Coaching course: Salisu Yusuf hits London on Monday

El-Kanemi Warriors’ Technical Adviser, Salisu Yusuf, will travel to London on Monday for a coaching course.

Yusuf is expected to depart the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Monday afternoon aboard Arik Air.

A source told SportingLife that Yusuf, who has been tipped to work with Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles’ assistant coach, will be in the United Kingdom for the second phase of the courses he started last month.

Yusuf was part of 17 Nigerian coaches and former international players that travelled to London in March, for a nine -day capacity-building course in match reading, match preparation and backroom analysis.

SportingLife scooped that Yusuf is the only coach that will be traveling with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee department this time for the five-day course.

The aim of the trip, according to our source, is to help Yusuf practicalise what he was taught in the first phase of the course.

“Coach Yusuf is not currently with the team. He is planning to travel to London on Monday for a coaching course. He was in London last month with some Nigerian coaches for a capacity-building course, but he is the only coach travelling with the NFF technical department this time,” a source told SportingLife.

“What they did in their last trip was more or less theoretical, but this time he is going for full practicals on modern day football technology. He will be taught how to monitor players all over the world, football software, recruitment of players as well as match analysis.”

2015 AFCON QUALIFICATION: Salisu Yusuf banks on Amodu’s experience

     • Says ‘Our mission is to qualify Eagles’

The newly appointed Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf believes that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has entrusted the national team job to a competent coaching crew headed by Shaibu Amodu.

Yusuf alongside Ggbenga Ogunbote and Aloy Agu were appointed to assist Amodu following the sack of the coach Stephen Keshi-led technical crew by the NFF.

The AFCON champions have found themselves in a difficult position to pick one of the two tickets available in the Group A, having garnered only four points out of the possible twelve points in the four matches played so far.

South Africa are leading the table with eight points followed by Congo with six points and Nigeria with four points, while Sudan picked three points to stay at the bottom of table.

Yusuf, who is making his second coming as the Eagles coach, told SportingLife that the new coaching crew will do everything within their reach to qualify the team. Yusuf was Eagles’ assistant coach under Samson Siasia.

The El Kanemi Warriors handler insists that they will not disappoint Nigerians.

“I thank God for the new appointment. I also thank the NFF leadership too for considering me worthy of the job. I think the NFF has done a good thing by appointing coach Shaibu Amodu for the job. He is the most experienced coach for the job. He has been there before and he is there now. So he is not new to the job and anytime he was given the job he always delivered. He will deliver this time too,” the former Enyimba FC coach told SportingLife.

The former Kano Pillars coach also informed SportingLife that the new technical crew will soon meet to map out plans for the two games.

“Our mission is to qualify the team for the AFCON next year and by the grace of God we will do that. We (the new coaching crew) will meet and discuss so as to stabilize and balance the team. We will look at the team critically and see the areas that need changes. We promise not to disappoint Nigerians and I believe that at the end of our assignment we will make Nigerians happy again.”

Pre-season tour: El Kanemi storms Benin Republic

El Kanemi Warriors’ head coach, Salisu Yusuf has revealed to SportingLife that his wards would go for pre- season training in Cotonou, Benin Republic before the start of the 2013/2014 Globacom Premier League.

Yusuf who was a former Super Eagles assistant coach said the training tour was necessary so as to allow the old and the new players to gather international experience ahead of the new league season.

He affirmed that his mission to El Kanemi Warriors was to lead the club to a better placement than they were last season. Yusuf pointed out that a strong squad with experience would achieve that.

He opined:”I am with El Kanemi Warriors and I have joined the club to ensure that we finish among the top three next season. It is achievable if all hands are on deck.

“I have concluded plans to take the players and other officials to Benin Republic to have a training tour there. The players need experience and going to that country will afford us that. We are poised towards raising a strong squad for El Kanemi ahead of next season.”

    Yusuf resumes with El-Kanemi Monday

    • Denies N1m monthly salary

    • N13m signing-on fee too

Former Enyimba of Aba coach, Salisu Yusuf is expected to officially resume as El-Kanemi Warriors’ technical adviser on Monday.

Yusuf told SportingLife that he will be in Maiduguri on Monday to finalise the details of his contract.

“I was in Maiduguri last week where I spent four days to look at the offers the club have for me. We had good discussions and what I met on ground was encouraging, I must say I am back home. The unveiling may be done that day too but it depends on the management’s programme,” Yusuf said.

The former Super Eagles assistant coach also disclosed that he did not agree to a contract worth 13 milion naira as signing-on fee and a one million naira monthly salary with El Kanemi. He however admitted that the El Kanemi contract is better than the one he signed at Enyimba.

“I want to set the record straight. The contract I signed with El-Kanemi is far better than what I was getting in Enyimba but it was not what was reported in the press,” the former Kano Pillars coach said.

“It is not ideal to be talking about your contractual agreement on the pages of newspapers but I have a better deal with El-Kanemi. I am happy to be back to the club that I once played for. So, people should not be saying what they don’t know. I cannot say this is what I signed, but I’m happy with my contract.”

Yusuf won two FA Cup trophies as a player with El-Kanemi in 1991 and 1992.

  • Clubs scramble for Enyimba coach Yusuf

Several top clubs including El Kanemi and newly promoted FC Taraba are hot on the chase of Enyimba coach Salisu Yusuf.

He has also remained a long-term target of Sunshine Stars, who have not renewed the contract of coach Fatai Amoo.

Yusuf featured for El Kanemi as a player and has impressed this past season by leading Enyimba to win the Federation Cup and finish as runners-up in the league.

FC Taraba have therefore moved to have Yusuf back as coach after he handled them two seasons ago.

“We’re interested in Yusuf again. He has proved himself at Enyimba and we are willing to open discussions for his return,” a top official informed MTNFootball.com.

He was on a sign-on fee of eight million Naira and a monthly salary of 500,000 Naira in his first spell with the ambitious FC Taraba.

It is now believed that the former Kano Pillars handler will most likely go to the highest bidder especially as Enyimba struggled financially this past season.

  • Title race still open — Yusuf

Title race still open — Yusuf

Enyimba coach,Salisu Yusuf has said the three points his team took off Kano Pillars means more work for his wards.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Organising and Disciplinary Committee on Thursday reversed the League Management Company (LMC) replay order of the botched Matchday 31 tie involving both sides in Kano by awarding three points and three goals to the People’s Elephant.

An elated Yusuf said the three points from the O&D has thrown at Enyimba new challenges if they are to maintain the status quo.

“Naturally, everybody is happy with the decision of the NFF O&D to award us three

points and three goals from the Kano Pillars botched game more so as it has saved us the trouble of heading to Lagos for the replay on Sunday but I know it comes with new challenges.

“We just have to redouble our efforts in order to sustain ourselves at the top as other teams now see us as the team to beat.

“Of course, in football it’s not over until it’s over, we’ve witnessed teams climb up and down, some even created six points lead but right now they’re no longer in contention so we’re going to work extremely hard to keep the top spot till the end of the season.

“We’re wiser and will never remove our legs on the throttle till we grab the league trophy,” said the former Kano Pilars coach to supersport.com.

The two-time African champions have widened the gap at the top by three points ahead of second-placed, Bayelsa United.

‘Why Enyimba put celebration on hold’

Head coach of the 2013 Federation Cup champions, Enyimba, Salisu Yusuf has stressed that he is in firm support of the order by the Chairman of the club, Felix Anyansi Agwu that the players and other club officials should put the celebration on hold.

The Peoples Elephant beat Wikki Tourists 2-0 to jump to the top of the Glo Premier League at least till when the NFF’s O&D meets to decide the outcome of their botched tie with Pillars.

The twice African Champions League winners relied on two first half goals converted by Ifeanyi Edeh and Josiah Maduabuchi in the second and 32nd minutes to leapfrog Bayelsa United and Kano Pilllars who have 52 and 51 points respectively.

Yusuf noted that any celebration or merriment would distract the Aba Millionaires from their other major objective this season hence the need for them to shelve any of such idea for now.

“We have put all celebration plans on hold. We want the players and officials to concentrate on the remaining league games before any of such is discussed,” Yusuf told SportingLife.
