    D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade thrill at Gidi Fest

    With over 3,000 fun lovers in attendance, Lagos, the commercial nerve of Nigeria came alive on Saturday, March 26, as the annual Gidi Fest held sway. The third in its series, the 2016 edition of the annual music festival has been described as the best yet.

    The event kicked off with social activities like beach soccer and volleyball tournaments, an Art Installation and food court and of course, music.

    Gidi Fest’s main stage opened with performances by comedian Ogbolor. With their dynamic energy, the hosts, Nigeria’s Sensei Uche and Skhanda Queen, Nomuzi kept the crowd entertained from opening to closing by 7pm.

    The headliner Tiwa Savage didn’t fail to serve hits from both her old and new R.E.D albumS.

    Other performances of the night included Phyno, IKON, Chopstix, GGB Dancers, 2 Star General and Godwin Strings, Yemi Alade, South Africa’s K.O and Riky Rick.

    Olamide’s protégé and Headies award winner Adekunle Gold was not left out in thrilling Lagosians as he performed his major hits.

    It was a triple header for the ladies. Rachel Kerr, a celebrated vocalist from London, gave an emotive performance to ring in the Easter holiday. The crowd cheered as Timaya hit the stage performing his greatest hits. Next came street hop sensation Small Doctor’s memorable performance where he climbed the stage pillars to everybody’s surprise. With the help of the GidiSquad, Heineken presented the Take Over alongside DJ OBI.

    Gidi Fest ’16 however closed with global superstar Dbanj who has broken countless chart records. With one of the most enviable catalogues in music, Dbanj’s set stretched from 20 minutes to 45minutes as the Koko Master took the crowd through songs spanning his decade plus career. Bringing super fans on stage and hosting a dance competition, Dbanj closed out Gidi Fest ’16 by bringing the festival vibes to a roaring high-point.

    Gidi Fest beach party is produced by Eclipse Live Africa and supported by Eko Atlantic, Lagos State and Heineken with support from Red Bull, Mikano, Eko Hotel, Hyperia, HRG and Skyy Vodka.

    The impact of Social media on the Entertainment industry in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, given that entertainers (Musical Artistes) were among the first Nigerians who embraced the new media and have remained on top of the list of users in Nigeria and across the world.

    That Tiwatope Savage- Balogun, stage name Tiwa Savage recently hit the one million follower mark on Instagram is no longer news. She has however recorded a music video to celebrate this feat. The video shows the singer having lunch with her cute son. She has this to say to her beloved fans: “What a beautiful day, you guys make me feel so special. I love all one million of you guys . . . . lol, my son is clearly not bothered.”

    In the photo she posted on Instagram, she was holding a wine glass in a restaurant. The picture was captioned, ‘A milli on IG.’

    Songs like Standing Ovation off her latest album, R.E.D, which she features Olamide, boss of YBNL Nation, has been trending.

    The songwriter and actress  who is as popular for her raunchy stage costumes as she is for her talent is a 2007 graduate of the Berkeley College of Music who started as a background singer for the likes of Mary J. Blige, George Michael, Sting, Spice Girls and Kelly Clarkson.

    The Mavins Records First Lady has since her graduation, worked with music producers within and outside the country, co-writing Collard greens and Cornbread; a track on Fantasia Barrino’s Grammy nominated Back To Me album, while signed on with Sony USA Record Label. The entertainer is also the co-owner of 323 Entertainment with partner, TJ.

  • Pepsi stars Wizkid, Tiwa Savage thrill fans at One Lagos Fiesta

    Pepsi music ambassadors; Wizkid and Tiwa Savage led the pack of top artistes who ushered fans into the New Year with their performances on the last day of One Lagos Fiesta, a one-week show which replaced the annual Lagos Countdown show.

    Thousands of Lagosians had thronged the Pepsi co-sponsored event at several centres in Lagos, as they celebrated 2015 while welcoming 2016 with joy and expectations.

    The massive crowd that came were excited as their favourite artistes held them spellbound with mesmerising performances.

    Tiwa who was part of the Mavins crew sang from her rich repertoire including ‘Eminado’ and ‘Girlie-o’, her duet with Patoranking which had the crowd singing along. Wizkid who wore wine Safari attire came on stage waving the ‘One Lagos Fiesta’ flag before setting the stage on fire with his popular song ‘Surulere’, which he called the “new national anthem.”

    The Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode who sat close to the stage danced all through the night. Ambode thanked Pepsi and other sponsors who have over the years kept Lagosians happy and expectant of a better future with platforms such as One Lagos Fiesta. The Governor promised a better Lagos in 2016 with the cooperation of every Lagosian especially corporate citizens like Pepsi and the other sponsors who have been engaging the youths in constructive activities.

    Brand Manager, Seven-up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Segun Ogunleye said: “Pepsi celebrates the Nigerian youth and supports their passion points such as music and football. One Lagos Fiesta offers a positive way to celebrate last year and welcome the New Year, which is why Pepsi has been sponsoring the event.”

    Other artistes that performed were R&B crooner Darey, rap icon Olamide, Timaya, Waje, Simi, Nomoreloss, Sasha, Sexy Steal, DJ Cuppy, Don Jazzy and the Mavins: Dr. Sid, Tiwa Savage, Dija, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, D’Prince and Chocolate City’s crew with Ice Prince and Jessy Jags.

    Gbenga Adeyinka The 1st, the host of the event cracked ribs with AY chipping in a joke or two that made the audience go wild in laughter.

    The One Lagos Fiesta was held in Victoria Island, Agege, Ikorodu, Badagary and Epe.

    First lady of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty, Tiwa Savage, is leaving no room to chance in promoting her sophomore album, RED. RED, an acronym for Romance, Expression and Dance, was released on Saturday and has 16 tracks. The songs also features collaborations with Don Jazzy, Olamide, Dr Sid, Iceberg Slim, 2Face, DPrince, Busy Signal and Reekado Bankz.

    As part of the promotion of RED, Tiwa and the entire Mavin crew, on Saturday, began spurring their fans on an ‘I am RED’ campaign on social media.

    “We want you all to join us in the #RED movement,” Tiwa who had a baby this year tweeted.

    “Create your own by visiting http://www.i-am-red.com “

    On the website, fans’ images are uploaded and using words beginning with R, E, and D, define their essence.

    Creating his own, Don Jazzy, with a picture of himself, set in a hue of red, got a display of ‘I am Razz, Enigma, Dorobucci.’

    Though the music is available on the mtnonline platform, the artiste said that physical copies of the album are not out yet.

    ‘Physical copy will be out next week,’ tweeted Tiwa.

    SMD seems intent on painting the town red as the twitter handles of members of the Record label (Don Jazzy, Di’Ja, Korede Bello), were in red colour.

    Di’Ja tweeted from her account, @aphroDIJA, ‘I am Renewed EveryDAY R.E.D @tiwasavage album is red hotttt!!!! donjazzy @altimsmavin @freshmavin… ‘

    Although Reekado Bankz Twitter account was his picture, the artiste nevertheless showed love.

    On Sunday, the campaign continued as Tiwa took to twitter to say, “Happy Sunday Everybody” with the image of a clasped hand as if in prayer and the hashtag #IamRED.

    Tiwa’s debut album, Once Upon A Time, came out on in July 2013.

    NIGERIAN music diva Tiwa Savage is avoiding the paparazzi-focus on her new born child.

    The artiste, on Sunday, perfectly ducked the capturing lens of a photographer as she attended the opening of Oriki products range. The event took place on Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Not satisfied, Tiwa, who clutched her new born baby, scrolled through the photographer’s camera to confirm he did not take pictures of her and her baby. It was several minutes later before the photographer was left to go.

    Photographs of Tiwa’s baby which she had in July have not been published. When she gave birth to her child, it was Banky W that announced the birth on social media. The Instagram picture at that time only showed the baby’s feet.

    After so much anticipation, Mavin Records First Lady Tiwa Savage yesterday put to bed. She gave birth to a baby boy.

    The singer’s husband and manager, Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun, broke the news when he shared photo, holding baby’s hand. The caption he. “Thank You Jesus….”

    Several artistes took to the social media to felicitate with the couple. One of the first to rejoice with the Baloguns was singer Nikki Laoye. “Yaay! Baby Mavin has arrived. Congrats to you @teebillz323 and my dear sister @officialtiwasavage,” she posted on Instagram.

    Tiwa’s label mate Reekado Banks also sent in his felicitations on Instagram; “Big congrats mama .. @officialtiwasavage .. Big congrats papa @teebillz323.”

    Mavin Record’s honcho, Don Jazzy congratulated the celebrity couple on Twitter and also on Instagram. “Congrats to Mavin First Lady @officialtiwasavage and Mr @Teebillz323 on the delivery of their bouncing baby boy. We thank The lord. Yayyyyyy turn up time. #DoroBaby,” he wrote

    “To God be the glory great things he has done and he will still do in our lives. Welcome our baby! Congrats @teebillz323 and @officialtiwasavage. Oluwa a da si o! Ire a kari!,” Funke Akindele also wrote.

    For former head of Chocolate City, Audu Makori, the birth signals ample reasons to celebrate. “Congrats to @teebillz323 and @officialtiwasavage for unto them a child is born,” he posted.

    Other celebrities who have joined in congratulating the singer are Rugged Man, MI Abaga, D’prince, Cecil Hammond, Waje among others

    Mavin Records pop star, Tiwa Savage has put to bed.

    Her husband and manager, Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun shared a photo of him holding a new born baby’s hand on Instagram with the caption “Thank You Jesus” on Thursday.

    In an Instagram post, Don Jazzy congratulated Tiwa and Tee Bills, announcing that the child is a “bouncing baby boy”.

    The new baby is the couple’s first child.

    THAT music diva, and Mavin Records’ First Lady, Tiwa Savage, is on a nine-month course is no longer news. The news is that the songstress is in the last trimester and really heavy. Diva or not, the hot lady has been tweeting about her experience as an expectant mother, and how she can’t wait to put to bed and be out and about.

    Apparently, Tiwa’s formerly svelte form has totally changed to the natural expectant mother’s shape, while her sexy gait has changed to a shuffle.

    In her tweets, she writes, “The very last part of pregnancy can be very emotional . . . A part of you just wanting the baby out because of the physical strain it has over your whole body but a part of you will miss those precious private moments that only you and your baby share . . . moments when your baby kicks or moves and only both of you experience it, when you feel hiccups or when you know baby is sleeping or awake. . . this is the most spiritual, emotional, physical journey I have ever been through and I will miss getting away with so much, especially with hubby like him getting me food in the middle of the night, helping me put my shoes on, comforting me when I’m crying over silly things like it’s raining outside or because I feel unattractive. Sorry @teebillz323 soon be over am so blessed. God has been faithful to me.”

    This is her first baby with spouse Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun who is already a father of two.
