A reproductive expert, Professor. Osato Giwa-Osagie, has urged childless couples to consistently have sex for a minimum of two times a week.
He said findings had shown that couples who adhered strictly to the principles were 80 per cent successful in reproduction.
Osagie, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, gave the advice while delivering a lecture at the University of Benin Town and Gown symposium.
The theme of the event was : “The Impact of Human IVF Test-Tube Babies on Infertility in Nigeria.”
Osagie said only five, out of the 47 IVF centres in the country are government- owned.
The lecturer, who stated that it cost between N800, 000 and N1.5 million for a circle of IVF in Nigeria, however, disclosed that “the success of IVF is pegged at 25 to 35 per cent.”
He said: “The implication therefore is that there’s about 70 per cent failure. And in IVF, a couple can decide if they want another woman to carry the baby for them… But we don’t allow the person carrying the baby to meet the couples because of the possible consequence.”
“With the advancement in infertility treatment, men with zero or low sperm count can have babies. Even women who are not menstruating can have babies if they have wombs.
“People who were born without functioning ovaries or who do not release eggs – some of whom have never menstruated in their lives, can have babies.”
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, said the symposium was borne out of the need to sustain “all-round development of the school” and deepen the existing cordial relationship between the Institution and its host community.

Nigerian woman who used juju to run sex racket in UK forced to pay back 22,000 pounds profit
A United Kingdom Nigeian woman who used juju to run a sex racket is to forfeit more than £20,000 of her profits to government.
She is also to spend eight years in jail for offences, including people trafficking.
Her husband, Jackson Omoruyi, 41, was sentenced to two years in prison for money laundering.
Media reports said Lizzy Idahosa, 24, used “juju” sex rituals to force women to work as vice girls.
Idahosa’s herbalist made two of the victims aged 23 and 29 take off their clothes and eat snakes and snails during an oath taking session, a Cardiff Crown Court was told.
They were then sent to Britain where they slept with men up and down the country and believed the black magic curses would make them go insane or die if they refused.
A Proceeds of Crime hearing revealed that Idahosa had profited by £186,400 from her vice ring.
But prosecutor Eugene Egan told the court that investigators could find only £21,900 in Idahosa’s bank accounts.
Judge Tom Crowther ordered Idahosa to pay the cash traced to her accounts – or face a further nine months in prison.
During their trial, the court heard that the two women were bound by a juju ritual to terrify both women into doing what was demanded of them because they believed the powers would work.
The ritual was used to ensure compliance, secrecy, and if broken, dire consequences would follow – illness, madness, infertility or death.
The pair were eventually found by immigration staff at a brothel in Cardiff.
The court heard they had been exploited and abused in the most brutal manner.
Omoruyi was ordered to pay a nominal £10 because the court heard he had no money left out of his illegal profits.

Court dissolves 10 months marriage over sex starvation
A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday dissolved 10 months marriage between Usman Aisha and her husband, Ibrahim for starving the wife of sex.
In his judgment, the judge, Mr Garba Ogbede, said that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and efforts to reconcile them proved abortive.
“Since both parties consented to the dissolution of their marriage, this court has no choice than to dissolve the marriage.
“The couple can no longer stay together because the marriage has broken down totally; both parties are no longer husband and wife, they are free to go their separate ways.
“Both parties are to keep the peace all the time; any violation of the order should be reported to the police for redress,” Ogbede held.
Aisha of Aco Estate, Airport Road, Abuja, had approached the court for dissolution of the marriage because Ibrahim refused to satisfy her during love making.
She said that she spend one month with Ibrahim after their marriage and he always arose her but refused to satisfy her when making love to her.
“ I pleaded so bitterly to him to satisfy me but he refused to change,’’ She said.
Aisha said that whenever she called him so that they could sit and discuss the issue, he would threaten to beat her.
She said that she had reported the matter to both parents but nothing changed.
“I intentionally left our house for months after he refused to change but he never care to look for me.
“Though when I was with him for one month, he feeds me well, but when it comes to sex matters it will turn to fight. I am a woman and I have feelings for him.
“He has failed in his matrimonial obligations, I am totally fed up, please sir, separate us. I am no more interested in the marriage,’’ Aisha added.
She begged the court to dissolve the marriage because she did not want to offend God and to enable her move on with her life.
Ibrahim denied all the allegations but conceded to the dissolution of the marriage because he was also fed up with the union.
“I take good care of her and provide all she wants. Please my Lord, do as she wishes, I have tried my best to settle with her but all my effort prove abortive. I am also fed up,’’ he said.

Sex problems within the family
I love reading the Bible and there was a time I used to devour it but these days, I just read it daily as my roadmap. Recently, I was looking through Genesis again. Now, the story of the creation is the mother of all stories, the Story of stories. If I may base my judgment solely on it, I see that the record says that the first instruction God gave mankind is to go have sex.
At the risk of being persecuted for the rest of my life by some savage religious extremists, I better rephrase to the verbatim: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion….upon the earth”. So be it. But mankind came to know both good and evil and this now, undeniably, reflects in every aspect of our lives, including in sexual matters.
It has been so since ancient times and God intervened by spelling out Ten Commandments to guide our behavior so that we know that some things that humans do are displeasing and punishable by Divine act: for example, adultery is a sin. Yes, we do live within blessings and curses, we manifest blessings and curses, and we continue to gain and lose blessings and curses.
Within families, there are sexual-relationship issues that various persons live with, for example: the incest between a woman and her son; the orgies of a polygamous home; the continuous rape of a financial dependent; a son or daughter expressing himself as gay or lesbian. The Pope might say: “Lord, have mercy”, the Rabbi rend his garment, and the Jihadist brandish the punishing sword.
How does the family or the society deal with culpable and blameless abominations. From the “born that way”, “made that way”, “ended that way” to the asexual that has no sexual appetite, no sexual feelings, no sexual attractions, no sexual capacity how do we live in peace and harmony, how do we tolerate or endure, how do we understand and live and let live, how do we prevent hurt and damages, how do we support and heal and help to change the aberrant? All these, and more, are 21C questions.
You cannot afford to be judgmental in sexual matters. In fact, I can bet anyone a pound to a penny that soon after you punish somebody for a sexual matter, you will find yourself wanting in some greater sexual matter, faulty is some graver sexual matter, or guilty of a more shameful sexual matter. It is like “sexual sinfulness” is our common lot from the extremes of indifference and negligence to the extremes of waywardness and excess.
This “sexual sinfulness” can be enhanced or remedied. The most powerful influences are probably within the home and family, especially parental example and parental training. There are powerful influences from outside the home and the most powerful of these is probably the media, particularly television and the Internet. Cultural and religious training within the home and beyond the home are also powerful interventions and influences.
Sexual problems have various origins. Genetic problems are those that a person is born with and are inherited through one’s genes. They include physical abnormalities, functional abnormalities, and mental abnormalities. Spiritual sexual problems are not essentially genetic problems but may be inherited problems, through a curse. They may manifest as genetic problems or may be independent of genetic transmission. Sexual problems may arise from accidents; environmental influences; drugs and poisons; foods and consumables; social interactions; and cultural, religious, or ideological training and all these problems may manifest as physical, functional, or mental sexual abnormalities.
Sexual problems may have a ripple effect in our work and social life. This is one reason why we should seek intervention to remedy our problems. Problems may be one-time or recurrent, for a short time or for a long time, phasic or steady, temporary or permanent, mild or severe, personally or socially impacting, etc. What can be ignored, tolerated, or endured? What needs intervention and what intervention and by who and in what manner? These are matters of justice and peace, usually difficult to resolve and often, at best, resulting in wrong reactions. To be continued.

Sex and the family
If you watch nature, or videos on nature you would see how important sex is to life. In some respect, it is a central aspect of male-female relationship. Second to water and food, all animals seek it, from tiny insects to huge elephants and they all have their ways when it comes to sexual behavior, be it inside water, on the ground, under the ground or in the air. If you send animals to outer space, be sure they would try it out their too.
Humans too have characteristic human sexual behavior and a wide spectrum of tendencies and actualizations beyond the characteristics.
Human households normally have more than one person residing and many households have more than one sexes residing. How many sexes are there? It is a twenty first century question. Biblically, there are two sexes, male and female. The Bible deals with norms. With the advent of the Internet, the world observes extraordinary sexual characteristics amongst humans which in centuries past, were simply to be hidden and kept from public knowledge. Be it blessing, be it curse, be it acceptable, be it abominable, there are notable deviations from characteristic human sexual presentations or behavior. Born that way, how does one live within a society that is comfortable with its norms.
For example, “a hermaphrodite is a person or animal having both male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics, either abnormally or (in the case of some organisms) as the natural condition.” (https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=rape&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4NDKB_enNG561NG563&q=rape+definition&gs_l=hp..1.0l5.0.0.0.189163………..0.RR7nYCH3t6I#q=hermaphrodite+definition).
“The first hermaphrodite human pictures were created in 1860, when French photographer Gaspard-Felix Tournachon, otherwise known as Nadar, took nine photographs of a young person with a male build and stature, but who might have identified as female. These are considered the first hermaphrodite human pictures in the world, and were reserved only for medical uses. These photographs were never published in mainstream media.” (http://www.newhealthadvisor.com/Hermaphrodite-Human-Pictures.html)
“A person who is a hermaphrodite has both female and male genital characteristics and can also be called intersex people. This typically means that the organs on the inside are of one sex, while the organs on the outside are of another sex; for example, a hermaphrodite might have a penis and testicles, but inside, there are ovaries and possibly a uterus. In more rare cases, the chromosomes say a person is male or female, but the genitals say otherwise. It is currently estimated that about one in every 2,000 babies born have “confusing” or ambiguous genitalia. In cases like this, the parents might make the decision to put their child through surgery to determine a physical gender, or they might opt to wait until the child is older and can decide for themselves which gender is dominant in their body and mind.” (http://www.newhealthadvisor.com/Hermaphrodite-Human-Pictures.html)
Against African culture, a child born with sexual abnormality might be described as a witch or something to disown. These days, with the pictures on the Internet, we know there are many people in this world with strange sexual characteristics.
Just as there are physical deviations from normal human characteristics, there are mental and spiritual deviations from characteristic humanity. From molestation and rape to sexual sadism, there is a lot that might be dwelling with today’s humanity and from family to family, what are our challenges and how do we cope? To be continued.

Disorders of sex: sexually transmitted diseases (Stds)
Properly conducted, sex is an enjoyable exercise.
Sex is like everything around us: It too is guided by some natural and man-made rules. When these rules are flouted or when an individual is abused or his/her sex organs are somewhat tampered with or the body is mishandled, then sex becomes a problem and an infection, an unwanted dangerous outside agent may be introduced into the person’s system. It’s not the intention of the author of this book to write on every sexually transmitted disease.
A general guidance will be enough. Any disease agent can become sexually transmitted so long as it affects the genitals or reproductive organs or the disease affects the entry point used for “sex”.
The following are the common sexual disorders or agents of sexual diseases: Bacteria: • Gonorrhoea • Chlamydia trachomatis • Syphilis • Lyphogranuloma Inguinale 5. Chancroid •Less well recognised but can be considered as sexually transmitted is a bacteria called Staph. Aureus. Viruses • Human Immune-Deficiency Virus (HIV) • Herpes simplex: Type I and Type II • Human Papilloma Virus • Hepatitis B and C Parasites Trichomonas vaginalis (common in women but can be found in men too).
Fungus(Candidiasis) Otherwise called yeasts, is a common infection of the warm and moist areas of human body especially vagina. It may also affect other parts of the body such as mouth, gut, anus, and armpit. Untreated, it may be sexually transmitted to the sexual partner. Precautions The probability of getting any of these is low provided: a. You stick to one sexual partner b. You are honest with your partner c.
You put your sexual organs into the partner’s correct and biologically appropriate body entry point for which it was designed. d. You use barrier method such as condom when engaging in sex with non-regular sexual partner. Although herpes type I may be contacted from kissing as are above hepatitis viruses. Recent Developments In recent years, there has been a spate of developments in what would otherwise not amount to sexually transmitted diseases.
In the last two years of so, Ebola ravaged West African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. In recent times, there is a solid scientific proof that 9 months after an individual has recovered from Ebola infection, he or she can transmit the infection to his or her spouse. We are still not sure if the duration of carrying the virus can be longer than 9 months. Thus, Ebola is effectively a sexually transmissible disease.
The lesson is many folds: When you are in Ebola-infected country, take caution in sexual engagement. Use protective methods such as condom or consider complete abstinence. Similarly, in the last one year, an old viral disease carried by mosquito has emerged. It’s called Zika virus.

SEX HAS HELPED ME BUILD MY HOME –NIGERIAN MODEL CHIDINMA ONUOHA
Chidinma Onuoha is fast-rising Nigerian model who has been tipped to take the industry by storm. She has worked with several brands in the industry including Bevista and has strutted the runway of the popular show, Music Meets Runway.
Aside modeling, she is also the presenter of a TV show on African Magic Igbo on a show produced by Fidelis Duker production.
In this interview with OVWE MEDEME, she spoke about her career, aspirations and why she dreams with working with top designers such as Tiffany Amber and Kinabuti among others.HOW would you described your career?
My modeling career began professionally in 2007. Then I went on a break shortly after. Modeling is something I have a great passion for and that brought me back into the industry in 2010. It has been awesome since then although with its own ups and down. What has made the difference for me is my passion. For me, it was not about money. My modeling agent is Mike Dunamis Global Concepts who promotes Nigerian Model Achievers Awards.
Tell us about your portfolio.
In 2010, I worked with top fashion label, Bevista. Then the brand was opening a branch. I was the face of Bevista. I also did promotional for Chelsea Dry Gin. I have done a couple of runways such as Music Meets Runway and Nigerian Model Achievers Award (NMAA) and photography. Some of the photographers I have worked with are Paul Ukonu, Kelechi Amadi-Obi and Shola Creatives
Why modeling?
First, I have the physique. I always get that look and questions from people anytime they meet me asking me if I am a model. I remember working in a boutique during my service year and Tiffany Amber walked in and the first question she asked was, ‘are you the in-house model?’ encouragements like that inspired me to develop my modeling career.
Who are your role models?
Naomi Campbell is my first role model. She is the queen of the run way and has always been there. Alek Wek is another role model figure. Her life is very inspiring.
Who are the top fashion brands that you aspire to work with as a model?
That will be Kinabuti and Tiffany Amber. I like Tiffany Amber because she has come a long way and she has a great collection. Her dresses are always take -away stuffs, things you want to have. I can say the same for Kinabuti also. They has a great taste.
Aside modeling, what else do you do?
I am a presenter on a TV programme that is produced by Fidelis Duker Production and runs on Africa magic. It is an Igbo TV programme which I am contracted to. I juggle this alongside my modeling career. Once in a while, I also do a little acting but modeling is my thing.
Would you say modeling has been lucrative?
When I started modeling, it wasn’t about the money but passion. I am always fulfilled anytime I hit the runway. I feel very happy at the networking opportunities that modeling has presented to me. Every day, I am inspired to rise above my level. Modelling has opened doors for me in the entertainment industry as a presenter and actress.
Can you tell us about your aspirations?
I aspire to be the best in my industry and go beyond our shores to the international stage in particular. I want to find myself at a stage where I will become an inspiration to younger models.
What do you do to keep fit?
I try to keep fit every morning. It’s just the normal thing. I wake up in the morning and do my tummy blasting. A model cannot be caught with a big tummy.
What will you not be caught wearing?
I like being edgy sometimes. I don’t do bikinis. You can’t catch me wearing bikinis. It’s a personal decision. I don’t feel cool with it. I can only do it for my own personal leisure maybe when I want to go to the beach.
Does your modeling career enjoy the support of your family?
I have the support of my family. They have always been there from day one. Also my husband is more like a backbone to me. I often get that question asking if I have the support of my husband for my modeling career. He supports me because I have a great passion for what I do. Everything just boils down to personal discipline and principles.
What is your philosophy of life?
Live and let live. Be helpful to people when you can. When I rise, I do not take the ladder down. I allow others to rise with me. Without others, I won’t be where I am today.
What are your favourite designers?
I am actually carrying one which is this purse. I love Michael Korrs bags. As for goggles, I love Gucci. My favourite Nigerian designer is my home girl, Stellamaris Couture. She has been clothing me for years.
What can’t you leave home without?
I can never go without my heels. Oh my God, I am so confident when I am on my heels. I walk majestically with swagger and I represent.
What do you think of sex?
It is a magical word. It is inspirational. But I will advise anyone who is not married to keep off and if you must please protect yourselves. As a married woman, I can tell you that it has helped me build my home.

Sex and the risks
A wise man in one of his books writes; “superfluity comes sooner by white hairs, but sufficiency leaves longer”; and a preacher in one of his prescriptions for practical Christianity says, “sufficient unto the day is of the evil one”.
Current situation as concerns the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is that adolescent males now drive the pandemic. Strained and in distress from prevention fatigue, many more young male Nigerians are having unprotected sex, contracting the virus and increasing the illness and death statistics. There are nownew problems , calling for new approaches and review of current strategies. Emphasis has been on creating awareness in order to bring about relevant changes in patterns of behavior, but because awareness does not necessarily translate to knowledge, many of these young Nigerians now have their own interpretation of safe and safer sex . They have resorted to taking a few antiretroviral drugs, before, during and after sex as a way of avoiding contracting the virus. The many poorly understood mechanisms of action of these drugs and the very high failure rate when used without supervision will not deter them. They would be disappointed if they were informed that even if a Surgeon operating on a patient that has HIV mistakenly cuts himself and takes these drugs almost immediately, there is still a 75% chance that he will develop HIV/AIDS.The waning efforts of relevant agencies to sustain the HIV/AIDS awareness tempo may be making matters worse. And so unfortunately, people have come to think of HIV/AIDS now as just another form of TYPHOMALARIA .
Other issues have emerged ,and many sexually active men are dying atop or underneath women while having sex. As is usually the case with underdeveloped countries, many of these deaths are not being reported. A number of factors may orchestrate to increase the risks of dying from sex, and these ones have little to do with whether or not people are having sex without protection. Questions are being asked as to what category of people are dying from sex, what is killing them and what can be done to stop or reduce these deaths . Finding answers to these questions may appear simple , but on deeper considerations, not so easy. In any case, the issues are worth considering.
Legitimate spousal sex, between consenting partners , and from appropriate relationships is good for the body and nourishes the human brain. In fact, research has affirmed that a happily married man or woman who has sex regularly with her husband or wife and actively participates in it,is more likely to live longer compared with others. However, apart from the risks of contracting deadly sexually transmitted infectious agents, sex in whatever form as long as it involves two or more individuals can be as dangerous as it is pleasant, and how much is too much determines whether or not a man or woman dies or lives while having sex. In some livingorganisms, nature makes provision for male and female members of the specie to mate only once and after that one or both dies. Studies in rats have demonstrated that excessive indulgence in sex by way of frequency could be harmful to health . Male Rats induced to engage in frequent ejaculatory sex with female rats tend to die young, compared with others of same age not so treated. Though these reports have not been adequately investigated in humans because of the difficulties involved in controlling for many confounding variables in experiments involving humans, they are interesting enough to provoke common sense and stimulate thinking. This has become relevant, as it is becoming increasingly realized that sex is sending young and middle aged boys and men to the emergency(casualty) rooms of Hospitals and Clinics all over the world. For many of the cases that have been seen, death and disabilities have been observed during sex or a few minutes after climax. Victims have also been observed to have used Alcohol, aphrodisiac supplements and other performance enhancing drugs of different dosage formulations . When men die while doing it , not much is talked about or disclosed about the women involved.People have begun to wonder if men are simply being driven crazy and into early graves because women are becoming more beautiful, but less chaste and inclined to value systems ,or men have become dangerously addicted to sex, because something yet to be discovered has emerged to distort the normal regulatory control of testosterone along the HypoThalamoHypophysealGonadadal axis.
A woman’s appetite for and demand for sex depends on many factors, including among others, age, sex, genetics, gender, religion, culture, occupation, environment, peer influence, life style and education. Ageand genetics require further details. Some women are naturally more sexually active compared with others of the same age. Something in the genes of a particular person may have been programmed by the maker, to function at a level and with frequencies remarkably different from others, and yet considered normal . This explains why you have the Nuns of the Catholic faith, and why for some women, one orgasmic coitus a week is enough where as, for others, every intimate contact must result in orgasmic sexual intercourse. Beyond that, ayoung woman that is beyond the age of puberty ,but not any where close to menopause is more likely to be sexually active with a strong appetite for sex compared with the one in the transitional menopausal period , whose hormone levels, in particular, estrogen will have begun to decline substantially.
Every normal youngfemale within the reproductive age bracket(15-45years) ovulates about the middle of her menstrual cycle(usually 14 days before the next menstrual bleeding). For ovulation to occur, there has to be a surge in one {leutenizinghormone(LH)}of the two hormones involved in menstrual cycle regulation. This hormone first acts on certain specialized cells of the ovary to produce male hormones(androgens), from which the hormone estrogen is released into the blood. At the level of the brain, this body chemical though predominantly a male hormone, the much that is left in the brain of a woman during this period , serves to increase her appetite for sex. From this brief explanation , it can be seen and understood why at certain periods in every month, some women may find themselves overwhelmed by the urge to have sex , and why some may need to struggle harder than others to bring themselves under control so as not to do unthinkable things. As long as exposure to Alcohol, drugs and other sex stimulants is avoided as much as possible, self control is achievable in all circumstances . Problems arise when in unguarded moments a young lady gets introduced to strange patterns of behavior and the individual gets into unending and uncontrollable desire for sex, from one cycle to another, bulldozing men, old and young as she hops from one bed to another
For the Nigerian African male individual who is young and biologically functional , sex is something to be enjoyed ad infinitum even unto death. The African woman equally believes rightly or wrongly that under any circumstance, the black man is as strong as igneous rock when it comes to sex, and should be able to perform even when he is apparently too ill to do so. Under the unrelenting push of testosterone; the predominant male hormone, there is that feeling of immortality and competitiveness among men that when a man irrespective of age finds himself in a situation that is sexually suggestive, all fear is gone and caution takes back seat. The positive effect of testosterone on male libido begins to fall by about age 25 years, but many individuals only begin to experience symptoms by the time they are concluding their 30th birthday celebrations;the problems declaring themselves by way of problems getting and maintaining erections, first occasionally and then with increasing frequency. It is at this point that death comes knocking at the door, depending on the marital status of the man , type of marriage and most importantly the character and age of his partner.
As will be explained later, men ,and in particular those coming from the African continent(Blacks) are more likely to die while having sex, compared with men of similar age from the White race. One reason for this is that the black man is genetically designed to die from problems associated with blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and the heart. The probability istherefore high that at the time of the sexual encounter, the black maleindividual compared to a white man of the same age and body size, is more likely to have an undiagnosed metabolic disease such as Hypertension or Diabetes . He is more likely to be sexually aggressive and adventurous in bed as he tries to prove one thing or another before his partner. Though not invariable, the black male is also more likely to have multiple sex partners and be using fake or expired performance enhancing drugs about which little information is available to him.
There are certain individuals who believe that women; young ,and middle aged are killing men with sex ; they argue that improved awareness of the modern woman about sex has made it difficult to control her appetite for sex ,even legitimate sex. Some have argued that compared with the past, women of the present time have become difficult to satisfy in bed. Asked why she had lost interest in sex, a young woman once told a court judge that she had become sick of the monotony of same pattern, same place, same night, same style, nothing new. Rather than change, husband asked for marriage dissolution, because, wife had unknowingly given herself away as a cheating housewife; probably having been taken to hotels by men in her place of work
Others believe that men have become so addicted to sex that, even when during a particularly intense sexual encounter they see death coming , they are unable to help themselves .

How to spice up your sex life
DEAR Harriet, I am one of your greatest fans. I look forward to The Nation newspaper every Saturday. Thanks a lot for helping relationships with your counselling.
I recently turned 50.To my greatest surprise, my darling husband came with a surprise gift with a note attached, saying that he wants us to spice up our sex life.
I am grateful for all that he did on my birthday. My husband is really my soulmate and we love each other very much, but with this note, I am worried. To tell you the honest truth, I am a bit reluctant when it comes to sex.
Could it be my age or that our sex life has turned boring suddenly? If so, what should I do? Thanks.
Name withheld. Lagos
