  • No case against Shittu — NFF

NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary Musa Amadu has insisted that Danny Shittu has no case to answer before the NFF concerning his not honouring coach Stephen Keshi’s call-up to the Super Eagles.

Amadu disclosed that there would thus be no need to report him to FIFA to invoke the relevant law against him for refusing to play for the country in the forthcoming African Cup of Nations holding in South Africa.

The scribe said: “Shittu has no case to answer with us, and we cannot force him to play. He was invited by Coach Stephen Keshi, and in all humility and professionalism, he wrote the Federation pleading that he should be left out of the Championship, as he would want to assist his club to win a promotion to the English Premier League, that in the nearest future if he is invited, he would honour the invitation.

“That is honourable enough. We cannot report him to FIFA because he has given us enough reasons. The coaches accepted his reasons and wished him well. After all he has been honouring past invitations extended to him, and if he pleaded to us for this time, we should not raise dust over it or say that he is unpatrotic, because this is a guy who always plays his heart out whenever he is in the country’s colours. We have to respect his wish.”

AFCON: ‘Shittu to snub Eagles’ invitation’

Danny Shittu is to reject a chance to feature at the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria, according to Millwall boss Kenny Jackett.
