The couple disclosed this during their appearance on the Valentine edition of the TVC program, Your View.

Kuti inferred: “We don’t believe in cheating. What is cheating? Love is not ownership.”

One of the hosts asked Seun Kuti, “Would you leave her [your wife] if she cheats on you?

He replied: “No. What has that got to do with anything? Let me tell you something about Africa. African men knew this 500 years ago, 300 years ago, 200 years ago. But today we African men are forming as if we do not know what is going on. In Africa, only your sister’s children inherit from you. Because they are the only ones you are sure are your blood. The heir to the king is the sister’s child. Not his own children. Because he is not sure.

“I am not saying it is okay that my wife cheats on me. African men knew that your blood was matrilineal. Even though she is not your sister’s husband’s child, you are sure she is your sister’s child which is your blood.”

Yetunde Kuti, the wife of Grammy-nominated musician, Seun Kuti, has opened up about the initial obstacles she faced when considering marriage to the Kuti family.

Speaking on Your View on TVC, Yetunde shared the concerns and misunderstandings her family harboured.

In the interview, Yetunde revealed her family’s apprehensions about her union with Seun Kuti and how they cautioned her against it.

She said that despite their reservations, she went against their advice and tied the knot with the singer.

During the conversation, the dancer disclosed that her family held preconceived notions about her husband based on the polygamous history of Seun’s father, Fela Kuti.

According to her, her relatives warned her about potentially becoming one of many wives, comparing it to Fela Kuti’s marriages.

Despite the warnings, Yetunde emphasised that she chose to challenge societal stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding marriage.

She said: I have always had the idea of not wanting to be married, and my family was expecting me not to get married, especially to Seun. I grew up with people whose marriages were not stable and looked at it from their perspective, and I realized that everybody has their own reasons their marriages didn’t work, and people can’t just continue like that.”

“There’s a sacrifice that one has to make, but some people don’t want to make the sacrifice. My family said my life would end if I married Seun Kuti and that I would just be one of his 35 wives. They said his father married many wives and that he would marry more than him.”

Fela used to send PA to London to buy ice cream, sweet – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has revealed how the late music legend used to send his personal assistant to London to buy ice cream and his favorite sweet for him.

He stated this while on an Instagram live session with his fans.

In a bid to educate his fans, Seun said that being a pan-Africanist doesn’t necessarily mean one should be suffering.

Kuti said: “Anyone that tells you that to be a pan-Africanist is to suffer, is a liar. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is Fela also a liar? Do you enjoy more than Fela?

“Fela used to send his PA to London to buy ice cream and his favorite sweet for him. The PA would leave Lagos 10am and arrive in London 3pm.

“He had to go to Bond Street to buy Fela’s favorite sweet. The name of the PA was Femi Bankole Osula but we called him ‘Femi Photo’ because he was also Fela’s photographer.

“He would arrive in Lagos the next morning with the sweet and ice cream. Does that mean Fela is not a pan-Africanist because he likes to lick ice cream?

“You must not enjoy the sweet creams of this life, is that your idea of pan-Africanist? ‘I’m not African because I was born in Africa, I’m African because Africa was born in me.’ It means that for those little pressures that you want to get, you must never betray or sabotage your own people. I will never destroy Africa just because I want luxury.”

Only poor people will go to Heaven, says Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, a Grammy-nominated artist, has stated that, in his belief, only the poor will attain heaven.

He argued that adherents of present religions like Christianity and Islam who have bank accounts and savings may not make it to heaven because they don’t embrace the idea of Jesus coming “now” by saving for the future.

As a self-proclaimed “juju” worshipper, Kuti expressed the view that most Nigerians, being poor, would be eligible for heaven, highlighting that only a fraction of the country’s population, around 48 million out of over 200 million, have bank accounts.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Spill With Phyna podcast, the singer said: “When people tried to preach to me, ‘Oh Seun, you’ve to give your life to Christ.’ I always ask them this particular question: ‘Do you have a bank account? If you do, you’re just like me. Anywhere I dey go when I die, is where you’re going.’

“Because to believe in Jesus Christ is not to believe in a man or a personality. There are doctrines behind it. You must believe in the death and resurrection. Christianity and Islam are religions of now, the immediate. Everything is based on the premise that everything will end now: Jesus Christ is coming now. If you don’t believe that Jesus Christ is coming now then you’re not a real Christian. But all of you who believe Jesus Christ is coming now, you now have bank accounts for tomorrow? You’re saving for tomorrow. That means you don’t believe Jesus Christ is coming now.

“Poor people are the ones that will go to heaven. That’s what it means. In Nigeria, it’s only 48 million Nigerians that have bank accounts. The government revealed this during COVID-19 when Nigerians were agitating for a stipend to be paid to their accounts as palliatives. The government said that won’t work because only 48 million out of 200 million Nigerians have bank accounts. So, hopefully, many of those that will go to heaven will be Nigerians because they have passed the first criteria.”

Seun Kuti: I’m ready to defend libel suit over P&ID

Musician and Grammy nominee Seun Kuti yesterday said he was ready to defend a libel suit against him over comments he made on the controversial Process & Industrial Developments Limited (P&ID) case.

According to him, his comments on the involvement of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, resulted in a lawsuit and a police invitation.

At a briefing in Lagos, he said he would also honour the invitation at 11 am today.

After years of intense legal battle, Nigeria secured a landmark victory in overturning a $10 billion judgment awarded against it in the case.

Judge Ross Cranston of the Business and Property Courts of England and Wales granted Nigeria’s application for sanction relief.

On October 31, Kuti took to his Instagram page to comment on the case.

He alleged that Ayorinde shared certain information with P&ID while representing Nigeria in the arbitration proceedings.

The SAN denied the allegations and filed a libel and character defamation lawsuit.

The case will come up for hearing in Oyo State on January 25.

Seun said: “All I did was read out what the UK court said in their judgment.

“I went through the entire 140 pages, and everything I mentioned came straight from that judgment.

“But now, Ayorinde, Nigeria’s representative in the case, is dragging me to court, saying I defamed him. He even went to the police about it.

“I called the press here to carry them along and be with me as the eyes and ears of the Nigerian people.

“I didn’t call the press to be on my side but to monitor this issue to the end, to educate Nigerians to open their eyes.

“My interest is in the case is patriotic; anyone who is patriotic should be interested in the case.

“As a patriotic citizen deeply committed to the wellbeing and integrity of our nation, I believe in the importance of raising concerns about issues that affect the nation’s interests,” said the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

The musician said it was surprising that Ayorinde would file the lawsuit against him, especially considering the 140-page judgment was public.

He also wondered why the SAN chose to file the suit in Oyo when they both reside in Lagos.

Kuti added: “I stand by everything I have said on the case.

“I am ready to meet him in the court and I am optimistic that I will win this case because it runs in my family to fight against cases like this that affect the nation’s interest.”

He restated his commitment to advocating for causes that will advance the country’s progress.
