Kalu, Orji, others endorse Tinubu for second term

Former governors of Abia State, Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Ahamefula Orji and other political stakeholders in the state have unanimously endorsed the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for second tenure.

The political leaders made up of political office holders from 1999-2027, known as Team 1999-2007, who met in Umuahia, the state capital, at the Azikiwe residence of former governor Orji also vowed to drag the governor of the state, Dr. Alex Otti to court for running the state from his Isiala Ngwa South local government area residence.

The political leaders who expanded the team to accommodate those that served the state during Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said that the lawsuit to be filed against Otti would be to compel him to move to Government House in Umuahia and stop running the affairs of the state from his private home.

In a nine point communiqué signed by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, chairman; Senator Orji, 1st vice chairman and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, 2nd vice chairman, and read by the former national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Ike Oye, members were urged to redouble their efforts and work for the re-election of President Tinubu.

The team who also commended President Tinubu for appointing ex-Governor Ikpeazu as Ambassador designate, asked aggrieved members to forget the past and forge ahead to work for the growth of the group.

Speaking earlier, leader of the team, Senator Kalu said the group is a social cultural organisation with the aim of bettering the lots of Abians.

“The team has three ex-governors from the three senatorial zones of the state. People have called us names and accused us of doing nothing in the past 24 years, but if nothing was done, will there still be Abians?”

Describing the team as one family, Kalu urged members to forget the past and work for the future.

“I created Senator T. A Orji and he created Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, so if there is any difference between them, we are going to resolve that so we can move forward.”

Senator Orji thanked Senator Kalu and others who attended the meeting, promising they would do everything possible to move the state forward.

He urged all the members to forget the past and work for the good of the team and the state.

Former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chinedum Orji thanked Kalu for accepting to lead the team and his father, Senator Orji for hosting them.

He urged all members to close ranks in order to move the group forward and ensure a resounding victory for President Tinubu in 2027.

Other speakers, including chief Don Ubani, secretary of the Team; Eme Abali MBA and Mrs. Felicia Dimgba, all eulogised Kalu and Orji for the able way they have been piloting the affairs of the group.

They said it was unfortunate that someone would wake up overnight and boasted he was going to retire them from politics and vowed to resist any of such moves.

2027: We’ll be living in a ‘fool’s paradise’ to think we can unseat Tinubu, says Ondo PDP chair

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Modupe Aisida, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firmly in control of Nigeria’s political space, warning that it would amount to ‘living in a fool’s paradise’ for anyone to assume the President can be easily unseated ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Friday in Akure, Aisida acknowledged Tinubu’s vast political experience, expansive network, and strong grip on power, noting that these factors continue to shape the country’s political dynamics.

He said no single political party can defeat President Tinubu in 2027, stressing that the incumbent enjoys the advantages of office, political structure, and deep-rooted influence, which place him in a strong position for re-election.

Aisida said opposition parties must form a broad-based alliance, anchored by the PDP, if they are serious about wresting power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Tinubu.

“Tinubu is the incumbent President, and he is on top of his game. Anybody thinking he can unseat him alone must be living in a fool’s paradise.

“There must be collaboration. The PDP has structures in every ward, local government, and across all states. Other opposition parties can come to us for such an alliance,” he said.

He, however, clarified that the PDP was not conceding defeat or abandoning its role as the main opposition party, but rather calling for realism, introspection, and strategic reorganisation.

“There is nothing bad in this. It happened in 1999. We have to be realistic. Everywhere in the world, incumbents enjoy enormous advantages.

“If people are deceiving themselves, I’m a realist. An incumbent will always have some advantages over the opposition. So, for the opposition to compete effectively and make a real impact, they must work together,” Aisida said.

He added that the opposition PDP would have fared better in the 2023 presidential election if it had formed alliances with other opposition parties.

The Ondo PDP chairman called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness in its dealings with all political actors

He noted that credible elections would restore public confidence in the democratic process.

According to him, free and fair elections would eliminate unnecessary litigation and post-election protests while producing leaders who enjoy public legitimacy and support.

“Well-accepted elections will produce strong leadership that the people can be proud of and willing to support in policies and programmes,” he said.

Activist urges Tinubu to ‘correct injustice, waste’ of Niger Delta’s 13% derivation

Renowned Niger Delta environmental activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has urged President Bola Tinubu to correct “decades of injustice and waste” surrounding the management of the Niger Delta’s 13 per cent oil derivation fund.

He called on the President to halt the current practice of paying the derivation funds directly to oil-producing state governments and instead channel the resources into federally coordinated mega development projects across Niger Delta.

The activist, the Ibe-Serimoowei of the oil-rich Gbaramtu Kingdom in Delta State, made the call in a statement on Wednesday.

He said existing system had failed to deliver meaningful development to oil-bearing communities due to corruption, mismanagement and diversion of funds by some state governments.

Mulade said despite trillions of naira disbursed to Niger Delta states over the years as derivation funds, many communities suffered from poverty, environmental degradation, unemployment and lack of basic infrastructure.

“The 13 percent derivation fund was designed to bring development and relief to oil-producing communities, but sadly, that objective has been largely defeated.

“What we see today is massive diversion, mismanagement and misappropriation of oil derivation funds, with little or no impact on the lives of the ordinary people in the creeks and host communities,” he said.

In an earlier New Year message, Mulade urged the Federal Government to implement more people-friendly economic policies and also called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intensify development in riverine communities as year 2026 begins.

He also called on Deltans to support government efforts by maintaining peace and unity across ethnic lines, noting that “peace is essential to attracting and wooing investors who can create employment opportunities and drive development in our dear state.”

Commending Governor Oborevwori for ongoing infrastructural development in major urban centres, Mulade urged the governor to extend similar projects to riverine areas predominantly occupied by the Ijaws and Itsekiris.

The President highlighted Abegunde’s strong grassroots appeal and his reputation for professionalism, noting that his political career has witnessed “both triumphs and travails,” largely due to his loyalty to leadership and insistence on advancing the public interest.

Beyond Nigeria’s shores, Abegunde also distinguished himself professionally in the United States, serving as a Systems Engineer for the State of Maryland and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, an experience the President said underscored his versatility and global exposure.

Wike hails Tinubu on Bonny Island road construction

    • Minister: Decades of suffering have ended

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike yesterday hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ending decades of suffering experienced in crossing the Bonny Island in Rivers State.

Wike expressed gratitude to the President during his “thank you” visit to Bonny Local Government Area of the state.

The 37.8-kilometre Bodo-Bonny Road, now open to vehicular movements, provides the first-ever land connection to Bonny Island, a major oil and gas hub in Rivers State.

The FCT minister noted that the road had been a political issue for decades, with many failed promises by previous administrations until the Tinubu administration completed the project.

He hailed Works Minister David Umahi for turning President Tinubu’s dream into a reality.

“Before, each time we wanted to come to Bonny for a campaign, we would look at ourselves and say: ‘How is the tide?’ Even in a helicopter, I would see the ocean and say: ‘God, let me come back today.’

“But today, as we were coming here, I said: ‘God, may you be glorified.’ With this, tell me why Bonny Island residents will not support Mr. President?

“Bonny people, God’s time is the best, and God’s time has come. You will continue to benefit from President Tinubu’s administration,” Wike said.

The minister urged Bonny residents not to be distracted by the current political crisis in the state.

He said: “In politics, there is always a disagreement. What is important is to disagree and agree.

“When a place is united, you will see the benefits that would accrue to the people. As leaders, continue to work together so you will continue to bring more things for the people of Bonny.”

The lawmaker representing Degema-Bonny Federal Constituency, Cyril Heart, showered encomiums on Wike for championing women’s inclusion in governance in Rivers State and at the national level.

Describing the move as an “unspoken legacy” of the minister, the lawmaker recalled how Wike insisted that women must be vice chairmen of local government areas in Rivers State.

He said the National Assembly was making efforts to replicate what the minister did in Rivers State, through a Bill that would institutionalise women inclusion in governance across the country.

Also, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple, described Wike as the most “dependable, reliable and cheerful leader” of Rivers politics

Pepple also praised the minister for the numerous projects he executed in the area during his tenure as the governor.

He saluted the minister for being the first to allow the Ijaw to be governor in Rivers State.

Pepple said: “Also, for the first time in history, our people can drive from Bonny to Port Harcourt. This is an overwhelming experience.

“My father and mother didn’t experience that, but through you, Mr. President has completed that project and now you can come to Bonny by land, water, and air.

“For this and many others, we will deliver Bonny to President Tinubu in 2027.”

Bonny Island residents expressed gratitude to the President and promised to vote massively for him in the 2027 general election.

  • Kalu to Otti: Tinubu, APC will win Abia

Kalu to Otti: Tinubu, APC will win Abia

Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday  fired back at  Governor Alex Otti on his plan to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and candidates of  the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s victory in the state in 2027.

He said  the  President and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will record landslide victory  in the  general elections.

Otti few days ago  vowed to prevent  Kalu from returning to the Senate.

Kalu, who spoke with reporters in his Igbere, Abia State  home after the distribution of food items to his constituents and members of his party across the 17 local government areas,  challenged  Otti and members of his party to electoral contest.

He said  that the APC will record huge success in the  general elections against the prediction of the  governor.

Kalu, who questioned why the governor and his media team would get angry with his decision to work for his party; APC in 2027 general elections said: “You know that I have not for once said anything about the state government.

“I consider the governor as my friend and for two years I have never criticised the governor.

“No governor can deny that he isn’t aware of whatever that his Chief Press Secretary writes.

“Three days ago they shot the first arrow because I said that I will work for the APC to win.

“In 2023, we worked for him to win and we are not going to do that again; We will work for our party to win. What is wrong with that? Is that why I should receive insults? That is not acceptable to me and I am going to work for my party.

“I worked for him (Otti). Even my brother who was running for governor in APP (All Peoples Party), I called him to cooperate with him (Otti) because we were going to support him and that is the truth.”

Assessing Otti’s government in the past two years, Senator Kalu said: “If he has done better, I don’t know about that because the money that I received in eight years is what Alex Otti receives in four months.

“He is just repainting and rebuilding the roads that I built as a governor between 1999 and 2007.

“I have not seen any new major road that he has done.

“I am in the Senate. All the roads that I am doing now are new farm roads. I have not seen him go into farm road.

“Within two years, I had done what people believed in this state which made the then President Olusegun Obasanjo named me “Action Governor “.

“Under my watch in Abia, education was free, healthcare services were free. The truth is that, I have not seen what they have done.

“I know that he has tried rebuilding the road that I did; Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia road, which  stayed for so long (two years) before completion. I don’t know what they have done and why the noise in the social media. This business is not done on social media, it is done at the right time.”

“My support for him is gone. It’s for the APC now.”

On the statement that he will fail in his Senatorial ambition in 2027, Kalu said: “History will show who will fail.

“Otti said that people plans to rig should write their Will. I have never rigged election before. Nobody has ever accused me of that and I don’t do that.

“Even the people that took me to court didn’t say that I rigged election anywhere and I don’t do that and I don’t support that. We want the will of the people to prevail.

“This is two years to the election and I want to tell you that we are very prepared. I can tell you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the state. We will win the three Senatorial District seats and you will see it.

“I am on the field. Before, I use to sit in Igbere, but now, I will leave my gate for the general good of the party.”

He refuted  the claim that APC in the state was balkanised, stressing that the goal of every member of the APC  is to win election.

“I am not sure that Otti is going to join APC. I am not the owner of the party, if he (Otti) joins the party, well, what happened in 2023 will happen again.”

My words to Abians is that, the OUK that they know is back. I am back in the field. They know that when I am in the field, the masses will rejoice. I am back because I want to be back.

On why he was going back to the Senate, Kalu said: “What am I doing in the Senate that other senators are not doing? You can see that the development here is unprecedented.

“I can beat my chest to say that not up to 20 senators out of the 109 have done what I have done there in six years.

“Abia North and Abia  will be shortchanging themselves if they don’t send me back to the Senate.

“I am building roads and schools in Isiala Ngwa, I am building roads in Aba and every other place even though I am from Abia North.”

On perceived performance of Southeast political leaders who are not at par with their counterparts in other parts of the country, Kalu said: “The President is the President of all and we are still Senators . We are still running paripasu. The Class of 1999 is so blessed by God. The late President Umar Musa Yar’ Adua was Class of 1999. President Tinubu is Class of 1999. Maybe after this  President, another  governor from the Class of 1999 will become the President.

On creation of more states, the former Abia governor said: “I cannot talk about state creation because constitutional amendment is a very difficult issue and if the President has the will to do it and members of the National Assembly are united , there will be creation of another state and I support creation of one state out of the existing five states.

“My opinion might be different from others. For me, they should take somewhere in Imo, Anambra and Delta with capital in Oguta. I don’t care what name that they will call it, I have said this times without number. I am a man with fair mindedness and one who speaks the truth at all times. I believe that if the Igbo will come together and pursue the state that I am proposing, it will be  viable.

Tinubu applauds NGX N100 trillion milestone, urges Nigerians to invest more at home

    • …says NGX outperformed global markets as reforms boost investor confidence
    • …projects lower inflation, stronger naira, and higher returns in 2026
    • …urges deeper local investment as market cap signals economic rejuvenation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised corporate Nigeria, investors, and other stakeholders in the capital market for pushing the Nigerian Exchange past the historic N100 trillion market capitalization mark, describing the achievement as a powerful signal of renewed confidence in the Nigerian economy.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president said the milestone marked an inspiration for the investing public in the money and capital markets and urged Nigerians to deepen their investments in the domestic economy, assuring that 2026 would deliver even stronger returns as his administration’s economic reforms mature.

“With the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) crossing the historic N100 trillion market capitalisation mark, the country is witnessing the birth of a new economic reality and rejuvenation,” Tinubu said.

He noted that the performance of the Exchange in 2025 stood out globally despite difficult conditions in many economies.

“In 2025, while many of the world’s markets struggled with stagnation or tepid recovery, the NGX All-Share Index was on the ascent. It closed 2025 with a 51.19% return, higher than the 37.65% recorded in 2024. This performance ranks among the highest in the world. Year-to-date returns have significantly outpaced the S&P 500, the FTSE 100, and even many of our emerging-market peers in the BRICS+ group,” President Tinubu said.

According to him, the rally underscores a fundamental shift in how Nigeria is perceived by global investors.

“Nigeria is no longer a frontier market to be ignored—it is now a compelling destination where value is being discovered. As the stock market reflects the entire economy, its stellar performance is a significant indicator of the country’s economic health and the confidence investors have in our economy,” he said.

Tinubu said the gains were broad-based across sectors, pointing to resilience and innovation among listed firms, saying, “On the NGX, we have witnessed remarkable performances from listed companies across all sectors.

“From blue-chip industrial giants that have localised their supply chains, to a banking sector that has demonstrated resilience and technological innovation, Nigerian companies are proving that the country can deliver strong returns on investment,” he said.

He added that the outlook for new listings remained strong, with major implications for market depth and ownership, adding, “And we are just getting started.

“The pipeline for new and upcoming listings looks robust. More indigenous energy firms, tech unicorns, telecoms, and infrastructure-heavy entities are seeking to access the public market to fund their expansion. As these firms are listed, they will boost market capitalisation and deepen democratic ownership of the Nigerian economy,” he said.

Beyond equities, the President linked the market rally to wider macroeconomic improvements flowing from his reform agenda.

“We are not celebrating the superlative stock market performance in isolation. We are also celebrating the microeconomic effects of our reforms. After the initial headwinds that followed our reforms, we are finally seeing a bend in the inflation curve. Crucial monetary tightening and the removal of distortionary ‘Ways and Means’ financing have restored stability to the Naira,” he said.

He said policy actions and sectoral investments were already yielding results, adding, “Furthermore, investments in the agriculture sector have contributed to a consistent decline in inflation over the past eight months. From a 24-month high of 34.8% in December 2024, inflation decelerated to 14.45% as of November 2025, with projections indicating it will reach 12% in 2026.

“Indeed, inflation is likely to fall below 10 per cent before the end of this year, leading to improved living standards and accelerated GDP growth. The year 2026 promises to be an epochal year for delivering prosperity to all Nigerians,” he said.

Tinubu also highlighted improvements in Nigeria’s external position, citing current account and trade data.

“Also noteworthy is the status of our nation’s current account, a valid measure of our overall economic health. In 2024, Nigeria posted a surplus of $16 billion. According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), our current account balance is projected to rise to $18.81 billion in 2026, up from $16.94 billion in 2025,” he pointed out.

On exports and reserves, the President said Nigeria was increasingly producing and trading more competitively, saying, “under our administration, Nigeria is exporting more and importing less of what we can produce locally. Non-oil exports surged by 48% by the third quarter of 2025, totalling N9.2 trillion. Exports to Africa alone rose by 97% to N4.9 trillion. Manufacturing exports increased by 67% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, suggesting a strong close to the year.

“Nigeria’s foreign reserves have crossed the $45 billion mark, giving the Central Bank the firepower to maintain stability. The Naira has stabilised, moving away from the volatility that once fuelled speculation. The Central Bank of Nigeria, in its latest outlook, projects foreign reserves will cross the $50 billion threshold in the first quarter of 2026,” he added.

The president also drew attention to infrastructure and social sector improvements underway, saying, “We are also seeing an expansion of the rail networks, the completion of major arterial roads, and the revitalisation of our ports. With the transformative Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badgry superhighways, the nation’s infrastructure is growing.”

He said progress was also being recorded in healthcare and education.

“Our medicare facilities are improving, and medical tourism costs are declining. Our students benefit from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and universities are receiving increased research grants,” he said.

Framing the NGX milestone within a broader national journey, Tinubu said, “Nation-building is a process, not a destination. Hard work, sacrifices, and the focus of its citizens build a nation. The N100 trillion market capitalisation is a signal to the world that the Nigerian economy is robust and productive.

“As your leader, I pledge to continue working unrelentingly to build an egalitarian, transparent, and high-growth economy that will be further catalysed by the historic tax and fiscal reforms that came into full implementation from January 1″, the President said in reaffirming his commitment.
