Things to know as Tottenham host Chelsea in fierce London rivalry

Tottenham will host Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend in a high-stakes London derby, a clash loaded with intensity, flair, and pressure.

Both teams will be desperate for a win, with Spurs looking to prove their early-season promise and Chelsea aiming to find consistency after a mixed start. With bragging rights, momentum, and confidence on the line, this fixture promises end-to-end action and a fierce battle in every area of the pitch.

    Stats to know

    ·       Tottenham have won just one of their last 13 Premier League meetings with Chelsea.

    ·       Chelsea have claimed five wins in six league visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

    ·       Chelsea have lost three of their last five Premier League games, more than in their previous 16 combined.

    ·       Thomas Frank has lost only two of his eight Premier League matches against Chelsea.

    ·       Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus has completed the most dribbles in the Premier League this season.

    The rivalry renewed

There’s tension in the air. North London knows it, West London feels it. Tottenham and Chelsea—two proud, volatile clubs—are both desperate for a result that can shift their seasons.

For Spurs, it’s about proving their bright start wasn’t a false dawn. For Chelsea, it’s about finding consistency after weeks of mixed performances. Both sides crave momentum, and neither can afford another stumble.

    Recent form

Tottenham sit inside the top four after nine matches (five wins, two draws, two losses). Their football has been bold and attacking but occasionally erratic, and they’re coming off a 2–0 Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle. With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined, new signing Mohammed Kudus has become their main creative spark.

Chelsea, meanwhile, sit mid-table (four wins, two draws, three losses). They’ve struggled for rhythm under Enzo Maresca but showed resilience with a Carabao Cup win over Wolves. When they click, they look dangerous—but too often, inconsistency and defensive lapses undo their efforts.

    Team news

Tottenham’s injury list is easing, with Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie nearing returns. Kudus has been a standout performer, while midfielders Palhinha and Bentancur are regaining form.

Chelsea’s injury troubles continue—Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, and Benoît Badiashile remain doubts. João Pedro’s creativity and Enzo Fernández’s control will be vital if the Blues are to dictate play.

Key battle: Mohammed Kudus vs João Pedro

Kudus has dazzled since joining Spurs, combining flair with end product and already registering four assists. Pedro, meanwhile, has two goals and three assists for Chelsea, showing glimpses of the creativity and composure the Blues have been missing since Eden Hazard’s departure.

    Tactical outlook

Tottenham will press high and look to dominate possession, while Chelsea will rely on Fernández and Caicedo to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. Both sides have attacking quality but defensive vulnerabilities, suggesting this could be an open, end-to-end game.

    Match details

    Date: Saturday, November 1

    Kick-off: 4:30 p.m. GMT

    Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

    Referee: Jarred Gillett

    VAR: Craig Pawson

With both teams searching for rhythm and confidence, this derby could define the direction of their seasons. Bragging rights, belief, and momentum are all on the line in North London.

EPL: Kudus scores as Tottenham end Leeds’ year-long unbeaten home run

Mohammed Kudus delivered a standout performance, scoring one goal and assisting another as Tottenham Hotspur handed Leeds United their first home league defeat in over a year at Elland Road.

Leeds had not lost at home since September 2024, when they fell to Burnley in the Championship. But on a rain-soaked afternoon in West Yorkshire, Kudus inspired Spurs to a crucial 2–1 victory that ended their brief winless run following two consecutive draws.

Mathys Tel opened the scoring for Tottenham with his first goal of the season, latching onto Kudus’ precise through ball before unleashing a stunning 20-yard strike that deflected off Pascal Struijk and wrong-footed goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Leeds responded through Noah Okafor, who capitalised on a rebound after Guglielmo Vicario parried Brenden Aaronson’s shot, following strong buildup play from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, Spurs quickly regained the lead when Kudus drifted across the top of the box and fired a low strike into the bottom corner, sealing the win for Ange Postecoglou’s side despite heavy rain and late Leeds pressure.

The result lifts Tottenham to second place in the Premier League, just one point behind leaders Liverpool ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures.

Tottenham close in on £51.8m move for Leipzig star Xavi Simons

Tottenham are on the verge of signing RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons for 60m euros (£51.8m).

The Netherlands international is in England, with sources indicating he has completed his medical before signing for Thomas Frank’s side.

The clubs have an agreement in principle over the overall package that will allow the 22-year-old to move to north London, with the finer details of the deal to be concluded within the next 24 hours.

Chelsea held talks with Leipzig over a move for Simons earlier this summer but are set to complete a £40m move for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.

Simons is now set to join Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus as summer arrivals at Spurs.

Spurs failed in their bid to sign Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this summer, while one of their main targets Eberechi Eze chose to join rivals Arsenal from Crystal Palace.

Tottenham stun Manchester City at Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur made it back-to-back Premier League victories under new manager Thomas Frank by stunning Manchester City once again at the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs came here last November and inflicted a 4-0 humbling of City in a scintillating performance and went home once more with all three points courtesy of a resolute defensive display.

They started slowly as Omar Marmoush latched onto Pedro Porro’s loose header and squeezed a shot narrowly wide of the far post before seeing a thunderous strike from range pushed away by Guglielmo Vicario.

The Egyptian was lively early on and forced another excellent save from the Spurs goalkeeper after being played through by Erling Haaland.

With their first real threat of the game, Spurs took the lead courtesy of a lightning breakaway as Richarlison’s low cross was converted by Brennan Johnson.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but overturned following a review by the video assistant referee.

  • Tottenham interested in signing Brentford’s Mbeumo

Tottenham interested in signing Brentford’s Mbeumo

Tottenham are interested in signing Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo.

Cameroon international Mbeumo scored 20 times for the Bees in the Premier League last season.

The 25-year-old’s former manager at Brentford, Thomas Frank, was named Spurs boss on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Mbeumo was the subject of a bid from Manchester United of £45m and £10m in add-ons.

However no agreement was reached between the two clubs with the offer falling well short of Brentford’s valuation.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Spurs are yet to submit a bid for Mbeumo and there has been further interest in him from other Champions League clubs on the continent.

It is understood there is no release clause in Mbeumo’s contract, which still has a year left to run, although there is the option to extend it by another year.

Mbeumo has scored 70 goals in 242 appearances for Brentford since arriving in west London in 2019 from Ligue 2 club Troyes.

JUST IN: Tottenham beat Man United to win Europa League

Tottenham ended their 17-year wait for a trophy as Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal was enough to beat Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Victory means under-fire head coach Ange Postecoglou has fulfilled a promise to deliver silverware in his second season at Spurs.

Postecoglou, who said he would “never be a clown” in his pre-match address, brought smiles and unbridled joy to the faces of the 15,000 official, and many unofficial, Tottenham fans in Bilbao’s San Mames Stadium.

Victory may not save Postecoglou from a Spurs exit in the coming weeks. But the Australian will leave as a hero after joining Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw in winning a European trophy with the north London giants.

In addition to following the lead of Newcastle and Crystal Palace in making this a season of glory for clubs who rarely, if ever, win a trophy, Tottenham are also set to benefit from a £100m windfall after qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

As had to happen in a battle between the two lowest-placed teams ever to contest a European final, for the losers, there was no silver lining.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will send his side into the final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday with huge questions over his ability to make them competitive following their worst season since the 1973-74 relegation campaign.

Amorim enjoys the backing of the ownership but his decision to pick Mason Mount ahead of Alejandro Garnacho in an attacking role did not work. And with skipper Bruno Fernandes unusually subdued, United lacked the guile to drag themselves back into the game once they had fallen behind.

They came close to an equaliser with a Rasmus Hojlund header, following Guglielmo Vicario’s error, that was acrobatically cleared off the line by Micky van de Ven midway through the second half.

Vicario then made a dramatic late save to keep out Luke Shaw’s header.

  • Europa League: Tottenham‘s  Postecoglou  wary of ‘consistent’ Bodo

Europa League: Tottenham‘s  Postecoglou  wary of ‘consistent’ Bodo

Tottenham Hotspur have an opportunity to salvage a disappointing domestic season by reaching a European final, but they will not be taking their home clash with Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt lightly, manager Ange Postecoglou said.

Bodo’s four league titles in five years under manager Kjetil Knutsen, who has been in charge since 2018, has led to them competing consistently in Europe, and they are the first Norwegian club to reach a European club semi-final.

“They have been pretty consistent the last few years, the same manager and a core group of players,” Postecoglou told reporters ahead of  today’s Europa League semi-final first leg.

“They definitely have a distinct style of football that they have stuck to and have had success with. They have been pretty consistent in the Norwegian league but also in Europe.

“Every game they have played, irrespective of the opposition, and they have played some really good quality opposition in Europe, they have always been really competitive.”

Postecoglou is well aware of Bodo’s ability to rise to the occasion, having lost to the Norwegians in the Europa Conference League while manager of Celtic.

“The atmosphere at Celtic Park is unbelievable, but they weren’t fazed,” the manager said.

“They won’t be daunted by anything that comes tomorrow. They’ve been at Old Trafford, they’ve played some big clubs in Italy and other countries.

“Bodo are there on merit. They beat Lazio, Olympiakos. We’re going to treat them with the respect they deserve and give our best.”

Spurs are 16th  in the Premier League standings, having lost 19 league games, with Postecoglou’s future at the club under scrutiny, but the manager wants to put all that to one side.

“I just don’t think that we can do anything other than really concentrate on the unbelievable opportunity we’ve got before us,” he said.

“Irrespective of what kind of season you have, how often will you be in this position? History tells you not that often.

“So any thought about what’s going to happen next year or what’s happened this year is not really of any importance.”

Spurs will again be without forward Son Heung-min, who has missed the last four games with a foot injury, as Postecoglou confirmed he is training separately from the team, but hopes to have the South Korean back before the end of the season.

Imperious Liverpool smash Tottenham to win EPL  title

Liverpool demolished Tottenham 5-1 to clinch the Premier League title at an impassioned Anfield, sealing a record-equalling 20th  English top-flight crown.

Arne Slot’s men stormed back after conceding a surprise early goal to dominate the first half as the decibel level soared among 60,000-plus crowd.

Liverpool, who can no longer be caught by second-placed Arsenal, are now level with bitter rivals Manchester United as the joint-most successful club in English top-flight history.

Slot’s men started on the front foot at an expectant Anfield after a stirring rendition of club anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in the warm spring sunshine.

Mohamed Salah had an early sitter and Cody Gakpo went close with a spectacular overhead kick but Tottenham briefly threatened to become party poopers when Dominic Solanke powered home a header from a James Maddison corner in the 12th  minute.

But Liverpool were level just four minutes later when Luis Diaz converted Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross from close range. The offside flag went up but VAR awarded the goal.

The momentum was now all with Liverpool and the home side took the lead in the 24th minute when Alexis Mac Allister thundered the ball home from the 18-yard line past the flying Guglielmo Vicario.

Now the party was well and truly started and Gakpo made it 3-1, slamming a shot into the bottom corner after Spurs failed to clear.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou had made eight changes from the team that lost to Nottingham Forest last week as he prioritises the semi-finals of the Europa League and they now had a mountain to climb.

The Liverpool fans – deprived of celebrating the 2020 Premier League trophy due to Covid restrictions, ran through their full repertoire of songs as their team pushed for a fourth goal in the second half.

Top-scorer Salah scored the goal the crowd craved, collecting Szoboszlai’s pass before cutting in and blasting his shot into the bottom corner.

He celebrated by grabbing a fan’s phone before taking a selfie in front of the Kop.

Deafening cheers of “We’re going to win the league” and “We shall not be moved” rang out.

Liverpool had a fifth when Spurs defender Destiny Udogie poked the ball past his own goalkeeper from close range with about 20 minutes to go as the game turned into a procession.

As the game went into added time the club’s anthem rang out again as scarves were held aloft and the final whistle elicited a thunderous roar.

The win leaves Liverpool on 82 points, 15 clear of nearest challengers Arsenal with just four games remaining.

Tottenham are a miserable 16th  in the Premier League table after their 19th defeat of the season, putting Postecoglou under enormous pressure.

Tens of thousands of fans swarmed around Anfield in the build-up to kick-off in anticipation of Liverpool’s coronation, setting off flares as the home team bus arrived.

Liverpool fans are preparing to celebrate a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title

Flags and scarves saying “Liverpool 20-time Champions” were on sale from stalls outside the ground.

At the start of the campaign, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were favourites to extend their dynastic Premier League reign and make it five titles in a row but their form collapsed.

Arsenal emerged as their closest challengers but they drew too many games, failing to take advantage of the rare Liverpool slip-ups.

It was feared Liverpool’s players would need time to adapt to the methods of Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp last June following the German’s departure after nine trophy-filled years at Anfield.

But the former Feyenoord boss has sailed serenely through the season despite relentless speculation over the futures of three of his biggest stars – Salah, captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Both Salah and Van Dijk have now signed two-year extensions, though England defender Alexander-Arnold is believed likely to be on the verge of a move to Real Madrid.

EPL: Isak scores again as Newcastle beat Tottenham

Alexander Isak continued his magnificent scoring run as Newcastle came from behind to inflict another home defeat on Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham and stretch their winning run in all competitions to six matches.

The visitors came into Saturday’s Premier League game in scintillating form but fell behind after just three minutes when Pedro Porro’s in-swinging delivery was headed in by Dominic Solanke.

However, Anthony Gordon restored parity two minutes later, firing low past Spurs’ debutant goalkeeper Brandon Austin into the far corner in front of watching England manager Thomas Tuchel.

Spurs were adamant Joelinton should have been penalised for handball in the build-up to Gordon’s goal, but the officials deemed that the contact with Lucas Bergvall’s pass was accidental and that the Brazilian’s arm was in a natural position.

Isak dragged a Jacob Murphy cross off target shortly after the half-hour mark but made no mistake from a similar position moments later, slotting home after Radu Dragusin had deflected another Murphy delivery into his path.

The Swede becomes the third Newcastle player to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches, after Alan Shearer in 1996 and Joe Willock in 2021.

Tottenham improved after the break and almost equalised 10 minutes into the second half, but Brennan Johnson struck the woodwork from the tightest of angles after Martin Dubravka had kept out Pape Sarr’s effort from outside the box.

Second-half substitute James Maddison curled an effort narrowly wide of the far post and Sergio Reguilon lashed a shot off target late on, but there was no way back for Spurs as Postecoglou’s team slumped to a fifth home league defeat of the campaign. BBC

  • EPL: Kudus sent off as Tottenham beat West Ham 4-1

EPL: Kudus sent off as Tottenham beat West Ham 4-1

A spectacular second half-display saw Tottenham run out dominant Premier League winners over local rivals West Ham in north London.

Hammers winger Mohammed Kudus turned in the opening goal of the game from a Jarrod Bowen cross in the 18th minute having missed a similar chance moments earlier.

Midfielder Dejan Kulusevski got Spurs a deserved equaliser which squeezed in after hitting both posts in the 36th minute.

But with Spurs already dominant in the first half, they took their game to another level after the interval as James Maddison was substituted for Pape Matar Sarr.

They scored just seven minutes later as Yves Bissouma arrived to finish Destiny Udogie’s cutback to put Spurs ahead.

Son Heung-min, who had been pulling the strings for the other goals, then saw his shot saved by Alphonse Areola but his parry deflected off Jean-Clair Todibo and into the goal.

The Korean scored five minutes later by tucking in a finish after the Hammers failed to clear a loose ball, but then hit the post with a similar chance as West Ham turned over possession straight after the resulting kick-off.

Remarkably, Kudus was sent off after pushing both Sarr and Micky van de Ven in the face, following an intervention from VAR Christopher Kavanagh.

The result was what Spurs’ impressive attacking play deserved and their second-half display helps to exorcise demons after the club squandered a 2-0 lead at Brighton before the international break.

They lost that match 3-2 at the Amex Stadium – leading Ange Postecoglou to describe the display at his “worst defeat” since becoming Spurs manager last summer.
