  • Coach Yusuf bags one-year ban, to pay $5,000 fine

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Committee on Ethics and Fair Play has banned Super Eagles’ Chief Coach Salisu Yusuf from all football–related activities for one year with immediate effect.

The four-man committee’s decision was announced in a statement by Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Director of Communications and made available to the News men on Wednesday in Abuja.

Members of the committee were Malam Nuhu Ribadu (Chairman), Mainasara Illo, Rev. Justin Okoroji and Mr Joshua Onoja (Secretary).

He also said that the coach had been directed to pay 5,000 US dollars as a fine to NFF within three months.

According to him, this decision was sequel to a complaint forwarded by the NFF as well as the Coach’s defence against a documentary in which he was seen accepting 1,000 US dollars from an undercover reporter disguising as a player’s agent.

Olajire said that the Ribadu-led Committee made the following submissions:

“Established from the admission of Coach Yusuf and also found as a fact from the documentary and video evidence before it, that he accepted the cash gift of 1,000 US dollars offered by Tigers Player’s Agency, an undercover reporter, purportedly interested in acting on behalf of Players Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali, for their inclusion in the list of players for 2018 CHAN Competition in Morocco.

“The Committee found as a fact that it was not an error of judgment on the part of Coach Yusuf but a conscious and deliberate decision to have accepted the cash gift of 1,000 US dollars from the decoy player agent/undercover reporter, purportedly interested in acting on behalf of Players Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali, even though the evidence before the Committee did not establish that his conduct influenced the choice of the two players.

“That the two Players could have made the team to 2018 CHAN Competition in Morocco on the basis of their talent and performance.

“That Coach Yusuf did not accept the offer of 15 per cent of the anticipated transfer fees of the said players, as there was no follow–up action on the promise.

“That the act of the Coach, which was widely published on the British Broadcasting Corporation, has a damaging effect on the reputation and integrity of Nigerian Football, as he ought to have conducted himself more professionally in line with the Code of Conduct signed alongside his Contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, as his conduct in public and in secret should be exemplary, since coaches are role models.

“That the FIFA Code of Ethics, NFF Code of Ethics and FIFA Disciplinary Code, did not contemplate negligence or error of judgment as a defence to violation of any of the provisions as contained therein, as punitive measures must be adopted to serve as deterrent to other intending offenders, even though, that he is a first time offender.”

Olajire also said that the Committee’s decision was as follows: “In accordance with Art. 22, FIFA Disciplinary Code, he is hereby banned for the period of one year, from partaking or involvement or participation in any football related activity, effective from the date of this decision.

“He is also fined in the sum of 5,000 US dollars to be paid within three (3) months beginning from the date of this decision.”

He noted that the ethics committee also ruled that an appeal against the decision can be made to the NFF Appeals Committee.

The NFF’s spokesman quoted the committee as saying that it passed its verdict on the defendant based on Article 20, 21 (1) and 21 (3) of the NFF Code of Ethics.

He explained that it also made reference to Article 10 and 11 of the FIFA Code of Ethics in arriving at its verdict.

  • Super Eagles Coach banned for collecting $1,000 bribe

    • Fined $5,000

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has placed a one–year ban from all football-related activities on Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, Salisu Yusuf.

The embattled coach has also been ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 to the Federation within three months.

The decision to ban the Coach was reached by the Ethics and Fair Play committee chaired by Nuhu Ribadu (former EFCC Chief).

Salisu was caught on video in an undercover sting report by a Ghanaian journalist assuring he’ll give two players (Osas Okoro and Rabiu Ali) game time in his team and collected $1000 from individuals posing as the players’ agents.

The Coach was also promised 15% of the transfer of the players when they secure deals away from their Nigerian clubs (Enugu Rangers and Kano Pillars).

The sting supposedly took place in the visitor’s Lounge of the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, Sekondi-Takoradi in Ghana during Nigeria’s WAFU Cup campaign.

Salisu Yusuf maintains his innocence arguing that the payment was a gift and insists the players were already part of his team for the 2018 CHAN.

In it’s submission, the committee gave Salisu Yusuf the grace period of three months to pay the $5000, fine but as at press time Salisu has not reacted whether he will  pay the fine or bow out of Eagles job.

  • Salisu Yusuf out of Seychelles tie

NationSport can reveal today that Super Eagles’ assistant coach Salisu Yusuf has been dropped from the team’s technical crew slated to prosecute the September 7 cracker against Seychelles in Victoria, due to his inglorious role of in the $700 bribery scandal which happened last year during the CHAN tournament held in Ghana.

Revealing this to NationSport on Friday in Lagos, Eagles’ manager Gernot Rohr lamented the situation where Sanusi was captured on camera collecting $700 from an undercover reporter to field two players who were regulars in his other age-grade squad, although they were not in Ghana.

Rohr regrets the setting where Salisu accepted the cash stressing that: ” I have worked with Salisu for close to two years and I trust him. But he won’t be with us in Victoria for Seychelles’ game because there is a FIFA inquest on the matter and the NFF has inaugurated a panel to probe what transpired in the unfortunate incident.

”Salisu is a victim of circumstance. He fell for a trap. He was naive. But he is an honest person. A good coach but he is out of the Seychelles trip due to what has happened,” Rohr said.

  • Video Bribery Scandal: Coaches Association Back Salisu

Gaffers under the aegis of Nigeria Football Coaches Association have said that embattled Super Eagles Assistant Coach, Salisu Yusuf, is innocent of bribery allegations made against him.

They made this known in a statement made available on Wednesday in Lagos

Chairman, Ladan Bosso, who is also the head coach of the Nigeria Professional Football League Club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah signed the statement as they pledge their support for the chief coach.

According to the statement, the association said they did not believe the coach should be held liable for any wrongdoing, even though they respect the FIFA code of ethics.

“It is clear to the blind that the coach’s stand wasn’t distorted by the “triviality“of the pecuniary gift made to him.

“The players in question prior to the issuance of the gift had already made the team, and were in fact among the pillars of the team,” the statement said.

“We do not think that the integrity and reputation of football has been affected by this, though we shall investigate further as it dents the reputation of our association and members.

“Again, we think that the coach should be commended for stating clearly that players’ selection is based on performance.

“It makes no sense that our colleague, who earns over N3 million would stoop so low for pittance of 750 or 1000 dollars, which does not compare to the salary he earns. The trivial nature of what he received is the issue.”

The association also said that Yusuf had debunked the allegation made against him.

“Our member has since debunked the allegations in his response to BBC.

“To this effect, we stand with our member pending further investigations, to ascertain if there are any breaches of ethics,” the association said.

“As a body, we shall investigate further this matter and where need be, sanction or caution our colleague.o
