Tinubu is our leader, says Kogi Gov Bello

    •Berates Dino Melaye

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, yesterday pledged his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying the state under him has continued to benefit from Tinubu’s wealth of experience.
Bello also affirmed his respect for the party hierarchy.
But he berated Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) for what he called the Senator’s unbridled media attack on his (Bello’s) person.
The governor spoke through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Pius Kolawole, at a press conference in Lokoja, the state capital.
The people of Kogi West, Bello stressed, have never had it so good in the state with their sons occupying such positions as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and some key ministries unlike what obtained in the previous administration in Kogi.
He expressed surprise that instead of representing the interest of his people at the National Assembly well, Senator Melaye has been busy fighting ‘a selfish and egocentric’ cause.
He was particularly shocked by the alleged religious coloration which Melaye imputed into some of his (governor’s) actions.
Such imputations, he claimed, were capable of creating tension in an otherwise religiously tolerant state, like Kogi.
Kolawole, who was with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Bello Abdullahi added: “Coming back home, we wish to reaffirm for the umpteenth time that His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello remains the number one leader of the APC in Kogi State, and there is no type of gimmicks adopted by Senator Dino Melaye and his cohorts can do.
“His Excellency also knows and recognises Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the National Leader of our great party, the APC. We respect him, and we tapped from his resources and wealth of experience.
“We are also loyal to him and respect constituted authorities of the party. We will also stand by the authority and resist anyone that tries to use these resources negatively.
“The people Kogi West have not enjoyed any dividend of good representation from Dino since he was sent to the National Assembly.
“All he does is to engage in useless fight with colleagues and associates. Where is the quality representation he promised his people?
“Governor Yahaya Bello has flagged off numerous projects in the
senatorial district which Dino is supposed to be representing, yet he doesn’t see anything good in the government, simply because the governor has refused to be used to achieve the selfish interest by Dino Melaye”.

How we defeated PDP in 2015 – Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday revealed how the party defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.

Tinubu spoke on a lecture at the 25th Course of the National Defence College held in Abuja.

The theme of the lecture was: Strategic Leadership: “My political Experiences.”

The former Lagos State governor said events leading to the 2015 general elections showed that the people were ready for change and his party developed a strategic leadership and determination to achieve the change.

Tinubu said he realized that standing as separate parties; the opposition stood no chance in defeating the ruling party.

He said, “We had tried that path before; it led to defeat in 2011. A strategic rethink was needed, to attain the goal of ousting the PDP and placing Nigeria on the road to progressive governance. The strategic linchpin would be the merger of opposition parties.”

“Time is inadequate to recount the complex journey toward the merger.  My firm position was that only a merger would work. Anything short of that would disintegrate due to a combination of PDP enticement and the internal pressures arising from the strong identification of many politicians with their legacy parties. An ad-hoc alliance would be put asunder by these factors.

“Our push for a merger of the old parties into a new entity carried the day.  We would join hands to form a collective identity. The CPC and my party, ACN, ANPP along with progressive elements of the APGA formed the party. Key elements of the PDP would later join.  For this amalgamation to work, it had to be more than an anti-PDP gathering. It had to present a genuine and positive message that spoke to people’s hopes and aspirations.”

The APC leader said the new merger then needed a theme of change that would resonate with the mood of the country.

He said sweeping out the old and bringing in the new became a priority.

“We developed the theme of change as our strategic message. The broom became an apt party symbol. We would sweep out the old, sweep in the new and work hard towards prosperity for our country.

“We fashioned a tripartite campaign and strategy message – security, economy and corruption.  We would drive these three messages home as if with military artillery. However, we have only our leadership and strategic hammer,” he added.

Tinubu’s private plane flies Jammeh into exile

More details of the peaceful battle to restore democracy in The Gambia became known yesterday.

After days of stand-off, former President Yahya Jammeh suddenly agreed to quit office, yielding to last-minute pressure from Guinean President Alpha Conde and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz, who were with him between Friday and Saturday.

After agreeing to leave and save The Gambia from a major crisis, Jammeh was confronted by big challenge –  how to fly out.

The leaders, The Nation learnt, reached out to All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who authorised his private aircraft to be used to fly Jammeh out of Banjul, sources said.

Jammeh’s exit paved the way for the return of President Adama Barrow to take office after he was sworn in on Thursday in Dakar, Senegal.

Tinubu’s VP-CBT Falcon Jet had been with President Conde, who is a close friend of the leading politician.

It was not until late on Saturday night that Jammeh agreed to go. Sources said Tinubu was contacted to allow the use of his jet to fly Jammeh out of Banjul.

He reportedly gave a condition: it should only be used “if it will facilitate the quick exit of Jammeh and lead to the restoration of peace and democracy in The Gambia”.

The plane eventually flew out with Jammeh, his wife, mother and President Conde on board.

Senegal, it was learnt, insisted on knowing those on board before allowing it to overfly its airspace.  This wish was granted.  Jammeh was flown to Equitorial Guinea where he will be on exile

Jammeh arrived at the airport amid a large convoy of vehicles and throngs of cheering supporters.

He stood on a small platform to hear ceremonial music performed by a military band and then walked down a long red carpet, surrounded by dignitaries.

He climbed the steps to the plane, turned and kissed and waved a Qur’an at those assembled.

It was an emotional farewell. Many soldiers, supporters and dignitaries were crying. Others in The Gambia were glad to see the end of a 22-year dictatorship which had little respect for human rights and freedom of speech.

Ekiti Afenifere hails Akande, Tinubu’s peace moves in southwest

The leadership of the Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere, pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organization, yesterday expressed satisfaction with moves made to reconcile some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the southwest.

The group hailed efforts of former APC Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in resolving differences among leading party members at a meeting held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, last week.

In a joint statemen, Ekiti Afenifere Chairman, Elder Yemi Alade and Publicity Secretary, Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae, described the meeting as “very timely and capable of dousing the tension in the party following the Ondo State governorship primary election.

The group appealed for better understanding and regular meetings of critical stakeholders across the spectrum of the party.

  • Tinubu: Nigeria’ll fulfil its destiny

    Tinubu: Nigeria’ll fulfil its destiny

National stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has congratulated Nigerians for making it to the New Year.

In a statement by his Media Office, Asiwaju Tinubu said: ”The last year witnessed a lot of sacrifices on the part of Nigerians. The government of APC is mindful. It is the necessary pain before the gain. As we move into a new year the pains will ease off in certain areas as the policies and initiatives of the Buhari-led government begin to yield, needed relief and dividends.

Tinubu said Nigeria had begun on a journey and a path of sacrifice not of our choosing but brought upon us all because a few chosen to lead have led without vision, compunction or compassion. “Now that we have a leadership that is committed, focused and people oriented, we must align to make Nigeria work.  We are a people blessed by God and destined to be great. The path to greatness is often not smooth. But I am confident that Nigeria will arrive and fulfill her manifest destiny. Let us all in 2017 pray and hope for a new county where feeding and shelter will not be a challenge and more of our people will find work to do.

“Happy new year and God bless our nation.”

Tinubu hails fall of Sambisa forest

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has congratulated the country, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Army over the capture of Sambisa Forest, the last stronghold of Boko Haram terror sect.
Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole finally entered Boko Haram’s Camp Zero located in the heart of Sambisa Forest on Friday and crushed the insurgents.
In a statement by his Media Office, the former Lagos governor also commended the troops for their bravery and resilience, asking them to now move to establish their hold on the area.
Tinubu said: “I congratulate the nation, President Buhari and the army for crushing Boko Haram in their last stronghold of Sambisa Forest. I congratulate the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole for their bravery and resilience. They have given the nation a most wonderful Christmas gift.
“I know the insurgents were engaged in their last desperate acts and merely clutching to their last straw. Now they have been put down. Terror will have no place in our land. The end is here.
“I commend the troops. I thank them again for their courage and bravery. It’s time to finish the job and locate and liberate the remaining Chibok schoolgirls abducted from their school in 2014.
”As we sink ourselves in the Christmas celebration, let us remember to pray for the troops. Let us remember that for them, there was no Christmas.
“Let us also spare a thought for the Internally Displaced Persons. We must support them and give them hope”.

Politician greets Tinubu, APC faithful at Christmas

A chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Marine Capt. Adebayo Dosunmu, has felicitate with the Jagaban Borgu and the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC stalwarts at the Federal, state and local government levels on the celebration of this year’s Christmas.
The politician wished his people in Amuwo Odofin a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
Dosunmu noted that Asiwaju Tinubu remained a political icon and legendary leader, having risen from a humble background to provide credible leadership for the masses and establish a new socio-political order founded on the rule of law.
He prayed that in 2017, Asiwaju Tinubu would continue his inspirational leadership and service to mankind, which had always been his traits.
He also prayed Allah to guide and provide the resources for the nation’s progress to the party’s leadership.
Dosunmu urged APC faithful to remain steadfast “as we begin the journey for a prosperous 2017”.

Lake rice: Tinubu hails Lagos, Kebbi partnership

Former Lagos State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Bola Tinubu has described the partnership between Lagos and Kebbi states, which produced Lake Rice, as the beginning of the country’s renaissance.
Tinubu was commenting on the local production of Lake Rice by the two states, which is helping the country meet its rice requirement.
Lake Rice is being offered to the public at a relatively cheaper price.
In a statement in Lagos by his Media Office, the former governor praised Governors Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) and Atiku Bagudu for the partnership, saying the two had led the way in the country’s rebirth and recovery.
“Lake Rice has offered us a great example of what can be done through partnership between and among states. The successful partnership between Lagos and Kebbi states is commendable. They have responded to the growing demand for rice and have bridged local supply rather than engage in further importation. It is the beginning of Nigeria’s renaissance.
“The purpose of the merger between Northwest and Southwest has manifested in solving a real life problem. Indeed, the change APC promised is manifesting.”
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the production of Lake Rice was signed between Ambode and Bagudu in March.

  • Tinubu to Nigerians: Let’s become example, beacon to other nations

Tinubu to Nigerians: Let’s become example, beacon to other nations

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday threw a challenge to Nigerians on the occasion of the Christmas: they must keep up the hope.

This, Tinubu said in a goodwill message, was necessary to enable the country the problems now facing it.

“We must learn from the example of Jesus who faced and overcame the greatest evil. We also can overcome what now faces us, and do so in a manner that elevates the nations to become its better self. We can do so in a way that, how we overcome, becomes an example and a beacon to other nations,” he said.

Continuing, the former Lagos State governor said: “Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, which makes it one of the most precious days of the year. Yet, Christmas is also what we make of it.

“Too often we are directed to focusing on the superficial and material aspects of what have become the modern celebration of this revered day. This season, we have a choice to make: we can continue to celebrate the commercial Christmas that has been given us or we can return to the wellspring and the true meaning of this special day.

“Be you Christian, Muslim or adherent of any other religious belief with a soul that yearns for peace, compassion and hope, Jesus Christ belongs to all of us. His teachings are universal in application and speak of truths eternal. He gave us so much, yet asked of us so little. He was born in meagre circumstances, yet rose to change the world for the better and to teach us all a better way.

“This Christmas, yes, let us acknowledge his birth but let’s give that acknowledgement its fullest meaning by recognising how Jesus lived and what he lived for. He reached out to all. Jesus fed the poor and healed the sick. He spread compassion and charity and preached love and justice. There are no finer aims than these and we can do no better than to do all we can to follow his examples. While we can never achieve his perfection, we can strive to do as he instructed.

“At this moment, it is time for all Nigerians, Christians and non-Christians alike, to set aside the artificial differences that too often divide us and pit brother against brother, neighbour against neighbour. We must dedicate ourselves to focusing on our common humanity because we all seek much the same thing for ourselves and loved ones. We all eat, sleep, love, worry, lament, cry, laugh, smile, dream and hope. Yes, our names and religious beliefs differ; some go to church, some to mosque. Some to other places of worship; some, perhaps not at all. Yet, we all seek a better world and a better Nigeria.

“Thus, may we all embrace and spread the gospel of love, tolerance and forgiveness this season and into the New Year. We must commit ourselves to peace and unity. Let us eschew all bitterness and bigotry. The challenges that face the country are difficult ones. But we keep up the hope. We must learn from the example of Jesus who faced and overcame the greatest evil. We also can overcome what now faces us, and do so in a manner that elevates the nations to become its better self. We can do so in a way that, how we overcome, becomes an example and a beacon to other nations. This is what Jesus would want of us. This is what we must do!”

He added, “We must not lament our circumstance. Instead, we must unite to overcome them. We must support and complement government’s efforts to stimulate the economy and put down the recession. We pray for peace throughout the land and support President Muhammadu Buhari in his determined strategy to fully break the terrorism of Boko Haram.

“We pray for the men in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe and to end this scourge on the nation. I commend our troops battling the terrorists. I thank them again for their courage and bravery.  We pray for those who have been dispossessed of their houses and home by the evil of these terrorists and pray that, in the New Year, they all will be able to return home and to begin their lives anew.”

  • Mimiko, Tinubu and conscience

The amazing thing about the outgoing Governor Segun Mimiko of Ondo State is his sneaky ways and his cult-like hold on those now popularly described as “political slaves” assembled in his “information ministry” required to churn out juvenile lies in manner that not only defies common-sense but also assaults their human dignity as a person.

Having got his fingers burnt in the November 26 polls in Ondo State, Governor Mimiko or “Iroko to gbabode” (bewitched Iroko) appears resolved to spend his last days in office deploying these “bare-foot slaves” according to Mr. Anthony Orimolade, to rationalize his Judas roles in the recent past. No wonder the few wise ones among them prefer to answer fake names.

I say this based on my extrapolation from the latest example of two obviously commissioned “rejoinders” to an article by The Nation columnist, Mr. Louis Odion on December 2 with the title “Mimiko: Profile in treachery”.

As compulsive reader of fine columnists paraded by The Nation, I had read Odion’s original take on the Ondo polls and dare say that it is consistent with the objectivity and courage Odion has been known for, for upward of 16 years of column-writing.

But rather than answer the charges of perfidy, treachery and infamy mentioned in the column, Mimiko and his media “running-dogs” have resorted to more lies and personal attacks.

So incompetent, this bunch of intellectual “Agbero” (touts) made further fool of themselves by peddling fabrications and idiotic lies as gospel, against facts that are clearly well known about the columnist. Who, for instance, does not know that Odion voluntarily resigned his appointment as information commissioner under the action governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole after four years of unblemished service and goes down in history as the only commissioner in Oshiomhole’s entire eight glorious years to be formally honoured with a state banquet before exit? You may be entitled to your opinion, but certainly not your own facts.

I thought the posers by the columnist were clear enough: Did Mimiko betray the workers by selling Labour Party to PDP? Of course, the answer is yes. Did “Iroko to gbabode” betray Dr. Segun Agagu who made him SSG or not? The answer is yes. Did he betray Asiwaju Bola and Jimoh Ibrahim who had offered him moral and financial support? The answer is yes. Did he in 2012 cut off the access road to Adaba FM station which ironically provided him a platform while fighting PDP in 2007/2008? The answer is yes!

Today, Governor Ayodele Fayose has demonstrated good faith by standing by Mimiko in his hour of trauma and depression. The same Fayose who Mimiko, a doctor not known to have administered an injection in the last two decades other than playing Judas politics, used to refer to as “school drop-out”. What a traitor!

First to bare his crooked fangs was one “Imefv Efuda” who claimed to be writing from “Abuja”. Another storm-trooper joined the orchestrated attack on the columnist on Sunday (December 18) in Thisday with another hatchet job entitled “Mimiko: Reading Louis Odion’s diatribe” under the pen-name “Tunde Olosunde”. From their tones, one does not need to be clairvoyant to know that they are the handiwork of the “bare-foot slaves” operating from the smoke-filled propaganda (sorry, information) ministry in Akure.

Well, I believe Odion, a multiple award-winning writer who became an editor at age 26 in the famous Concord newspaper in 1999, is competent enough to defend himself against the slew of slander and libel by this band of never-do-well and “e-rats” and their discredited paymaster.

The reason why I say Mimiko is irredeemable is another bare-faced lie by his publicists in their “rejoinders” on the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The columnist had listed Tinubu among those who helped Mimiko while he was struggling to reclaim his mandate between 2007 and 2008. As a keen watcher of Ondo politics, I have my own testimony. I recall that Mimiko was often holding press conferences in Lagos during the “struggle days” with the assistance of some Tinubu boys and was a regular face at Asiwaju Tinubu’s Bourdillon home.

In fact, I recall running into him twice or thrice at Tinubu’s residence looking famished and desperate in his faded Batik shirt, chino trousers and sandals with worn soles, with a colonial-style reading glasses tied round his neck with a rope. He would eat lunch and dinner there before leaving for where to sleep for the night, only to come back the following day. Like snake, he cleverly hid in the grass before he struck.

It is also public knowledge that Asiwaju not only provided him material resources but also moral support. How treacherous of Mimiko today to now try and downplay the help he received from Asiwaju. To now insinuate like “Olosunle” did that Mimiko did not ask Asiwaju to go extra mile in raising a crack legal team for his case is the most satanic thing to say.

Also, how Godly is it to suddenly turn around and label your old benefactor a “godfather” in 2012 when it was yet pleasurable and convenient for you to eat from his table in 2007/2008? If you are incapable of gratitude to man that is visible and alive for help, how are we to believe you sincerely believe and appreciate God that has never been seen?

Pray, if Mimiko now claims Tinubu played no role in the retrieval of his mandate in 2008, can he also swear that he was never at Tinubu’s Lagos residence at all and received no kobo and did not eat any rice or “amala”? We know he is a fake Christian and so will not ask him to swear by Bible. Like someone already suggested, I also dare him to swear by the “Otumokpor” (local deity) in his native Ondo. I know Mimiko will be scared because that one answers “by fire, by thunder” instantly.

When someone harbours this kind of shamelessly deceitful mind-set, one is at a loss whether it is the same Mimiko pictured recently in many national dailies bowing piously before the Daddy G.O of Redeemed Church, Pastor E. Adeboye, during the December Holy Ghost week at the Redeemed Camp in Ogun State. Lord have mercy!

How convenient to demonize Asiwaju today. But without Tinubu’s extra-ordinary effort to help you Mimiko fight that injustice, would you have been governor in 2008?

    Well, there is God o!

Given his treacherous pedigree, I can bet with my last kobo that Mimiko will soon decamp to APC, forget that he was allegedly responsible for the media brouhaha over Buhari’s school certificate in 2014. It is a question of time.

Ogunwale writes from Owo, Ondo State.
