He wrote on Instagram: “It’s really hard being a celebrity in Lagos. I told a guy I didn’t have anything and would see him the next day. He rained insults on me. Every day I step out of my house, I spend a minimum of N100k on gifts. Now let’s do the maths: let’s say I go out three times a week, that’s N300k per week, making N1.2m per month, and that’s about N15 million a year, Kilode.

“If I enter a restaurant, the bill waits for me outside; I enter the church, the same thing… Enter the estate, the same; carry phone enter online, na the same thing.

“Everybody wants to take, but nobody wants to give, and nobody thinks about how you are faring.

“S/O to every one of my colleagues out there going through this; you’re all the real MVPs and I celebrate you.”

I work hard to put smile on my mother’s face – Spyro

Singer Spyro has credited his mother’s unwavering support and sacrifices for his success.

In a recent interview on the Just Chude podcast, Spyro reflected on his journey, from his difficult childhood to his current achievements.

He shared that his father’s refusal to pay his school fees due to poor grades led to his mother taking on the financial responsibility.

Spyro highlighted his mother’s tireless efforts to provide for him and his siblings, saying she had to work hard to reap the fruits of her labour.

He emphasized that his mother’s sacrifices serve as a constant motivation for him to succeed, saying her dedication and support have driven him to work hard and achieve his goals.

“I just bought a car for my mum and I’ve always wanted to do that. Doing it now just makes me excited that I’m at that point where I can put a smile on her face and make her happy. But beyond getting her a car, I’m doing some other things that make her excited and that’s what matters to me. One of the major reasons why I grind is so that I can put a smile on my mum’s face.

“When I was younger, I wasn’t doing well in school and my dad withdrew and said he wasn’t going to pay my school fees, my mum took the responsibility and sent me to secondary school.

“I saw her really struggle to do these things and she was also taking care of my twin sister and my older brother. It wasn’t easy on her, it was a lot of work for her and she had to put in extra work and put her hands into other jobs that weren’t as fresh. I feel like I have to repay her and she has to eat the fruits of her labour.”

Spyro also discussed his complicated relationship with his father, who he felt was too stern and disciplinarian.

He confessed that their relationship was affected by his father’s financial withdrawal and high-handedness, leading him to question their bond at times.

“I think my dad was just trying to be a disciplinarian, that’s why he stopped paying my fees. I would not blame him, I dey try for him sef, but it affected my relationship with him. I felt like he hated me and sometimes I would ask my mum if he was my real father because he was too high-handed,” he concluded.

Spyro reveals challenges of growing up as pastor’s child

Singer Spyro has opened up about his experiences growing up as the child of a pastor, sharing a blend of humorous and challenging moments.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Spyro described his childhood as “difficult” due to the strict religious environment.

He recounted compulsory Bible study sessions, morning devotions, and a rigorous schedule that made him feel like he was being forced to love God.

“My dad is a pastor and it was difficult growing up with a pastor. You’re going to have to be in church whether or not you want to be in church, you must love God by force. He made us study the Bible from cover to cover, whether we like it or not.

Spyro humorously shared that the morning devotions, which took place during the “deepest” sleep times, made him feel like God was ruining his life.

“The annoying thing was the morning devotion, it was when sleep was getting deeper that they would wake you up for morning devotion. What the thing does is that it makes you hate God instead of loving him because it’d be like, ‘This God wey wan ruin my life’.

Despite the challenges, Spyro acknowledged the positive impact of his upbringing.

He credited his parents’ teachings and the fear of God for shaping his values and behaviour, even in his adult life.

He noted that he didn’t engage in smoking, drinking, or promiscuity during his university days due to the fear of God instilled in him.

“It was crazy, trust me it was a crazy experience. When I got into uni I saw it as my freedom and I never returned home for about four years. I was like, ‘Thank you Jesus for this open door,’ you know? I was waiting for it and I took it, then I didn’t even turn back.

“The good thing about having pastor parents is that even though I don’t like the approach and everything, that fear of God is still in me. So all through my university, I was saved, I didn’t do it for my parents; I just had the fear of God. That has worked for me until now, to this date, I don’t smoke drink or carry women. All that attests to the fear of God because my dad and mum aren’t here but God is seeing me,” he explained.

Being signed to big record labels doesn’t guarantee success, Spyro tells upcoming artists

Singer Spyro has dished out advice to upcoming artistes about joining record labels and the expected success aftermath.

He said signing with the biggest label or artiste in the world doesn’t guarantee their success.

Big labels/ names, he said, only aid what one already carries.

He explained that if one already carries a failure mentality, the label would only amplify you to be a massive failure and vice versa.

He wrote: “Dear Upcoming artiste, I write this to you from the depth of my heart. I wish you would know that the Label of who is signing you has nothing to do with your success. So if you like be signed by the biggest label/artiste in the world, it’s still no guarantee for success o. Labels/Big names will only aid what you already “carry”

“So, if you already carry a failure mentality that everything must be done for you/handed to you just because you got the talent, well the will help amplify you to be a massive failure and vice versa. Just so you know too, your talent without diligence and hard work will fail you. In fact these days a talentless person with focus, diligence & hard work gets the bag.
Stop building castles in the air waiting for labels/people and start investing in you.

“In my case, labels failed me so I built mine from zero to what it is today and if I can do it yes you can too… Infact while I was signed to my last label, I was there taking loans from people and the bank to fund projects

“Yes you hear me talk about how God changed my life right, what I didn’t tell you was that he used me to change my life for me, all you see today is a result of years of hard work and planning …what if I tell you now that till date all you see outside from my releases, A&R ,PR , STYLING …name it,ball are spearheaded by me over sleepless nights …

“My guy, wake up, nothing will change until you start taking responsibility for yourself and life”.
