Sound Sultan graces SBS charity match

In a bid to lend its voice to the call for peace in the country, especially in the embattled North Eastern region of Nigeria, Standard Bearers School, situated at Lekki, Lagos, last Saturday held a charity football match at Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos Island.

With the theme, Kick against Violence, founder the school, Mrs ModupeAdeyinka-Oni, explained that the event is one of the school’s programme designed to raise funds for Stevens Home Orphanage in Abeokuta, which provides a home for children displaced by insurgency in the North.

“What we are doing today is that we are kicking against violence and we are taking a stand against violence because we want our children to know that it’s not a good thing. But beyond that, we are trying to raise funds for the Stevens Home and our target for this event is a million naira. Stevens home has 480 children and some of them are orphans. Over the years, these children have been brought in and ReverendOsu and his wife have been their guardians,” she said.

According to the proprietor, the activities do not end with the fundraising as later in the year, the pupils of Standard Bearers School will have another drive where they will be donating education materials like books, pencils, biros – things that the children need as Christmas presents.

Award-winning Nigerian singer, Sound Sultan, who was at the event to drum up support, joined the parents of the pupils in a novelty match.

“I’m here to support the Kick against Violence,” the artiste said.

“Anything that has to do with peace, I’m in. The proprietor has done her best by bringing this initiative to life. So the best we can do now is support her. We know how it is in Nigeria. Taking care of your own little household comes with its expenses; talk less of a home with kids who have nobody to fend for them. If we must do our own social responsibility, we must come out and support. I’m always willing to support with my personality, with my image, with my followership.”
