PEPC: Judgment validates Tinubu’s earlier victory-Uzodinma

    • Calls for close rank among political opponents

The Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has said that the verdict given by the Presidential Election Petition Court (Tribunal) validates the earlier victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25 Presidential Election for which some candidates and their political parties decided to contest.

Uzodinma who spoke through his Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku said this on Friday while speaking to The Nation.

According to the governor,  the judgment has shown democracy has come to stay despite challenges in its practice.

According to him, President Tinubu’s victory at the tribunal has clearly shown he was the duly elected President of Nigeria and indeed a victory for democracy.

“It shows once more that democracy in Nigeria is in action despite the challenges that come with its practice.”

The validation of Tinubu as the duly elected President of Nigeria places a further burden on him to be magnanimous in victory and see the whole country and its citizens as his constituency and work towards the good of all regardless of political affiliation. Good enough, the Tribunal has said that all Nigerians voted for President Tinubu and that is a loud statement that he should work for all Nigerians.

He called for close rank among the President’s opponents to move the nation forward on the path of peace and development.

“I also think that the time for the President’s opponents to close ranks, congratulate and  join him to work for Nigeria and Nigerians is now.”

He believed that the judges worked hard to come to the conclusion they had reached.

“Regarding the Tribunal judgment proper, I want to believe that the judges worked so hard to come to the conclusion they reached. The judiciary is all about facts, evidence, and the ability to prove what is alleged.

“I hope the judgment has provided the petitioners the avenue to ask themselves if actually, they did all that was judicially practicable and possible to convince the court that President Tinubu did not win the election.

“That all the five justices agreed on the judgment shows that the counsel to the petitioners needed to have worked much harder to convince at least one of the justices.

“The law is not a respecter of hearsay or sentiment but rather a slave to hard facts, evidence and truth. But more importantly, the judgment has shown that the counsel who did not win today could win tomorrow if they do the right thing.”

Youth Assembly Speaker urges President Tinubu to appoint Dauda Adamu as Youth Minister

Rt. Hon. Olakunle Gbotifa, Speaker of Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Lagos State, who doubles as the National Leader of the Tinubu Youth Organization (TYO), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Hon. Dauda Adamu as the Minister of Youth.

Speaking with journalists after the Assembly’s plenary session, the member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council said youth parliamentarians were instrumental to the emergence of the President.

Adamu, one of the TYO leaders, is a graduate of Banking and Finance from the premier Igbinedion University Okada and holds a Master’s Degree in Management and Finance from one of the Ivy League Universities in the United Kingdom.

Gbotifa noted that Adamu was one of the promising youths who enjoyed President Tinubu’s transformative initiatives in the education sector during his eight-year tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.

“We recall the provision of free education in all public primary and secondary schools, payment of fees for WAEC/NECO examinations and internal examinations to ensure that students, irrespective of origin, did not drop out of school. Mr Adamu, like thousands of other students, was positively impacted by this compassionate policy.

“Another milestone legacy of Asiwaju’s mentorship which gave young people seats at the table was an initiative of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu adopted by the State Government, namely the Spelling Bee competition which made any student who emerged as the winner to serve as a symbolic One Day Governor of Lagos.

“Interestingly, Hon. Adamu’s alma mater, Model College, Badore in Eti-Osa LGA, produced the first female winner of the competition. As someone who showed great leadership skills early in life, it was not a surprise that Mr Adamu was selected as one of the students who formed the symbolic cabinet of the One Day Governor.

“It is, therefore, not out of place to state that the quality education that the Lagos Government under the leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu provided at the time (and still provides) contributed in no mean ways to the solid educational background that has helped Mr Adamu to become the man he is today.

“Mr President, Sir, the then young boy from Taraba State, for whom the pursuit of academic excellence made to cross path with a destiny changer which Your Excellency are, might become the first among the direct beneficiaries of your progressive education policy in Lagos State to have a seat in your federal cabinet.

“It is also important to state that Mr Adamu has a rich political experience. As a committed member and one of the most respected youth leaders in All Progressives Congress (APC), in addition to other party roles at different times, he served as a member of the Asiwaju-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

“He was visibly and actively involved in the campaigns across Nigeria in order to get the APC and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, elected during the 2023 presidential election.

“Mr Adamu has exemplified impeccable leadership strides in most of the responsibilities assigned to him that were youth-oriented, and with his wide network within the business, political and civil society spaces, we believe that, if appointed, he would work diligently to actualise the President’s Renewed Hope agenda for Nigerian youths.

“This will deliver mutually benefiting dividends for both the government and Nigerian youths as well as strengthen the President’s well-known commitment to mentorship of young leaders,” the statement added.

    NESG endorses Tinubu’s 8-point agenda

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s eight-point agenda.

A statement from the NESG said the Tinubu administration’s agenda is designed to improve the country’s economic situation and help it overcome the current economic challenges in Nigeria.

The NESG specifically mentioned the World Bank’s forecast of an average annual economic growth rate of 2.9 percent for Nigeria between 2023 and 2025.

This forecast, the NESG said, indicates the possibility of positive change and improvement in the country’s economic situation.

It said that if everyone works together and puts in their effort, Nigeria can successfully navigate these challenges and experience economic growth.

According to the NESG, “these challenges are worsened by an uneven allocation of resources, macroeconomic instability, and institutional deficiencies. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in 2022 revealed that approximately 62.9 percent of the population live in multidimensional poverty, threatening the development of a vibrant middle class.

“With population growth outpacing poverty reduction, Nigeria’s current trajectory highlights the critical need to prioritise long-term development and shared prosperity”.

The NESG noted that “technological advancements and their increasing adoption offer glimpses of what can be achieved with the proper mechanisms. The change in political leadership also brings the opportunity for fresh ideas and the rectification of economic policies that have weakened the fiscal system.”

The group advocated for constructive dialogue that incorporates the ideas of stakeholders.

It assured: “NES 29 would build on the legacy of previous summits to nudge the public and private sectors to co-create solutions that drive shared prosperity.

“In the context of a new government administration, there is an undeniable need to reinvigorate our efforts to achieve sustainable economic development.”

At the recent inauguration of the NESG and Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning’s Joint Planning Committee for NES 29 in Abuja, the NESG emphasised that the primary goal of this year’s Summit is to enhance the economic agenda setting of the government.
