Support, pray for Tinubu to succeed, says Fubara

Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara has called on the people to support and pray for the success of the President Bola  Tinubu-led federal government.

Fubara, who argued that 63 years was still not enough for any country to fully develop, congratulated the people for their courage and resilience to surmount the odds and challenges on the journey to nationhood.

Speaking on Sunday, October 1, at St Paul’s Cathedral Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt during an Interdenominational Church Service to mark the nation’s 63rd Independence, said the current Tinubu-led Federal Government was doing its best.

He insisted that surmounting the challenges faced by the nation required the commitment of not only the leaders at various levels of governance but also all Nigerians.

“I want to say that the new administration at the centre, is doing its best, what we owe them is our prayers and support to achieve the Nigeria of our dream”, he said.

Fubara said Nigerians had refused to be discouraged by the numerous challenges faced by the country and had chosen to remain bonded as a nation.

Despite the various challenges, he said the country had recorded some significant breakthroughs in its journey, particularly in sustaining the democratic process.

“I believe that for a country to develop, 63 years is still small, but even in all our struggles, challenges, there is still some take away, the take away can be seen in the way we have managed ourselves in the last 24 years, managing our democratic system”, he said

Describing his emergence as Governor as an act of providence, Fubara said:  “I didn’t struggle to be governor of Rivers State, God made it possible by one way or the other.

“I strongly  believe that because he had brought this responsibility upon me, he is going to lead me, He is going to make me succeed because He is God that never fails.”

Fubara assured that his administration would not renege on his promises to Rivers people, particularly in terms of security of lives and welfare of the people.

The governor commended the security agencies for their relentless efforts in fighting crime, criminality; quelling acts that threatened the sovereignty of the country and assured them of his continued support.

Fubara further charged traditional rulers to remain as fathers to everybody and to expose criminal elements in their domains as their contributions towards achieving the goal of protection of lives and property of all residents in the state.

He said: “On may 29th  when we took our oath of office, we did promise the people that we will protect lives and properties, we will do everything we can within our powers to make life better for our people.

“We are doing that. We promise to consolidate and continue on the NEW Rivers vision, and to the glory of God we have  not deviated from it, we may be experiencing some challenges, which is natural but  we are still on course, we can assure you that at the end of the day, that reason for supporting us must be achieved.”

In his sermon the Anglican Bishop of Diocese of Niger Delta North, Rt Rev Budu Wisdom Ihunwo said Nigerians should use the occasion of the 63rd Independence to reflect on the ideals of nationhood and be ready to amend  their ways and make sacrifices to put the nation on the path of progress.

Nigeria @63: Tinubu leads dignitaries, diplomats to mark anniversary

President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, October 1, led an array of national and foreign dignitaries to observe a low-key, but colourful, 63rd Nigerian Independence Anniversary at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The event, which officially took off from 10am, was a mix of various activities, including symbolic role playing by the military and entertainment performances by both the military and civilian troupes.

The Special Guest of Honour and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Tinubu, was heralded into the Forecourt, the venue of the event, at exactly 10:15am by a 14-man Scots-dressed Presidential Pipers.

He immediately took the national salute after which he inspected the abridged guards on parade mounted by the members of the nation’s armed forces.

The high point of the event saw President Tinubu, who was adorned in a traditional agbada in the national colours of green and white, conducting some ceremonial tasks such as signing the anniversary register, cutting the cake, and releasing white pigeons into the open air.

Another significant event of the day was the ceremonial Change of Guards, which is regarded as a symbolism of the hand over of state’s control from the colonial British authorities, to indigenous Nigerian rule.

Other high profile participants at the ceremony were Vice President Kashim Shettima; President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; the Chief Justice of the Federation, Olukayode Ariwoola; ministers, National Assembly members among others.

There were also numerous diplomats from various countries, including those of the United Kingdom (UK), Morocco, India, Turkey, Burundi, Ireland, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Argentina, Poland, South Africa, and Kenya.

The ceremony in Aso Villa was the first independence day celebration under the leadership of President Tinubu.

The occasion in the forecourt replaced the regular full military parade, drills and other sundry entertainments which used to hold at the popular Eagle Square in Abuja.

Since 1st of October, 2010 when the anniversary celebration was disrupted by bomb blasts at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, marked all subsequent anniversaries under his administration in the Forecourt at the Presidential Villa.

However, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration broke the jinx by marking the 58th Independence Anniversary at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

SAN tasks Tinubu to bridge gap between citizens, govt

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adeyemi Candide-Johnson has urged President Bola Tinubu to speed up efforts to bridge the gap between the people and the executive arm of government.

Candide-Johnson, in an Independence Day statement titled ‘Nigeria At 63: A Real Nation’, tasked the President to live up to the hope of the country’s young people.

He said: “President Tinubu’s primary task is to bridge the trust deficit between the people and an imperious executive, the people and their aloof legislature, and between the people and our jaded and ineffective judicial institutions, and the ordinary Nigerian.”

He warned that corruption is still a problem, but that despite the sufferings of the past, the country still stands and its leaders must now live up to the hopes of its youth.

He said: “We cannot survive a government of thieves and scoundrels.

“This land is not just our home; it is our heritage. Now we must live up to the hope of our young people, the hope and future of our nation.

“Knocked, down often downtrodden or ignored, denied of opportunity and derided for their effort and yet, they have never given up on the dream of a better Nigeria.

“And now that we have a new president, that hope must be renewed.”

Referencing the country’s 63rd anniversary, Candide-Johnson described President Tinubu as “a child of our nation.

“A man who has also suffered disappointment and privation but who has never yielded his faith in the limitless possibility of Nigeria.”

He urged Nigerians to “rejoice in the celebration of another anniversary.

“We have defied dire predictions for 63 years and we have built a nation that is greater together than any of its parts, despite war, strife, difficulties and many disappointments. We are still here and the fact of Nigeria is inevitable.”

According to the federal government, the theme of this year’s anniversary is “Nigeria at 63, renewed hope for unity & prosperity.”

UPDATED: Court orders CSU to release Tinubu’s non-privileged documents to Atiku

A United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois has directed the Chicago State University (CSU) to produce non-privileged documents on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

But the court said it will not take a position on Atiku’s claims on  the authenticity of the documents which Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the last Presidential Election.

The order was given by the Presiding Judge, Honorable Nancy L. Maldonado in a judgment on Saturday on Atiku’s application.

The order reads: “Respondent CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Requests for Production Nos. 1 through 4 (as narrowed by Judge Gilbert and adopted here) in Mr. Abubakar’s subpoena, by 12:00 p.m. (noon) CDT, on Monday, October 2, 2023.

“The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Given the October 5, 2023, filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court will not extend or modify these deadlines.”

On Atiku’s other prayers, the court said it will not take a position on the authenticity of the documents which President Tinubu submitted to INEC to contest election.

The judge said:” The Court therefore finds that the “for use in” statutory requirement under § 1782 is satisfied.

” The Court reiterates, as mentioned at the outset, that in reaching this finding the Court is not taking a position on the merits of any of Mr. Abubakar’s underlying claims as to the

authenticity of the diploma submitted to the INEC, President Tinubu’s education and graduation, or the truth of what is or is not shown in any other CSU documents that have been produced in the Nigerian proceedings. “Nor should the Court’s opinion be read as taking any position on any of the

broader claims as to the validity of the election or what the documents and discovery from CSU might or might not show.

” The Court simply finds that Mr. Abubakar has cleared the relatively low hurdle of showing that the documents he seeks could be relevant to his claims (either proving them

or disproving them) and could potentially be presented to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. “

Since August 2, 2023, Atiku has been in the US Court to OBTAIN records from the Chicago State University(CSU) to upturn Tinubu’s victory.

But on September 6, the Presidential Election Court dismissed his application and upheld Tinubu’s victory.

BREAKING: Court orders CSU to release Tinubu’s only all relevant, non-privileged documents

A United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago has ordered Chicago State University to produce President Bola Tinubu‘s “only all relevant, non-privileged documents”

academic records to People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

In her ruling on Tinubu’s emergency application in case No. 23 CV 05099, Judge Nancy L. Maldonado  directed CSU “to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Requests for Production Nos. 1 through 4 (as narrowed by Judge Gilbert and adopted here) in Mr. Abubakar’s subpoena, by 12:00 p.m. (noon) CDT, on Monday, October 2, 2023. The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023”.

On September 23, Tinubu appealed against the ruling of Judge Jeffrey T. Gilbert, sitting at the United States’ District Court of Northern Illinois which ordered the Chicago State University (CSU) to release all relevant records pertaining to him to Atiku.

Tinubu pleaded with Judge Nancy Maldonado to block all other details, especially the gender and admission records, among others of the owner of the certificate.

In the judgment on Sunday, Justice Maldonado said: “Given the October 5, 2023, filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court will not extend or modify these deadlines.”

BREAKING: Tinubu announces N25,000 additional pay for least paid worker

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled the provisional wage increment, a plan that will see the least paid Nigerian worker earning an additional N25,000 for the next six months.

President Tinubu, who unveiled this in his televised nationwide broadcast, marking the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, also disclosed that the plan was based on talks with the organised Labour, business and other stakeholders.

The Federal Government’s provisional wage increment is coming two days ahead of an impending nationwide indefinite strike called by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in protest of worsening economic crisis, occasioned by fuel subsidy removal.

The Federal Government has, however, in the last few days, made attempts at dissuading the organised Labour from embarking on a strike, considering the fragile state of things across sectors. Besides government, other stakeholders have appealed to Labour to shelf strike plans.

However, responding to Labour in his Independence Anniversary speech, President Tinubu, who lauded the Organised body for its contributions to democracy, reeled out plans, beyond the wage increment, to tackle the harsh conditions currently facing the nation.

“Based on our talks with labour, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation.

“For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month.

“To ensure better grassroots development, we set up an Infrastructure Support Fund for states to invest in critical areas. States have already received funds to provide relief packages against the impact of rising food and other prices.

“Making the economy more robust by lowering transport costs will be key. In this regard, we have opened a new chapter in public transportation through the deployment of cheaper, safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation. These buses will operate at a fraction of current fuel prices, positively affecting transport fares.

“New CNG conversions kits will start coming in very soon as all hands are on deck to fast track the usually lengthy procurement process. We are also setting up training facilities and workshops across the nation to train and provide new opportunities for transport operators and entrepreneurs.

“This is a groundbreaking moment where, as a nation, we embrace more efficient means to power our economy. In making this change, we also make history,” he said .

Nigeria @63: Olugbon drums support for Tinubu, seeks constitutional roles for monarchs

The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon Oba Francis Alao has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in his efforts to build a better Nigeria for all.

The monarch, who is the Deputy Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, also urged the President to craft constitutional roles for traditional rulers as leaders who are closest to the people.

The monarch demanded this in his Independence Day press statement in which he congratulated Tinubu and all Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 63rd anniversary.

Oba Alao added that the Nigeria of our dream can only be made possible when all citizens work together to reposition the country.

The statement reads in part: “As we celebrate this milestone, we must reflect on the legacies of our past heroes and their sacrifice for the country. It is more important than ever to work together to reposition the county to reclaim its lost glory. We all have a role to play in this, from traditional rulers to government at all levels and citizens.

“I urge Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s led administration and his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda including the developmental agendas of states and local government. It might be challenging today but in the long run, Nigerians will enjoy the dividends of democracy, considering the effort of the government.

“However, to accelerate the new and better Nigeria that we all want, we must strengthen our traditional institutions. Our advisory role is not enough, President Bola Tinubu should as a matter of importance assign an active role to the traditional institution in his government. As a strategic stakeholder, we are closer to the people and we know their concerns. For example, the British government did not relegate their monarchical institution to their constitution.

“On another note, we also need to promote our cultural heritage and made-in-Nigeria products. We are great people and blessed as a nation across different ethnic groups with cultural, human, and natural resources. To actualize some of our great potential, we need to continue to live in unity, seek dialogue, and chart a new course for the country.

“I pray for prosperity and peaceful coexistence for our dear country, by the special grace of God.”

Maharaj Ji to Timi Frank: Stop ‘unguarded’ statements against Tinubu

Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has cautioned former deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank against what he described as his unguarded statement against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

Frank recently reacted to a statement by Shettima in which he said he would “retire Atiku and teach him how to rear goats and broilers,” following the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court on petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

But Maharaj Ji has disagreed and cautioned him in a statement released through the One Love Family Minister for Information, Ojo Mogbadewa, personally signed by Maharaj Ji himself in Ibadan.

The Living Perfect Master posited that “Timi Frank has become another Bible and Quran by telling us that Atiku and Peter Obi remain the heroes of democracy in Nigeria and Nigerians will never forget their struggle for a free, fair and transparent democratic system.

According to Maharaj Ji, “Tinubu has won. Tinubu has come to lay legacies that other Presidents were not able to achieve. Be careful of false information which you know is tantamount to dishonour of our revered President Tinubu.

Low grade workers are to enjoy a provisional wage increment of N25,000 per month as part of the efforts of the Federal Government to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, President Bola Tinubu announced this morning.

The gesture will last for six months, Tinubu said in a national broadcast on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.

He said the provisional wage increment would enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation.

In the broadcast which came on the eve of the planned strike of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Tinubu said “there is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago.”

“I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future,” he said in apparent reference to criticism of the economic crisis sparked by the fuel subsidy removal.

Tinubu, who also outlined the various efforts by his administration to energise the economy, said: “On this solemn yet hopeful day, let us commend our founding fathers and mothers.  Without them, there would be no modern Nigeria.

“From the fading embers of colonialism, their activism, dedication and leadership gave life to the belief in Nigeria as a sovereign and independent nation.

“Let us, at this very moment, affirm that as Nigerians, we are all endowed with the sacred rights and individual gifts that God has bestowed on us as a nation and as human beings. No one is greater or lesser than the other.

“The triumphs that Nigeria has achieved shall define us. The travails we have endured shall strengthen us. And no other nation or power on this earth shall keep us from our rightful place and destiny.

“This nation belongs to you, dear people. Love and cherish it as your very own.

“Nigeria is remarkable in its formation and essential character. We are a broad and dynamic blend of ethnic groups, religions, traditions and cultures. Yet, our bonds are intangible yet strong, invisible yet universal.

“We are joined by a common thirst for peace and progress, by the common dream of prosperity and harmony and by the unifying ideals of tolerance and justice.

“Forging a nation based on the fair application of these noble principles to a diverse population has been a task of significant blessing but also serial challenge.

“Some people have said an independent Nigeria should never have come into existence. Some have said that our country would be torn apart. They are forever mistaken. Here, our nation stands and here we shall remain.

“This year, we passed a significant milestone in our journey to a better Nigeria. By democratically electing a 7th consecutive civilian government, Nigeria has proven that commitment to democracy and the rule of law remains our guiding light.

“At my inauguration, I made important promises about how I would govern this great nation. Among those promises were pledges to reshape and modernise our economy and to secure the lives, liberty and property of the people.

“I said that bold reforms were necessary to place our nation on the path of prosperity and growth.  On that occasion, I announced the end of the fuel subsidy.

“I am attuned to the hardships that have come. I have a heart that feels and eyes that see. I wish to explain to you why we must endure this trying moment.

“Those who sought to perpetuate the fuel subsidy and broken foreign exchange policies are people who would build their family mansion in the middle of a swamp.  I am different.

“I am not a man to erect our national home on a foundation of mud. To endure, our home must be constructed on safe and pleasant ground.

“Reform may be painful, but it is what greatness and the future require. We now carry the costs of reaching a future Nigeria where the abundance and fruits of the nation are fairly shared among all, not hoarded by a select and greedy few; a Nigeria where hunger, poverty and hardship are pushed into the shadows of an ever fading past.

“There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future.

“My government is doing all that it can to ease the load. I will now outline the path we are taking to relieve the stress on our families and households.

“We have embarked on several public sector reforms to stabilise the economy, direct fiscal and monetary policy to fight inflation, encourage production, ensure the security of lives and property and lend more support to the poor and the vulnerable.

“Based on our talks with labour, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation.

Giving an insight into his plan to restructure the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the President said a thorough housecleaning of what he called the den of malfeasance is well underway.

His words “A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.

“Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.”

On the tax policy of his government, he said: “Wise tax policy is essential to economic fairness and development.

“I have inaugurated a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve the efficiency of tax administration in the country and address fiscal policies that are unfair or hinder the business environment and slow our growth.

“To boost employment and urban incomes, we are providing investment funding for enterprises with great potential. Similarly, we are increasing investment in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

“Commencing this month, the social safety net is being extended through the expansion of cash transfer programmes to an additional 15 million vulnerable households.”

He also spoke on the security challenge in the country and pledged that government “shall always accord the highest priority to the safety of the people.

He said: “Inter-Service collaboration and intelligence sharing have been enhanced. Our Service Chiefs have been tasked with the vital responsibility of rebuilding the capacities of our security services.

“Here, I salute and commend our gallant security forces for keeping us safe and securing our territorial integrity. Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them today and their families.

“We shall equip our forces with the ways and means needed to perform their urgent task on behalf of the people.”

On appointments, he said government “shall continue to make key appointments in line with the provisions of the Constitution and with fairness towards all. Women, Youth and the physically challenged shall continue to be given due regard in these appointments.”

He thanked the National Assembly for “its role in the quick take-off of this administration through the performance of its constitutional duties of confirmation and oversight.”

He also congratulated the judiciary, which he described as a pillar of democracy and fairness, and the civil society community as well as labour unions for “their dedication to Nigerian democracy.”

He said: “We may not always agree, but I value your advice and recommendations. You are my brothers and sisters, and you have my due respect.”

He told Nigerians that while the journey ahead will not be navigated by fear or hatred, “we can only achieve our better Nigeria through courage, compassion and commitment as one indivisible unit.”

He pledged to “remain committed and serve faithfully,” and invited all to “join this enterprise to remake our beloved nation into its better self. We can do it. We must do it. We shall do it!!!”
