola tells supporters

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has told his supporters not to be intimidated by the presence of soldiers, policemen and other security agents at polling centres during the August 9 governorship election.

At his campaign rally in Iwo, Aregbesola said soldiers have no right to send the electorate away during elections, adding: “If soldiers attempt to shoot you, do not run away from them. They cannot kill all of you. Do not leave the polling centres until the election results are announced. Do not be intimidated by the opposition.”

The governor said the election would determine the state’s fate for another four years, urging his supporters to come out en masse to vote on August 9.

His deputy, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori; All Progressives Congress (APC) Interim Chairman Elder Adelowo Adebiyi and former Governor Isiaka Adeleke, among other APC chieftains, spoke at the rally.

They said Aregbesola had transformed all sectors of the economy and urged the people to give him an opportunity to continue “the good work”.

Some APC youths had a brawl with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, who allegedly tried to disrupt the rally.

  • A popularity ride in Ile-Ife

    A popularity ride in Ile-Ife

The Ile Ife, Osogbo and Ikire ecstatic campaign crowds have established the massive support Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola enjoys across the state, writes Adekunle Owolabi

The return of the mythical Oranmiyan to Ile-Ife, the scradele of Yoruba, could not have been a strange thing, given the well-known Yoruba mythology. Perhaps, this was what made the flag off of the re-election campaigns of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the symbol of the Oranmiyan phenomenon an electrifying event.

It a political funfare.  It was a celebration of a political figure ,who symbolizes the new thinking and perspective in political re-ordering. The Ife Federal Constituency re-election campaign brought the Ooni Okunade Sijuwade’s Ile Ife to a standstill .

The huge crowd of supporters showed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenger,  Senator Iyiola Omisore, who hails from the ancient city, is really no match for the governor.

The town was agog. From the main entry point through the popular Lagere Road, to Enuwa, the palace of  Oba  Sijuwade, people poured into the street in thousands to welcome the campaign train. For six hours, Ile-Ife stood still for the ACN governorship candidate.

The first point of call was the palace where Aregbesola was received and regaled in a grand manner typical of the demonstration of Ooni’s majesty.

The significance of Aregbesola’s straight journey to the palace was not lost on the people. The monarch’s Iwure (royal blessing) and endorsement that followed put paid to all insinuations that given the fact that the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate is of the Ife stock, the royal father of the city might be tempted to blindly throw his weight behind one of his subjects who is eyeing the same position.

But not only did the Ooni pray for Aregbesola, his words were believed to be profound enough attestation to the royal support he is poised to offer to the governor, whose sterling performance he affirmed.

In his remark, the first class monarch said election is not a do-or-die affairs but only a civil exercise to choose those whom the people want to lead them.

In a passionate prayerful mood that appears to have jolted the opposition, the influential royal father had said in Yoruba, “Olorun to fi e s’ibe ko de ni mu e kuro” (meaning God that enthroned you will ensure your continuity in office).

He also said: “All you have been doing are not for yourself or for your people. You are striving for the good of the entire Yoruba race, for the country. God will always be with you.”

Ooni said he had called a meeting of all politicians in the town and cautioned them to conduct themselves in the peaceful manner devoid of bloodshed.

The monarch commended Aregbe-sola for his numerous achievements in all sectors of governance.

“As royal father to all, I can only tell the politicians to conduct themselves in the accepted manner and play according to the electoral rules.

“Election is just a routine through which people elect those they want to rule them.

“Therefore, election is not synonymous with bloodshed. This is why I cautioned all politicians to eschew violence before, during and after the election,” Ooni said.

Armed with the royal blessing, Aregbesola’s campaign train had left the palace snaking through the city on its way to the campaign ground at the Ile Ife Technical School playground.

Expectedly, commercial activities came to an end; traffic movement slowly wound to a halt. Left, right and centre, people radiated happiness as they saw a leader, who, for close to four years now, has busied himself with how his people would live better and qualitative lives different from the lives of hopelessness they had been subjected to in the years past.

At the campaign ground, speakers after speakers x-rayed the performance of Aregbesola, which they said is uncommon, unrivalled and unarguably unassailable at the moment.

Senators Jide Omoworare, in whose had Omisore had suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2011 National Assembly election, in the Osun East senatorial District and Professor Sola Adeyeye, representing the Osun Central senatorial District, said Omisore has no mental capacity to serve the state.

The lawmakers averred that the job of administering the state is enormous and Omisore is unprepared and lacks the know-how to rule the state.

“Ogbeni Aregbesola is God-sent to the people of Osun. In just a single term of four years, this wonderful man transformed the state positively.

“The truth of the matter is that Omisore has no mental capacity to govern this state.

“As senator, Omisore cannot point to anything beneficial he has done for Ile-Ife not to talk of Osun.

“What has he brought to his town, his state from his much-touted mainstream politics?” the lawmaker said advising the people to vote wisely by voting for Aregbesola’s continuity in office.

In what has become characteristic of his campaigns, Aregbesola undoubtedly stirred the crowd by simply telling them what his administration had done since his assumption of office.

According to the governor, seeking re-election is to perfect the establishment of genuine and credible leadership that only aims at delivery of service to the people in the state.

He said though electoral fraudsters stole his mandate in 2007 warning that the shenanigans of 2007 would not happen again in the history of Osun politics.

Aregbesola also remembered 12 innocent people, who were killed in their bid to prevent rigging in their constituencies saying never again would violence against the people be allowed in any part of Osun.

Aregbesola’s emphasis against violence was understandable. Not only were members of his party killed in 2007, no fewer than another six were brutally murdered on the eve of the National Assembly election in 2011.

For a man who hinges his bid for second term on his scorecard for the first opportunity to serve, Aregbesola reeled out his administration’s achievements in the Ife Federal Constituency thus: “We have touched lives in all facets of human endeavours.

“In the constituency we have constructed more the 50km of intra-city roads; built six new schools, several boreholes, distributed 1, 473 pieces of Opon Imo tablets to high school students.

“This is in addition to ensuring adequate security by providing necessary equipment to security agencies, provision of health care facilities as well as monthly welfare package for vulnerable elders under the Agba Osun  Scheme.

“All these we have done and are doing. While we want a second term is to consolidate on all these achievements as well as lay down a solid foundation for credible governance,” Aregbesola said.

The intimidating crowd in Ife seems to have sent signals to many quarters. From then, the wave of defections to the APC has increased. While many are still believed to be on their way perfecting their defection strategies, former Governor of the State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke formally boosted the rank of the APC with his defection on Saturday May 31, when he led thousands of his supporters to the APC.

Adeleke was given a grand reception at the state capital where Governor Aregbesola and his Ekiti counterpart, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande were on hand to receive the new political bride.

Addressing the gathering at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Square, Osogbo, Adeleke said he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because he does not want a mediocre to take over from a performing governor so as to avoid dragging the hand of the clock of progress backward.

Adeleke said: “I am happy to be with the progressive. I was a governor under Social Democratic Party (SDP), which was a progressive party.

“I was involved in the struggle for the actualisation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. I cannot work for a thug to become the next governor of the state.”

It was this streak that blazed down to Ikire on last week when the campaign train berthed at Isokan/Ayedade/Irewole Federal Constituency.

As is the tradition, the Governor first paid homage to the traditional ruler of the town, Akire of Ikire, His Royal Highness, Oba Olatunde Falabi, who commended the governor for what he described as a revolutionary touch in the state.

Oba Falabi said the people did not need a soothsayer to tell them that the government of APC has brought huge development to the state in the past three and half years.

Falabi would not see any need to change what he called winning team in the affairs of Osun.

“You have done very well in your first term. We did not need another person to tell us that.

“We can see the development with our very eyes. We can see the transformation of the state all around us.

“In fact, you have been doing the job as if your life depends on it. With this achievement, your second term is guaranteed,” Akire said.

A leader of the party and one-time PDP chieftain and Chief of Staff to Oyinlola , Elder Peter Babalola,  said the PDP, in its seven and half years in government, performed abysmally.

Babalola averred that the poor performance of PDP was exposed when in just a single term of almost four years, Aregbesola changed the face of the state.

He noted that his own constituency, Isokan-Irewole-Ayedaade Federal constituency benefitted immensely from Aregbesola’s positive transformation saying “Today, my constituency is better than when the PDP and I were in power.

“In fact, government projects in my federal constituency are countless and the people can attest to that. So we have benefitted from APC government of Aregbesola.”

Roads leading to the campaign ground came out in different colours as multiple social and political groups, professional groups, artisans resplendent in colourful attires lined the route to add glamour to the scene.

On the left side of the route you would see an aged woman shaking her fragile frame to the rhythm of entertaining beats. At the other side of the road, you would see an excited baby at the back his mother looking innocently but quite conscious something unusual was happening in the environment. Down another road you would see a bike rider displaying his dexterity and mastery of the machine on the road. Another time you would a young man in acrobatic display all in excited display of love for the man they are convinced has brought meaning to their lives.

A middle aged woman, confounded by the motley crowd, preened here and there, telling bystanders in local dialect “Aregbe ni jare; e je a gba f’olohun’ meaning ‘It is Aregbe. Let us just accept that this man is God-sent.

The roadshow train later arrived at St. John’s Primary School playground Ikire, which had already been filled to the brim.

It was this gathering that Senator Isiaka Adeleke, addressed, telling them to allow the incumbent governor to continue his positive transformations of the state.

Adeleke said that Aregbesola has performed excellently in the state thus deserving to consolidate and finish with what he has started.

He called on members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and citizens to vote for continuity come August 9, saying it will be wise to show the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party that Osun’s governorship seat is not meant for people bereft of idea.

“I want to plead with our members and Osun people to use their vote to bring back Aregbesola because he has worked tremendously for the development of Osun, you should make sure that we score 80 per cent of the votes.

“If we are able to do this, we will be killing an ant with a sledge hammer,” Adeleke said.

He averred that with present government’s developmental stride in the state, if election holds tomorrow, Aregbesola’s victory is guaranteed, saying Senator Omisore is only grandstanding.

While speaking, Aregbesola said his achievement in his first term in office will be dwarfed by that of second term if elected.

The governor said they should expect more than the 88 boreholes which had been sunk in the federal constituency; 2,299 Opon Imo distributed to secondary schools in this axis and the beautification of Asejire to Gbongan on Ibadan-Ife Expressway.

Aregbesola also listed 5 newly built ultra-modern school buildings; intra and inter road networks totalling 60 km among other things in Isokan-Ayedaade-Irewole Federal constituency.

In his words, “We believe, and are of the opinion that power is responsibility. But PDP believe that power has no responsibility. That is the difference between the two of us.

“Our party rules with the aim of running a government that is beneficial to the people. We have the people’s welfare at heart.

“Whereas the PDP is selfish, greedy and avaricious, we do not resemble them. PDP was here for close to 8 years. Was it in their imagination that ambulances were needed on our roads?” To this question, there was a resounding “Noooooooooo!!!!!!” from the huge crowd.

State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives and Empowerment, Mr. Ismail Alagbada, succinctly put the scenario thus: This is simply electrifying! But we do not expect anything less than this. The last three years and more have seen us working ourselves to the bone,” Alagbada said.

Like in a carnival, dodo Ikire, a popular delicacy made of mashed ripe plantain was served in excess to all that came for the campaign that day. Just as the people went hysterical with the campaigns, so they savoured the pleasure that had been part of the economic life of the Ikire town for decades.
