Tacha, Venita, Phyna under fire for controversial marriage advice

Big Brother Naija alumni, Tacha, Phyna and Venita, have come under heavy criticism on social media following their recent advice on marriage.

The trio had given wedding and marriage advice to listeners during Tacha’s podcast on Cool FM and Phyna’s podcast simultaneously.

During the discussion, Venita advised young ladies against getting married early while stating that 28 years old is the considerable age to get married.

She advised young people to be young, enjoy life and get married when tired.

“This is why I say don’t marry young oh! Don’t go and do high school sweetheart. Just be young and enjoy your life, when you are tired get married,’ said the 37 year old single mother.

“If my daughter approaches me and says mom I want to get married as long as she’s not 28 I swear to God we can’t work with it. Anything below 28 is a no because you are going to change your mind because you don’t know all of who you are at twenty something. Don’t get me wrong, there are people that are mature but you have to try different experiences in life to be sure you want to be stuck here.”

On her part, Tacha, echoed similar sentiments during a podcast with fellow Big Brother Naija winner Phyna. She emphasised that women should remain single until they are married.

“You have to be in a relationship, but don’t be faithful until you either get a ring or enter into a marriage where you swear an oath. You are single until you are married,” Tacha remarked.

Nigerian youths and adults with varied opinions took to social media to react to the advice, criticising the idea, labelling it as promoting a ‘carefree’ attitude towards relationships.

Obiasogu David commented “Phyna and Tacha have probably mastered the art of clout-chasing and are using it well. Drop the dumbest hot take and have people feed on it. After all, “they must talk. While their style gets them on trend and in conversations, it diminishes brand reputation. But I guess, they don’t care, in as much as it puts food on their table. On their take on Mummy Zee’s story of waking up at 4 am to cook for her husband, they wouldn’t understand since marriage is probably not for them.”

She questioned the basis of their anger, pointing out that they reacted to a 30-second teaser without viewing the entire video and conversation before offering criticism.

Tacha used their negative feedback as an illustration of why false narratives and fake news often circulate online, emphasizing the importance of listening before passing judgment.

Referring to them as educated individuals with a low IQ, she asserted her intellectual superiority over them.

She said: “A lot of people on this internet are not smart. You act as if you have sense but you don’t have sense and that’s why you need to pass English before going to school in an English-speaking country. Because speaking in English, typing in English, and communicating in English doesn’t mean you don’t have sense.

“Tell me why you guys are getting upset and angry and reacting over a 30-second teaser, where the full conversation is over an hour. You are using 30 seconds to get angry. That’s why it’s so easy for fake narratives or fake news to go on the internet because of people like you. Most of you are gullible, you don’t think for yourself. Because the crowd is going left, you must go left. You can’t think for yourself. Keep crying because, at the end of the day, I am smarter than you.”
