    Nsofor resumes training

    Victor Obinna Nsofor has kept his hopes of playing at the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup alive after he recovered from an injury that has kept him out of training.

    A top source in the Eagles World Cup training camp in Philadelphia, United States of America, told AfricanFootball.com the Jos-born star trained with the rest of the squad on Saturday and Sunday.

    “It is true that Obby (Obinna Nsofor) was injured, but he is back and fit now, he has trained twice with the team and showed no signs of any injury,” the source said.

    Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is expected to announce his fnal 23-man squad  today.

    Nsofor featured at the 2010 World Cup.

    Last season, the striker was shipped out on loan to Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona by Russian club Locomotiv Moscow in the winter.

    Nigeria will face fellow World Cup qualifiers Greece in another warm-up match on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

    AN Information and Communication  Technology (ICT) firm, the Law Pavillion, has trained the senior staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Alausa, on  legal research tools.

    They were taught on how to use the LawPavilion software,  to enhance efficiency and productivity.

    The training is one of the after-sales service offered by the company.

    The  new LawPavilion Case Manager, described as a revolutionary software that organises and streamlines  the complex workflow of a lawyer, was also demonstrated at the training.

    Etisalat Nigeria has carried out a five-day capacity building training for the successful top 50 candidates of the Etisalat EasyBusiness Millionaire Hunt at the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Speaking on the initiative, its Head, Business Market Segment, Mr. Bidemi Ladipo, explained the reason behind the Etisalat EasyBusiness Millionaire Hunt and why the telco is committed to small and medium scale enterprises’ (SMEs) development.

    He said: “The major idea behind the Etisalat EasyBusiness Millionaire Hunt is to inspire  small business owners and help them grow. Etisalat is well aware that even though every business starts small, they have the capacity to become big. Now in its fifth year of operations in Nigeria, Etisalat has grown exponentially in the market.

    “The Nigerian society is rich with individuals blossoming with impressive business innovations, ideas, and initiatives that will add value to the real sector of the economy.     african champions Nigeria will train in Houston, USA, for the 2014 World Cup, top officials have announced.

    Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has proposed the team train in either Miami or Houston for the World Cup, but top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official, Chris Green, has now disclosed the country has settled for Houston.

    “Nigeria will train for the World Cup in Houston. We want to make a statement at our fifth World Cup and so we have to prepare adequately,” Green said.

    Nigeria will open the training camp on May 25. Nigeria will also face Mexico in a World Cup warm-up in Houston on March 5.

    Green also said the team plan four other friendlies before their first match against Iran. Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina are the other teams in Group F along with the Eagles.

    • May face Southampton today

    Victor Anichebe could be back for West Brom on Saturday against Southampton after he returned to full training.

    Anichebe has been out of action due to a groin injury which saw him miss five games.

    The Nigeria striker has played 10 league games this season for ‘The Baggies’ with a goal to his credit.

    Anichebe has not been lucky with injuries as he has been down six times with different degrees of injury last year.

    Eagles begin training in SA today

    Nigeria will have their first training in South Africa on Thursday night ahead of their opening Group A match against Mali at the African Nation Championship (CHAN) in Cape Town.

    Officials disclosed the Eagles ‘B’ will have their first training session on Thursday night at 8:30pm local time, which is 7:30 Nigerian time.

    This will also be the time for their first match against Mali on Saturday.

    The team are booked into the Garden Court De Waal, a quiet suburb of the city.

    The Eagles landed in Cape Town on Wednesday. They were led by assistant coach Daniel Amokachi, who is holding the forte for Stephen Keshi who stayed back in Nigeria for the CAF Awards before joining the team.

    They left the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on Tuesday night at about 10:30pm. After five and half hours flight with a South Africa Airways plane, the team arrived Johannesburg at 4:30 Nigerian time, which is 5:30 in South Africa.

    The team was received by a team of Nigerian Embassy officials led by Ambassador Sunday Yusuf, who expressed delight at the safe arrival and ensured that the team had a smooth passage through immigration procedure.

    The envoy also charged the team to ensure that they win the trophy at the first try.

    “Nigerians are now used to winning, especially here in South Africa and I’m sure you will not let the nation down”, he said.

    Amokachi assured that the team will do its best at the tourney, even as Keshi is being expected in time before the Eagles opening game against Mali.

    After a little wait at the Thambo International Airport, the team connected another SAA flight to Cape Town, where they will play their group matches.

    The flight to Cape Town lasted 1:40minutes and on arrival the team were received by about 30 cheering and drumming Nigerians under the aegis ‘Nigerian Union in Western Cape’. The group was led by Kalu Obi.

    Heartland chief coach, Ramson Madu has said full scale preparations for the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season will wait after his church wedding to spouse, Chioma Ojukwu on Monday, December 30.

    The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale star will tie the nuptial bliss with the mother of his four children at the St John’s Anglican Church, Owerri.

    Madu said he has strong faith in the divine dividend that comes with weddings, hoping that it will make him a far improved coach thereafter.

    “My immediate concern right now is my upcoming wedding to my spouse, Chioma Ojukwu on Monday, December 30 at the St John’s Anglican Church, Owerri. Thereafter I’ll now turn undivided attention to preparation for the new season. Right now I can’t meaningfully tell you that Heartland are in the fore front preparing for the new season.

    “Though skeletal training sessions have been going on among the players mostly the new ones but concerted and purposeful training will commence shortly after my wedding. Coach Madu has been blessed off and on the pitch though it may not be too much to expect further blessings after the marriage rite which will make me far better coach than previously.

    “I’m wedding my wife after we’re satisfied with the four children God blessed the union with, so we’re coming before Him to show our appreciation. I look forward to the date with keen interest as I believe it will bring everybody connected with Heartland including the government to commune together,” said Madu to supersport.com.

    Madu guided the two-time Federation Cup winners to 11th position on 52 points at the 2012/13 Glo Premier League season.

  • Okpotu returns to training

    Tony Okpotu has returned to training with his Libyan club Al Ittihad. Nigerian striker, Okpotu, suffered a hamstring injury on November 10 while in action for Al Ittihad in 3-1 win over Darness during which he scored a goal.

    Ex-Lobi Stars ace, Okpotu, told MTNFootball.com he is back at training and happy with his progress.

    “I have returned to training, I trained with the rest of the squad today and I am happy to be back. Though I still feel some pain but I am feeling better than before. I don’t want to take risks that will aggravate it, so I don’t think I will play this weekend,” Okpotu told MTNFootball.com

    The Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia on Friday had their last training session at the U.J. Esuene Stadium under closed doors.

    The East Africans, who were very secretive about the training regime, chased away fans and journalists from the stands.

    Kano Pillars coach for Dutch training

    Coach of Kano Pillars Baba Ganaru is scheduled for a two-week understudy at either VVV Venlo or Roda in the Dutch league.

    Ganaru is expected to be accompanied by one of his assistants.

    The move, according to the special adviser to the Kano State governor on sports, Shuaib Gara Gombe is part of an agreement entered by the state government with Elite Sports Consulting, USA and Maasita Sports of Holland.

    Gombe, a former Gombe State Football Association chairman, told MTNFootball.com:”We want to ensure that the coaches are properly equipped for the 2014 CAF Champions League.

    “The coaches need all the exposure they can get and the Kano State government is committed to making our participating in this Champions League a huge success.

    “We are planning that the coaches would go for the training immediately after the Super Four. So, we are actually waiting for the LMC to fix a date for the Super 4 so we could tailor our plans for the team accordingly.”

    He also disclosed that part of the agreement with the consulting firm was to have a foreign technical adviser join the bench of Kano Pillars.

    “As part of our partnership with Elite Sports Consulting, they would provide us with a world-class technical adviser, who would come to access the readiness of Pillars to conquer the continent,” he said.

    “He would be on the bench for at least two competitive pre-season games after which he would advise on the readiness of the club for the continent.”
