Simi opens up on struggles behind new song ‘Where You Dey’

Afrobeats singer Simi has shared the challenges she faced while working on latest track, ‘Where You Dey’, featuring Chike.

The singer revealed she had wanted to release the song last year but struggled to complete it due to health issues.

Detailing the experience on X, Simi said she was determined to make the song happen and Chike’s contribution exceeded her expectations.

According to her, she also faced difficulties with mixing and mastering the track, eventually mastering it herself despite not enjoying the process.

She wrote: “I really, really, really wanted to drop this song last year. When I first put out the snippet, I was so excited – but it was hard to finish it on time because everything was a blur. I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to. Even in the snippet video, I wasn’t feeling great. I was just trying my best.

“I adore Chike’s voice and I knew it was him that had to be on the song with me. When I asked him to give me a verse, he was so ready to go, but he was out of town. As soon as he came back, he came over to my studio the next day. I got a lotta respect for him. He didn’t know I was pregnant and suffering. Watching this video back now, I can’t even understand where the energy came from. When the song was done, I struggled to mix it. Even so, I decided to master it myself. I hate mastering, so I don’t know what I thinking.

“I was so disappointed that I couldn’t meet the deadline. Everyone had fallen in love with the song and was asking me to put it out. I didn’t have the energy to make content. I don’t even remember them recording this video. Given how much I love this song, I’m a little bummed I couldn’t give it energy it deserves. But please, know that a lot of love and resilience went into this song. I hope that you can let less be more for this one. I hope you can give it the energy that I couldn’t. That I can’t”.

She also addressed critics who stated that she gave up career for marriage, saying the song is a proof of dedication to her craft.

Delta to establish commercial printing press to boost revenue, efficiency

The Delta State Government has announced plans to set up a fully functional and commercially viable printing press to cater to the printing needs of government agencies and the general public.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Tuesday during the inter-ministerial budget defence session at the Ministry of Economic Planning in Asaba.

Aniagwu explained that the initiative, championed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, aims to enhance the efficiency of government printing operations while generating sustainable revenue for the state.

He attributed the delay in the project’s progress to the limited number of qualified proposals received so far, adding that the government remains committed to ensuring transparency and healthy competition in the procurement process.

“We want to have multiple submissions from professionals in the field so that we can make a proper comparative assessment, not only in terms of cost but also in the brands and quality of machines to be acquired and installed,” Aniagwu said.

According to him, the proposed printing press is not intended for The Pointer Newspapers alone, but to serve as a central facility for the state’s broad range of printing needs.

“The state government has a substantial volume of printing requirements from files and calendars to diaries and other materials currently handled by private contractors,” he noted.

“For instance, the Ministry of Education’s annual printing budget alone is significant enough to sustain a functional and profitable printing press.”

“The law allows us to have a government printer who does not necessarily have to be a civil servant,” he explained. “This PPP arrangement will ensure that the press handles both government printing requirements and commercial printing services for the general public.”

He expressed optimism that once the press becomes operational, it would address many of the challenges currently facing The Pointer Newspapers and other government printing departments, particularly issues relating to revenue generation and operational sustainability.

“A self-sustaining printing operation will reduce the agency’s dependence on government subventions,” Aniagwu said.

“If they were generating sufficient revenue, the General Manager wouldn’t need to rely solely on the ministry for essentials like vehicles or fuel.”

He commended the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, for his understanding and support, stressing that with the political will of the Oborevwori administration, the project would soon become a reality.

“With the commitment and focus of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, we are confident that the light at the end of the tunnel is much closer than where we are coming from,” Aniagwu added.

Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko popularly known as Simi has declared profound pride in being Nigerian, stating how it is impossible for non-Nigerians to replicate the culture.

In a recent appearance on the ‘90s Baby Show’, the “Joromi” hitmaker stated: “My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it. Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian.”

She observed that Hollywood’s portrayals of African accents typically imitate East or South African dialects, rarely attempting a Nigerian one.

“Even when they are faking African accents in Hollywood movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent.

“They always fake East Africa and South African accents. Being a Nigerian doesn’t just come as naturally, it just feels like home.

“That is why I wish the country was better. Because I feel like no one would want to leave,” she added.

She encouraged fans to revisit her albums ahead of the show, admitting she might need reminders for some of her own lyrics.

Simi urged fans to get their tickets early, warning that space at the venue is limited.

She wrote on Instagram, “I was tired of letting you down. A promise is a debt and I decided to do this a couple weeks ago, because one of my strengths (flaws) is that I’m impulsive (yay?).

“I didn’t give my team any time to find sponsors so my sponsors are me and my husband #marrywell.

“The tickets are N10,000 flat for everyone. No VIP seats. I would do it for free, but we have to manage access somehow.

“It’s not a big space, so get your tickets early. Even if there are 10 people there, we’re starting early. I just want to sing with you – so go and listen to the albums again and refresh. I know I’m going to cause I don’t be remembering my lyrics. Uhm…what am I forgetting…I love you SimiArmy”.

Ibom Air: Simi slams exposure of Emmanson’s indecent parts, demands sanctions

Singer Simi has called for sanctions against the individual who released a video of Comfort Emmanson being dragged off an Ibom Air plane with her breasts exposed.

According to the singer, it’s unfair to punish Emmanson for her behavior while ignoring the actions of those who recorded and shared the video without editing out the indecent parts.

She stated that sharing the video without blurring out Emmanson’s private parts was an invasion of her privacy and deserves punishment.

The mother of one questioned why the person who posted the video isn’t being held accountable, emphasising that they should face the law.

She wrote on Instagram: “Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that, and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it out. I personally want to know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because they will face the law.

A video of the incident went viral, showing Emmanson being dragged off the plane with her breasts exposed.
