    A 36-year-old seamstress, Sherifat Adetunji, on Friday pleaded at a Lagos Island Customary Court that her marriage should be dissolved on ground that her husband was no longer ejaculating inside her during sex.

    The mother of two said that her 10-year-old marriage was blissful until five years ago when things started changing.

    She lamented that her husband could go a year or more without making love to her and that when he did he would not ejaculate inside her.

    “I have complained severally about my dissatisfaction over his attitude towards our sexual life, but has refused to change,” she said.

    “My husband brought a man to pass the night in our house and that in the middle of the night they performed some rituals since then I have been growing lean.

    “He did not show any concern about my state of health or why I was growing lean every day,” Sherifat said.

    She, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage and give her the custody of their two children, Alia, 8, and Kismat, 5.

    Her husband, Monsuru, 38, a trader, told the court that he thought his wife was happy in their marriage because they hardly quarreled.

    He said he was surprised when she packed out of the house and brought him to court for the dissolution of their marriage.

    He admitted his sexual behaviour, saying that it was due to the current economic recession so as to prevent his wife from getting pregnant.

    “I stopped making love to her regularly and releasing in her because of the present economic situation in the country so that she does not get pregnant.

    “The man she said I brought home was a distant relation who had no place to pass the night.

    “The reason why my wife is reducing in size is because she does not give herself rest of mind, she is always worried about one thing or the other,” he said.

    He urged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer interested in the marriage because she had packed out of their matrimonial home.

    The Court President, Mr Awos Awosola, said that marriage institution could only work if the two were in agreement.

    “Marriage is for two people, not one; your wife should also have a say in the home.

    “Since she has complained severally that you are starving her sexually, you should have made amends.

    “If you do not want to get her pregnant you can always use condom,” he said.

    Awosola urged the two parties to maintain the peace and adjourned the case to Feb. 16 for further hearing.

    A 32-year-old woman, Mrs. Jessica Buki, on Thursday asked an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage with Mr  Francis Justin, on grounds of sex starvation and abandonment.

    Buki, who has been married to Francis for three years, told the court that her husband had disappeared to an unknown destination, since October, 2016.

    She accused her husband of denying her sex despite her advances.

    “Instead of granting my request, he will rather rebuke me,” she said.

    She claimed that she was not getting the natural satisfaction required of a legal marriage, adding that her husband had continued to avoid her since she married him.

    “He has failed to perform his duties as a man and has absconded. I was married to Justin since December 2013, in accordance with the law and customs of my people.

    “I want this court to dissolve this marriage because he has showed that he does not want to have anything to do with me.

    “I am 32 years old and can no longer wait for him nor stay without a man, so I demand that I get separated officially,” she said.

    Buki begged the court to grant her request, saying that she had made efforts to find him and make things work, to no avail.

    The respondent was not in court even though he was served hearing notice.

    The judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case till Feb. 13, to give the couple more time to settle out of court. (NAN)

    A 20-year-old woman, Mrs. Salamatu Haruna, on Wednesday asked a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her one-year-old marriage with Mr.   Bello Musa, on grounds of `sex starvation.’

    She told the court that the “husband no longer cares nor sleeps with her again.’’

    Salamatu accused her husband of “denying her sex and exhibiting unstable attitude.’’

    Salamatu also told the court that she is Musa’s second wife and married to him since January 2016, in accordance with Islamic law and customs.

    She said that she was not getting the necessary satisfaction as he failed to perform his duties as a man since after September 2016.

    “I want this honourable court to dissolve this marriage because I am not happy in the marriage.

    “The last time he slept with me was after the 2016 sallah period, and since then he has not touched me.

    “Even when he comes around the house after a long while, it is usually in an odd hour with numerous excuses, and leaves before the early morning prayer.

    “Whenever he leaves that early, I usually do not know where he goes, even though he claims to be a mason,” she said.

    Salamatu prayed the court to grant her request, as she had made effort to persuade her husband to grant her local divorce to no avail.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the respondent was not in court even though he was served hearing notice.

    The judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, adjourned the case till Feb. 7, to give the couple more time to settle out of court.

  • 33-year-old marriage dissolved over denial of sex , irrational behaviour

    An Aba-na-Ohazu Customary Court, near Aba, on Tuesday dissolved a 33 –year-old marriage between Eugene Okoli and his wife, Harrieth, on grounds of denial of conjugal rights and irrational behaviour.

    The dissolution of the marriage, contracted in 1983, followed a suit filed by Okoli claiming that his wife had been behaving irrationally and had denied him sex for 8 years running.

    “My wife is cantankerous and nagging, without justifiable cause. She has for over 8 years now denied me my conjugal rights.

    “She now reacts to me in a despicable manner, which I think is intolerable. And all the efforts I have made to reconcile with her have failed because of her intransigence.

    “From her ways of doing things now, it is clear that there is no more love existing between us,” he submitted.

    He, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage having seen evidences that it had broken down irretrievably.

    In her defence, she alleged that her husband beats her at will, for which she had reported him to the Human Rights Commission at their zonal office which serves Abia in Enugu, Enugu State.

    She stressed that she entrusted her husband with the gains of her trading, which gave the family three shops at Cemetery Market and 4 plots of land in Aba and had benefitted much from her efforts.

    She said that her husband had sold out two plots of the land with only two remaining now, while occupying the four rooms bungalow built in one of them at Alaoji, Ugwunagbor LGA, Aba.

    Harrieth, therefore, rejected the idea of dissolution of the marriage but opted for separation between her and her husband.
    Magistrate Diamond Olewengwa, having heard the parties, noted that it was obvious that the parties were no longer compatible as love, which is a cardinal point of marriage, was now extinct.

    “ Indeed, I am of the view that rather than continue to live in a union that may lead to either party losing his or her life, it is better to severe them for both to remain alive,” he ruled.

    The magistrate, therefore, declared the marriage dissolved and asked Harrieth to return her N1, 100 bride price, hence both are now free to remarry anybody of their choice.

    Olewengwa granted Harrieth continued ownership of two out of three shops she claimed and gave Eugene ownership of the remaining properties the family owned. (NAN)

    A house wife, Mrs Olamide Bola, yesterday told an Akure Customary Court, that her husband, Ogunlana Bola, had sex with her daughter more than once.
    The complainant is seeking divorce of her five-year-old marriage that produced a four-year-old boy.
    According to her, she can no longer tolerate the respondent’s wild sexual urge towards her and her 11-year-old daughter.
    The complainant, who wept in court, regretted her marriage with the respondent.
    The court’s president, Ayodele Omotola, ordered hearing notice to be served on the respondent for appearance at the next adjourned date.
    Omotola adjourned the case till January 18 for continuation of hearing.

    Chukwurah Joy Favor, popularly known as ‘JoyKinsley’, considers her journey into Nollywood as divinely directed. The Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Economics graduate speaks with CLEMENTINA OLOMU on industry trend and her projections for 2017 in this interview.  

    WHY did you choose acting as a career?          Ever since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to be a star. Sometimes, in my dream I see myself acting with other celebrities. When I wake up, I then realise it’s a dream. One day, I saw one of these bulk SMS messages on my phone, requesting for an audition in Okota. I responded with the attitude of ‘you never can tell’ in mind. I did the audition. I was successful.  After then, I started attending auditions; God has been faithful to me. My very first attempt encouraged me, more so, I have the zeal for acting.

    For the fact that you got a role on your first outing, did you consider your journey an easy sail?

    Not easy at all. So many difficulties in the industry, many challenges. I met so many disappointments along the line. Some promised me jobs I didn’t get at the end of the day.

    Can you give us an insight into some of these challenges?

    So many competitions… , affluence also determine your future and stand. How wealthy and buoyant you are is also a determining factor. People who come into the industry with a ride of their own, that is, their own car, are more hopeful than those who trekked into the industry. Especially in the east, if you have a car you will become a star in five months, some will ask you for sex.

    You have two major challenges, one is being a car owner and the other is sexual harassment. Which one did you so for first, taking into consideration that you have to make some savings first before owning a car?

    The car was not a difficult one for me. Before I came into the industry, I’ve  been driving. I have a car. Sex is a different thing. If you are a producer and you are asking me for sex, why should I give it to you?

    Never. What if he has sex with you and at the end of the day did not promote you? The real thing in the industry right now is money. Nobody cares about your body. People do not ask for sex these days. You have to buy roles. You sometimes pay for the roles you are given. The producer, directors and executive directors will tell you they are helping you. They will let you know once you become a star, you won’t remember them.

    Have you paid money for a role?

    No, the industry is becoming more competitive. Nobody can tell what will happen. I’m doing other things that will compliment my career, things that will give me the kind of money that I need.

    You said you are looking for money. Do you need the money to pay your way through?

    No, I want to start producing my own movie. That is why I’m searching for funds

    Do you have the skills that will enable you to stand out as a producer?

    I’ve gathered enough skills, coupled with my experience, that right now I can make a statement as a producer.  I have been to different locations, in and out of the country, I’ve met renowned producers, shared experiences and learned more about the job. I have what it takes to produce a good movie.

    Why did you adopt the name Joykinsley?

    My name is joy and my father’s first name is Kinsley. I put the two together as my stage name. That’s why people call me Joykinsley.

    How many jobs have you done for now?

    I’ve acted in too many movies too numerous to mention. The name of my first movie is Bloody Young Money, My Helper. Caro and Alaro, the Evil Household ,God Never Sleeps, Harvest of Hatred, Gadaffi, Love Meter, Car Wash Girl, and lots more which I cannot remember… but the Gadaffi is not in the market yet… and lots more, yet to be release.

    What’s your dream?

    To make it big locally and on the international scene. I want to go to Hollywood and make movies .I want to go bigger than Hollywood.

    Let’s peep into your background?

    Growing up was not very easy. I lost my dad when I was very young. I was eight years. My aunty brought me up. I attended Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. I read economics.

    How was life with you then?

    My aunty was Jehovah witness. She imposed it on me then, I don’t have any choice. I was a Jehovah witness; I used to go from house to house to preach the gospel. I thank God for making a way for me right now. Even in school, I was an entertainer, I act and sing. I rap a lot but acting is my first love.

    You said you used to evangelise. Is that why you cannot give yourself out for any role?

    Yes. I have got some naked role. I went to the east for a movie, the role they gave me was more of kissing and sex, so I rejected the script and came back to Lagos. It was more like a blue movie.

    Are you single to the core?

    I am not single. At the same, I’m not searching.

    In order words you are in a relationship….

    I am not looking for anyone right now because I want to be focus on my career. If a guy comes by, it’s okay by me. Life is all about moving on and challenges. Sometimes you rise, other times you fall, you stand up dust yourself and continue. Right now, my life is open to opportunities.

    What kind of opportunity are you looking at?

    That which will launch me big and high. I’m available for branding in the incoming year, willing to work with any corporate organisation that is willing to work with me, including the individual, corporate organisation, and government.

    How has 2016 been for you and what are your projections for 2017?

    I did some business this year apart from movies. And I want to start producing my own movies. 2017 is going to be a very good year for me

    What’s your impression about the industry?

    Things are not working well for the industry. The present government doesn’t care about the industry at all. There are issues in the industry right now that needs government intervention. Piracy is killing the industry and the industry is not what it used to be in terms of production.
