Arewa youths hail Tinubu’s reforms, pass confidence vote in Edun

The Amalgamated Arewa Youth Group (AAYG) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as deliberate and strategic economic reforms that are already yielding results.

The coalition, which represents youths across the 19 Northern states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the diaspora, said the administration’s policies had stabilised the economy and restored predictability.

It hailed the recent announcement that the Federal Government achieved its 2025 revenue target as early as August, attributing the feat to stimulation of the non-oil sector.

AAYG in a statement by its convener, Alhaji Abdul Idi Ladduga, said the elimination of the corrupt forex regime had created a fairer business environment where access was no longer determined by cronyism.

The group aligned itself with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the reforms were the necessary foundation for critical infrastructure, healthcare, food sovereignty and security.

It praised Finance Minister Wale Edun for spearheading the economic reforms, describing him as competent, disciplined and innovative. The group said his role was instrumental in steering the economy through turbulence to stability.

The youths therefore passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Edun and urged President Tinubu to ignore calls for his sack, describing such demands as politically motivated and a ploy by those benefitting from the old order.

According to the group, such calls were detached from reality and posed a threat to national interest, as removing the finance minister “mid-flight” during recovery would be irresponsible.

It further accused remnants of the fuel subsidy cabal of sponsoring campaigns against the minister, warning that restoring subsidy would undermine reforms and hurt the economy.

While urging Nigerians to remain patient, the AAYG said the sacrifices of today would pave the way for a more stable, sovereign and prosperous Nigeria under Tinubu’s economic direction.

Tinubu to church leaders: let us build prosperity together

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged faith leaders to join hands with him to build a strong economy in which the people will prosper.

He also urged them to remain steadfast in promoting interfaith harmony and denouncing violence.

He pledged to partner them and their institutions to tackle poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Tinubu spoke at the opening of the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, yesterday. He said his request to the religious leaders was hinged on the fact that faith-based organisations are “a vital bridge for peace, unity and moral renewal in the country.”

‘’Our efforts in tackling insecurity, expanding social investment programmes, strengthening agriculture and revitalising infrastructure are geared towards creating an enabling environment for Nigerians to live in peace and fulfill their potential.

“I reassure you that the Federal Government will deepen collaboration with the Catholic Church and other faith-based Organisations in key sectors as education, healthcare, social welfare and skills development.

‘’Together, we can tackle poverty, reduce inequality and build stronger communities,” the President said.

He was represented at the event by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, attended the event, which was witnessed by the representative of Pope Leo XIV, Apostolic Nuncio Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, and some members of the National Assembly.

Tinubu told the bishops that genuine reconciliation and national cohesion can only be achieved when spiritual leaders preach peace, discourage extremism, hatred, and divisive tendencies.

He challenged them ‘’to continue speaking truth to power, not only to government but to society.’’

Tinubu, in a statement by Akume’s  Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, reminded the  clerics that while ‘’speaking truth to power,’’ they should  ‘’offer constructive solutions that will help us build a nation where integrity, hard work and compassion are hallmarks of public and private life.”

He lauded the Catholic Bishops and other clerics across denominations for championing dialogue and tolerance in a diverse nation like Nigeria.

“The Catholic Church has been a credible partner in the journey towards national renewal. Your investments in education, health and social welfare—often in remote and underserved communities—speak louder than words. You have stood with the people in times of hardship, provided comfort in times of grief and raised your voice against injustice and corruption,” Tinubu said.

The President assured them that his administration is committed to addressing insecurity and social unrest, including poverty, unemployment and inequality.

He cited removal of fuel subsidy, unification of exchange rates and efforts to curb leakages in public finances as steps toward stabilising the economy and laying a foundation for long-term prosperity.

These policies, though demanding sacrifices in the short term, Tinubu noted, are necessary to put the nation back on the path of growth and long-term prosperity.

The President emphasised that beyond stabilisation, his government is working to attract local and foreign investments by creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

He highlighted reforms in key sectors, such as agriculture, energy, and infrastructure, which are expected to stimulate job creation, boost productivity, and expand opportunities for young Nigerians.

Tinubu said while the results may not be immediate, the reforms are structured to deliver enduring benefits that will uplift lives and secure a brighter economic future for the nation.

He said: “This administration came into office with a firm commitment to renew hope, strengthen our democratic institutions and build a Nigeria that works for all. We have taken steps to stabilise the economy, attract investment and implement reforms that will, in due course, yield enduring benefits for our people.

‘’We recognise that good governance is not just about economic growth, it is about justice, fairness, transparency, accountability and the dignity of every Nigerian.

“It’s also about ensuring that no one is left behind – whether in urban centres or rural communities, whether majority or minority, whether rich or poor.

Tinubu called on religious leaders to complement the government’s initiatives by nurturing honesty, hard work, and compassion in their communities.

He urged the church to continue offering guidance in civic education, environmental protection and youth empowerment.

The President further urged the church to collaborate with the government in advancing civic education, protecting the environment, and empowering young people, so future generations will gain not only academic knowledge but also values needed to uphold the moral fabric of society.

    Akpabio urges patience

Akpabio urged Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration’s reforms, as they will soon yield results.

“Let me urge my compatriots to be patient with your government as we lay again the foundations of this house. Do not despair when the winds blow strong or the scaffolding shakes,’’ Akpabio said in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media/Communication, Anietie Ekong.

He said it was important for people to note that a country is like a cathedral that cannot be built in a short space of time

“A nation is like a mighty cathedral — it is not raised overnight, but stone by stone, prayer by prayer, hand by hand – They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as Eagles  (Isaiah 40:31), he said.

“Let us renew hope in the Nigerian enterprise. Let us believe again that our land can be great, that our children can inherit a future brighter than our present.

“Let us bind the wounds of division, banish the cynicism of despair, and walk together—Church and State, pulpit and parliament, faith and policy—towards the dawn.

“Transformation is not the burden of one arm of society, or the privilege of a select few. It is a covenant of partnership. As St. Paul declares: ‘We are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.’”

Governor Eno noted that the Catholic Church has played key roles all over the world in fighting injustice, enthroning democratic governance and placing the welfare of the people at the centre of its policies.

Eno called for continued support of the Church in delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

  • Why North will vote Tinubu, by Niger State Governor Bago

Why North will vote Tinubu, by Niger State Governor Bago

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago yesterday explained why the North will vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

He said the President has lived to expectation by implementing his campaign promises.

Bago, who spoke on the state of the nation on Television Continental (TVC), said he is ready to be the campaign manager for President Tinubu because he has done a lot for the North and the country.

“As far as we are concerned, it is Asiwaju for 2027; there is no going back,” said Bago, who also emphasised the primacy of rotation.

He said it is proper for the South to retain power till 2031 in the spirit of zoning, equity and fairness.

In recent times, prominent northerners, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his Sokoto counterpart, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, said the North would not endorse the President for re-election.

But Bago said Nigerians would be shocked by the way the North would vote massively for the President.

The governor, who is a stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said the song waxed for the President is trending in the North, adding that the mobilisation is being intensified.

Bago said northern governors are able to embark on people-oriented developmental projects in their states because they now receive more allocations from the Federation Account.

He said: “I have made myself the director-general of the campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, and the headquarters of the campaign is here (Niger State). There is no going back about that.

“The President has the prerogative to appoint anybody as campaign manager, but as far as I am concerned, this is what our people are doing.”

The governor said the people of Niger State had decided to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in recognition of the principle of rotation, which gives the North and South a sense of belonging and fosters peaceful co-existence.

He stressed: “In Niger State, there is no dissenting voice. Nigeria is coexisting peacefully because we have decided to embrace a kind of rotation in governance; the North will do eight years, the South will do eight years.

“He (President Tinubu) is just two years in office and you are saying it should come back to the North. How? We had opportunities.

“So, we will continue to support the President; my people and my state, and we will also go to other states.”

Bago urged northerners, who aspire to rule the country, to wait till 2031 to realise their ambition.

He added: “When he (President) finishes his eight years, power will come to the North and northerners, who want to contest, can then contest.”

Support for President Tinubu also swelled at the weekend, when, during a meeting, former presiding officers at the National Assembly, like  former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Speakers Patricia Etteh and Yakubu Dogara expressed their interest in his candidacy.

Ex-lawmakers endorse Tinubu’s second term bid

Southern Caucus of National Forum of Former Legislators has adopted President Bola Tinubu as “sole candidate of the South,” urging Nigerians to rally behind him to complete “the tenure of the South” before power goes back to North in 2031.

In a communique after its summit in Abeokuta, the caucus hailed “the reforms of government,” including creation of Regional Development Commissions, local government autonomy, student loan, and deregulation of electricity sector.

“We laud the reforms of government, which include, among others, establishment of Regional Development Commissions, Local Government Autonomy, Student Loan Scheme and Deregulation of Electricity Sector,” it said. It pledged to “align to things that promote unity, peace and prosperity,” while lauding “the patriotism of Northern Caucus in calling for South to complete their tenure.”

“We affirm that it is the turn of South to complete its tenure,” the statement said. “It is in the best interest of the South and nation that President Tinubu completes the tenure of the South. Accordingly, we adopt him as our sole candidate.”

The group promised that South would “support North in 2031,” and called on “Nigerians to pursue this course to promote national unity and firm the foundation of nation building.”

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who convened the summit, underscored the administration’s structural reforms, saying they were driven by “an unassailable belief that while it is not in our power to change the past, it is our obligation to do the work today so our tomorrow can be better.”

Highlighting fiscal data, he argued the economy is responding. He said according to World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update, ‘‘the economy expanded by 4.6 per cent year-on-year in the final quarter of 2024, pushing annual growth to 3.4 per cent, its fastest pace in a decade,” he said. “Nigeria’s fiscal deficit narrowed from 5.4 per cent of GDP in 2023 to 3.0 per cent in 2024, driven by a surge in revenue, which rose from N16.8 trillion in 2023 to N31.9 trillion in 2024.”

He added that inflation, “while still high, is declining—from 24.5 per cent in January 2025 to 23 per cent by May 2025,” and that foreign portfolio investments “hit $5.46 billion in the first quarter of 2025, representing a 67 per cent jump from the previous quarter.”

Still, he cautioned that the journey “is not an easy one,” stressing “fixing things long broken imposes costs, entails sacrifice and requires time.”

“National unity is the sine qua non for national development. Where there is no peace, there cannot be progress,” he said. “Unity does not mean we must think alike, vote alike, or worship in the same way. But we must agree on one thing—Nigeria belongs to us.”

Calling for dialogue and reconciliation, he urged Nigerians to “talk to rather than scream at one another,” to “listen so we can understand one another better,” and “forgive whatever age-long grievances, for the sake of our children.”

“Let us rise with renewed determination to build a Nigeria where unity is a reality, where diversity is our greatest strength, and where we will be proud to travel the ends of the earth and declare, like the Romans, ‘I am a Nigerian.’”

  • Deputy Speaker Kalu urges Nigerians to back Tinubu’s reforms, reserved seats bill

Deputy Speaker Kalu urges Nigerians to back Tinubu’s reforms, reserved seats bill

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has called on Nigerians to throw their full support behind the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking while addressing the 2025/2026 Cohort of Nigerians at the Harvard Kennedy School, Kalu also urged support for the reserved seats bill currently before the National Assembly.

He emphasized that the reforms are designed to stimulate economic growth, ensure stability, and foster national development.

Describing Tinubu as an intentional leader, the Deputy Speaker said the President’s approach is anchored on deliberate steps to steer Nigeria in a defined direction.

Kalu added that while leaders are often viewed differently, true reformers remain committed to continuous learning and knowledge in order to entrench lasting legacies.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an intentional, deliberate leader that knows the direction he is headed and he is taking steps to take the country to that direction. That’s the truth. I say this without sounding political and I will still say what I am saying even if I was not a member of the ruling party or in politics.

“You need to wear your unbiased lens to do your comparative analysis between now and before without sentiments, without trying to sound politically correct. Just view it, you will see. Reformers seek learning and knowledge. I know that once you are a leader, people will try to paint you with different brushes.”

Speaking on the reserved seats bill, the Deputy Speaker highlighted that the bill which he initiated is a part of broader efforts to enhance inclusivity and representation in Nigeria’s development.

Kalu also noted that despite being outside the shores of Nigeria, Nigerians at Harvard and other parts of the world remain connected to their homeland and are committed to contributing to its betterment.

“What this bill seeks to do is to create a space for women. You are thinking home and it’s an advantage for Nigeria that those outside the shores of Nigeria have not forgotten Nigeria”, Kalu said.

  • Halt funding to Zamfara, group tells Tinubu

Halt funding to Zamfara, group tells Tinubu

The Situation Room on Monitoring the War Against Banditry has implored President Bola Tinubu to freeze federal allocations to Zamfara State and declare a state of emergency, citing Governor Dauda Lawal’s purported role in perpetuating the region’s rampant banditry.

The advocacy group levelled explosive accusations against Lawal, claiming his administration’s handling of security votes has effectively subsidized criminal elements operating from the shadows.

“This is nothing short of feeding bandits right from Government House,” the group stated, pointing to Lawal’s recent viral video where he openly disclosed knowledge of bandit kingpins’ hideouts but stopped short of decisive action

At a press conference, Patriot Henry Abba, convener of the Situation Room, decried the Governor’s statements as a “damning admission of guilt” that has plunged Zamfara deeper into chaos.

“It’s shocking, heartbreaking – a blatant betrayal of trust and a catastrophic leadership failure,” Abba thundered.

He argued that Lawal’s reluctance to relay this critical intelligence to federal security outfits has transformed the state into a “notorious graveyard,” where abductions, massacres, and mass displacements have become the grim routine for innocent residents.

Abba painted a harrowing picture of Zamfara’s plight: villages reduced to rubble, families torn apart by nightly raids, and farmlands abandoned under the shadow of fear.

Despite the state’s substantial security budget – reportedly N3 billion disbursed monthly – Lawal’s professed helplessness was dismissed as “utterly irresponsible.”

The convener slammed it as a direct affront to frontline troops risking their lives and a desecration of the sacrifices made by fallen heroes in the fight against insurgency.

Dismissing attempts by the Governor’s supporters to spin the video as a desperate appeal for federal aid, Abba insisted, “This isn’t a plea; it’s a confession. He knows the exact dens of these murderers yet opts for inaction while his citizens perish.”

He challenged Lawal to substantiate any claims of prior intelligence-sharing with agencies like the military or police, questioning why such vital information has seemingly evaporated into bureaucratic voids.

The allegations extend beyond the video. The Situation Room accused Lawal of enabling a system where local government allocations, intended for rural development, are siphoned off into personal coffers.

“Chairmen are holed up in Gusau, far from their domains, turning grassroots funds into illicit windfalls,” Abba revealed, fueling suspicions of widespread graft amid the security vacuum.

Whispers of political maneuvering further tainted the narrative.

Some observers, echoed by the group, speculate that Lawal’s public outburst was a calculated ploy to vilify the Tinubu administration and deflect scrutiny from his own governance lapses.

“It’s politics pushed to extremes – a theatrical bid to obscure the anarchy in Zamfara’s lawless frontiers,” Abba opined, branding the governor’s approach as evidence of a “morally adrift leadership devoid of purpose.”

The Situation Room called on Tinubu for immediate suspension of Zamfara’s federal allocations until a thorough audit clears the air on security vote expenditures.

They advocated for a collaborative investigation involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), and the Office of the National Security Adviser to unearth any diversions of public resources to criminal ends.

The group demanded a National Assembly-led inquiry to grill Lawal on his stewardship, emphasizing transparency in how security intelligence is managed.

“We need safeguards for whistleblowers and victims who’ve been muzzled,” Abba stressed, underscoring the peril faced by those daring to speak out.

Tinubu urges faith leaders to promote harmony, reconciliation across Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged religious leaders in Nigeria to continue championing interfaith harmony, denouncing violence, and fostering reconciliation in conflict-ridden communities.

Speaking on Sunday in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, at the opening of the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), the President—represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume—emphasised the crucial role of faith leaders in shaping values and building trust among citizens.

He commended Catholic Bishops and clerics from other denominations for their consistent efforts in promoting dialogue and tolerance despite Nigeria’s cultural and religious diversity.

Tinubu noted that genuine reconciliation and national cohesion can only be achieved when spiritual leaders preach peace while discouraging extremism, hatred, and divisive tendencies.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing the root causes of insecurity and social unrest—including poverty, unemployment, and inequality—Tinubu urged religious leaders to complement government efforts by nurturing communities with values of honesty, hard work, and compassion.

“The Catholic Church has been a credible partner in the journey towards national renewal,” the President said.

“Your investments in education, health, and social welfare – often in remote and underserved communities – speak louder than words. You have stood with the people in times of hardship, provided comfort in times of grief, and raised your voice against injustice and corruption.

“I encourage you to continue speaking truth to power not only to government but to all sectors of society – while also offering constructive solutions that will help us collectively build a nation where integrity, hard work, and compassion are the hallmarks of public and private life”.

The President explained that his administration has already taken bold and decisive steps to stabilise the economy in the face of daunting challenges inherited over the years.

According to him, measures such as the removal of fuel subsidies, efforts to unify the exchange rate, and initiatives aimed at curbing leakages in public finances are designed to restore confidence in the system and create a more sustainable economic foundation.

These policies, though demanding sacrifices in the short term, he noted, are necessary to reposition Nigeria on the path of growth and long-term prosperity.

Arewa Think Tank commends Tinubu, Kyari over food price crash

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, for the recent drop in food prices across the country.

Kyari, in a recent national television appearance, explained that the government’s strategy of boosting food production while temporarily allowing imports was aimed at addressing deep-rooted “structural imbalances” in Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

In a statement, ATT Convener Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said President Tinubu’s emergency measures on food security were beginning to yield positive results, citing the reduction in food prices as evidence.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, for their efforts in reducing food prices. The decrease clearly shows that the President’s emergency measures are working,” Yakubu stated.

“It was a good decision that the federal government introduced a temporary importation window to stabilize prices without discouraging local farmers. This window allowed for the importation of essential food items like maize, husked brown rice, wheat, and cowpeas.

“What we are seeing today can be attributed to the fact that the federal government distributed 2 million bags of fertilizer to farmers free of charge, and also supported farmers with fertilizer at 50% cost. This initiative aimed to boost agricultural production and reduce reliance on imports.

“The federal government implemented various programmes to support farmers, including the distribution of improved seeds, seedlings, and agrochemicals. These efforts aimed to increase food production and availability in the country.

“According to Minister Kyari, the interventions have led to a significant reduction in food prices, which is a welcome development for Nigerians.

“This development is a result of the positive impact of the government’s policies on food security and prices, though some critics may argue that more needs to be done to address the root causes of food insecurity and ensure sustainable food systems in the country.

“We urge Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of this government because President Tinubu inherited a difficult situation in 2023 when he declared a state of emergency on food security, describing it as a “clarion call” to rescue the sector.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came at a time when there was a huge structural default in terms of food security, and that is why he had to declare the clarion call and emergency on food security in July 2023.

“We are happy that Kyari’s comments came as a direct response to President Tinubu’s fresh order to a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to “crash food prices” through swift and coordinated measures”. The statement said.

Tinubu’s support group empowers 350 Ondo indigenes to boost local business, trade

A support group for President Bola Tinubu, BTO4PBAT2027, has empowered no fewer than 350 indigenes of Ondo State with cash to boost their businesses and trade.

Speaking at the weekend in Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state, the Director-General of the group, Adesuyi Adojutelegan, said the initiative was designed to uplift enterprising citizens and support their businesses in driving economic growth.

According to him, the cash reward also aims to meet the immediate needs of grassroots residents who require the government’s attention.

Adojutelegan explained that the programme, which enjoys the backing of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of connecting citizens to government policies and ensuring they benefit from the dividends of democracy.

“The cash empowerment initiative was a key highlight aimed at addressing immediate community needs and igniting hope among local residents.

“We believe this will help them, even if in a small way, to cater for their immediate needs,” he said.

He lauded President Tinubu for implementing economic reforms that have enhanced grassroots development, boosted local businesses, and reduced excessive taxation.

Describing the president as “a leader who has brought rapid development to the country,” Adojutelegan noted that the group is committed to working towards Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“With unwavering commitment to the continued progress of our nation, this movement is geared towards the re-election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

“Proudly sponsored by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Honourable Minister of Interior, this event was a resounding success, bringing together passionate supporters, community leaders, and citizens united for a greater Nigeria,” he added.

He further urged eligible youths to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that their votes remain a fundamental right.

“I want to encourage our people in the Southwest to take advantage of online registration. If you just turned eighteen, it’s time to register. Your vote is your right, and you can only participate in the election with your voter card,” Adojutelegan said.

Also speaking, the spokesperson of BTO4PBAT2027, Folajimi Adewumi, praised Minister Tunji-Ojo for his commitment to ensuring Tinubu’s re-election.

“Tunji-Ojo, apart from being a star figure who has spearheaded rapid development in the Interior Ministry, is working tirelessly to secure President Tinubu’s victory in 2027,” Adewumi stated.

He reaffirmed that the group is determined to strengthen grassroots support and mobilize voters towards a successful re-election bid for President Tinubu.
