Tinubu congratulates FAAN boss, Kuku on election as ACI Africa VP

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on her election as Vice-President of the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa.

The election of Mrs Kuku was ratified during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly, which held in Lusaka, Zambia, from September 13, 2025, and concludes today.

ACI Africa is the continental arm of ACI, the global trade representative of airports around the world.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the FAAN chief for her dedication to raising aviation standards in Nigeria, noting that her leadership has attracted international recognition.

“The sustained efforts and commitment of the FAAN management to making air transport in Nigeria safe, efficient, and reflective of the highest standards have earned global commendation,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted Mrs Kuku’s trajectory within the global aviation body, recalling that she previously served as Regional Advisor for Africa before becoming a permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board.

He described her new role as a testament to her foresight and professionalism.

Founded in 1991, ACI currently represents more than 2,000 airports in over 170 countries and territories, developing standards, policies, and best practices for airports worldwide.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Mrs Kuku’s new office would further enhance Nigeria’s contributions to global aviation while consolidating reforms at home.

  • Tinubu’s two years: The irony we cannot ignore

Tinubu’s two years: The irony we cannot ignore

    • By T. J. Ishola

Nigeria has never lacked leaders with grand promises. Our history books are littered with men who climbed the podium, swore before God and country, and then promptly treated the nation like an ATM card. Bola Ahmed Tinubu entered Aso Rock in May 2023.  In just two years, Tinubu has managed to attempt what his predecessors, halo polished and robes ironed, could not deliver in eight. The same man critics swore was an albatross is now the one daring to cut the ropes strangling the nation. Such is Nigeria: the angels betray us, and the devils fix our roofs. Credit, whether we like it or not, has to be given where it is due.

The first blow landed on the petrol subsidy. For decades, this subsidy was a bloated cow nobody dared to slaughter, though everyone knew it was eating us alive. Presidents flirted with its removal like timid suitors at a village dance, then fled at the first hiss of discontent. Tinubu yanked off the mask and swung the knife. Painful? Brutal? Certainly. But the boil had to be lanced. Billions once siphoned into private pockets are being redirected. Market women cursed, danfo drivers fumed, yet beneath the grumbling was recognition: the masquerade finally fell into the gutter.

Then came the forex reform. For years, the naira lived like a Pentecostal preacher with two sermons—one for the rich, another for the poor. Politically connected merchants bought dollars at bargain rates, then flipped them for obscene profit while the masses queued at banks like beggars for crumbs. Tinubu collapsed the charade. Investors returned. Reserves rose. Suddenly, the naira began to act like a currency instead of a sickly orphan. The message was simple: the age of “na connection dey determine rate” is over. Even the sacred cows realised: pepper soup no dey exempt any cow when hunger knocks.

Fiscal prudence is another oddity on this stage. The debt service-to-revenue ratio—once a vampire draining almost 100% of our lifeblood—has dropped below 40%. Tax reforms are widening the net, finally catching big fish instead of flogging small fry. Young entrepreneurs, long condemned to borrowing from shylocks with interest rates resembling armed robbery, are now accessing loans. The streets laughed in disbelief: “Na wah o—government finally remember say poor man dey exist.”

Security, our national horror franchise, has also shifted. Terrorists and bandits are being neutralised, caches of weapons seized, hostages rescued. Anti-corruption agencies once reduced to political bulldogs have barked into real action: over 4,000 convictions, billions recovered, ghost projects resurrected from the graveyard. Nigerians blink: so this machinery could work all along? What then were the previous tenants doing—sleeping in agbada?

Infrastructure, too, has crawled out of PowerPoint presentations and into concrete. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is on track, gas plants are expanding domestic supply, ports are modernising, the Electricity Act has shattered Abuja’s stranglehold on power. These aren’t just ribbon-cutting charades; they are arteries for trade, jobs, survival. As one jaded commuter said: “If dem fix these roads, na like person wey finally buy shoe after trekking barefoot for 50 years.”

Even education, that perennial disaster zone, has known calm. Two years without an ASUU strike—unheard of. Over half a million students now access loans, stipends, and bursaries. Millions of households benefit from cash transfers and school feeding programmes. It is not paradise, but the gates of hell have been nudged open just enough for air to pass.

Yet let us not be drunk on progress. Reform without accountability is pouring palm wine into a basket. Ministries, agencies, and councils must now be forced to account for every kobo. No more phantom clinics, invisible schools, or constituency projects that exist only on glossy brochures. Budgets must become contracts with consequences. Fail to deliver? Watch your allocations shrink until you either reform or rot. As the Hausa warn: “Idan ka ki jin magana, zaka ji jifa”—ignore words, you’ll feel stones.

This is Tinubu’s next test: will he wield the same courage against the entrenched gluttons in his own circle? The padded budgets passed by legislators who act more like armed robbers in agbada? The ministries where funds vanish like ghosts at cockcrow? If subsidy cabals could be tamed, can sacred cows in agbada be dragged to the abattoir? Or will the old pattern resume—where leaders roar against corruption in public but dine with it in private?

Nigerians must also confront their hypocrisy. We chant “accountability!” by day but bribe policemen by night. We curse government waste yet inflate contracts when opportunity comes. Everyone wants reform—so long as it does not touch their own pocket. As the Yoruba say, “Omo tí a kò kó, yóò gbé ilé tí a kó ta”—the undisciplined child will sell the family house. We are that child.

History rarely cares for personal saints; it cares for results. And the results—subsidy gone, forex unified, revenue stabilised, infrastructure rolling, strikes absent—are staring us in the face. The irony is brutal: the man many wrote off is doing the work our righteous leaders never dared.

If Tinubu now anchors reform to genuine accountability, he could carve his name in history’s stubborn stone. But if he chickens out—if sacred cows are allowed to keep grazing—then his two-year sprint will collapse into the same swamp of squandered hope.

He has done in two years what others failed to do in two terms. What remains is consolidation, discipline, and a refusal to play hypocrisy’s handmaiden. Nigerians, too, must decide: do we remain cynical spectators, or do we drag this fragile progress forward with vigilance? Because in the end, na accountability go separate the leader from the looter.

And if Tinubu truly wants to be remembered as the man who rewrote Nigeria’s dirge, he must prove it now. For even in Lagos traffic, LASTMA does not accept vibes—you must show your papers.

  • Ondo Action Alliance joins forces with Pro-Tinubu group for 2027 election

Ondo Action Alliance joins forces with Pro-Tinubu group for 2027 election

The opposition Action Alliance (AA) in Ondo State has pledged to collaborate with the Progressives Network for Tinubu (PNT) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The partnership was formalised at a high-level meeting between AA leaders and the pro-Tinubu group on Thursday in Akure, the state capital.

Director General of PNT, Pastor Olumide Obadele, described the alliance as a landmark step toward consolidating Tinubu’s support base in Ondo, adding that both groups aim to deliver over 80 percent of the state’s votes for the president.

“Today, history is being made as we welcome the entire structure of the Action Alliance in Ondo into the Progressives Network for Tinubu. This is part of our pursuit to secure more than 80 percent of votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” Obadele said.

He credited the alliance to the efforts of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Ondo APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, while stressing that the coalition is committed to driving massive voter turnout in 2027, unlike in past elections marked by apathy.

“It is against this backdrop that we have picked up the challenge to educate, enlighten, and mobilise the electorate in the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.

“They must be part of the emergence of a new Nigeria by supporting President Tinubu for a second term,” Obadele said.

He added that the Tinubu administration has made significant progress in the economy, agriculture, infrastructure, and other sectors, which would be showcased during the campaign.

Explaining the PNT’s approach, Obadele noted that the group would engage all eligible voters regardless of party affiliation.

“We talk to groups, opposition parties, organisations, religious bodies, elites as well as ordinary people. Though we belong to the APC, it is not just about party politics. We are for Asiwaju.”

He further described the group as a blend of old and new politicians united by passion and energy.

“We are not violent. We are not cantankerous, and we hold no grudge against anyone. We are peace ambassadors answerable to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo,” he added.

Also speaking, the state chairman of the Action Alliance and former governorship candidate of the party, Fred Akinuli, said the opposition party had resolved to support and promote President Tinubu’s achievements in strategic alignment with PNT across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.

“This is a meeting to synergise with PNT and not a campaign effort, as we are fully aware that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to lift the ban on open campaigns.

“We have resolved to support, propagate, and promote the good work of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a strategic alignment with PNT across Ondo State to deliver not less than 80,000 votes come the 2027 general election.

“Let me assure the leadership of PNT that our party shall work assiduously with you in all the 18 local governments and 203 wards in Ondo State to achieve good results in the task ahead.

“We believe God has chosen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be in the vanguard of reformation and positive change in Nigeria,” Akinuli added.

Tinubu does not need Makinde to win Oyo in 2027, Oladele knocks Alabi

The media office of the Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland and Oyo APC guber aspirant, Oloye Saheed Oladele, has carpeted Oloye Akin Alabi, the Honourable member representing Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, over a statement he made recently.

In a viral video, Oloye Akin Alabi, while making a speech during an event at a gathering of the Egbeda League of Imams and Alfas, suggested that Oyo people would reenact the pattern of voting APC at the federal level and PDP in Oyo State as was done in 2023, in 2027.

Oloye Oladele frowned at the statement made by the third term seeking Federal Rep, at a time when efforts are being made to unite and strengthen Oyo APC.

He bemoaned that his unguarded utterances at the event have dampened the spirits of the party faithful more.

“At a time true party members are healing from the wounds of the losses of the 2023 guber election and the recent Ibadan North bye election to the PDP, the Honourable chose to hurt their feelings further by bringing back the bitter experience of the circumstances that led to the avoidable losses of the elections.

Oloye Oladele, through his media office, said the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Rep is free to join Governor Seyi Makinde to be able to secure the House of Representatives ticket from the PDP for his third tenure, stating that Oyo APC would not miss him one bit.

Oloye Oladele reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not need Governor Seyi Makinde to win Oyo State in the next presidential election in 2027.

According to the Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland, “All President Tinubu needs to do is to put forward as APC governorship candidate a marketable person and a unifier who will be fair to all and sundry irrespective of region. Once Asiwaju is able to get this right, 2027 presidential and governorship elections will be a smoothsail for APC in Oyo State.”

The Media Office took a swipe at the PDP, which he said has lost popularity among Oyo people because its government has plunged the state into generational debt burdens and sold off the masses’ treasured ancestral lands.

Oladele advised the Honourable to retract his statement and apologise to Oyo APC and its teeming members.

  • Tinubu calls for peace as Rivers emergency rule ends

Tinubu calls for peace as Rivers emergency rule ends

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday declared an end to the six-month state of emergency imposed on Rivers State, urging political leaders to embrace peace and democratic harmony as governance resumes in the oil-rich state.

Speaking in a nationwide address, the President said he was encouraged by what he described as “a groundswell of a new spirit of understanding, a robust readiness, and potent enthusiasm on the part of all the stakeholders in Rivers State for an immediate return to democratic governance.”

He noted that the positive signals made it unnecessary to extend the emergency rule beyond its initial six-month duration.

“It therefore gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today. The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the deputy governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from 18 September 2025”, Tinubu announced.

The President reminded governors and state legislatures across the country that only in an atmosphere of peace, order, and good governance could Nigerians truly enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He warned against political brinkmanship and called for cooperation between the executive and legislative arms at all levels of government.

“As a stakeholder in democratic governance, I believe that the need for a harmonious existence and relationship between the executive and the legislature is key to a successful government. The people who voted us into power expect to reap the fruits of democracy. However, that expectation will remain unrealizable in an atmosphere of violence, anarchy, and insecurity borne by misguided political activism and Machiavellian manipulations among the stakeholders”, Tinubu stressed.

Tinubu recalled that his March 18, 2025, proclamation of emergency rule in Rivers was compelled by what he described as “a total paralysis of governance” in the state.

He cited the prolonged face-off between Governor Fubara and the state House of Assembly, which left the government unable to function, stalled the passage of budgets, and even prompted the Supreme Court to rule that there was effectively “no government” in Rivers at the time.

He explained that invoking Section 305 of the Constitution became inevitable as the political impasse spiralled into vandalism of vital economic assets, including oil pipelines, and heightened threats to peace and security.

The declaration, which suspended the offices of the governor, deputy governor, and members of the state legislature, was approved by the National Assembly.

Tinubu acknowledged there had been dissent and over 40 legal challenges against the declaration, but he insisted the step was both constitutional and necessary.

“The power to declare a state of emergency is an inbuilt constitutional tool to address situations of actual or threatened breakdown of public order and public safety, which require extraordinary measures to return the State to peace, order and security,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and the people of Rivers State for their cooperation during the six months, the President said the outcome vindicated the decision.

“It would have been a colossal failure on my part as President not to have made that proclamation,” he added.

The President closed his speech with an appeal to political leaders nationwide, “I implore all of you to let this realisation drive your actions at all times.”

UNICEF pledges continued support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has pledged to deepen its partnership with Nigeria in actualising key programmes under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a special focus on health, nutrition, education, and human capital development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who received a UNICEF delegation led by the country representative, Ms. Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef, at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday, described the renewed collaboration as a step in the right direction.

He commended President Tinubu for redefining the concept of modern leadership in Nigeria through his commitment to bold reforms and youth-focused investments.

In a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of courage and conviction, and he is doing everything possible to redefine the concept of modern leadership in Nigeria.

“We are on the cusp of regenerating our economy and rebuilding this nation. The gains of our reforms are manifesting by the day, the inflationary trend is on the decline, and by the end of the year, the economy will further stabilize for all to see”, Shettima said.

The Vice President highlighted ongoing flagship initiatives such as the Nutrition 774 Initiative, the Nutrition Intervention Fund, and the drive for economic and financial inclusion, stressing that the administration remains committed to forging alliances with UNICEF and other partners to scale up impact.

He described President Tinubu as a leader determined to transform the education sector and invest in Nigeria’s youth for the nation’s long-term growth.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s long-standing collaboration with UNICEF, Shettima noted: “We have worked with your colleagues on different programmes across the country in the past and I believe that your coming will bring on board new experience, exposure and the capacity for value addition to what we are doing.”

In her remarks, Ms. Abdelatef praised the administration’s commitment to nutrition, education, and human capital development.

She singled out the government’s efforts on nutrition, particularly the Nutrition 774 Initiative, the Nutrition Intervention Fund, and the Nutrition Bill, describing the vision as “clear and realisable.”

The UNICEF country representative also lauded Vice President Shettima’s personal dedication to humanitarian causes, calling him “a global citizen,” and assured him of UNICEF’s unwavering support in aligning with the priorities of President Tinubu’s administration.

She reaffirmed UNICEF’s readiness to support the Federal Government in its push to strengthen education, expand opportunities for the girl child, and ensure improved well-being for children and families across the country.
