Simi wrote on X: “Don’t live for the love of people. It’s fickle as fuck. Live for truth. Be kind. Be honest. Live for God. And when people do show you love en-masse, don’t bask in it too long. You MAY acknowledge it – but keep it moving. Because people forget. And if you forget that, you will suffer”.

Artists signing others as milestone unfair – Simi

Afrobeats singer Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi, has raised concerns about established artists starting record labels to sign emerging talents without genuine commitment.

In a recent interview with VJ Adams, she argued that running a label should be reserved for those deeply passionate about the music business, rather than artists treating it as a personal achievement.

Simi believes it’s unfair for artists to sign others merely as a passion project without a long-term goal, as it impacts someone’s life and dreams.

She stressed that label owners must remain dedicated to their artists, even during setbacks, such as when anticipated hits underperform.

Reflecting on her experience as a signed artist, she questioned whether labels view artists as mere checkboxes or as priorities equal to their own aspirations.

While acknowledging she could sign artists, Simi expressed doubts about having the sustained drive and energy required to nurture someone’s career.

She said: “I can sign an artist but I think that it’s not fair when an artist signs another artist just as a milestone. Because for that artist, it’s just a passion project for them and not necessarily to accomplish a goal. But then, that’s their life.

“I think the only people that should sign artists are people who really have passion for music business.

“So that whether or not the artist is thriving at the moment, they will still believe in the artist. Whether or not the song that you thought would blow did not blow, are you willing to keep going?

“Are you willing to last on it? Because that’s actually somebody’s life. That’s their dream. And that was the way that I saw myself when I was getting signed like, ‘How do you see me? Am I just a box you are ticketing or is it as important to you as it is to me?’
“That’s why I said I could [sign another artist] but I don’t know if I have that passion, if I have that drive to see someone through, if I have the constant energy. Because it takes a lot.”

However, Simi explained that the term is merely representing the sound of her heartbeat for her baby and holds no specific meaning.

She expressed discomfort with the nickname, noting that she would be more accepting if it had a positive meaning.

While acknowledging that fans mean well, she urged them to respect her daughter’s real name, Adejare.

She said: “People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.

“Stop calling my child Duduke. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”

I’ve never been heartbroken – Simi

Singer and songwriter Simi has revealed that she has never experienced heartbreak, crediting her ability to walk away from unfavourable situations as the reason.

In a recent interview with VJ Adams, the award-winning artiste admitted to feeling emotional pain in the past but said she has never been truly heartbroken.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been heartbroken, but I’ve been hurt before. I don’t have any memory of being heartbroken, but I’ve probably broken someone’s heart though,” she said.

Simi explained that she prioritises her emotional well-being by cutting ties with people or circumstances that make her feel unsafe or unhappy.

She added that while anyone is capable of hurting others, she protects herself by keeping a healthy distance from potentially harmful situations.

“I’m the type of person who used to say that I never wanted someone to date me to that I don’t feel bad or because they pity me. Let me feel bad, then I’d get over it. It’s the same way I used to operate; if I felt like something wasn’t working, I’d walk away from it.

“I’ve not been heartbroken before because if I feel like something isn’t good for me, the way my brain is wired is to walk away from it”, she said.

She noted that this approach isn’t limited to romantic relationships but also applies to friendships and other relationships.

She said: “This isn’t even only for relationships. If I have friends that make me feel unsafe, I’m ready to cut it off because I have anxiety.

“This is why I say I don’t remember ever being heartbroken before but I’ve been hurt. When you love people there’s always the capacity for them to hurt you”.

Why I don’t have too many friends, by Simi

Singer and songwriter Simi has revealed her struggles with having close friends in the entertainment industry, attributing it to her introverted personality.

In an interview with media personality VJ Adams, Simi explained that while she has cordial relationships with industry peers, her true friends exist outside the entertainment world.

She emphasised that her connections in the industry are professional rather than personal, stating that her industry peers are colleagues, not close friends.

Simi further elaborated that her passion for music drives her career, but the social and networking demands of the entertainment industry don’t come naturally to her.

Describing herself as ill-suited for the industry’s spotlight, she admitted to finding networking challenging and engaging socially draining.

She noted that her rapport with VJ Adams is an exception, as building such connections typically requires extra effort due to her reserved nature.

She said, “My friends in the industry are my guys. They’re not friends because they are in the industry.

‘I’m really bad at that, and I always say that I think I have the wrong personality for the industry I have the passion for. I’m only doing music because I like music, and there are many things that I like and know how to do, but I feel like my personality is not compatible.

“I’m really not good at networking, and I don’t know how to engage like that. The rapport I even have with you, I don’t have with many people in the media. These things don’t come to me naturally, so I have to be extra at it”.

She stressed on its transformative power and confidence boost it holds on women.

In a recent TikTok video, Simi encouraged parents to raise daughters who value self-sufficiency and women who can take control of their financial futures.

“Please do not raise your daughters to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone that they don’t have to take care of themselves.
