    It was a night of glamour and fun as artistes and fans of The Beat FM 99.9 turned out in style for the celebration of its fifth anniversary tagged The Tripple 9 Concert on Tuesday, September 30, at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The CEO of Beat FM, Chris Ubosi said the concert was held to celebrate those who had supported the station in the last five years.

    “We came here with a plan. We knew the circumstances before we entered into the business. With the goodwill that we have plus support from a lot of our friends, we have been able to overcome our challenges. There have been problems, which we will not lie about. But the fact that we were able to get to where we are shows that with hard work and proper planning, everything can go well in this country,”

    Also, the station’s Programme Director, Olisa Adibua, described the last five years as “wonderful years”, adding that “It has been a fantastic ride. We have been embraced by the people of Nigeria; we have been surprised at the way they embraced us and we are grateful for the love they have shown us. We hope that we can retain the level and quality of what we started. We are celebrating five years of being in existence in Nigeria and we hope to get better as time goes on.”

    Top Nigerian music sensations who thrilled guests at the party include 2face, MI, Ill Bliss, Idibia, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Omawunmi, Waje and Chidinma.

    Tiwa Savage loses MTV EMAs wildcard nomination

    NIGERIAN singing sensation, Tiwa Savage, has lost the last chance to secure inclusion in the  nominations for the Best African Act in the MTV European Music Awards (EMA), even as her counterpart, Davido, made the list.

    The Mavin Records’ artistes and four others lost to Kenyan star, Sauti Sol, who got the highest votes from a whopping 19 million cast by fans worldwide. With the victory, Sol joins Davido, Goldfish, Diamond and Toofan in this hotly contested category.

    According to the organisers, voting for the winner in this category will close on November 8, at 12a.m.

    Meanwhile, the rivalry continues between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, as they go head-to-head for  the Best Female and Best Look, while queens of Hip hop, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea, will slug it out in two categories: Best Hip hip  and Best Look.

    MTV EMA is the world’s annual music awards show that celebrates the year’s hottest artistes from around the globe.

    AS the curtains fell on the sixth season of the music TV reality show, Nigerian Idol, Pepsi, its official beverage sponsor, has expressed satisfaction over the show.

    The Head of Marketing, Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Norden Thurston, said: “Pepsi likes to associate with processes that evolve stars of the future; that is why we have been supporting Nigerian Idol since inception.

    “Pepsi is happy to be part of the platform that grooms future music stars in Nigeria who will be ready to take the world in few years to come. We have been supporting sports over the years and have many football brand ambassadors like Stephen Keshi, Victor Moses, Daniel Amokachi, Elderson Echiejile and Osaze Odewingie, while Pepsi music ambassadors are Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Lynxxx.”

    Also, Femi Pedro, Managing Director of Optima Media Group, the organisers of the show, said: “Pepsi is a true partner that has been refreshing the contest from the beginning to this point.”

    Speaking shortly after emerging the winner, Zibli Evelyn, aka Evelle, shed tears of joy. “My mother is sick and currently in hospital receiving treatment. I need to see her with this happy news and I am sure it will make her get better. I have tried to enter this contest for a very long time and those who know me can testify to this. I am so happy to have won it.”

    The event also had performances from Tuface Idibia, who thrilled the audience from his rich repertoire.

    Ace comedian, Bovi, entertained with his jokes, while Moses, the season three winner of Nigerian Idol, performed his new single titled Egwu.

    Curtains fall on Star Music Trek

    LAST Saturday, Star Lager, from the stable of Nigerian Breweries, drew the curtains on its 10 week, 10 cities pan-Nigeria music tour with a grand finale.

    The event, which held at Eagles Club, Surulere, Lagos, featured top Nigerian artistes, including Tuface, Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Olamide and Kcee, among others.

    Featuring energetic live performances, music, dance and comedy, DJs Xclusive, Neptune and Switch took turns to thrill the fans with explosive party mixes for the over eight-hour event.

    As comedian Gbenga Adeyinka teamed up with Laff Up as hosts for the event, the brand gave consumers the opportunity to go home with fantastic prizes at the pre-trek gig raffle draws, where various stars, including Tuface, Naeto C and Mr Raw, made surprise appearances to present the gifts to the winners.

    Tokunbo Adodo, Senior Marketing Manager Star, Goldberg and Export, said: “At Star, we are always seeking ways to make our consumers happy and are excited about the response from Star Music Trek. With thousands of fans coming out to watch their favourite artistes perform live at every city we visit, you can be sure that Star will continue to support projects like this.”

    The 2014 edition of Star Music Trek kicked off on March 29, with a massive turnout at the local government stadium, Nsukka, from where it moved to Makurdi, Uyo, Umuahia, Orlu, Ekwulobia, Onitsha, Benin, Ado Ekiti and Lagos.

    SENSATIONAL Hip hop singers, Davido and Tiwa Savage, have been nominated at this year’s BET awards.

    The two talented artistes will slug it out with other African acts in the award of the Best International Act Africa category.

    Nominations were announced in 20 categories selected by BET’s Voting Academy that comprises a group of respected entertainment professionals in television, film, music, social media, digital marketing, sports journalism, Public Relations, creative arts and fans.

    The awards ceremony holds on Sunday, June 29, at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA. It will, however, be premiered on BET International in Africa on July 1.

    According to Stephen Hill, BET’s president of Music Programming and Specials, “This year’s nominees represent the best of the culture. It’s great to see our talented new artistes alongside our more beloved ones with long careers. We appreciate our BET Awards nomination committee for their efforts and congratulate all the nominees.”

    Tiwa Savage calls for return of abducted girls

    Sensational singer Tiwa Savage has lent her voice to the call for the release of the over 200 school girls abducted almost two weeks ago by Boko Haram insurgents.

    She made this call last weekend during the sixth stage of the Star Music Trek at Ekwulobia Township Stadium, Anambra State.

    Raising her fingers in the air, the audience reportedly chanted “Bring back our girls” after her, thereby joining the global call to find the over 200 female students abducted from a high school in Chibok, Borno State last month.

    The recently married singer went on to serenade the audience and an eager male fan, who was invited to join her on the stage.

    Her duet with Dr Sid on Dorobucci was the icing on the performance, with the audience going wild in excitement.

    The host, Gbenga Adeyinka, on his part, provided the teeming audience with a highly amusing show that kept thousands of fans who surrounded the massive Trek stage on their feet for the over 10-hour performance.

    Kcee and Harrysong, who were dressed in colourful yellow, white and black outfits, performed a medley of their hit songs: Beta Pikin, Bulienu Jesu, Limpopo, Okpekete, Give it to Me and Pull Over as well as other hits for their appreciative fans.

    Other headline acts present at the show were Phyno and Mr. Raw.

    Since March 29, the Star Music Trek has toured six cities, including Nsukka, Makurdi, Uyo, Umuahia and Orlu.

    Over the years, it has brought together thousands of fans across the country to watch live performances from many of Nigeria’s biggest artistes.

    The seventh Star Music Trek concert holds in Onitsha on May 11, as the music concert continues its exciting Nigerian tour.

    Consequently, Tiwa Savage will cut short her honeymoon to thrill expectant fans at the sixth stage of Star Music Trek today.

    For over five weeks, music fans at The Trek have been dazzled with show-stopping performances from selected artistes with many winning fantastic prizes at the concert venues.

    Fayrouz Chilled Out Bar, Awka was the venue of this week’s pre-gig party, which will held yesterday. Lucky guests won lots of branded prizes such as phones, TVs, branded carpets and much more up.

    Last week, Fidelis Amarachi, a 400-level student from Imo State University, won an LED TV, which was presented to him by popular rap artiste, Mr Raw.

    The Nigerian entertainment industry was abuzz at the weekend with the star-studded wedding of Nigerian music diva, Tiwa Savage and her husband, Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun.
    For most artistes, it was a time to felicitate with the bride and groom. As the ceremony got underway, guests were given room to make speeches. But interestingly, Tiwa’s co-Mavin artiste, Dr Sid, dropped a bombshell.
    In a few words, the Surulere crooner announced that his wedding would come up in July. Though he didn’t disclose the details, the artiste set the entertainment world in an anticipatory mood. This is even more so as the introduction ceremony of the Mavin artiste and his fashion consultant fiancée, Simi Osomo, had taken place in Lagos on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
    Only recently, the artiste made a career move when he delved into the movie world. He made his Nollywood debut in the movie, The Last 3 Digits. The movie, which also features actor Nonso Diobi, was directed by Moses Inwang.
    Inwang was full of commendations for the Mavin artiste, as he said: “In 2008, Justus Esiri gave me a wonderful performance in the film, Chase. Six years after, his son, Dr Sid, stepped into his father’s shoes and blew me away with his amazing performance in The Last Three Digits, playing alongside talented actor, Nonso Diobi.”

    TIWA Savage who had her wedding in Dubai during the week is one fashionista to copy when you want to look ravishing in orange. Carroty has been one sweet colour that has been surfacing the fashion trend now. Apart from being a colour that brings out the femininty in a woman, it also is a flattering colour for most skin tones as it adds a natural glow to the skin.

    She wore this Alexander Wang cowl neck mid-calf length dress, with bias-cut at front. Spaghetti straps wrapping behind the neck, with a single shoulder overlay; and low arm-hole opening beneath the draped fabric of the left shoulder to Fab Award.

    She kept the outfit very simple with gold wrist watch, a pair of ivory shoes and earrings. She knocked-off her look with neutral makeup and a sleek hair-do. Her look is for the brave!

    Tiwa Savage and Tunji Balogun aka “Tee Billz” just had their white wedding at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa.

     

    The church was filled to capacity with celebrities, friends, colleagues and family members who flew from Nigeria to celebrate with their industry colleague and friend.

     

    Present at the ceremony were Don Jazzy, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, Toke makinwa, Dr Sid, Tolu Oniru, Eku Edewor, Seyi Shay, Tania Omotayo and several others.
