Seyi Tinubu’s chieftaincy installation deserving — Olajengbesi

Abuja-based lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has lauded the installation of Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, describing it as deserving.

In a statement on Sunday, December 21, Olajengbesi applauded the chieftaincy title conferred on President Bola Tinubu’s son by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade on Sunday.

Olajengbesi said Seyi’s achievement as the Chairman of out-of-home advertising company, Loatsad Promomedia, remained outstanding.

He also commended him for his active engagement in youth development and empowerment across the country.

Olajengbesi identified Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as a bridge-builder and a role model for youths in entrepreneurship development.

Olajengbesi said, “The recognition and installation of Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland is deserving and commendable. There’s no doubt that Seyi Tinubu has been an exceptional youth years before his dad became Nigeria’s president.

“Building his out-of-home advertising firm Loatsad Promomedia about 10 years ago is testament to his entrepreneurial candor, a shining example for Nigerian youths.

“Politically, Seyi Tinubu has stayed above the noise and focused on assisting his dad in the assignment of national development. Since Nigeria’s return to Fourth Republic, Seyi Tinubu is undoubtedly the most vibrant president’s son that Nigeria produced.

“In philanthropy, Seyi Tinubu’s kind gestures are palpable in education, youth empowerment and agriculture. Of note, he has been diligently generous in the humanitarian space even before his father became Nigeria’s president.”

  • ‘Why Seyi Tinubu needs maximum security’

‘Why Seyi Tinubu needs maximum security’

President, Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST) Humanitarian Foundation, Adejorin Tai Manuel, has said the son of the President, Seyi Tinubu, needs maximum security because of his active engagements, which involve movement from one location to another.

In a statement, Manuel was reacting to the comments made by Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, regarding ‘excessive’ security escort for the president’s son.

He said, “The security around him today is not an abuse of power; it is a protective necessity. Nigeria has faced insecurity for over 20 years. No serious nation going through such challenges would allow the President’s first son to move around without protection. Any attempt to harm him would not only embarrass the President but also the entire nation.

“What makes Seyi Tinubu’s own case more visible today is simple. He chooses to be useful and actively engaged. He works closely with young people, communities, NGOs, and various sectors. Because of his constant public engagements, invitations, and community interactions, he frequently moves from one location to another, and as the President’s son, he must be protected.

“Many people forget that the issue of security around the families of political leaders did not start with Seyi Tinubu, nor with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Anyone familiar with Abuja knows that the children and family members of top government officials have always had state-provided security across multiple administrations. This is not new, strange, or unique.

“Importantly, Prof. Soyinka himself acknowledged that Seyi approached him with respect. That is who Seyi is. If he were arrogant or entitled, Baba Soyinka may not even have realized he was present, and the scene would have appeared as the film set he thought it was.

“Those who know Seyi in Abuja and Lagos can attest to his humility and modesty. It is widely known that he often drives himself. The paraphernalia of power is not new to him. His father has been a Senator, a two-term Governor of Lagos State, and a successful businessman long before becoming President. Seyi has grown within the realities of public office for decades while also building his own businesses.”

  • Reports on Seyi Tinubu’s security overblown – Balami

Reports on Seyi Tinubu’s security overblown – Balami

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Issac Balami, has dismissed the ongoing debates over the security details of Seyi Tinubu, describing the claims by Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka whom he referred to as a father and mentol, as exaggerated and not a true reflection of reality.

Soyinka, in a now-viral video, expressed shock after encountering Seyi Tinubu in a Lagos hotel surrounded by what he described as a “battalion” of security personnel enough, in his words, “to end an insurrection.”

But in a statement on Wednesday, Balami referred to Soyinka’s description as hyperbolic, arguing that the media failed to identify this in their publications.

“With what appears like a literary piece or comment, Soyinka, a father who I have high regard for, succeeded in exaggerating the security details of Seyi Tinubu; something the media should have identified before rushing to publish,” Balami said.

He noted that hyperbole and figurative expression are common tools used by literary icons when attempting to pass a message, insisting that Soyinka’s remarks should be interpreted in that context.

Balami argued that Seyi Tinubu deserves reasonable security protection, not because he is the son of the President but due to his philanthropic work and growing political profile, with many Lagos residents projecting him as a potential next governor of the state.

“ Even though Seyi Tinubu has not declared or confirmed his interest to run for any public office, his endorsement by Lagos youths and others is enough security threat.

“The few security personnel you see around Seyi Tinubu are justified, as Lagosians have put him in the eye

“This puts him at serious security risk considering how strategic Lagos is and the number of persons eyeing the governorship seat, whether he is running or not,” he said.

Balami further stated that based on his personal observations, Seyi Tinubu is “too humble” to move around with the level of security Soyinka described.

He said that many of the individuals seen around him are supporters and volunteer guards  such as Man-O’-War members who accompany him due to his philanthropy.

He added that other groups often seen with Seyi include the Community Auxiliary Development for Effective Transformation Network (CADETN), a youth-focused voluntary outfit.

According to Balami, it is normal for children of sitting or former Presidents to have substantial security, adding that the difference in Seyi’s case is his active involvement in politics and his visible role in projecting President Tinubu’s administration.

He said: “It is clear that some politicians have seized on Prof. Soyinka’s comments and are now sponsoring narratives across social media to smear Seyi Tinubu. This is expected, given Seyi’s visibility in his father’s administration. Seyi is everywhere mobilizing for his father and for the APC, so the issue is no longer about what Prof. Soyinka said — it is about people politicizing it for their own advantage.

“But I have always advised Seyi Tinubu to stay focused and not be discouraged. He should continue his humanitarian work and keep mobilizing the youths. No campaign of calumny should be allowed to weaken his commitment or his passion for a better Nigeria,” he said.

Balami emphasised that he maintains great respect for Prof. Soyinka but insisted that the acclaimed writer’s descriptions fit into his well-known use of imagery.

“Comparing Seyi Tinubu’s security to that of a battalion, and saying that his security details alone can end an insurrection, speaks to the same hyperbole I have continued to reiterate,” he said.

He further argued that critics would be the first to blame the presidency if any security breach occurred around Seyi Tinubu.

“Withdrawing security from Seyi Tinubu is as good as telling him not to appear anywhere or to become inactive politically,” Balami stated.

He added that security needs vary for everyone including Soyinka himself, depending on their activities and destinations.

“As for Seyi Tinubu, he travels far into the North, South and East in an effort to preach peace and unite youths across different states. So it remains unfair to say the few supporters and some security personnel that work with him should be removed. It will do more harm to the nation than good,” Balami said.

He emphasised that Seyi Tinubu isn’t responsible for the situation, stressing that he’s friends with him and urged fans to stop tagging him on social media over the issue.

According to Lege Miami, Seyi’s team had recorded his birthday message at his house but it wasn’t included in the final video.

Friends donated N20 million to Sarah Martins’ charity, Seyi Tinubu clarifies

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has clarified donating N20 million to actress Sarah Martins’ Golden Heart Foundation, stating it was some of his friends volition to do so.

In a statement on his Instagram story, Tinubu stated that he did not make the donation but was informed that some of his friends had raised funds to support Martins’ charity work.

He wrote: “I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation.

“Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern.

“That said, I must emphasise that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State”.

Tinubu emphasised that while he appreciates the kindness and concern shown by his friends, he does not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State.

“Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order, empathy and patriotism must always go together,” he stated.

The controversy began when Sarah Martins announced on social media that she had received a N20 million donation from Seyi Tinubu to support her charity work.

She alleged officials disrupted her outreach, seized equipment, and left her with minor burns from hot oil during the altercation.

However, the Lagos State Government has since defended the actions of its officials, maintaining that Martins engaged in unauthorised street cooking on a public road median, a violation of environmental and safety regulations.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that while the State appreciates charitable initiatives, such activities must comply with the law to avoid obstructing traffic or endangering lives.
