    Moses, Osaze can wreck Bosnia

The President of Zambia’s Football Association Kalusha Bwalya believes that Nigeria’s Victor Moses and Osaze Odemwingie should be on the field at the same time to run at defenders and create the magic.

This was his assessment of Nigeria’s opening game and Bwalya also singled out Nigeria’s next match with Bosnia-Herzegovina as a six pointer and a crucial moment for Africa’s World Cup.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles struggled to break down an organised Iran side in their opening FIFA World Cup match on Monday night. The game ended 0-0 and became the first draw in what has been a thrilling tournament thus far.

“I think Nigeria are a good team with a very strong squad. Now people must remember that Iran qualified well and coach Carlos Queiroz has brought good organisation, the best you will see for Iran over the years,” Bwalya tells African Football.

The 1988 African Footballer of the Year believes that Nigeria could do with a bit of creativity in their starting team though.

“I think Victor Moses and Osaze Odemwingie need to both be in the starting line-up against Iran because they create something. You need guys to run at defenders, to create things,” Bwalya says.

“I think Ahmed Musa was not at his best, so when coach (Stephen) Keshi gets it right with the formation, things will come right for Nigeria.

“Bosnia are a strong team and given that less is known about them than Argentina, this will be the big test for Nigeria. Keshi will know what to expect from Argentina, but now they need to win against Bosnia.

“You want to be going into the match with Argentina on four points. So it is a big six point match against Bosnia.

“On the positive side, Bosnia will need to throw everything at Nigeria after their loss to Argentina and this could open the game up. They don’t just defend, they do also play football and I think Bosnia will make a good game out of this.”

Goal of the Fourth round: Moses’ strike fails to win award

Victor Moses’ strike for Liverpool in their FA Cup Fourth Round tie against Bournemouth failed to win the Goal of the Fourth round award after Jamie Mackie’s goal grabbed the honour.

The Nigeria international’s goal was listed alongside five other contenders that included Oscar, Chelsea v Stoke 23%, Matt Fryatt, Southend Utd v Hull 16%,

Michael Rose, Rochdale v Sheffield Wed 2% and Sergio Aguero, Man City v Watford 1%.

Sadly, Moses could only ganer 1 percent of fans’ total votes to finish joint last with Aguero.

Mackie’s curler against Preston North End was voted as the best goal.

The Nottingham Forest forward scored the first in a 2-0 replay victory for the Tricky Trees at Deepdale earlier this month.

Mackie played a one-two before side-footing the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area 18 minutes into the match.

The victory set up a Fifth Round trip to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United.

Mackie’s goal was the clear winner of the Goal of the Round, receiving 57% of the votes. It was double the amount of votes Oscar received for his free-kick for Chelsea against Stoke City.

Goal of the Fourth Round results:

    Oscar

    Chelsea v Stoke 23%

    Matt Fryatt

    Southend Utd v Hull 16%

    Michael Rose

    Rochdale v Sheffield Wed 2%

    Sergio Aguero

    Man City v Watford 1%

    Victor Moses

    Bournemouth v Liverpool 1%

Liverpool v Arsenal: Moses not listed again

Super Eagles forward, Victor Moses is set to extend his stay on the Reds subs bench in today’s Barclays Premier League cracker against Arsenal at Anfield.

The Nigeria international has been finding life tough at Liverpool since arriving on a season long loan from Chelsea at the start of the current campaign but with Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers eager to see Arsenal fall for the first time at Anfield in the last seven years, the former Wigan Athletic winger seem to stand no chance for today’s tie.

Rodgers still waiting for the return of his injured players will likely axe Moses as he sticks with the same squad as last weekend for today’s visit of Arsenal. Defenders Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson should be back in training next week but Mamadou Sakho is still short of fitness.

Left-back Jose Enrique’s recovery from a knee operation is taking longer than required and he may not be available for another month.

Liverpool (Possible, 4-3-3): Mignolet; Flanagan, Skrtel, Touré, Cissokho; Coutinho, Gerrard, Henderson; Sterling, Súarez, Sturridge.

Out: Agger (calf), Coates, Enrique, Lucas (all knee), Johnson (ankle), Sakho (hamstring).

Victor Moses back with a bang

Victor Moses made the most of a rare Liverpool start to help fire the Merseyside club to the last 16 of the FA Cup in England.

The Nigerian international opened scoring for Liverpool at AFC Bournemouth after 26 minutes, when he controlled a Luis Suarez’ cross from the right to fire home from the edge of the box.

It is Moses’ second goal for Liverpool since his loan transfer from Chelsea in the summer.

He was later replaced in the 84th minute, but it was a much better outing all round for the former Wigan Athletic star.

Daniel Sturridge doubled Liverpool lead on 61 minutes.

WORLD CUP promotions: Moses makes Pepsi all-star squad

Nigeria’s Victor Moses has been included in soft drink giant, Pepsi’s superstar footballers squad for their latest advertising campaign.

The Nigeria international is also joined by other Premier League stars that includes Sergio Aguero, David Luiz and Robin van Persie, who made the cut along with Barcelona ace Lionel Messi.

The Nigerian winger, who is currently on loan at Liverpool from Chelsea, it would be recalled famously featured in a Samsung advert featuring Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

All this despite the fact that he is struggling for match time in the Premier League.

Moses joins the superstar squad who will take part in a number of commercial activities and promotions in the build-up to the World Cup and beyond.

    Southampton targets Victor Moses

Southampton are being linked with a summer swoop for Chelsea winger, Victor Moses, who is currently on a season-long loan at Liverpool.

Saints boss, Mauricio Pochettino is on the lookout for fresh talents in the current transfer window, while he is also making early plans for the summer.

Moses is apparently among the players he is targeting when he returns to Stamford Bridge following a disappointing loan so far at Anfield.

The former Wigan man has managed just one goal for the Reds since joining and has struggled to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ starting line-up in recent weeks. However, he is expected to remain on Merseyside for the second half of the season before then heading back to Chelsea.

From there, his future looks uncertain and Saints are ready to step in and offer the 23-year-old the chance to resurrect his career on the south coast.

Chelsea value the Nigeria international at around £6million but may be willing to a deal for less than that in order to free up room in their squad at the end of the season.

  • Aldridge unhappy with Moses’ Liverpool impact

Aldridge unhappy with Moses’ Liverpool impact

    No desire, no spirit

SUPER Eagles ace, Victor Moses must improve or risk getting his loan at Liverpool cancelled, according to former striker John Aldridge.

Aldridge – who scored 63 goals in 104 appearances for Liverpool – says he has been exceptionally disappointed with the efforts of attacker Moses, who is at the club on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

He singled out the 23-year-old’s performance against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday as particularly poor and feels Moses is taking his Anfield stint for granted.

“Victor Moses was handed a big opportunity when Brendan Rodgers brought him to Liverpool from Chelsea last summer,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Not many players get the chance to go out on loan to a bigger club but I don’t think he realises how lucky he is.

“The Nigeria international could have no complaints about being hauled off at half-time of Sunday’s 2-0 win over Oldham.

“He looked completely disinterested in that opening 45 minutes and gave the manager little option.

“There was no desire, no spirit. Maybe he’s lacking a bit of confidence or maybe he’s just unhappy because he’s played so little recently. He has let himself [down] at Liverpool.”

Aldridge thinks Liverpool would have been better served keeping winger Oussama Assaidi – who they loaned out to Stoke City – instead of signing Moses.

And he also believes that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers should investigate the possibility of trying to cancel Moses’ loan.

“Hindsight is a great thing but we would have been better off keeping Oussama Assaidi and not signing Moses,” he added. “Assaidi has contributed a lot more for Stoke during his loan spell than Moses has for us.

“I don’t know whether Chelsea would agree to take him back as they’ve got a big squad but it might be in everyone’s best interests if the loan is cancelled.

“If Moses wants to stay at Liverpool until the end of the season then he needs to buck his ideas up. He’s in a precarious position. He needs to realise that and start fighting for a shirt.”

Anfield legend: Moses doesn’t know football

Victor Moses came under attack from yet another Liverpool legend on Saturday, just before he played a bit part in the 4-1 victory over West Ham United in an English Premiership game at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher had criticised the Eagles winger following his sad display against Hull City, but it was Mark Lawrenson, who won European titles with Liverpool, who gave the latest criticism.

Lawrenson,In his column for the Liverpool Daily Post, advanced his theory on why Moses is struggling at Anfield:

“I was disappointed [with Moses]. The problem with Victor Moses is he doesn’t know the game, he doesn’t know about football.

“At least that’s what I pick up from watching him. He plays by intuition rather than knowing what his role in the team is.”

Moses was yanked off with 16 minutes left after his mistake led to the second goal, as Liverpool went on lose that game 3-1.

And he was left on the bench in the 5-1 victory over Norwich at Anfield midweek, but was restored to play the last 19 minutes in the 4-1 defeat of West Ham on Saturday.

Liverpool 4 – 1 West Ham Moses plays for 18 mins

Super Eagles forward Victor Moses was a second half substitute for Liverpool as the Reds demolished West Ham 4-1 in an English Premier League encounter played at the Anfield yesterday. Moses who is still struggling to hold down a first team spot since arriving Anfield from Stamford Bridge in the summer came in for Raheem Sterling in the 72nd minute of the game.

That the former Wigan star even played for that amount of time was a slight improvement compared to last mid week when he was left on the bench for the entire duration of Liverpool’s last tie against Norwich.

The Nigerian international has already declared his intention to get more playing time at Liverpool but Brendan Rogers has admitted that it would be difficult for Moses to tie down a regular spot since the starting eleven are all doing well.

  • Moses’ sommersault thrills Calabar fans

VICTOR Moses accrobatic goal celebration thrilled many Calabar fans in Saturday’s FIFA 2014 World Cup play-off.

The Liverpool FC of England winger, who has never celebrated scoring in such new style, caught fans at the U.J Esuene unaware after he did a double sommersault near the Walya Antelopes corner flag to the delight of fans and his Super Eagles mates.

Recall that the likes of Julius Aghahowa, Obafemi Martins were known for the sommersaults the few times they scored for Nigeria in any soccer championships.
