    Why my Dad didn’t support my music career – Spyro

    Sensational singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has recounted the story of how his passion for music led to conflicts with his father.

    Speaking on a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, Spyro revealed that his father did not approve of his choice to pursue a music career.

    The ‘Only Fine Girl’ artist explained that his father had previously hindered his aspiration to become a fine artist, prompting him to rebel when faced with opposition to his musical ambitions.

    Spyro added that despite having parents, he took up menial jobs like selling recharge cards to foot his bills and also buy studio time to record songs.

    He said: “Being a pastor, my dad never wanted me to do music. I was a fine artist before. I could draw so well, but for one reason or the other, he stopped me from doing that. Then I started music. He also wanted to stop me from doing that then I got rebellious.

    “I have always had a flair for music right from primary school. I was in the church choir. And I was really good. All the choir masters back then always commended my talent. I was also playing the drum set back then. But my dad never wanted me to do music. It was war. But I knew it was what God has called me to do.

    “After my secondary education, I started recording songs at the studio. I was selling recharge cards back then because I had to make ends meet even though I had parents who were feeding me. But I had to hustle to pay for my lifestyle and book studio time.”

    Sensational singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has revealed how he was pained after his colleagues Fireboy DML and Oxlade, hit stardom before him.

    As a guest starring in the latest episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, Spyro recounted being pained after some of his junior colleagues in the music industry gained prominence before him despite paying to promote his music on blogs back then.

    He said, unknown to him then, God was using his delayed success to teach him that it was not about his talent but by his grace.

    Spyro said: “I paid for my song to be on NotJustOkay which was a big platform back then. Once you hear their voice tag on a song, the song don blow. So, I thought that [I would blow].

    “So when Fireboy come blow, I was like, ‘Eh! Fireboy blow before me? God, me I still dey…’ And all those times, God was teaching me that it’s not about my talent but by his grace.

    “Oxlade too. I mean, before Oxlade blew, na me… Eh God! Oxlade was in my show in 2018. I also brought Davido and Mayorkun for the song. I had a song with Davido and Mayorkun in 2018. I thought that the song would blow me.

    “I would post Oxlade on my social media pages and urge fans to watch out for him. And he would come to my DM to appreciate me. Then he just blew before me. I was like, ‘God, what is going on?’

    “Na Oxlade and Fireboy blow na im pain me pass. No be say pain but it triggered me. I am happy that they blew at the point they blew but these are people that I was in the industry before them. I was like, ‘God, what is going on?’ So, it was so painful for me. It was frustrating. I would cry. I would struggle with God.”

    The music artist who rose to fame a year ago, lamented that many in prestigious roles seem unwilling to see others ascend and prosper with them. 

    He expressed concern about the lack of inclusivity and opportunities for aspiring individuals

    He said: “It’s been about a year on top and one major thing I have realised is that majority of the people at the top don’t want the ones below to join them and let me shock you,most of them hate it when you break free to move up so they fight you even when you get there but I have come to declare to someone today .. AS GOD LIVES ,YOU WILL MOVE UP AND STAY UP THIS YEAR A but you sef fight o ,NO GREE FOR ANYBODY WEY NO GREE FOR YOU.”

    Singer and songwriter, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has given popular Instagram blogger, Tunde Olaoluwa Adekunle also known as Tunde Ednut a whopping sum of N3million ahead of his birthday.

    Tunde Ednut will celebrate his 38th birthday on Saturday, January 20.

    With the upcoming celebration, fans and well-wishers in Nigeria have been showering the performer with numerous presents, including cows, money, and other kind items.

    The ‘Who Is Your Guy’ crooner disclosed this in a recent interview with Hip TV.

    He said: “My spec is a Jesus’ baddie. That’s my spec: Know God but be a baddie. Don’t be mediocre because you know God. Dress well and speak well. Do those things that bad girls do but do it for your husband alone.”

    Spyro also addressed the social media trolls urging him to choose between secular and gospel music, arguing that his secular songs can be sung anywhere without compromising his love for God.

    He said: “In anything you do in life, you will always get criticised. And we just have to take a stance. It’s either you are hot or you are cold. It’s either you are for God or you are not for God.

    “I’ve always known even before now that I’m going to get criticised for what I stand for. But it doesn’t mean it’s going to change. I’m a Christian and I make music. You can be a banker and still represent God in your field. I’m saying that I love God and I’m using my platform to talk about him. It doesn’t mean I shouldn’t go about my business.”

    Sensational singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has clarified the misconception of netizens who dragged him over the weekend for singing his hit song ‘only fine girl’ in church. 

    Recall that the singer was spotted performing his song at the Harvesters International Gospel Centre’s Christmas carol service in Lagos.

    The man of God in charge, Pastor Bolaji wasn’t left out in the dragging after permitting Spyro to perform his hit song “Only Fine Girl” during a drama presentation at the carol service.

    Responding to the criticism in a post on his official X, he clarified that he has the right to serve and worship God just like any other members despite being a celebrity.

    “The Carol was completely FREE for everyone. The tickets were free. Because I’m a celebrity doesn’t make me human? I can serve God like the rest of you. So please understand that I’m human, a Christian and I serve in a real church. Thanks.”
