    Imo: We’ll re-elect Uzodimma, say Okigwe women

    Okigwe women in Imo State have pledged their total support to the Governor Hope Uzodimma’s re-election, saying the incumbent stands a better chance than other candidates in the November 11 governorship contest.

    The Okigwe women made this pledge during a rally that was held at the Central School, Anara area of the state.

    During the peace rally, Mrs. Chindinma Akobundun in her welcome address, the event was for them to resolve on how to appreciate Governor Uzodimma for the good things he is doing for Okigwe zone in particular and Imo State in general.

    Akobundu therefore urged the women, men, and the youths to use their votes to further appreciate the Governor for all the good things Okigwe has benefited from him.

    Mrs. Ruby Emele, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said the Governor deserves their vote hence, assuring that Okigwe will speak with one voice with their ballot.

    Also, ex-governor Ikedi Ohakim said that Okigwe people have agreed to give the Governor 100 per cent of their votes, saying “Okigwe is intact and we have decided to reciprocate the love we share with you,”

    Imo 2023: Uzodimma will win guber poll – Survey

    An opinion survey conducted by an independent opinion research firm, Concept Masters, has tipped Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the likely candidate to win the November 11 Imo Governorship election.

    The project director of the firm, Emmanuella Elendu disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, in the survey conducted between 1st and 30th September 2023.

    She said: “Out of a total number of 88,564 registered voters who were randomly selected and interviewed across the 27 LGAs in the state, Senator Hope Uzodimma of the APC emerged the most favoured having been voted by 33,763 respondents representing 38.1% of people who expressed their passionate desire to return him to continue steering the Seat of governance for another four years in the state.

    “Senator Hope Uzodimma emerged the most favoured in 15 out of 25 LGAs where the survey held and identified the LGAs as Ezinihitte Mbaise, Ideato South, Ihitte/Uboma, Isiala Mbano, Isu, Mbaitoli, Ngor-Okpala and Nkwere.

    “Other areas in the net of APC according to the survey include; Njaba, Nwangele, Oguta, Okigwe, Onuimo, Orlu and Oru West LGAs.”

    Also, according to the survey: “On the PDP, governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who came second in the overall survey scale with 23,622 respondents representing 26.7% pitching their tent with him as their favorite for the 2023 Imo governorship seat.

    “The survey also showed that Senator Anyanwu came tops in the following 6 LGAs: Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise, Ideato North, Ikeduru, Ohaji Egbema and Owerri West.

    “While on the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Senator Athan Achonu, she said: “Senator Athan Achonu was favoured by 20,891 respondents representing 23.6% he also emerged the favorite in 4 LGAs namely: Ehime Mbano, Obowo, Owerri Municipal, and Owerri North.

    It added: “The candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Action Alliance (AA) Tony Ejiogu and retired General Ogunewe were favoured by 4,824 respondents and 3,190 respondents representing 5.4% and 3.6% respectively.”

    I’ll ensure free, fair election, Uzodimma assures voters

    Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has assured the electorate  that the November 11 governorship election will be free, fair, credible and transparent.

    But he urged the voters not to give in to cheap blackmail but defend their votes and guard against manipulation.

     Uzodimma spoke at the formal inauguration of the Imo Progressives Movement (IPM).

    The movement Convener/House of Representatives member for Ohaji/ Egbema/ Oguta/ Oru West Federal Constulituency,  Eugene Dibiagwu said the move was initiated to support Uzodimma’s  re-election  and chart a new political paradigm for the State.

    The Governor reassured the electorate, particularly the Imo youths that the environment would be made conducive for them to cast their ballot.

    Besides, the Governor told the Imo youths that he will also “create a conducive environment that will guarantee wealth creation, poverty alleviation, provision of scholarship, provision of standard education where civil servants will receive their salaries, infrastructure will be provided and Imo people will make money, prosperity and development achieved.”

    Governor Uzodimma enjoined Imo citizens to go out on the day of election and cast their votes, monitor the process, stay within their booths and ensure their votes are counted and moved to the situation room without fear or favour.

    In his address, the Convener of Imo Progressives Movement (IPM), Hon Eugene Dibiagwu said that the essence of the formation of the organization is to support the Governor’s reelection through quality political education, to identify successes in governance and how to inspire people to vote in the right direction.

    In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, a former Governor of Imo State, described the inauguration and campaign flag-off as “the grand finale of all endorsements and campaigns.”

    Introducing the essence of Imo Progressives Movement, the Director General,  Comrade Jeff Nwoha said that the different groups, after considering all options to the stake at the Douglas House, narrowed down their choice to Governor Uzodimma “considering his fairness, developmental strides, infrastructural development, youth empowerment and all inclusive administration.”

    The candidate of the Labour Party in the November 11 governorship election in Imo State, Sen. Athan Achonu, on Saturday suffered a setback as no fewer than 1, 500 Obidient youths in the state dumped him for Governor Hope Uzodimma.

    Also on Saturday, the women from Okigwe Senatorial Zone, cutting across political parties, and support groups, held a solidarity rally for Governor Uzodimma ahead of his re-election.

    The Okigwe rally was organised by women leaders in the 64 wards, particularly the Director General of NEPAD, Mrs Gloria Akobundu and the House of Representatives member for Okigwe North, Rt. Hon Mariam Onuoha among others.

    The Obidient youths said Uzodimma had shown the capacity for leadership and has verifiable track records of better human relationships which his opponents gunning for the office of the Governor of Imo State do not have.

    Marching through the major streets of Owerri on Saturday before they converged on the Okigwe Roundabout where they were received by Governor Uzodimma, the Obidient youths said that they had reserved their voters cards for Uzodimma and would use them accordingly to re elect him on November 11, 2023.

    The leader of the group, Emeka Mandela who spoke for the rest of them assured the governor that the love he has for them, the way he has governed Imo State, his programmes, and support for the youths and more, were some of the reasons they decided to sink and swim with him till he gets reelected in November 11.

    Uzodimma in his remarks thanked the Obidient youths for coming out in their numbers to support his aspiration based on their personal conviction of his performance.

    The Governor said that his government recognises the place of the youths as future leaders of the country in general and Imo State in particular and assured that he will continue to partner with them in the interest of the society.

    The Okigwe rally which was held at the Central School, Anara attracted key leaders from Okigwe zone, including the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chike Olemgbe; Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmos Iwu; former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim; APC leader, Chief Tony Chukwu; the former House of Representatives member, Deacon Chike Okafor;the House of Assembly member representing Isiala Mbano; Hon Sam Osuji and former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emeka Nduka.

    Others include, Chief (Mrs) Nkechi Mbonu, Chief Joe Frank Ijezie, Chief Ruby Emele, Chief Majority Emenike, Barr. Gerry Egemba, Lady Love Ineh, Comrade Simon Ebegbulem, Lady Blessing Nwoba, and numerous political appointees from Okigwe Zone.

    In her welcome address, Mrs. Akobundu said the rally was a peace rally, targeting the distribution of palliatives and an activity that will bring all the leaders, sons and daughters of Okigwe together. She said the event was for them to resolve on how to appreciate Governor Uzodimma for the good things he is doing for Okigwe zone in particular and Imo State in general as November 11 beckons.

    Mrs Akobundu therefore urged the women, men, and the youths to use their votes to further appreciate the Governor for all the good things Okigwe has benefited from him.

    African plants, herbs good for modern medicine — Uzodimma

    Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has stressed the need for harnessing and developing herbs and plants with medicinal value for both domestic and commercial applications out of the rich ecosystem Africa is endowed with.

    The governor spoke when he declared open the HerbFest Conference organised by Bioresources Development Group in collaboration with the Government of Imo State and other federal government agencies at Sam Mbakwe Hall, Concord Hotel Owerri.

    Uzodimma said that the “African Ecosystem is greatly endowed with rich plants and herbs that possess therapeutic properties that are good for modern medicine” and expressed the government’s readiness to support research that would improve the life and health of Imo people.

    He commended the organisers of the event led by Prof Maurice Iwu for their dedication to research on medicinal products with potential for use in the treatment and management of diseases and promised a conducive environment for growers of medicinal plants in the State.

    Speaking on the gains of the Conference, the President of Bioresources Development Group, Prof. Maurice Iwu explained that Herbfest is an annual event and that this year’s edition happens to be the 14th in the series of the programme.

    Iwu explained that the 2023 event was apt with the theme: ‘Medicinal Plants for Economic Development,’ noting that scientists and herbalists access themselves.

    The keynote speaker, Prof Kasim Musa Waziri of the University of Abuja said that herbal medicine has a value chain that makes it a source of income, and a source of raw materials for orthodox medicine, among others.

    He noted that the prospects in herbal medicine require taking steps to foster planning, recognising that it is a source of income and that it can be used as an effective cure for cancer and other ailments.

    Okigwe Catholic leaders, ex-party chairman back Uzodimma’s re-election

    No fewer than 1000 Catholic priests and Reverend Sisters working in the Okigwe zone yesterday met at the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State to pray for the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

    The  meeting which took place a day after  Uzodimma’s re-election campaign was kicked off at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri was also consistent with the endorsements by different groups  for the governor’s reelection.

    At the prayer session which took place at a APC stalwart, Chief Tony Chukwu’s home, the Catholic priests and the Reverend Sisters were in agreement that Governor Uzodimma has acquitted himself well and deserves to be returned to the office in November 11 to continue with the good work he has been doing.

    Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, Most Rev Solomon Amatu, who presided over the prayer session said that he was a “witness” to the meeting.

     Uzodimma, who thanked the priests and Rev Sisters for their support and prayers, noted that he came to Imo State to serve, insisting that he will continue to serve the people no matter the circumstances.

    Similarly, the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Chief Marcellinus Nlemigbo also inaugurated a 20-man booth mobilizers known as Mbaitolic Vote Mobilizers (MVM) for Hope re-election on November at his country home Umudagu Ihitte Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

    Chief Nlemigbo, who is also Mbaike People’s Assembly leader, while inaugurating the booth mobilizers charged them to ensure full mobilization of voters in their respective booths for Governor Hope Uzodinma’s re-election.

    According to him, the re-election of Uzodimma was non-negotiable while assuring them of the governor’s support and recognition before, during and after his victory for another term of four years.

    Labour Party candidate urged to step down for Uzodimma

    Ahead the November 11 Imo governorship poll, the Labour Party standard bearer,  Senator Athan Achonu has been advised to step down for Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Chief Tony Chukwu, who hosted   Imo State Council of  Elders  meeting at his residence said the advice was based on agreement by Imo Elders to reinstate rotational governorship in the state, adding that the position shall rotate among the three zones with Uzodimma as the incumbent being allowed to complete his second term in office.

    Chukwu argued that the strict implementation of the  agreement had  become imperative for peaceful rotation of the position in line with what operates in  Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states.

    He urged Okigwe people  at the meeting to engage in grassroots mobilisation for APC to deliver a resounding victory to  Uzodimma on Novermber 11. He reminded them that Okigwe Zone with only six local governments cannot produce a governor  and would need the active collaboration of Orlu and Owerri zones to achieve that aim.

    Chukwu reiterated the fact that it is the number and percentage of votes from Okigwe Zone that would determine the level of support it will get from Orlu Zone when it is time to seek their support for office of the Governor after the tenure of Uzodimma.

    He said: “We are all brothers and sisters brought together by God and should live in peace and harmony and must therefore avoid anything that threatens to bring crisis to our dear state. The rotation of the office of the Governor as developed and endorsed by 411 elders from across the state must be  upheld as sacrosanct.”

    He said  Uzodimma has more than justified the mandate given to him by his unprecedented service delivery in the state and needs a  stronger mandate from the people to continue fighting and delivering for them.

    Other leaders and elders who spoke at the meeting took cognisance of the exceptional performance of the  governor ,his constitutional entitlement to re-election, the imperative/ importance of the rotational consensus and  endorsed him for a second term in office. They also  urged the Imo electorate to vote massively for him in the November 11polls.

    Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said that his interest in building court complexes in all the Local Government Areas of the state is both to bring justice close to the people and to make it affordable.

     The governor made the comment on Thursday while commissioning the Oru East High Court, Magistrate Court and Customary Court Complex located at Oru East Local Government Headquarters in Omuma.

     According to a statement by Uzodimma’s Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, the governor said the search for justice in distant places makes it “expensive, cumbersome, as well as provides excuses for lawyers asking for undue adjournments thereby lingering cases unnecessarily.”

     According to him, the whole idea of the Oru East Court Complex in Omuma was to “make things easy for lawyers, judges and for the people to obtain justice quickly and affordably.”

     He, therefore, called on the people of Omuma to join hands in securing the facilities in the three courts and to deter vandals from entering into the place to destroy or remove the facilities therein.

     Uzodimma reiterated that his administration is doing its best to opt the game and improve the lives of the citizens of the State in all sectors, promising to leave Imo computerized at the end of his administration.

     He assured all involved in justice delivery in Imo State of the government’s cooperation and willingness to do all that is possible to make their job easy.

     The governor emphasised on his determination to ensure what obtains in other climes is the same in Imo State.

     In her remarks, the Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Theresa Chukwuemeka Chikeka expressed the gladness of the judiciary for the Court Complex.

     She noted that “having all three courts in one complex will make the work of the lawyers easy, as it will reduce unnecessary excuses and adjournments.”

     Justice Chikeka described the Complex as “beautiful” and assured that “the provision will really bring justice nearer to the grassroots.”

     Introducing the project to the governor and his entourage,  the Imo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. COC Akaolisa said that “the Court Complex is a manifestation of the governor’s commitment and promise to bring justice nearer to the people,” describing the Oru East Court Complex as a “testimony.”

     Akaolisa said,  “Oru East people are happy and those in the justice system in Imo State are also happy.”

     In his welcome address, the Sole Administrator of Oru East Local Government Council, Nze Celestine Nnamdi Onyeaka expressed the joy of the entire Oru East people over the Court Complex and said “Oru Nation is proud of their son, the Governor.”

     He added: “The Governor has turned Oru East into an upcoming urban city by bringing the Imo Polytechnic to them, commissioning of an ultra-modern General Hospital, the Court Complex and the International Market that is ongoing.

     “Other projects of the State Government to Oru East under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma include; construction and dualization of Mgbidi-Omuma-Akata-Okporo road which is ongoing, rebuilding of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Omuma, the Oru East Council Chapel and reconstruction of the failed perimeter fence of the Local Government Council, among others.”

     Onyeaka welcomed the Governor home and expressed his people’s unalloyed support as the November 11 governorship election beckons.

    Teachers endorse Uzodimma for second term

    Teachers in Imo State have adopted and endorsed Governor Hope Uzodimma’s bid for a second term.

    The teachers who gave the assurance at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square Owerri where they gathered in their numbers to mark this year’s World Teacher’s Day also resolved to vote massively for the governor in the forthcoming governorship election on November 11.

    Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Imo State Chapter, Rev Dr Philip Nwansi said teachers have been well treated under Governor Uzodimma so far and that it was unprecedented.

    Nwansi recalled that since Governor Uzodimma assumed office in January 2020, teachers have received their salaries promptly, including the 13th-month salary, promotions, free transportation, and free medical care.

    He added that retirees have been getting their pension regularly, while those in service have been enjoying in-house training and have also had their classrooms renovated, among other things, the government has extended to them.

    He said after assessing the governor’s performance, the teachers have unanimously resolved to queue behind him on November 11 to ensure that he gets re-elected to continue to render beneficial services to the teachers.

    In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma thanked the teachers for their gesture. He added that teachers play a unique role in society and that there is nothing done for them that could quantify the contribution they are making to improve society.

    He therefore promised to ensure that the Federal Government’s policy on retirement age and the number of years of service is domesticated to become a law.

    The governor also promised to improve their current wages and salaries such that teaching would be attractive.

    He said that he would domestic the Federal Government’s policy on the 65 years of age or 40 years in service for the retirement of teachers and promised to work out the modalities with the leadership of the teachers in Imo on the legal framework to back up the policy.

    Governor Uzodimma however reminded the teachers to be prepared to teach at their respective communities and deemphasize the idea of struggling to work at Owerri Municipal.
