    Pain purifies the soul – Timi Dakolo

    Singer Timi Dakolo has educated his fans on the impact of experiencing pain.

     He spoke about the transformative power of pain and struggle.

    The singer revealed this during a talk with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo on the current episode of the “With Chude” podcast.

    Timi Dakolo compared a person’s pain to fertiliser using the agony of childbirth as evidence for his claim, he highlighted how it transforms a woman on a deeper level.

    He made a point by using his song Omo Ayo, which highlighted his resilience in the face of hardship and sadness.

    He said: “Everybody should go through a certain level of pain because it purifies the soul. It’s like fertiliser. If you have not experienced a certain level of pain, there are certain things you can never know.

    “You know how the Bible says, ‘And he came to himself, the prodigal son.’ It was not the time he was enjoying the money. It was when it was finished, and he was eating pig food.”

    “I was telling my friend the other day that when a woman gives birth, labour pain changes her. After that, just watch the person; it does something to them. Either they swing to the far left or to the right. So you will choose. That’s the meaning of the ‘Omo Ayo.’ See, my heart and all its breakings, life and all its takings, I will still remain Omo Ayo”.

    Why my parents deceitfully abandoned me with my grandmother – Timi Dakolo reveals

    Singer, Timi Dakolo has opened up on how his parents deceived him and left him in the care of his grandmother.

    Dakolo revealed this in the latest episode on the Tea with Tay podcast, hosted by Taymesan.

    Dakolo explained that his parents made the decision due to financial constraints, as they lacked the means to provide for him adequately.

    He said: “My parents, I don’t know why they were knacking at a very young age. They were very young so they didn’t know what they were doing.”

    “When they had me they were like ‘Let’s go and see your grandma’ Then they dropped me with her and ran away because they were too young and didn’t know what to do with me.

    “I don’t think my mother was up to 20 years old when she had me and my dad was probably in his early 20’s. They were childhood sweethearts, then they left each other and he went back to Ghana.”

    The singer said while growing up with his grandmother, he never lacked love and care, adding that she provided everything he needed.

    He added: “I grew up with my grandmother and it didn’t affect me in any way.

    “I did not lack love and my grandmother was my parent so I didn’t miss anyone. She was doing everything that concerned me.”

    Dakolo also revealed how his childhood has shaped him into the person he is today, adding that he hawked orange and sachet water.

    He stated: “When you are raised by an old woman, at a young age, alone with her at home, you become an adult at a very young age. You would be doing things while your mates are playing. 

    “… and you must sell something. I sell everything in season. I sold orange, ice water. Those days they used to sell waterproof, black and yellow, and pure black colour.”

    The singer rose to fame after winning the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007.

    Popular singer and songwriter, Timi Dakolo, has stated that he is not a gospel artiste.

    He pointed out that his style of music is diverse, emphasising that he cannot be boxed into a particular genre.

    The ‘Iyawo mi’ crooner spoke in a recent interview with Cool FM Nigeria, Lagos, hosted by OAP Dotun.

    The host asked: “People kind of categorise you into gospel. Are you a gospel musician?”

    Dakolo replied: “I am not, by any chance. I always say to people, ‘Is there a gospel banker or architect?’ It is you that decided that is what you want to do. Art is art.

    “I am just an artist. In fact, I am not an artist; I am a creator of art. You cannot box my music into a particular genre. I am much more than a wedding singer. ‘Great Nation’ and ‘Wish Me Well’ are not wedding songs. If you listen to my new album, you are going to hear that [my diversity]. ‘Men Of The South’ is a song about cultural pride.”

    He added that he performs at gospel events because he is a Christian.

    Popular singer, Timi Dakolo has urged gospel singer, Moses Bliss about getting a partner to make his Christmas shoot more beautiful in 2024. 

    Moses Bliss had shared a photo on his Instagram page, showing him in pyjamas next to a Christmas tree, extending holiday wishes to everyone for a Merry Christmas filled with joy, peace, love, glory, and the grace of Jesus.

    In reaction to the photo, Timi Dakolo playfully remarked that the photo would look even more beautiful with a woman by Moses Bliss’ side.

    Regrettably, Moses Bliss acknowledged Timi’s suggestion, stating that he had done his best.

    Dakolo subsequently urged Moses Bliss to put in more effort, adding that it’s not good for a man to be alone, especially in this period.

    Responding, Moses Bliss asserted: “I promise, I tried my best”

    Encouraging Bliss, Dakolo urged him to try harder.

    “@mosesbliss try some more. For it is not good for a man to be alone, especially in this period,” he wrote.

    Popular singer, Timi Dakolo, has taken to his Instagram platform to celebrate his last daughter, Zoe Dakolo’s 10th birthday,

    Describing Zoe as special, the ‘Everything’ crooner has pledged to sing more songs in 2024 so he can afford everything his daughter asks for.

    He wrote: “It’s world @zoedakolo. Happy birthday Zoe special. Can’t believe my baby is 10. Like terrific 10. I love and respect you zozo.

    I lost sleep after someone gifted me my first N1m – Timi Dakolo

    Renowned soulful singer Timi Dakolo recently reminisced about his response when a stranger gifted him his first one million naira.

    Dakolo, who achieved victory in the inaugural ‘Idols West Africa’ singing contest in 2007, revealed that he hadn’t even seen N10,000 before the moment he was handed the N1 million by the generous individual in his hotel.

    In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, the 42-year-old “Iyawo Mi” crooner revealed that on receiving the money, his diction swiftly changed as he burst into speaking ‘good English’.

    He also admitted the money ‘humbled’ him as he found himself just staring at it and couldn’t sleep as a result.

    He noted: “There was somebody that gave me N1m from nowhere. I had never seen N10,000 before.

    “The money I used to have then was always N1,300, N800, N1,200, and N520. And somebody gave me N1m cash. He came to the hotel and gave me N1m. He said he doesn’t watch TV but he saw me on TV and he felt he should give me N1m.

    “I saw N1m, I could not sleep. I was looking at the money. I said, ‘This money will change.’ I was speaking English that day. Me that used to disturb the whole place, I was quiet [sic]. I caught myself speaking good English.”

    Singer Timi Dakolo has thanked Nigerians for supporting him and his family for their support since his wife, Busola Dakolo granted an interview, alleging that she was raped Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo, when she was a teenager.

    He took to Instagram account on Sunday to share his appreciation. In his note, he also appealed for Nigerians to report rape incidents, especially when it happens in a church.

    “Busola and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support and most importantly – action, following her story told on Friday.

    “We thank you, Nigeria. We thank you most deeply for helping make this moment count.

    “We also thank the team of people who have been helping us since Busola decided to tell her story months ago.

    “Because of them, Busola’s story has sparked a movement called #NotInMyChurch – to help other survivors of sexua abuse in the church find help, justice an healing. I am grateful to Enough is Enough Nigeria @eienigeria for helping to drive this movement.

    “Please upload stories about abuse or rape, especially in the church on notinmychurch.ng and to partner with or support the work they are doing to help survivors speak out, find help or get justice, please email info@notinmychurch.ng.

    “We can truly make this moment matter beyond just Busola’s story. She is speaking on behalf of those who haven’t yet been able to speak, and thousands who have now begin to find their voices.”

    Since the story broke, many celebrities and other citizens have aligned with Timi’s wife, using the hashtag, ‘IStand WithBusola on social media to express their support.

    Many Nigerians have also saluted Timi for standing behind his wife in the face of the matter.

    Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe said “Welldone Bro! Na Man you be, God bless you.”

    On Air Personality and author, Toke Makinwa, and actress Lala Akindoju also wrote, “God bless you.”

    Before his wife came out openly to accuse pastor Fatoyinbo, Timi Dakolo had been spearheading a campaign against rape.

    Meanwhile, on Sunday, protesters stormed COZA church in Abuja.

    AHEAD of the seventh edition of Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert, scheduled for Saturday, October 20, at the EKO Convention Center, Lagos, top artistes, including 2Baba, Falz, Annie Idibia, Kenny Blaq, Timi Dakolo and other industry hot shots gathered at a promotional press event, which revealed the unveiling of a movie, ‘Power of 1’ at the concert.

    Put together by Buckwyld Media Network, ‘Power of 1’, according to organisers, is a phenomenal work of art aimed at entrenching in the hearts of Nigerians; the acceptance of the power of an individual effort to make a significant difference in our society.
