    Sanwo-Olu, Afenifere console Olusi

    Lagos State Governor,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has consoled Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Governance Advisory Council leader, on the death of his wife, Alhaja Iyabo, whose Eighth Day was held on Saturday.

    The governor described Alhaja Olusi as a personal loss to him, President Bola Tinubu, family of All Progressives Congress and the state.

     In a statement by his media aide, Gboyega Akosile, the governor said although the scriptures are clear about life and death as one most constant human occurrences, it is usually not pleasant when we lose loved ones.

     Afenifere Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba in Osun State described the death as a loss to the Progressives family.

     In a statement by Publicity Secretary, Adebayo Balogun, and signed by the leaders; former Deputy Governor, Adeleke Adewoyin and Lekan Usman, it said the vacuum created will be difficult to fill.

     It prayed God to grant her Aljana fridaus and give the family fortitude to bear the loss.

    Lagos Assembly confirms Sanwo-Olu’s new nominees

    Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed new nominees for the State Executive Council (SEC), and heads of some government agencies and parastatals.

    While Kemi Ogunyemi was confirmed as a member of the SEC, Peregrine Victoria Mopelola was confirmed as the chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and Mrs. Kafayat Ajenifuja was confirmed as a member of the commission.

    Other confirmations were Musiliu Alade Aigoro (Member, Audit Service Commission); Oladimeji Sosimi (Member, Local Government Service Commission); Olanrewaju Mojola ( re-appointment -Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission); Olagunju Cole (General Manager, Number Plate Production Authority) and Rasheed Muri-Okunola (General Manager, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency).

    Their confirmation, through a voice vote, followed the presentation of a report by the Chief Whip, Fatai Mojeed, who chaired the screening committee.

    According to Mojeed, the nominees were properly grilled and met the criteria to serve the state.

    Sanwo-Olu gets kudos for prmoting unity

    Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, has hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and others for promoting unity among Lagosians and residents of other states. 

    She spoke during the annual state harvest at Lagos State Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

    Abidakun praised Sanwo-Olu for his work in bringing together people from different backgrounds. She described the event as the best ever and thanked God for His protection.

    Addressing Nigerians, she encouraged everyone to remain positive and endure the removal of fuel subsidy. She believed this challenging time would refine Nigerians through prayers.

    Rev. Dele Ajayi delivered the sermon, urging Christians to trust in God and look forward to better days filled with blessings and prosperity.

    Prince Oluranti Adeola Olufon, the former Deputy Chairman of the Chapel, emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in God and expressed optimism for a great future for Nigeria.

    Otunba Ayobade Obajimi, a former Lagos State Permanent Secretary, urged Nigerians to be responsible caretakers of everything entrusted to them.

    Mr. Kunle Taiwo, the Convener of the Association of Ogun State Indigenes at Chapel of Christ The Light, announced that the State Harvest is a yearly event organized for church members to offer prayers and blessings for their specific states. He added that the next professional harvest event, which will involve other guests and families, is scheduled for November 15, 2023. Participants will have the opportunity to harvest various fruits such as plantains, pawpaw, yam, and more.

    Overall, the event celebrated unity, faith, and gratitude, with participants encouraged to trust in God’s plan and look forward to a bright future for Nigeria.

    Sanwo-Olu unveils ‘Live camera updates’ on Lagos traffic radio

    Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1fm ‘Live Camera Update’ Project at the station’s premises, Radio House, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

     He said the project would rely on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) infrastructure installed by the state government to monitor traffic situations with the view to deliver timely, accurate, detailed, and real-time traffic information to the motoring public and commuters within and outside the state.

     Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the project would further boost the administration’s determination to deploy state of the art technology to drive effectiveness and efficiency in every facet of government’s operations and services delivery.

     He congratulated the Management of Lagos Traffic Radio for their commitment to the station’s mandate of timely and accurate travel information to its teeming listeners. He as well charged them to ensure judicious deployment of this new technological innovation to the benefit of Lagosians.

     Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, said the inauguration of the ‘Live Camera Update’ will in no small measure assist commuters to plan their journey and reduce their travel time drastically.

     Omotosho further said that the ‘Live Camera Update’ will cover over 300 roads and highways in the state and will also help in capturing happenings in Lagos, which is in line with the Lagos Smart city project. This he said would boost the station’s listernership profile.

     In his goodwill message, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake, who was represented by Adeyinka Sorungbe, a Director in the ministry, pledge more support for the station, he noted that more cameras will be installed, thereby availing the station with more live feeds to fulfill its traffic management mandate, which is in line with the THEMES Plus agenda of the state government.

     The General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, Tayo Akanle, lauded the support of Governor Sanwo-Olu for the ‘Live Camera Update’ project and other Projects initiated by the Station.

     Akanle also commended other stakeholders who provided support for the project including Ministry of Information and Strategy, Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology, Ministry of Transportation and Parastatals Monitoring Office, among others.

     Present at the event are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Olumide Sogunle, Permanent Secretary, Parastatals Monitoring Office, Dr. Olugbenga Ayoola Aina, General Manager, Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Jide Lawal, General Manager, Lagos State Ferry Service, Abduolbaq Ladi Balogun, General Manager, Lagos Television, Sola Kosoko, represented by Director Admin and Human Resources, Toyin Ayanbadejo, and LASTMA’s General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, represented by Controller West, Adeosun  Adewunmi.

     Others are; Former General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, Layinka Adagun, Association of Radio Callers, Executive Director, Centre for Social and Economic Rights, Nelson Ekujumi, officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LACVIS, VIS, MVAA, RRS, Traffic Compliance Enforcement (TRACE) Ogun State amongst other stakeholders in the transportation sector.

    Lagos $100m Film City will create jobs, says Sanwo-Olu

    The $100 million Lagos Film City will help to create numerous job opportunities, stimulate economic growth and attract investments to the State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Wednesday.

    The Governor spoke at the groundbreaking of the Lagos Film City Project at Ejinrin, Epe, in the Lagos-East Senatorial District.

    He explained that the film city, which covers 100 hectares of land, will be executed on the Private Public Partnership (PPP) model.

    According to the Governor, the film city will be a testament to his administration’s commitment to nurturing the arts and supporting the dreams of aspiring filmmakers, actors, and technicians.

    Sanwo-Olu enjoined various stakeholders, including filmmakers, investors, educators and the community at large – to join hands and contribute towards the success of the film city.

    “Let us work together to build an ecosystem that nurtures creativity, fosters collaboration, and empowers our artists to push the boundaries of their craft,” he added.

    The Commissioner for the Ministry of Arts, Tourism and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka said the approval for the groundbreaking shows that Lagos will witness bigger projects in Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

    “It will serve as an all-in-one facility – with leisure, entertainment, and learning infrastructure. It will also have accommodations and numerous state-of-the-art studios to support television, radio and film, ranging from pre-production, production, post-production and distribution, among others.

    Benson-Awoyinka averred that the Lagos State Government is committed to investing in this project, which is kicking off with the groundbreaking event, under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism Arts And Culture.

    She noted that the Lagos Film City is poised to make Lagos state even more prosperous and unique, adding that the state government will not rest on its oars of past achievements but will instead make the tourism and entertainment industry more vibrant.

    Linus Idahosa, founder of Del-York Group and the initiator of the project said that the Lagos State Government has initiated a thorough 30-year development strategy to expedite the state’s infrastructural evolution.

    “This strategy aims to bolster infrastructure, draw investments, amplify opportunities, foster tourism and uplift the living standards of Lagosians. Notably, the Lagos Film City stands as a significant highlight of this plan. The collaboration between the Lagos Film City and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is expected to generate substantial economic impact. With an anticipated influx of international visitors, it’s projected that the tourism sector alone will contribute significantly to the local economy, potentially boosting revenue by over 20% in the coming years.

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has warned that train tracks are not markets.

    He tweeted: “I am happy to announce that the LRMT Blue Line is back on track energised with an increase in trips from 12 trips to 54 trips per day and this will rise to 74 trips by the end of November, thanks to the hard work of @Lamataonline

    “The first trip starts at 6:30 a.m. and your daily commute has now become even smoother with a schedule you can plan around as well as with the Cowry Card and discounts to help you plan your expenses better.

    “We temporarily paused the Blue Line this weekend for your safety, and now we have fully energised the line for a brighter future.

    “Please do not attempt to access the rail tracks for any nefarious or otherwise activities and it bears repeating that the train tracks are NOT a marketplace.”

    Sanwo-Olu, Ojelabi mourn as GAC leader Olusi loses wife

    Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sympathized with Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, Governance Advisory Council leader over the passing of his dear wife, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi yesterday.

    The Governor described the death of Alhaja Olusi as a sad episode and a personal loss to him, the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the entire political family of the All Progressives Congress and the people of the State.

    In a statement issued and signed by his media aide, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Governor said although the Holy scriptures are clear about life and death as one of the most constant human occurrences, it is usually not very pleasant when we lose our loved ones. He however expressed joy that Alhaja lived a good life and left a lasting legacy, which he advised everyone, including Prince Olusi and the larger family to hold on to and be happy for.

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has also commiserated with Prince Oluyole Olusi, over the demise of his wife, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi.

    The chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, described the late matriarch as a dutiful wife and affectionate mother of promising children, who was a pillar behind her illustrious husband throughout his political career.

    Ojelabi, in a statement by the Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, observed that the deceased led a long life devoid of controversy, adding that she was a mentor and role model for the womenfolk in love, duty, compassion and commitment to moral values.

    He said in the course of life laced with some thorns, she bore the occasional vicissitudes with uncommon courage, calmness, and superlative understanding.

    Ojelabi condoled with the widower, Pa Olusi, lamenting that he has lost a life companion, whose place in the Matiku Sanusi Olusi family cannot be.

    He also commiserated with the sons, Adetoyese and Sola, both chieftains of the ruling party, urging them to take solace in the fact that their beloved mother left behind the legacies of good virtues at the family level and in the society.

    Ojelabi added:”I received with shock the death of our amiable mother, Mama Mariam Iyabo Olusi, wife of our great party leader, Papa Prince Tajudeen Olusi.

    “She was a devoted wife and pillar of her husband successful exploits in politics, government, community commitment and religious involvement.

    “Our leader has lost a life companion and most invaluable supporter. But, we take solace in her worthwhile existence and election of legacies of love, compassion and duty before her transition.

    The executive Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his commitment to hosting the 19th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Award, AMAA.

     Governor Sanwo-Olu reinstated his commitment to the continental film awards ceremony, which is scheduled to hold on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Lagos, Nigeria, after the announcement of the nominations.

    The governor had made the commitment to host AMAA for four years as a strategic partner after attending the 17th edition that took place at the Marriot Hotel, GRA, Ikeja.

     Speaking on the preparations ahead of the awards ceremony, the board of AMAA said Governor Sanwo-Olu’s restated commitment is not only highly welcomed but shows that he’s a man of his word.

     “We are happy that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has restated his commitment towards hosting the AMAAs for the second year in a row. He is not only making true his promise last year but has also displayed the traits of a true leader. The strategic partnership between AMAA and Lagos state is exemplary.

     “The AMAA team has already been working with the ministry of culture and tourism for the execution of a successful awards ceremony,” Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe said on behalf of the board.

     In the same vein, the Chief Operating Officer, Tony Anih and the awards ceremony’s content director and show producer, Kingsley James, also unveiled some of the activities scheduled for the 2023 edition of AMAA.

    At the unveiling of the nominees for the 2023 AMAA, films like ‘Anikulapo,’ and ‘Mami Water’ have secured multiple nominations.

    Oriade takes delivery of Sanwo-Olu’s food packs

    The Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, Ramotalai Akinlola-Hassan, has lauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the provision of various food items to Lagosians as palliative.

    The gesture, she said, was to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

    Akinlola-Hassan made the commendation at the council secretariat while taking delivery of the food boxes and bags of rice, beans and garri for distribution to residents of the council, particularly in wards H and I, and others in the upland of the council.

    The council chairman stated that the gesture by the governor would go a long way in ameliorating the pains and suffering, millions of Lagos residents were going through.

    Akinlola-Hassan appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience and understanding with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over some of the tough economic policies.

    She added that the pains and suffering being experienced by them would not last forever, because they (ordinary Nigerians) would be the major beneficiaries of the positive outcome of the policies.

    On the distribution of the food items to residents of Oriade LCDA, she stated that she would ensure there was fair, equitable, effective and efficient distribution to vulnerable residents in the council area.

    The food items were 50kg of bags of rice, beans, garri shared in food boxes containing 10kg of rice, 5kg of beans and 5kg of garri.
