Toyin Abraham denies arresting X user’s mother

Actress Toyin Abraham has denied she arrested a Twitter user’s mother.

The user had taken to the social media platform to claim the filmmaker arrested his mother illegally.

However, Abraham set the record straight, stating that she only made a report at the cybercrime unit due to threats to her life and family.

According to her, the user’s friend, Ayo was arrested for alleged bullying and defamation.

Abraham emphasised that she did not arrest the user’s mother, contrary to the claims made.

She also clarified that she deleted related tweets after the issue was resolved.

The Twitter user had claimed that his mother was picked up from her shop to Panti police station but Abraham maintained that she did not initiate any arrests.

This development comes amid growing concerns about online bullying and harassment.

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the boundaries of free speech and the need for responsible social media usage.

An X user Danny wrote: “Hello @toyin_abraham1, you will have to send the police to pick all of us. You are very shameless”.

Replying to him, Toyin stated that he can abuse all and call her names, and it would be okay but where she draws the line is when people curse her kids and lie.

“You can abuse and call me names; it’s fine, and as I said, I will accept and take it cos I’m in the public eyes, but cursing kids and lying is what I won’t accept, and lastly, I never and will never arrest anyone’s mother. I made a report on cybercrime as a citizen. I made my report at cybercrime cos the threat to life and curse and threat on my family were beyond what I can take, as for me, abuse me, insult me please, say anything to me please,” she responded.

The X user, Jeffery further alleged the movie star picked up her mom from her shop.

“It’s one thing to make a tweet, and you arrest me. It’s another thing to arrest me for not even making a single comment, @toyin_abraham1. You picked my mom up from her shop to Panti police station for something I didn’t even do. God will judge you,” he tweeted.

Toyin replied, : “Lying on my head comfortably now, the world won’t see this if I react how, they will say something else. I never arrested your mum. Your friend Ayo was arrested for bullying and cursing and defaming my family, and mum went there saying she won’t leave without him”.

Another tweep, Uchenna, questioned why the movie star deleted some of her tweets to which she replied was no need to beat around the bush.

  • Toyin Abraham makes u-turn to institute legal action against online bullies

Toyin Abraham makes u-turn to institute legal action against online bullies

Being famous doesn’t make one impervious to insult, mockery, and abuse, but Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham was able to control her emotions when dealing with fierce trolls.

In the past 12 months, she has continued to suffer at the hands of cyber-bullies, they shared her obituary poster on social media and threatened her family. OLAITAN GANIU writes.

Her offence is that she supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition during the 2023 presidential election.

Though Abraham has not associated herself with any political party, she has remained a recurring voice in the support of Nigeria’s president.

When she was queried about her support for Tinubu, the mother of one said the president was the most suitable candidate during the election. “Tinubu is the most qualified candidate. I have experienced his leadership in Lagos as a public servant, senator, and governor. “Because of the things he has done for the film industry, he has been a wonderful man to my people.”

This remark upset many of her fans, who didn’t align with her belief in Tinubu.  She, instantly, became a target for mockery, sarcasm, and ridicule.

Reacting to the online bullies and trolls, she responded, “Must I support who you support? The people you are supporting are not evil, I am not supporting evil and I only supported Tinubu and I still stand by him till now, till forever.”

Abraham went a step further to challenge anyone with proof of supporting Tinubu for financial and pecuniary gains saying, “If anybody curses me or swears for me, it can’t affect me because I didn’t collect a dime. It’s only those that took money that can be affected. I, Oluwatoyin, didn’t collect money. Nobody can pay me. I sell my movies in cinemas, I sell them on platforms, I’m making my money, and I’m fine. The point is to choose your candidate, and don’t bully me.”

The bullying took a new turn when an obituary video of Abraham, was shared via YouTube and other social media platforms.

Despite the spiteful wish, she reacted calmly. “Why would anyone put this out there? Why should anyone wish others bad because they made a different choice?  Death is not my portion in Jesus’ name.”

Continuing, she said, “It is no more democracy if you don’t allow people to make their decisions freely. Everyone cannot see things from their angle only. Bullying, harassing, and threatening people’s lives because they disagree with you on personal choice shouldn’t be encouraged at all.”

A year later, the harassment and backlash continued.

In a series of social media posts, the actress cum filmmaker has been dragged by angry mobs on microblogging platform X over the current state of the economy.

In reaction to a post, Abraham noted that she’s focusing on her craft, adding that she will keep her affiliation with politicians private.

“I have faced my life and career because I am not a politician and I’m not in government. It is democracy and it is my right to choose and vote for whoever I want to vote for,” she noted.

Not willing to back down, the bullies went about sharing her son’s pictures on social media while maligning her family.

During an Instagram Live session recently, the ‘Alakada’ star warned the trolls to desist from circulating her son’s picture and cursing her innocent family on social media.

“Stop sharing pictures of my child and passing frustration onto my family. I did not collect a dime; I am not that kind of person. I did not take 1 naira from Tinubu, my late father did not train me like that.

Continuing she said, “Years back, I wanted (Goodluck) Jonathan, everybody wanted Buhari, you guys bullied me. I have never for once passed my frustrations on anyone. Some people keep saying I don’t owe anyone any explanation, you think it is easy? Every day, they put up a picture of my children and curse my children every time. Because you guys feel I am an emotional person, I would always let things slide. But this time, I will not let it slide,” she fumed.

After over a year of bullying, Abraham has read out the riot act to online bullies across all social media platforms saying that she won’t spare anyone who bullies her family as legal actions will be taken against any social media bully.

“What did my children and family do to you? If you want to curse me, curse me. Do whatever you want to do to me. Those children don’t even know anything yet you curse and bully them every time and some people keep saying I should ignore them. Enough is enough. I would not take it anymore.”

Toyin Abraham worried about children, sends advice to parents

Filmmaker Toyin Abraham has expressed worries over the rate of growing children and the level of training inculcated into them.

The actress, who described her mood as unhappy, admonished parents on the need to raise children with kid gloves because times have changed.

Despite wishing all children a wonderful day, Abraham cited examples of youths who bash their elders on social media under the guise of being “woke” and the jungle justice which took place in Ajayi Crowther university where a student was accused of theft.

She added that children should be raised with values and be taught respect as lack of home training is currently the order of the day in many settings today.

She wrote on Instagram: “I am not happy on this children’s day

“Happy Children’s Day to all children and to parents who were once children. As we celebrate this day, it is essential to acknowledge the need for better parenting. Recent online encounters and observations compel me to share this heartfelt message with every parent and guardian.

“The quality of children we are raising today needs serious attention. We now have kids who see respect and courtesy as burdens. How do we feel reading some of the things the youth say to adults online under the guise of being “woke” or adopting a “no tolerance” attitude? Many of us were not raised the way we are raising our kids today. We are raising them with kid gloves because we believe times have changed. However, different times are not an excuse to raise disrespectful children.

“Despite our age and blessings, there are still things we would not tell our parents, not out of fear, but out of respect. This Children’s Day should remind us to do better as parents and raise children who are respectful and kind. The recent tragic event at Ajayi Crowther University, where students killed a fellow student in the name of jungle justice, highlights the severe consequences of a lack of home training and moral values. Even if theft occurred, it does not justify taking another person’s life.

“Respect, courtesy, responsibility, kindness, and hard work are values we were raised with. Although we may not have liked the discipline at the time, we are grateful to our parents today for instilling these values in us. We have a nation-building responsibility to raise the next generation of quality individuals.

“Happy Children’s Day once again. May God keep our children for us, protect us from all forms of evil, and grant us a great celebration filled with wonderful experiences for the kids.

“My name is Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi. I was once a little child, and I am now entrusted with the responsibility of raising quality children for a better society and nation”.
